Alternative External Headset/Mic Plug

Hi all , My Case for my PC has two Jacks for Mic Headset on the top for easy access to plug my heaphones and mic in on the fly.
Is there a place on the SB Audigy 2ZS to plug these to in order to make them function ? They have a standard Jumper style female connector connecting to them that appear to plug directly onto pins on the Card.
Am I doomed to have to leave my Mic plugged in at all time behind this huge PC and my Headphones always stretched to reach the speaker for quick disconnects when necassary ?

I use GarageBand 09 to record voice overs via the Podcasting then Female Narrator Noisy utility. I have a good quality external mic plugged in. I keep getting an intermittent clicking sound on the audio track. It's not the metronome as that is turned off. I have to edit out the clicking after recording. I can see the spikes on the waveline. Any ideas how I can prevent this happening?

Hi again and thanks so much for replying.
The 'mic jack' on the old mic is both wide and large, measuring about an inch and a quarter from the base (where it comes out of the black encasing) to the edge of the tip (sort of cone shaped). As I can't plug this in directly to any port in the back of the Mac, I thought it might be possible to to buy some sort of adapter so that I could plug in the jack at one end, with a USB connector at the other end to go straight into the Mac. But I see from your comment that you are suggesting a smaller jack itself (i.e., large size jack to small size jack and then plug in to the small round port, instead of jack to USB port)?
At the Mac shop I bought a USB adapter to connect up a second monitor (screen). I've just dug out the package and it's called a mini display port to VGA adapter. But back to the mic issue, I don't want to use the old mic really, I'm just trying to eliminate whether or not my usual mic, or its USB cable, is at fault and causing the clicking.
I looked on Amazon for a suitable adapter but there was mention of these little gadgets having a sound card. As the Mac obviously has its own internal sound card, I couldn't see the point of another (exernal) one, unless it was actually required to convert the sound from input to output (playback) or something. One review said sound quality was lost but the person had a problem with his speakers, not a ticking sound while playing back recordings - which is obviously my problem.
I do have a headset that I used to use for Skype. It has a pink and a green jack. I could plug one into the "headphones symbol' port and try recording again with Garageband. At least the jack is the right size. Again, this is just for the purpose of eliminating whether my good mic on a stand with the anti-popping sheild is at fault.
While my Mac does have both inbuilt speakers (I don't need external ones) and an inbuilt microphone, the latter is not of a high enough quality for voice overs, hence buying an external mic etc. But whatever is causing the clicking or ticking is obviously affecting the quality of my recordings. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming to edit out the ticking spikes and if the noise appears during speech, you can't edit it out at all.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I am determined to get to the bottom of this for my sake and everyone else who is suffering from the same problem!

Try plugging the headphones in and gently wiggling them around for a few seconds. It may be that the sensor that tells the iPhone that headphones are plugged in has gotten stuck. If this doesn't work, they try a reset (hold down Sleep/Wake and Home all the way until the Apple logo appears on the screen).

  • Help getting my headset/mic to work with my Audigy 2 ZS I/O

    Hi,
I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro with the external I/O dri've. I am trying to plug my headset/mic into my external I/O dri've, however I can't get the microphone to work. I have used the headset/mic with my other computer without any problems, so I know it is working. There has got to be a problem with the I/O connections or the way I have set up the Audigy 2 ZS.
Here are the connections I have made:
Headset speaker cord: Plugged into the external I/O hub headset port --- Works great.
Mic speaker cord: Plugged into the external I/O hub Line /Mic In port --- Doesn't work.
I have tried talking to a friend using Skype as well as using the Windows XP Sound Test Wizard, neither once picks up my voice from the mic.
Thanks for the help, I am at my wits end with this thing.

    Thanks,

Audigy 2 Zs do have another ASIO driver for 24-bit/96 kHz. You need to set it acti've through Sonar Options..Audio..Drivers tab (when ASIO is selected as device). Unselect all I/O drivers there and then select those 24/96 I/Os. NOTE: 24/96 mode is for line sources only so, no Mic input w/ this driver w/o external mic pre-amp through line input.
Audigy cards gives best quality w/ 96 kHz so, it's best if you use it in your projects ... you can then, after final mixdown (to 24/96 WAV file), use software like Voxengo r8brain for SRC (96 kHz ->44. kHz) and dithering (24-bit->6-bit) w/ lowest quality loss (SRC and dithering made w/ Sonar don't give as good results).
W/ ASIO 24/96, or any other than ASIO 6/48 driver, you can record from one source at once only. W/ ASIO 6/48 you should be able to record from all separately listed sources simultaenously and w/ kX drivers maybe from couple sources more.

  • Question regarding mic plugged into audio in/optical digital audio in port

So I have this external headset... headphone/mic set combo... I plug the headphone jack in the headphone slot and the mic jack in the audio in/optical digital audio in port slot in the back of my IMAC. I go to my system preferences select "sound" and "line in - Audio line in port". But when recording, it's still recording from the internal mic? How do I just record just from the external mic??? What am I doing wrong? I've read all the other questions regarding how to get the external mics to work, but it's still recording from the internal mic? Help?
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I never expected APPLE wouldn't make a mac that didn't have a proper mic jack?
It has a proper one, a good one, a professional one, not the toy that comes with most PCs. Apple has used line level analog audio input for years.
From Wikipedia;Line level is a term used to denote the strength of an audio signal used to transmit analog sound information between audio components such as CD and DVD players, TVs, audio amplifiers, and mixing consoles.
In contrast to line level, there are weaker audio signals, such as those from microphones and instrument pickups, and stronger signals, such as those used to drive headphones and loudspeakers. The strength of the various signals does not necessarily correlate with the output voltage of a device; it also depends on the source's output impedance, or the amount of current available to drive different loads.

. There is no analog I/O pins available on Audigy 2. Only way to get it working the way you want is to split those I/Os found from back of the card. Here is a project running solving this matter, so you may want to follow it's progress.
There are also couple threads talking 'bout this matter of yours.
    2. You can control treble and bass from software you're using or if you play games (only) then from
    - Creative Surround Mixer
    - CTPanel (can be found on driver installations)
    - Control Panel: Sounds And Multimedia properties: Audio tab --> Play Control : Volume slider: Advenced
All these above affects sound Globally.

There is no setting on any iPhone to disable/by-pass this.

When I was backing up files from my computer to my external drive, I inadvertently dragged my itunes library to the external drive. Now I can only play my library when my external drive is plugged into my computer. How do I get the library location changed back to my computer?

Your drive was used with a PC and formatted NTFS which is proprietary Microsoft format.
You need to install a third party program that will read the NTFS format.
There is various software from PARAGON, Tuxera and NTFS-3G
When you get the data off and have verified it to be good, reformat the drive either HFS+ for Mac use only, or for Mac and PC use then MSDOS (FAT32) for under 4GB files (best) or exFAT (for larger than 4GB files) is proprietary and Microsoft is appling for a patent, which would likely mean OS X won't be allowed to read it anymore without a licensing fee and you'l have to pay another third party software company to read the format, just like NTFS is.
The less you have to rely upon third party sources to read your drives the better, this way if you have a issue and need to read the drive on another machine you don't need the software, and a internet connection and a credit card and...and...and...

  • How to ONLY use headset mic with iPhone Skype?

Latest iOS, Latest Skype app. I own many wired headsets, from Apple original, to a Jabra call center headset, to Bose QC25 noise-canceling headphones with cord mic. No matter which of these I try, the iPhone's built-in microphones stay on when I make Skype calls. I'm using a headset because I chose the headset mic. Deliberately. I don't want any other mic to be on, for many reasons that should be completely obvious.
If I'm sitting still with the iPhone near me on a table, this leads to the extraordinary sound quality that lead me to Skype in the first place. If the iPhone is in my pocket while I unload the dishwasher, any noise-isolation features of my headset mic go out the window; my activities are louder than my voice.
Worse, with the Bose QC25 headphones, I don't hear my own voice looping back. With various headsets, the other party hears me much more faintly if I throw the iPhone under a pile of comforters or a pillow. As if Skype not only insists on using the iPhone mics in addition to the headset mic, but it is using auto level control to balance them.
While Steve Jobs is my hero, one of the worst days in the history of computing was when he decided that the iPod interface should be dumbed down as far as possible on the theory that users are morons who can't tolerate user interface options. I'm not finding any options to control mics on the Skype app, a direct heir to this legacy.
So, is this a "feature" or something I can fix?

ok so playing around with it, i think i fixed it. in the surround mixer i turn off the source line in , and then select line in for rec?

    Hi!
I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. What's going on?

Hi RRFS!,thanks for help.I forgot to tell that hard drive has 2 partitions 1:format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that works properly,2:format:MS-DOS (FAT32) and when i "get info" for both :first has shering & permitions:You can read and write - with name and privilege, second has shaing & prermissions:You can read and write- without name and privilege

How to backup an external hard drive plugged into a time capsule using time machine.
I want to move my itunes library from the mac HD to an external plugged into the time capsule, but I want to be sure this drive will still be backed up by time machine.  I currentlly see no way to do this.

There is no way. You can connect the drive to your Mac and remove it from the Time Machine exclusion list. Then it will be backed up, but that will stop when you reconnect it to the TC. While it's connected to the TC, you can copy it manually to another AirPort Disk by following the instructions here (with a slight modification):
Using AirPort Utility to make a copy of the Time Capsule disk
