Ambiguous Error

Hi i m getting Ambiguous Error in my program, can ne one tel me plz wats that mean?
Error:
java.beans.Statement > Ambiguous Error

it is because ur program is earlier in 1.3 n now ur running in 1.4 or higher..............
In 1.4 java.bean.Statement class is introduced where as java.sql.Statement Interface was earlier there, so the compiler is confused about which statement object to take.
Just write java.sql.Statement where u r using Statement n write me if still problem wil come

  • Time Machine - ambiguous error message, cannot backup

    I've been without use of Time Machine for sometime (months) now.  I've been getting the following error:
    My backup drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex - 320GB) was a attached to my Airport Extreme, but in desperation I moved it to being directly attached to my MBP.  I've also excluded large number of files from the back up (reduced the full backup size to half the size of the backup disk).  Also, I've erased and reformatted the back up disk - twice.  No errors on it either.
    What would be really helpful, was if there was some indication as to WHAT the problem actually is.  This is a rather ambiguous error message, which does little to help a person to troubleshooot.  It seems like the backup is being hung up on a file or files...but I'm just guessing.
    Has anybody out there run into this?  If so, what was your solution?

  • Bug? Ambiguous error on overloaded varargs

    Hi!
    I don't understand why the following code throws an ambigous error.
    I simply create two same-named methods using varargs, one time for int, one time for float.
    If I call it I would suppose that it is resolved in the same way as always on overloaded methods, i.e. the first example should call the int... - version, the third the float...
    But Java throws an ambiguous error at compile-time, though an implicite cast from int to float is not neccessary if all parameters are pure int. Further no error is thrown when passing an int[]-array.
    This seems to me like a kind of bug. I'm using version 1.5.0_06
    public class TempTest {
         public static int getFirst(int... A) {
              return A[0];
         public static float getFirst(float... A) {
              return A[0];
         public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
              System.out.println(getFirst(1,2,3)); // throws ambiguous-error during compilation
              System.out.println(getFirst(new int[]{1, 2, 3})); // works as suspected for int
              System.out.println(getFirst(1f,2,3)); // works as suspected for float
              System.out.println(getFirst(new float[]{1, 2, 3})); // works as suspected for float
    }

    Ok, I read the chapter but I don't see the reason for this behaviour. Let's assume another more clear example:
    There are simply two methods for finding the maximum of the passed parameters, either passed as int or float
    public class TempTest {
         public static int max(int... a) {
              int max=a[0];
              // find the max of all
              return max;
         public static float max(float... a) {
              float max=a[0];
              // find the max of all
              return max;
         public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
              max(1,2,3,4,5); // ambiguous, though calling int[] suspected
    }I understood the section 15.12 as follows:
    1. find accessible and applicable methods, here both max(int...a) and max(float...a) will do it
    2. try to find a most specific of them:
    Assuming that an implicite cast is handled as e.g. int <: float in 15.12.2.5 it is that int[] <: float[] but NOT that float[] <: int[].
    Therefore max(int...a) is strictly more specific and maximally specific, so it should be used, and no ambiguous error thrown.
    So it seems that my assumption that implicite type-casting is handled in the same manner as e.g. int <: float is wrong, though I don't know why.
    In my opinion the whole varargs-concept is more or less useless, if you cannot overload a method with them like e.g. max(int... a) and max(float... a), though intuitively it is absolutely clear, that calling max(1,2,3,4) or e.g. explicitely max((int) 1, (int) 2, (int) 3) should call the int-version or any other that is nearest in implicite type-casting.
    So at least pragmatically I cannot be reasonable as long as I don't see any clear reason for that methodcall being ambiguous.
    [EDIT]
    I think I got the problem now:
    Though int <: float it is NOT true that int[] <: float[]. Simple because:
    int i = 3;
    float f = i; // ok
    int[] iarr = new int[4];
    float[] farr = (float[]) iarr; // not possibleThis seems to be the problem when finding the most specific method, because it is neither int[] <: float[] nor float[] <: int[], so ambiguous.
    I see the problem now:
    It is (nearly) impossible to convert between arrays of primitives when passing them by reference. Imagine: changes to the converted referenced array should have to be written back to original array of other primitive type!
    But then there >should< have be done any other trick when implementing varargs, because as mentioned before it is just a silly feature if it is not possible to overload in such a simple manner as max(int... a) with max(float... a)

    thanks in advance for your help

    Actually, this is probably going to be a bit more efficient on large scale data. (I'm guessing, if it matters then test...)
    SELECT DISTINCT HoldingsID FROM
      SELECT HoldingsID
      FROM tblHoldings
      WHERE tblHoldings.Title LIKE '%key%'
           OR tblHoldings.Contents LIKE '%key%'
    UNION ALL
      SELECT HoldingsID
      FROM tblHoldingsAuthorName
      WHERE tblHoldingsAuthorName.AuthorName LIKE '%key%'
    UNION ALL
      SELECT HoldingsID
      FROM tblHoldingsSubject
      WHERE tblHoldingsSubject.SubjectHeadings LIKE  '%key%'
    UNION ALL
      SELECT HoldingsID
      FROM tblHoldingsPublisherName
      WHERE tblHoldingsPublisherName.PublicationDate = 'key'
    ORDER BY HoldingsIDThe diffence is when the sort(s) to create distinct rows is done. In the first version, UNION must produce only distinct values, so three sorts must be performed, one to create each UNION intermediate result. In the 2nd version, UNION ALL doesn't produce
    distinct values, we delay the sorting until the last minute and sort all candidates once, instead of one sub-set once, one sub-set twice and two sub-sets 3 times. If this is a school project, the difference probably doesn't matter.
    By the way, many databases implement the DISTINCT keyword in such a way that it creates sorted result sets, sorted by the resulting column values. As far as I know, this is not guaranteed by the SQL standard, so the additional ORDER BY clause is still needed for rigourous portability to databases that don't work that way. If that's not a concern and speed is, in many situations you can drop the ORDER BY; however for small result sets the difference is nearly invisible, and even for moderately large result sets, sorting an already sorted result set is usually an Order(n) in-memory operation. For really big results, the database will be swapping results to disk as it sorts and this sort of optimization matters then. This also applies to the use of GROUP BY.

  • Ambiguous error messages ??

    Thanks very much for any help

    The problem is you imported 2 timer classes, one in javax.swing.Timer and one in java.util.Timer
    The way to get around this is to use the exact classes you want to import in your import statements as opposed to using the '*' .

  • Overloading ambiguity errors

    Any suggestions on how to resolve the error below?
    "/opt/SUNWspro/current-compiler/include/CC/Cstd/./vector", line 1131: Error: Overloading ambiguity between
    "std::distance<std::vector<bool, std::allocator<bool>>::const_iterator, unsigned>(std::vector<bool,
    std::allocator<bool>>::const_iterator, std::vector<bool, std::allocator<bool>>::const_iterator, unsigned&)"
    and "distance<std::vector<bool, std::allocator<bool>>::const_iterator, unsigned>(std::vector<bool,
    std::allocator<bool>>::const_iterator, std::vector<bool, std::allocator<bool>>::const_iterator, unsigned&)".
    Sometimes the subsequent "Where: While instantiating ...." helps locate the ambiguity.
    (None in this case. ) If this error were coming from user code, specifying '::' or 'std::' helps.
    But when it is in one of the CC include files, is there a recommended approach?
    Any input is appreciated.
    % CC -V
    CC: Sun WorkShop 6 update 1 C++ 5.2 2000/09/11
    Thanks.

    If you have copied the error message correctly, it appears you have declared your own "distance"function template outside namespace std, which is causing the ambiguity.
    If you haven't done that, you might have run into a compiler bug. C++ 5.2 is obsolete and is no longer supported, but you can download the most recent patches for it here
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/products/studio/patches/index.html
    and see if that fixes the problem. (In your case, select the link for Forte Developer 6 update 1. The most recent patches are from about 2002.)
    If patches don't help, see if you can post a small compilable code sample that shows the problem.

  • Wrong overloading ambiguity error

    Hi,
    The following compiles on Studio 7, but not on Studio 11, where an error is reported:
    Error: Overloading ambiguity between "myString::operator char*&()" and "myString::operator char*()"
    However, when myStr is defined const, then the code compiles.
    Why this difference in the behaviour of the compilers? Is it intended? Should unaccesible operators be checked for ambiguity? Why does the compiler check for ambiguity of methods which it obviously should not select in this case?
    #include <string.h>
    class myString {
      private:
         char * content;
      public:
         myString(const char * str) { content = new char[strlen(str)+1]; strcpy(content,str);};
         operator char*&() { char * cpy = new char[strlen(content)+1]; strcpy(cpy,content); return cpy;};
         operator const char* () const {return content;};
      private:
         operator char*() { char * cpy = new char[strlen(content)+1]; strcpy(cpy,content); return cpy;};
    int main() {
         myString myStr = "MyString Test String"; // COMPILE ERROR HERE
         const char * str = myStr;
         return 0;
    };

    The error is not on the marked line, but on the next
    line:
    const char * str = myStr;Yes, you are right, I marked the wrong line.
    >
    The rule for resolving overloaded functions is that
    all visible functions that can be called with the
    given arguments ("viable functions" in the
    terminology of the standard) are checked, and the
    best match is looked for.
    If there is no single best match, the call is
    ambiguous, an error.
    Only if there is a best match is accessibility
    checked. If the best match is not accessible, the
    call is in error.In this case, wouldn't the const operator be the best match?
    >
    The reason for checking accessibility last is to
    prevent changes in accessibility from changing the
    result of operator overload resoution. One can
    imagine different rules, but that is the C++ rule.
    (C++ Standard, section 13.3)This should only apply here if the compiler decided not to select the constant operator over the other operators. That would mean that doing two conversions (MyString -> char*/& -> const char*) would be preferred over doing one conversion (MyString -> const char *).
    Does this conform to the C++ standard rules?

    hth,
    -boris

    Yes, it's a compiler bug. I have filed bug report 6370669 for you.
    If you have a service contract with Sun, you can monitor progress on fixing the bug and get early access to a fix before a patch is released. Otherwise, you can check the Sun Studio patch page from time to time to see if a new patch is available that fixes the bug.
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/cc/downloads/patches/
    We do not currently have a mechanism to allow customers to file or track Sun Studio bug reports directly.

  • VPP Redemption Failing with Ambiguous Error

    I am running the most recent versions of Apple Conifguration (1.0.2) and iTunes (10.6.3) on an updated MacBookPro with 10.7.4 and one of those fancy Bretford cards.  I am trying to deploy ~40 iPad 2 devices with a bundle of free and paid-for apps.  I have more than 40 available licenses for each product, including the devices that have been previously licensed with one redemption code. I have checked serials for the iPads and corresponding redeem code on different apps multiple times. However, I am receiving failures on 3 of 30 iPad devices (30 per batch limit because of the Bretford cart), stating App unauthorized.  The yellow tooltip upon mouse highlight states the obvious: an app cannot be authorized with an invalid redemption code.  The problem: there are more than enough, even if it burns threw a new one, and there are many remaining according to Apple Configurator. I am not sure how to troubleshoot this anymore, because I cannot figure out which app, or which iPad (since it reset all the names, I cannot tell any of the 30 devices with the name "iPad" apart) or which redemption codes are throwing errors.  Completely erasing the devices prior to reinstall of the image and apps does not help.  Supervision mode does not seem to help either.
    Below are the logs from a sample session (also on pastebin.com), most notable for their total uselessness (at least from my perspective) in helping me see what is going wrong with which iPad, app, or redeem code.

    Are there any other people at Apple that can help troubleshoot this bizarre error?  Thank you.  I have to tell you, 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 of Configurator appeared to better, and this software because more and more garbage and wasted time for me with each iteration.  I routinely have "failed devices" after a prepare step where the number of devices is greater than those physically present, and it has been this way on more than one occassion.  The only thing that changed from each version is the offset in the erroneous number is getting smaller, so I guess I should be thank.

    Hi alexanderstein,
    I don't know how to decipher the error log, but I can tell you what I've experienced with Apple Configurator 1.1.2 errors and school VPPs.
    Typically when I see an error in Configurator that says an app is unauthorized, its because the app was not downloaded with the same Apple ID as the one that was entered into Configurator. Apple Configurator seems to be very picky with the order of steps that need to be done for everything to work nicely. So if I was in your shoes, here's what I would try next…
    First if all of your devices are still "Supervised" I would uninstall the app which will "return" the VPP codes back into Configurator. If you originally installed the paid apps under "Prepare" the VPP codes may have been redeemed and unfortunately Apple doesn't let you "return" them (give Apple Edu/VPP support a call 1-800-800-2775 if you aren't able to "return" them. I don't know if they can help, but its free to ask). So hopefully they are still "Supervised" so that you can get the codes back into AC.
    Then, go into iTunes and authorize with an Apple ID (iTunes -> Store -> Authorize this computer). It doesn't have to be a VPP Apple ID…just an ordinary Apple ID used to associate with the app (maybe you could create a new "cart" Apple ID specifically for the cart). Then re-download the app(s) from the iTunes store. They will go to ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications. These apps will be linked to the Apple ID you authorized in iTunes. Next go into Apple Configurator and add the apps on the Prepare -> Apps screen. When you try to add the app in AC (clicking on the "+" at the bottom of the screen), you should be prompted to enter an Apple ID and password (see screenshot below).
    It will say that "This Apple ID will be used to redeem VPP codes…" It is NOT the Apple ID used to purchase the VPP codes… The VPP codes can be redeemed by any Apple ID.
    You must enter the same Apple ID and password that you used to download the app in iTunes.
    After that, I would "Supervise" all iPads (and use the feature to rename and number the iPads so you'll know which one(s) are successful or not) and then reinstall the apps under "Supervision" mode. For me, these steps have "fixed" most errors that I have come across with Apple Configurator 1.1.2. As I mentioned earlier, AC seems to be very picky about the sequence of steps taken. So if I was in your shoes essentially I would redo the whole process making sure that I took the right steps in the right order. With any "problem" iPads, I would reset/wipe them and try to reactivate them with the new "cart" Apple ID (or at least try logging in to the App Store on the iPad with the "cart" Apple ID).
    I hope this helps. We are all learning together through some pains of self-discovery unfortunately when it comes to managing and deploying iPads. I'm curious to see if Apple replies to your issue. Please post if they do so that we can all learn. Apple Configurator is a step in the right direction for Apple, but AC still has a long way to go to be successful in schools and businesses. If rumors are true, iOS 6 will be more "enterprise friendly," and I'm hoping that a new iOS will also bring us a new and improved Apple Configurator. Keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath…

  • CU4 did not resolve 485 Ambiguous Errors

    I have updated our Lync installation to CU4 and I have confirmed many times that the update was applied. I still get the 485 error when I assign a user a number that has extensions associated with it.
    Any idea why this continues to happen? Did CU4 only resolve this issue with Response groups?

    Hi,there,
    You can go to Lync control panel->voice routing->dial plan,then you can see the default dial plan with normalization rule,you also can create another dial plan with other normalization rules.Details you can check

  • Error with Statement Rule: Reference is ambiguous

    Hello,
    Hopefully someone will be able to help me out with this inquiry. I have a configurator model where the BOM has been imported. Within this model, there are two BOM nodes of the same name (Item Number) but they are unique in the model by their effective dates. Basically, I have the following:
    Model
    __Feature1
    ____Option1 Eff_In: 1/1/2009 Eff_Out: 9/20/2011
    ____Option1 Eff_In: 12/21/2011 Eff_Out: 9/21/2090
    If I create say a CONTRIBUTE statement rule referencing node 'Option1', I get an error that reads "The reference Option1 is ambiguous". I understand that I am getting this error because Configurator cannot determine which instance of this Option1 I am referring to. Can anyone tell me how I can specify the specific node required? I would have expected that Configurator would always look at the structure effective dates, but it would appear not. I have looked at using full path or properties as part of my node reference, but the effective dates don't appear to be a standard system property that can be referenced (unless I missed something).
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul Wentink

    RE: [configsig] ambiguity error
    Hi Lauree,
    As Carole rightly pointed out, this issue has been recently fixed in 11.5.10 branch. This happens only when the ECO change brings one or more item’s attribute changes. i.e. for instance an OC undergone an ECO change, with {min=0 and max=null} prior to ECO change and {min=0 and max=1} after ECO change can cause this issue.
    With regards,
    Veerendra S.

    Hi Lauree-
    This is a known issue, and I had them create a fix for it in 11.5.10 when we were on 25-43A. Now the issue exists in 12 and I haven’t yet logged the TAR for that. We have exactly the same issue as we force all bom changes through ECOs, and even putting effectivity dates on the rules that match the effectivity dates of the BOM does not resolve the issue. Fix was produced off of TAR 7619362.994, looks like bug number was 8737252….not sure what release it was part of, we applied it as a manual fix, a jar file and an update to package body for cz_model_util_pvt.
    Holler if you need more info.
    Thanks!
    Carole

    Have you refreshed the model since this change?
    The only time I have received this error was if I was using the same component in more than 1 option class or option feature and it tells me that I need to further define the path to the object in the rule such as
    'ATO Model Name'.'Option Class 1'.'8003-518.8003-519.8003-502.029-4572-03' or

    Subject: [configsig] ambiguity error
    I have a component that is currently in a logic rule. When this component is in a logic rule it works.
    This same component was changed out on an ECO, causing 2 records in the BOM. One with an end effective date and another with a begin effective date. When I convert my rule to a statement rule, I receive this error. I’ve received this error in the past and normally I thought I’d just changed the effectivity range associated with the rule and that resolved the issue. But, it’s not resolving the issue today.
    Is there any other way for me to resolve this without deleting the component in the bom that has been effectively end dated? I don’t want that route because that defeats the purpose of using an ECO and general foundation of why we use ECO’s for our healthcare products.
    The reference 8003-518.8003-519.8003-502.029-4572-03 is ambiguous.
    Thanks,
    Lauree Swihart

  • Any new user creation gets: unable to log into user account error

    Sort of reposting from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2795507&tstart=0 as that initial question was answered.
    Anyway, running an xserve managing all network accounts (only local accounts are a local admin on each system). DNS checks out and all current users can log in fine. However, it seems any new user I create keeps getting this wonderfully ambiguous error. I've tried Guest (but figured it probably interfered with the Guest Account), Student (but thought it might be interfering with a group of the same name), Guest Student, and Temp User.

    Just making sure, you have selected the home location, and then actually pressed the "Create home" button? I have missed it few times and then wondered why it is not working. Then check the home folder location that it is actually there and created successfully.
    Yeah, and then hit Save!

  • Can't Burn Playlists to Disc ... Error 43 ... iTunes was Not Properly Installed ... Diagnostics Included

    Hi. Immediately after installing iTunes a dialogue window appears stating that "itunes was not properly isntalled. if yuou wish to import or burn cds you need to reinstall itunes." This happens even after I complete the installation w/ antivirus disabled.  Indeed, I am unable to burn playlists to cds.  Upon attempting to do so, iTunes produces the ambiguous error message:  "Disc Recording not found ..."
    My instinct tells me this is a problem w/ the GEAR driver software. I've uninstalled the driver manually, and then reinstalled it as per: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308 (Solution 3). Still, the problem persists.

Yours is the first post on this I've found so I suspect Apple may not be aware of the issue or it is affecting relatively few users. If I find a solution I will post again and meanwhile hope that the next update solves the problem.

    We are using LAST_NAME column at diffrenet places in the query from S_CONTACT table using different joins. when I run the same query in SQL, not getting any error as we are using different join aliases.This is happening only when I use the same query to crawl the data in SES datasource.
    Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

    Query format: SELECT * FROM (< your query >) WHERE KEY=<value>
    Can you please tell me what could be the value for "KEY=<value>"

  • Duplicate/ambiguous addresses in iMS 6.3

    I've just migrated from iMS 5.2 to iMS 6.3-1.04. Our old iMS used dirsync, so direct comparisons are difficult, but when email addresses which used to be considered unique are used in the new system, I'm getting the "duplicate/ambiguous" error.
    Here's the sample LDAP from one of the affected users, who married, and carried two LDAP entries (serial numbers filed off):
    dn: uid=abcde, ou=nsPeople, o=company.com, c=US
    mailalternateaddress: [email protected]
    mail: [email protected]
    maildeliveryoption: forward
    mailforwardingaddress: [email protected]
    objectclass: mailrecipient
    mailhost: mailhub.company.com
    inetmail: yes
    dn: uid=12345,ou=nsPeople,o=company.com,c=US
    mailalternateaddress: [email protected]
    mail: [email protected]
    mailforwardingaddress: [email protected]
    objectclass: mailrecipient
    Our old iMS 5.2 system keyed only on "objectclass: mailrecipient" for valid entries, but when you send to "[email protected]" it had no problem forwarding to the Exchange address.
    The new iMS 6.3 system views both as valid. Is there some way to set an LDAP filter on an attribute which will let iMS 6.3 pick out valid email? iMS 5.2 had the "local.imta.ugfilter", but iMS 6.3 has nothing like that I can find.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Chris

    Hi,
    mailalternateaddress: [email protected]
    mail: [email protected]
    mailforwardingaddress: [email protected]
    objectclass: mailrecipient
    Our old iMS 5.2 system keyed only on "objectclass:
    mailrecipient" for valid entries, but when you send
    to "[email protected]" it had no problem
    forwarding to the Exchange address.Do you mean "objectclass: mailrecipient" or "inetmail: yes"? Both accounts have the former so wouldn't this have caused confusion with dirsync?
    The new iMS 6.3 system views both as valid. Is there
    some way to set an LDAP filter on an attribute which
    will let iMS 6.3 pick out valid email? iMS 5.2 had
    the "local.imta.ugfilter", but iMS 6.3 has nothing
    like that I can find.Ideally you should be looking at cleaning up the duplicate addresses -- so having a one-to-one model (one email address per account). Anything else is bound to lead to problems in the future.
    One thing you may want to try is to add the following to the inactive account:
    "mailuserstatus: deleted"
    From the Messaging Server Admin Guide:
    "Sanity Checks on the LDAP Result: After the LDAP search has returned a result, it is checked to verify that there is only one entry in it. If there are more than one, each entry is checked to see if it has the right object class for a user or a group, a non-deleted status, and for users, a UID. Entries that do not pass this check are ignored. If the list of multiple entries is reduced to one by this check, processing proceeds. If not, a duplicate or ambiguous directory error is returned."
    The one downside I can see with this is that if you run a commadmin purge or similar it could remove the entry (since its marked deleted) - this is something you would need to test.
    Regards,
    Shane.
