Am I missing something, String function...

OK... I have a method in my class that returns a string. Maybe I should be doing it with a StringBuffer, BUT... I cannot see why this does not work.
When running in the main() method (for testing) it works fine. When called as an object, and the method is called, it's output on my machine indicates that even though I am setting the first int to 0, it is starting at 32778...
Here is the offending code, any luck?
public String replace(String ko, String kt, String lg)
String sk_y = "<"+ko+">";
String ek_y = "</"+ko+">";
String sk_r ="<"+kt+">";
String ek_r ="</"+kt+">";
String nw = "";String sso="";
try{
int pot=0; int mk=0;
while (true)
System.out.println("+xLS.replace:start:"+pot);
mk = lg.indexOf(sk_y,pot);
nw=nw+lg.substring(pot,mk);
nw=nw+sk_r;
pot=mk+sk_y.length();
mk=lg.indexOf(ek_y,pot);
nw=nw+lg.substring(pot,mk);
nw=nw+ek_r;
pot=mk+ek_r.length();
System.out.println("+xLS.replace:end:"+pot+"\nnw=="+nw);
sso=nw;
catch(Exception e){/*done*/
pot=0;mk=0;
return sso;
Thanks,
Dave

the problem is the scope of your variables.... or not :^)
Ive run your coude here and everything looks OK.
I used this command line:
replace("f", "b", "<f>bla </f>");

  • REPLACE ALL functionality.  Am I missing something??!! Where is it?

    Hi SUN Team,
    Am I being stupid or missing something obvious, but does the Replace All function only apply to one file??!! Is there no Replace All across all files?
    If not, this basic editing function should be in the next patch, as IMHO, this needs to be there. I know the Refactor does a Rename, but this is limited in its scope.
    If I change a variable name, I have to open all files in Texpad and do the find and replace with it.
    Its things like this that can make or break a product.
    Regards,
    still_nearly_impressed.

    Hi SUN Team,
    This may not be a high priority issue to you, as I see no response yet, but a good editor is at the heart of a good IDE.
    If the idea was to move VB guys to JAVA via Creator, it is nearly there, except a few rough edges.
    On the whole, I am a big Creator fan, just want to be spoiled a bit more.
    Regards,
    80% impressed.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 on Mac Missing Creat & Share Functionality after installation

    Running Mac Leopard 10.6.3. Installed Photoshop Elements 10 but am missing Create and Share functionality.
    Tried upgrading from OS X 10.5 to 10.6.3, Uninstalling,  Re-installing and rebooting but problem still exists (see attached screenshot with blank Create section).
    Also tried looking at installation log file and saw two warnings (see below).
    Am I missing something or is this an installation bug?
    Thank you for any help,
    Marwan

  • Upsert of xmltype from given xpath - missing something obvious?

    Version: 10.2.0.*2* EE
    I am trying to do an upsert (update/ insert ) of an xmltype for a given xpath.
    The xml data is being passed as an xmltype, the xpath is a string (varchar2), the new value is a string, varchar2.
    If the node specified by the xpath exists this is trivial using updatexml; of course if the node doesn't exist nothing happens. I can check for the nodes existence using exists node, but I'm coming unstuck trying to figure out how to insert the node.
    All the APIS I can find that insert XML (APPENDCHILDXML,INSERTXMLBEFORE, INSERTCHILDXML) do not take an xpath but require an xmltype. Which means if I am reading this right I have no choice but to parse the xpath varchar2 string to try and construct an xmltype (ugh!).
    I can't find any API that just takes an xpath as a varchar2 and a value and gives me an xmltype. Ideally I don't even want that, would just like an API that returns the updated XML which has either had the xpath updated (or inserted if it didn't exist) with the new value.
    I am not an XML expert but I am pretty handy with SQL and PL/SQL. To me this just seems incredibly cumbersome just to do something as trivial as an upsert, so I am hoping I am missing something obvious!
    Can soemone please set me straight with a pointer or example?
    To top it all off the XML uses namespaces, but they aren't registered, there is no schema registration going on.

    Marco Gralike wrote:
    Couldn't it be done via XQuery, although the database version doesn't really help...That would be possible with a dynamic XQuery expression, but "painful" with a static expression as it would require parsing the XPath, and rebuilding the entire input document with the required modifications.
    I think XSLT would be more efficient in this case.
    Maybe, one day, when the database has XQuery Update Facility, we will be able to do this :
    copy $a := $doc/Address
    modify (
      if ($a/zip)
        then replace value of node $a/zip with "12345"
        else insert node element zip {"12345"} into $a
    return $a
    user12083137 wrote:To me, from a SQL background, I can't believe this simple case is simply not covered.Maybe not as simple as it seems. :)
    The functionality can be simulated via an IF/THEN/ELSE logic, or a DELETE/INSERT sequence.
    For example :
    case when existsNode(doc, xpath) = 1
      then updateXML(
             doc
           , xpath || '/text()'
           , somevalue
      else appendchildxml(
             doc
           , substr(xpath, 1, instr(xpath, '/', -1)-1)
           , xmlelement(
               evalname(substr(xpath, instr(xpath, '/', -1)+1))
             , somevalue
    endor,
    appendChildXML(
      deleteXML(doc, xpath)
    , substr(xpath, 1, instr(xpath, '/', -1)-1)
    , xmlelement(
        evalname(substr(xpath, instr(xpath, '/', -1)+1))
      , somevalue
    )

  • Paste in Place in Photoshop CS6 is not working, am I missing something?

    Hey there,
    I've been using the Creative Suite since CS4, but still count myself as a beginner.
    I'm building a psd file with vectors from an ai file. I recall that in CS5 and CS5.5 I had no issue copying a vector from Illustrator and then using "paste in place" to land it in the same relative spot on the Photoshop canvas. Today, my world has crumbled! Try as I might, I cannot get my vector shapes to "paste in place".
    I am using Windows 7, service pack 1, and CS6 64 bit edition. Both Illustrator and Photoshop were entirely up to date as of today, and I'm in the midst of doing a reinstall, just in case that helps anything. I have already tried dumping the preference file, to no avail.
    Having taken a look through the forums, it seems that Illustrator's clipboard has been handling data differently somehow, and I'm pondering whether this might be the culprit of my issue. However, copying and pasting in place within Illustrator seems to work fine, problems only arise when I copy from Illustrator into Photoshop.
    I feel that I am likely missing something easy to overlook, and I would greatly appreciate some help.

    I asked a friend about this issue, and he says that functionality was never there. Is that true? Perhaps it should be, it would be extremely useful. Even though I thought I recalled having done this in the past, I guess I must be mistaken.

    Illustrator has a different origin behavior. There is a global origin and a per artbord origin. you need to fix the problem in AI.

  • Essbase MDX - string functions are not working!

    Hi all!
    this MDX code works fine (LEN function):
    With
    member Scenario.MS1 as 'Len([Account].currentmember.member_name)'
    select { Scenario.MS1} on columns from http://Planing.Budget
    this code raises error (UPPER or any string function):
    With
    member Scenario.MS1 as 'Upper([Account].currentmember.member_name)'
    select { Scenario.MS1} on columns from http://Planing.Budget
    The administration tool I am using is for version 11.1.1.3 ..
    why? O_o
    Edited by: serzzzh on 14.10.2009 22:54

    Unless maybe if you're using J2ME and have very tight memory requirements (are you?) either an array or a Vector should be fine to hold 8000 strings.
    So I'm guessing, either:
    1) you're using J2ME, have a device with tight memory, in which case you probably need a redesign, either to move data off the device and into an online service or the like, or possibly to use the record db system that's in one of the J2ME profiles (although 8000 seems like a lot of stuff to put in such a small form factor device).
    2) the strings are in fact enormous, in which case array-or-vector isn't the issue
    3) there's some other problem. maybe you have a runaway recursive method or something.

  • Am I missing something?

    I've been scouring the web for examples of using PHP to
    access data from MYSQL. My issue is there is no real security model
    mentioned accept form weborb. All requests are made via POST to a
    php page, which anyone could make a page and post variables to to
    get data. Am I missing something obvious here? How can i secure my
    flex application and the php pages it uses to retrieve and assign
    data?

    I think that i was missing something quite obvious. I was
    assuming that requests were made via POST, instead of RemoteObject,
    which can evoke a php class directly. Even if a user could get to
    the php file via a web browser, they can't evoke a function/method
    in a class. I got Weborb working beautifully to make the connection
    and call the function.
    As a side note, if anyone reading has had trouble getting
    weborb working on an actual server for development, let me tell ya
    that It's much easier to setup a local environment (like MAMP or
    WAMP), get your program running and then transport it to your
    server.
    Also as a side note for anyone trying to make sure weborb is
    secure, AMF (but more specifically the RemoteObject) operates as a
    server call, not a user call. So setting up protection (.htaccess

    And won't let anyone go in a play with your configuration either.

  • Am I missing something regarding database queries from BPEL?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to execute what I would think is a simple query from within a BPEL process against an Oracle 10g database.
    I have a root table, meter_reading that has an id, a time, a value, and a foreign key to a meter_reading_type table with a simple id-name-description format.
    How do I create a PartnerLink in BPEL that queries for the last reading of a particular type? The SQL is easy. The problem is that with the relationship, I can't find the proper format for a pass-through query so that I can do the subselect AND the select by type (name column).
    Also, is it possible with the BPEL PM/OC4J combination to output the queries being generated from Toplink?
    I've looked through the toplink docs, but they seem to refer to doing this in Java, not in the toplink_mappings.xml file.
    Any help would be appreciated. If I'm missing something obvious, please point it out.
    Thanks for your time,
    Chris

    I am guessing from the examples and from looking around that the only solution to this complexity is stored procs and functions. What happens if you're not allowed to use them? Seems like an awkward part of a product that is owned by Oracle.

  • Am I missing something about Keynote video clips??

    Okay, I had a devil of a time figuring out how to get video clips into Keynote. Here's what seems to work: convert the clip to .m4v, add it to iPhoto, sync with the iPad and do an import in Keynote and then the video file will show up in the Media tab. However, when I do this, none of my clips had titles! So I can't tell one clip from another except by playing them. Am I missing something here?
    Also, when I tried importing the whole Keynote with the video clips from my iMac, the video clips were stripped out. Has anyone had better success? If so, how???

    Toad, you are incorrect...
    However it is a PIA to get it to work.
    In very un-Apple-like fashion, it is a several step, unintuitive process that requires another program. Luckily a free program...
    1. Convert your file with Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) and use the iPad profile. (P.S. My original .mov file needed to be converted to work on iPad. The built-in "Create iPad or Apple TV version" function in iTunes would not work for me. I received a "The video is already in the correct format" message. Annoying...)
    2. Put the converted file into a folder
    3. With your iPad connected to your computer, go to iTunes and select the "Photos" tab on your iPad.
    4. IN the "Sync Photos From:" drop down box choose "Select folder" and select the folder that contains your video.
    5. Check the "Include Videos" check box.
    6. Hit the "Sync" button
    7. Now the video will be available in Keynote. No desktop version required...
    P.S. I am a PC... Not a Mac.

  • Interactive reports not working - am i missing something ?

    Hi.
    I just upgraded to apex 3.1
    I wanted to test the interactive reports functionality. I can create the region with the query and i can set all the things under "report attributes".
    But when i run the page, i see the report with the initial data my query brings me up but i cant do anything. The search symbol is not clickable and the other symbol in the search panel is also not clickable.
    Did my upgrade missed something ? Any java things missing ?
    How can i chack if something is missing ?
    Thanks
    Bernd

    My Interactive reports on Apex 3.1.2 on 10g XE worked fine until one day I got the same issue with no known system changes. Fail on both IE and Firefox on multiple machines. Restarting Apex doesn't hep.
    IE error is:
    Line: 96
    Char: 1
    Error: 'gReport.controls' is null or not an object.
    Code: 0
    URL: ...
    Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Missing something with concat

    Am I missing something with the concat method under the String class?
    I have something like this..
    String testStr = "I am here";
    testStr.concat(" but not here");
    System.out.println(testStr);It compiles fine but all I get is "I am here"
    Any ideas?

    Thank you for pointing that out. I did read the
    javadoc, unfortunately I didn't understand exactly
    what I was reading. That was in no way obvious from your first post though.
    That's why I asked the question.
    Have any of you ever had to ask a question. If so was
    it over experimental material that you couldn't read
    or research about on your own? There is a difference between the act of asking a question and the actual nature of the question itself.
    Some people ask
    questions, thus the forum. Furthermore, to all of you
    who do spend time on here answering questions I offer
    sincere gratitude. You help development to be less
    aggravating. It's unfortunate that you have to deal
    with anyone that doesn't try to come up with the
    answer themselves and thus assume they don't try to
    figure it out on their own. I would ask for some
    slack, and maybe occasionally give the benefit of the
    doubt that someone was just not getting something.
    But many people don't try to figure it out themselves.
    And those people will ask the question in exactly the same way as one who did try alternatives but didn't bother to indicate that the alternatives were tried.
    So how are we supposed to figure out what the poster has done?
    And without my post how would anyone here even known that you knew what the javadocs were?

  • I've got to be missing something

    I'm new to flash and just trying to make a url link. followed
    instructions and I keep getting an error" '{' expected " in line 5.
    It's there!!! It seems right to me. Am I missing something. it
    seems simple.
    1.var link:URLRequest = new URLRequest("
    http://www.thebabbarogroup.com")
    2.
    3.LinkOne_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
    4.
    5.function onClick(event:MouseEvent):void
    6.{
    7. navigateToURL(link);
    8.}

    Is that the only code you have on a frame? Or, is this code
    in a class? If it's on a frame only, and that's all that's on the
    frame...it looks like it should work.

  • Old mySql driver, or missing something?

    Hi,
    i am a nub in web applications in java.
    I have a system using jrun4 (and tomcat 5 as a second app server), mysql 5, and the java connector driver connector/j 3.1.11 .
    The mysql database is running on port 3306.
    I am trying to make a connection to the database so i ve writen the following simple jsp program:
    <%@ page language="java" import="java.sql.*" %>
    <%
         try {
              String sAddress = (String)session.getValue("ADDRESS");
              String sDatabase = (String)session.getValue("DATABASE");
              String sUsername = (String)session.getValue("USERNAME");
              String sPassword = (String)session.getValue("PASSWORD");
              if (sAddress == null || sDatabase == null || sUsername == null || sPassword == null) {
                   sAddress = request.getParameter("ADDRESS");
                   sDatabase = request.getParameter("DATABASE");
                   sUsername = request.getParameter("USERNAME");
                   sPassword = request.getParameter("PASSWORD");
              // try a connection
              Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
              Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://" + sAddress + "/" + sDatabase +"?user=" + sUsername + "&password=" + sPassword);
              conn.createStatement();
              conn.close();
              // put connection data into session
              session.putValue("ADDRESS", sAddress);
              session.putValue("DATABASE", sDatabase);
              session.putValue("USERNAME", sUsername);
              session.putValue("PASSWORD", sPassword);
              // proceed with success
              response.sendRedirect("menu.html");
              return;
         } catch (Exception e) {
              out.print("<font color=red><center>" + e.toString() + "</center></font><br>\n");
    %>
    When i try to run it will throw a the following exception:
    java.sql.SQLException: Cannot connect to MySQL server on null:3306. Is there a MySQL server running on the machine/port you are trying to connect to? (java.net.UnknownHostException)
    i think that the main reason this is happening is because its trying to find:
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
    while the driver connector/j 3.1.11(which is the latest on www.mysql.com)is providing a class name:
    com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
    so i looked and found a very old connector driver: mm.mysql.2.0.12
    which is providing name class: org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver.
    the problem is still there though...
    Am i missing something????
    Is there a special way to install that driver???
    What step do you think i should follow???
    Do you think its something else that might be responsible????

  • Whats happening internally within the unflatten from string function?

    I am getting unflatten from string error intermitently in my program. I can't post the program to get help but essentially I am storing a GOOP object reference as a string. The reference is flattened to a string and stored upon creation, at a latter time the string is then unflatterned to retrieve the reference and then the data. This works most of the time but occansionaly the unflatterned from string function fails. Prior to passing the string to the function I am checking that the string isn't null. I am assuming something else is corrupting the string prior to passing to this fucntion and would like to know what would trigger the error in the function as it may help me realise what is happening
    prior.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

    Hi,
    It really seems strange this problem, but one thing that might be the cause is how you store the flatten string. You do not mention that. I have once had problems when storing GOOP references as a sting and passing them between test VIs in TestStand using a string parameters in TestStand. A flatten string might have special chars that not all applications (such as TestStand parameters) can handle that and just trunkate the string when such a char is present, mistakenly inteprets that as end of string. Have you tried to check that string length is the same?
    However to make sure you get rid of all problems with string termination, you really should cast your GOOP reference into something else. I would instead cast the reference to an U32, or
    if you want, to solve the string problem for other types than GOOP reference, then flatten the type into string and then convert the string to an array of U8 before storing it. This would by sure solve your problem.
