Alternative to Entire Document Reflowing with Every Keystroke?
I'm buildng a large-ish document in Pages 09 (about 140 pages) with lots of photos and text wrapping and about 40,000 words over five sections. The issue is when proof reading through it, if I need to make any amendments or alterations to the text, it's a real trial as it's painfully slow. The problem is that if you add one character, then the entire document from that character onwards (at least until the end of a given section) reflows. Add another character and it reflows again. Make a typo and delete a character and it reflows yet again. There's a huge amount of unnecessary processing going on.
In the old days of Aldus PageMaker 4.0 (yes, I am that old!) the system was much more elegant - you could open a separate text edit window, make the changes and then close the window again, meaning any reflowing would only have to happen once.
Admittedly my machine isn't super powerful with 2 Gigabytes of RAM and a 1.25Gigahertz PowerPC processor, but PageMaker used to run well on 4 Megabytes of RAM and 32 Megahertz processor, so I can't believe a lack of processing power is the problem.
Is there an elegant fix for this?
I thought about cutting and pasting chunks of text into another Pages document, editing and re-pasting, but going in and out with chunks of text is asking for mistakes to slip through. (Part of my reason for proof reading is to ensure that I don't have occasional orphan lines from one passage flowing over to another).
Any help or advice gratefully received.

I've recently upgraded the hard drive to a 250GB with 170GB still free so no issues there.
And I take the point about effects. Though there are a couple of rotated pics and shadows, the vast majority are just straight photos, though I concede they've all been imported in full and resized.
And I concur about word processing within the layout which is precisely why I wrote the principle copy in a separate document and 'poured' it into the layout. But I always feel the final proof read should be exactly as the final thing will be seen and that invariably means finding typos or wanting to make odd changes to words or phrases here and there.
The same problem applies when you try to add, move or resize a photo - the text re-wraps and re-wraps around it as you move it. It just seems processor-wasteful. I've even started switching off "item causes textwrap" when moving stuff and then switching it on again after I've made the change as it's so much quicker.
I just can't help wondering why something that worked well 20 years ago with a hundredth of the processing power of my current Mac is such a trial today. I have a hunch that Pages is putting too much effort into unnecessary or invisible bells and whistles and not enough into doing the job in hand.
A part of me is tempted to boot up from my external drive in 10.3 and use PageMaker in Classic as, even with all the extra classic conversion processing, my G4 absolutely ripped through eveything I'd ask of it in PageMaker or Claris/AppleWorks. The only reason I don't is that I want the document to work on my eventual next Mac which will have to have an Intel processor. Pages is supposed to be much better optimized for OS-X - a fact which was cited by Apple as partly justifying ditching AppleWorks - but even just opening it up, it grinds compared to AppleWorks despite (it seems to me) only having one or two features that AppleWorks didn't have and missing quite a few that it did. It also frequently stops responding for several seconds before starting up again, though many of my other applications seem to do the same.
But I guess that's progress!

P.S. I've tried everything to fix the 'not responding' issue, including defragging; reloading the OS from scratch; cloning the drive to a spare, initializing and cloning back; and when I recently upgraded the drive I used Time Machine to load the new drive in the hope that it might have a more sophisticated optimization process. So far nothing's worked, and since the G5 Mac I use at work often exhibits the same behaviour, I've simply had to accept it as a fact of life.
But it never happened on my old LC!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. In OS X, by default apps will open with any previously opened documents opening as well. To disable this feature, select "Close windows when quitting an application" from System Preferences > General. To learn more, see this article:

How to make navigation tools open with every document?
Hi -
I'm using Acrobat 8 Professional.
Every time I open a document there are no tools at all showing. The window shows the document and the title bar. But I'd like to have more than that.
I finally figured out using cmd-F to get some basic navigation tools (search, page number, I-beam, hand, etc).
I would like this assortment of tools to open with every and any document I open.
How do I accomplish this??

JLWith Voice Over, you highlight whatever you are trying to select and then double tap anywhere on the screen to select.
So for your password of 1234 you have to
"Highlight 1, then double tap the screen, Highlight 2, the double tap the screen,... etc."
In order to remove you have 2 options:
Option# 1 – Turn off Voice Over
Go to setting by, highlight "SETTING
Double tap screen to go into settings
Use 3 fingers to (swipe) scroll of down and highlight "GENERAL"
Double tap screen to go into general
Use 3 fingers to (swipe) scroll of down and then highlight “ACCESSIBILITY”
Double tap screen to go into accessibility
Once you are in make sure that EVERYTHING in that section are shown as “OFF”
Option #2 - Reset your Phone
Go to setting by, highlight "SETTING
Double tap screen to go into settings
Use 3 fingers to (swipe) scroll of down and highlight "GENERAL"
Double tap screen to go into general
Use 3 fingers to (swipe) scroll of down and then highlight “RESET”
Double tap screen to go into reset
Select “Reset all setting” and continue to follow the instruction
(When you reset, all of your data and music WILL NOT erase. So don’t worry about that)

Pages comments panel open with every document
For whatever reason, Pages keeps opening up the comment panel on the left side of my Pages documents when I open them, even when there isn't a single comment added to the Pages document. I have to manually close the comment box and then save the file, for every file, to remedy the problem.
Any ideas?Nope. I just opened a document from March 2012 to verify. It opens the document with comments panel open, but I never used the comments panel on the document.
I didn't start using comments until a couple weeks ago, which is when I started having this problem.
It does not, however, do so with every document. There seems to be a specific reason why some documents have this problem, and some do not. But I do not see the pattern. -
How to autofill blank cells in an entire document?
Is there a way of filling blank cells in the entire document, not just surrounding cells as the fill-function works? In other programms you search " " and fill (replace) it with "0" for example. Doesn't work with the Find/Replace function in Numbers.

A cell containing " " (a space) is not a blank cell.
When cells contain this string, the Search / Replace tool behaves flawlessly and replace the spaces by the wanted string.
To fill the blank cells, I know only one soluce : AppleScript.
Here is a script doing the trick.

That's not really a bug. In this line:

two list are being concatenated which returns a list and 'as alias list' doesn't work on lists. You could do this:
set aSel to (every document file in folder thePath as alias list) & (every document file of every folder in folder thePath as alias list)
If there aren't anymore levels, then you can use 'entire contents':
every document file of entire contents of folder thePath as alias list
Note that if only one file is returned, then it will error because of automatic coercion, so it's better to do it your way if you don't know how many files there are. Then, you would use an error handler to trap the error. Here's what I've been using:

Entire document momentarily flickers white when editing/adding text
Using Adobe Illustrator I exported an Adobe PDF. Back in Adobe Acrobat Pro -> content Editing -> I select some existing text and as soon as I type a single character, the entire document momentarily flickers white. Afterwards, the character I entered is visible. This happens each and every time I try to type. If I try to type a full sense, the screen is basically strobing until I stop typing.
This also happens in Acrobat Acrobat Professional.

thanks!You really should update the source document in Illustrator and generate a new PDF. If you need to retain any links, fields, etc. that you added in Acrobat, you can replace the old pages with the new in Acrobat (Tools > Pages > Replace).

Sure! You could write a script which is executed from the top level subform's ("form1" by default) Enter event and looks for all fields on the form and sets their
doNotScroll property to true. Note that the script will have to execute on the Enter event (which will be called the moment the user sets focus to any field on the form) because any other event is too "soon" for the
doNotScroll property setting to take effect.
I've attached another sample form which demonstrates how to do this. Check-out the script in the form1 object's Enter event. The
DisableScrolling method is recursive and finds all child fields within all possible container objects (such as subforms, areas, exclusion groups) found in the XFA language. For each field found which supports the
doNotScroll property, it sets that property to true. Note the boolean variable used to guard against running this script every time focus is set to a field within the form. The script only needs to be executed once.

Apple AirPort Express - HP LaserJet M1120 won't print entire document
Hi,
My first post. I've recently purchased Airport Express and installed all necessary programmes (incl. Airport Base Station Agent and Bonjour print service) on my Win 7 Ultimate x64.
The device is set up as "Join a existing network".
Airplay works without any issues, but printing does not.
I've also installed the driver for HP LaserJet M1120 printer.
When I send something to print (regardless of the file), it won't print the entire document. Usually, it prints smaller documents (up to 10 pages) normally, but when it comes to larger documets it prints only half of the document.
I send 30 pages document to print and it prints only 15 pages. Then I need to re-send print command and again, it prints only half - 7 or 8. Printer just stops.
Sometimes i get "Error-printing", but not always.
This issue happens on all 4 PCs that I have at home all running Win 7 Ultimate x64 or Win Vista Home Premium x32.
Any ideas?
HP Print Diagnostic Utility did not find any issues also. Says everything is OK.Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at thisiFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.

Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work. -
Is it possible to remove yellow text background in the entire document?
I have the same problem as the one that is mentioned here:http://forums.adobe.com/message/1155089 In my case the yellow background is already in the pdf-file which was created with a virtual pdf printer and then manipulated with another pdf-editor. I noticed accidentally that it is possible to remove the yellow background in Acrobat Pro as if I'd edit an object. Getting rid of it on each page by hand would be a daunting task. Is it possible to do this somehow with the entire document? All help would be much appreciated.

Btw: The yellowish background does not appear in other pdf viewers.I'll try to describe the process but the exact numbers will depend on your document - as I said earlier when I ran a test of your file I got 3.4%, but you may not.
Your file has a mixture of color spaces (CMYK/RGB/etc.) and so you must first run the Convert Colors tool from the Print Production Panel to get everything into a consistent space, or Preflight will choke. Run the default profile to convert to the SWOP v2 profile.
Open the Output Preview tool from the Print production Panel and hover over one of the yellow areas, write down the percentage of yellow. Hopefully nothing else in the document will have the same percentage.
Now open Preflight from the Print Production Panel, switch to the Single Checks tab.
Open the Options menu, choose "Create new Preflight Check".
Name it "yellow boxes" and apply it to "Page contents" and "Current file".
Select the Colors group and pick "object uses Yellow with a percentage of..." - press ADD.
Configure it with "Equal to" and your percentage (no % sign)
Click OK, then switch to the Single Fixups tab.
Options menu > Create new Preflight Fixup
Name it "move yellow to layer"
Choose the Layers category, "Put objects on layer" and press ADD
In the "Objects identified by a check" dropdown, select your "yellow boxes" check.
In the Layer name field, type "yellow boxes"
Click OK, then click the Fix button to run it.
You'll get a message to save/close and reopen the file.
When you do, (hopefully) all your yellow boxes will now be in their own layer.
Open the layers navigator on the left side of Acrobat's window and turn off the eyeball for that layer.

Acrobat XI isn't printing my entire document
I have a situation where sometimes my Adobe Acrobat XI isn't printing my entire document. I notice this particularly on documents I have saved from a webpages (turned into PDF). It runs through a flattening process and then only prints some of the pages, rather than the full document. Any clues?
I have the same problem.
Sometimes, one (or more) of the pages will print with a portion of the page tiled at least eight times.

Using Document Library with Baseline

I have a specific need with Sharepoint. I have a document library and I want to be able to mark with a tag or generate a baseline for my folders.
I've already searched on the web, and there is someone doing it just coping and pasting every single file. Is that the better way to get this?

What did you mean "Using Document Library with Baseline" and "generate a baseline for my folders"?
Did you mean that navigate the document library folders in treeview?
Did you mean that search or filter multiple folders documents with the same tag (managed metadata column)?
You may be able to use the "Navigation Hierarchies and Key Filters" for that specified SharePoint 2010 library, here is an article about metadata navigation settings you can check below,

Summary: Sending scanned documents as an attachment. In PDF and JPEG the entire document is displayed rather than an Icon
As long as you used the paper-clip Attach icon, that should be fine.
The entire document appears to you because your Mac recognizes the document type, and displays it for you, saving you from having to mouse around and find a Reader for it. You can still use the Save icon to save a copy of only the attachment.
To avoid problems with other email readers, be sure the checkbox [√] send windows-friendly attachments is checked.
I addition, some email readers cannot cope with any attachments positioned at any place in the document other than at the very end. So make sure you move the cursor to the absolute end of the document before clicking "Attach".
If all else fails, send an email that says, "attachment to follow", then send the attachment right away in a separate email, with nothing else in the body of the message. Some use the Subject abbreviation (nt) to indicate "no text", that is, no words typed in the message portion. -
Satellite L750/04K Keyboard not registering every keystroke
I have just purchased a L750/04K laptop but the keyboard does not seem to be registering every keystroke.
Often you have to press the space a couple of times, or other keys as well.
It doesn't matter how fast or slow I type it happens randomly.
Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you noticed the same behavior with external keyboard? Probably only the internal keyboard is malfunctioning and so not all keys will be recognized.
Also check the current BIOS version and have a look on official Toshiba website for an update:
But if an external keyboard works properly the internal keyboard must be replaced. During valid warranty time it can be done for free from an authorized service provider.

Help, InDesign transparency tool changes opacity of entire document
Hi. I just got Adobe InDesign CS5. I have been a very long user of QuarkXpress. What I would like to do is a linear blend of
colours in an object to a design I am doing. Then I would like to change the opacity of the SELECTED OBJECT only. But for some reason when I select the object and change the opacity, it changes it to the picture that is underneath the object to a different colour blue than what was originally in the picture I created? The picture was created in Photoimpact 11, with Pantone Blue as the colour.
First, I created a new document and inserted a PNG picture that fits on the entire document as the background, that has a very bright blue background. I want to put a rectangular text box at the top with blended colours. When I create a new object, using the rectangle tool, and then put it on top of the picture, I select the rectangular box, I right click and go to Effects and then Transparency. I select the "Select for" prompt to "Fill". Then on the right side where it says "Transparency, Basic Blending" it is selected as Normal mode and I move the opacity to 64%. When I click on ok, the picture underneath changes colours to a different colour light blue for some reason?? But the thing is, the picture colour that changes to light blue, stays the same whether it is at 99% or at 1% opacity.
Why is my picture changing colours? How can I change the objects opacity to not affect the pictures colour underneath? I have been trying for hours to figure this out. When I have done this in QuarkXpress, it doesnt affect the background picture at all. The only issue is, when i convert to PDF from QuarkXpress, the pantone blue comes out a totally different colour, like a lighter blue. But when I converted this background picture in InDesign without any other objects, it came out perfect! Please help me. Thank you.

I fixed this problem by enabling Edit-->Transparency Blend Space-->Document RGB.
Now my background picture is just fine. Before, Transparency blend space was in CMYK. I guess that was the issue?
If anyone else has this problem, just keep this in mind!.

Lose functionality to upload files directly to enhanced text field InfoPath modified forms
I have a SharePoint 2013 list with enhanced rich text multiline fields. When using the default SharePoint new/edit item form, I have the option to upload images and files directly to the field. Once I modify the form using InfoPath, I lose the functi
