Alternative ways to load Flash website

Hello, I have created a fully Flash website and as I continue
to add images to my swf file obviously it is taking longer to load
the site. I think I have created a pretty slick and straight
forward preloader, but as I continue to add images to my site it
will force the user(s) to wait longer and longer for the entire
site to load. Where I live and work I have a very fast connection
speed (20 MB/s +) so my site loads very quickly, but when visiting
a friends place my site seemed to take forever. Instead of creating
a low bandwidth version I want to keep what I have.
My main question- Is there a way I could load the entire site
up front to a certain point (say 25%) and allow the user to begin
to navigate through the site and anything that hasn’t
finished loading yet will just continue to load dynamically (or on
demand once the user selects a certain image). The user could see
the progress of items loading as they navigate around.
My website is:
www.abromphoto.com. I run a
photography business and am a beginner with Flash, but understand
web technology. My portfolio section of the site is about 90% of my
content. I would love for images to load dynamically as the user
begins to view images that have already loaded. Or, possibly
display all thumbnails for my images and then load the particular
image on demand once the thumbnail is clicked (so if they go back
to that image, it is already loaded). I honestly don’t know
how to search for this kind of thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are a variety of options that you can use/combine to
make things seem more streamlined. Preloading is always a good
thing when you have a sizeable site. As far as quitting at a
certain percentile, it can be a gamble. The on-demand route would
be a good approach where it's practical... but if you end up
on-demanding everything, it can be disruptive to the user's viewing
pleasure. You could also consider making separate swf's for
different sections and loading them as needed, possibly with some
lightwieght loading-time eye candy that makes it seem like more of
a transition than a waiting period. For image groups, you might be
able to incorporate a gradual one-by-one loading where each image
transitions into view after it loads, giving the impression of
being an intended gradual display.

  • Ways to load flash player..

I have begun to develop some Adobe Captivate files and load
them on a very scant website. (mainly for review)
I am wondering about the different methods of distributing
flash player to those who may not have it.
You can obviously have a direct link, or I am assuming that
there is some code (activeX script?) that can install it without
    leaving the page, yes?
But I have been told by some other Captivate users that there
is a way to integrate flash in a way that requires NO player at
all. I found this hard to believe, but this was suposedly done at a
F500 company on their intranet, because they did not want people
    having flash installed localy.
I would like to make viewing my files as fast as possible for
those without flash, but does this just sound crazy to anyone
    else?

It's not Flash Player that requires the process be ended. Installing ANY 3rd party (and Flash Player is 3rd party) plug-in for IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome requires the browser to be shut down. It's sort of like the way you can't change spark plugs while driving. CG creates a connection using a call to the DNS, which remains open even if the browser is closed.
Windows, won't allow a plug-in to be installed if it has an indication that IE is running or if it senses an open connection that may hinder the installation. This same thing will occur when tyring to install a video downloader (Like RealPlayer) or ad blocker into IE, and Adobe doesn't make those.
Since not everyone in the world has Comcast (I have Cox), or Xfinity, and not everyone with ComCast/Xfinity has CG... adding special scripts for a small percentage of ALL users worldwide, and then having to do the same for every other situation, like AOLConnect (yes, some people still use it), Facebook plug-ins, LimeWire, Spotify, Pandora, WIndows 365, etc... would make Flash Player into "bloatware" of a size unthinkable for just a plug-in. The other option would be to have individual versions for every ISP and service combination available. Can you imagine having to sort through more than 2,000 different versions every six weeks to get "just the right update" for your ISP and protection suite?

found out i couldnt watch a live stream coference because apple wont allow to download adobie flash player. why is this and is there a way around it to be able to catch more of live stream in future.?

In the future, there won't be any Flash. Adobe, who makes it, has cancelled future versions for mobile devices like the iPad:
    http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/11/adobe-kills-mobile-flash/
You should check if there is another way to get the live stream. For example, I sometimes watch online classes on a site that uses Flash for the video. But they also provide a non-Flash video stream that can be watched in an iPhone or iPad web browser, and an iOS app that you can also use to watch the stream.

  • Safari keeps crashing half way through loading a website, ebay is the worst affected.

When I try to open certain websites they only half load and crash. Ebay and facebook are the worst. How do I prevent this from happening? Thanks!

Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?
If "No," first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Flash website I created is loading too slow and don't know how to put in preloader.

I have 4 swf files.  The index.html page is a flash swf that I renamed to index.html in order for it to the be first page to come out.
I have googled how to add a preloader but it's all too confusing, and I'm not sure if I should add it to the first swf that I renamed index.html.
The website that I created for the company is loading way too slow.
    I've deleted unused files.
I've compressed the images the best way I could.
I cannot change the images, because it's the whole purpose of the design.
Any other options of loading this website any faster other than changing the design, and putting it into Dreamweaver?
And where do I add the preloader after I made it? The first fla file?
    Thanks.

If by "converted" you mean that you've converted the trailer to a normal project using the menu option File>Convert to Project, then YES it is still possible to edit the Credits Title.
In the converted project, double-click on the blue Title bar that sits above the background clip. In the Viewer, double-click on the text you wish to change (or highlight text by dragging over it). Now you can replace the highlighted text by typing in the new text. You can also change fonts and font colours.
It's always good practice to duplicate the Trailer before converting it. To do this, while in Project Library view, click on the Trailer name in the Library then select File>Duplicate Project. A copy will appear in the Library with the same name as the Trailer, but with the number 1 appended. You can rename this copy as desired. Now, convert the duplicate to a standard project and continue with your editing as required. You now have the original Trailer in template form (which can be further edited), and can duplicate it again if required.
    John
EDIT: Regarding my first sentence - just noticed that you did mention "converting it to a project" in you topic header. Sorry!

  • Firefox 3.6.8 still having problems loading heavy Flash websites

Upgraded to latest 3.6.8 Firefox version and noting it is still having issues loading heavy flash websites. Takes 5 to 6 times longer to load a webpage if there is Flash on it. I do have the latest version of Flash installed according to Adobe's website so that's not the culprit. Will be uninstalling this latest version and rolling back to the copy of 3.6.3 version I kept which worked great with all flash websites. Waiting for the problem to get fixed before I update again...hoping they can fix this. I noticed this problem starting back with version 3.6.6 and still hasn't been fixed with 3.6.8...
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://www.tsn.ca

The problem affects this page: [ http://gronnbil.no/biler]
The strange thing is that whenever I load the page with Firebug activated for this page, it renders the Flash instantly. But hardly ever (it does happen now and then, but mostly not) when I'm not using Firebug. I have tried disabling all plugins, running in Safe Mode, but it didn't help. I use Mac OS X 10.6.4 64-bit, FF 3.6.8. Ideas, anyone?

  • Searching for flash based forums, or a way to load forums into flash ?

Im searching for flash based forums, or a way to load forums into flash ? i found this
    http://activeden.net/item/flash-forum/52576?page=1
Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated

You can load the raw html - if flash is told (e.g. via
flashvars) the url of the page that you want (its available in
flash as what you would think of as the browser's 'view source'
style plain text) with either as2 or as3.
But you can't do full browser-style rendering of the content
because flash just can't do all that. You could parse the raw html
(probably a custom parser as I think the internal xml parser might
choke on some of the tags in html that are not closed such as
<br> etc) and just pick out bits of text or images that you
could display but you can't achieve an embedded browser.
Adobe's AIR might be more what you want - it has embedded
browser support- but it doesn't run inside a browser like flash.

  • Flash website won't load in IE since installing Wordpress

I have a flash website that's been running fine, but since I installed Wordpress on that server, the SWFs won't load from Internet Explorer. It still works fine in Firefox on both the Mac and Windows platforms. The Flash website is not associated with the WP blog at all, but it exists along side. I tried moving the blog folder up a level, farther away from the Flash site, but it didn't help. IE will see the index page, and the html elements, but no longer will load the flash. It's was working fine before. I should mention that there is also a b2 evolution blog installed in another directory on the server, if that makes any difference.
Has anyone else run into this issue? Thank you for any suggestions!

Sorry for posting, I'm an idiot   I made some edits to my index.html file and forgot to save out that pesky .js file that IE needs. It's just coincidence that I happened to install Wordpress the same day. Oh well, everythings OK now!

  • My flash website gets stuck and doesn't load properly

I have developed a flash website that works perfectly well
when i test it on my computer. when i have loaded it onto the web
    it seems to get stuck.
    www.adamdunnesculpture.com
if i do a hard refresh (Ctrl & F5) it will load properly.
is there any code that will force the flash movie to fully load...
i am totally stuck and have worked hard on this to allow me
to teach this at the school i work at. any advice would be very
    very gratefully received.
    Thankyou in advance

you should use preloader code or the onLoadInit() method of
the moviecliploader class to ensure all assets are loaded before
any attempt is made to use those assets.

  • Flash website not loading in various browsers

Hi, I just uploaded my new website, and have gotten
complaints from people using browsers other than IE. They are
unable to load my flash website, and I have no idea why.
    It is: shojin.com
Does anyone know what is going on?

Don't know. Activity viewer says that the swf file
'Design2.swf' was not found. Are you sure it's on the server? or
    the correct title?

  • Is there a way to make a website in flash, the client can edit?

is there a way to make a website in flash, the client can edit? if not which is the best tool to use?
    thanks!

I said "such as" for a reason.  There are various forms that data resources can take, such as simple name=value text files, but if you are shy of learning xml then you are likely shy of other file forms as well.
Another way would be to have the client purchase Flash and then they can edit the Flash source file themselves.
Unfortunately, to do what you want, either you or the client has to learn/understand the tools that are involved.

  • Flash Websites Won't Load On MacOSX 10.7

If I go to a flash website like hbo.com or native-instruments.com, the flash wheel just turns and turns but never loads. How do I fix this problem? I have 10,3,183, 7 installed.

If you go to Safari's Help menu, then choose Installed Plug-ins, do you see Shockwave Flash listed?  Here's what mine looks like:
If not, please try the following:
    1. Download the stand alone uninstaller
    2. Close all your browser windows
    3. Run the uninstaller
    5. Restart your computer
    6. Download and install Flash Player located here: Flash Player for Mac

  • Firefox hanging when trying to load any flash website on Win2008R2

After updating to Firefox 14 and to the 11.3 flash Firefox will hang on every flash website I try to view on a Win2008R2 server.
I can reproduce this on several machines after installing the latest Flash update and it does not repro if I disable the flash plug in.
I have already tried completely uninstalling everything from scratch on this server with no results, including deleting all files related to flash and FF.

Try re-enabling Flash and then disable hardware acceleration in Adobe Flash Player's Display settings, which you can access by right-clicking any Flash object or by right-clicking the Flash logo on this page and selecting "Settings" (you may need to switch to the Display tab, by clicking the first icon on the bottom of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window),:

  • Loading Flash Menu in Background?

I've inherited a website with a huge (2.5MB) flash menu system and would like to know if there is an elegant way to load it in the background from maybe an intro page that redirects to the home page after a certain amount of time - or possible when the menu is done loading.  Thanks in advance.

    var mcl:MovieClipLoader=new MovieClipLoader();
    var lo:Object={};
    lo.onLoadInit=function(target){
// loading is complete.  remove intro display
    target.play();
    mcl.addListener(lo);
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("targetMC",this.getNextHighestDepth());
    mcl.loadClip("yourmainswf.swf",targetMC);  // put an empty keyframe at frame 1 of yourmainswf.swf and add a stop();
