AMD dual core 64 X2 and Opteron 1**; what motherboard.

Hi to everybody, my name is Mauro and I am Italian. I have had for many years a lot of mobos MSI that are shown always reliable and with really excellent utility. An example the LiveUpdate that unlike utility of other brand is very comfortable and reliable. Currently I have a system AMD 64 X2 3800+ stepE4 with Asus A8N SLI Premium and memory RAM G.Skill PC4000 (chip Samsung UCCC) F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ PC4000. I have many problems of stability and I would want to return to the brand MSI. I use the PC as Workstation I am not interested to the SLI and I would want soon to pass to the CPU Opteron 1 * * dual core. The customer care G.Skill has reported that the brands of reference for the development of the forms are the MSI and few others. You would know me to suggest a complete mainboard in the endowments, silent and compatible with the CPU from me you quote. How VGA I have both chip ATI X700 Silent Pipes 256Mb or NVIDIA 6600 always silent pipes 256Mb. I am not interested to overclock. I am observing with attention the RD480Neo2 and other mobo with chipset NForce Ultra K8N Neo4 Platinum. Thanks for your share and suggestions.

Skippy, that's changing fast. Probably most major manufacturers are now explicitly supporting the Opteron.
Even MSI is getting there: K8N Diamond Plus
Hi,
To a careful study I have discovered that perhaps my Asus A8NSLIPremium has a problem that Asus is resolving. However I have asked to one friend of mine to make a will the MSI K8N Diamond Plus; in Germany it is already available some exemplary. The fact that the development has been made really with the Ram DDR that I have purchased (the G.Skill PC4000) it is a very important factor for the stability of a system. You introduces then with a good section of feeding to 4 phases it is very important. Certainly I am not interested to the characteristics of overclock but a Ferrari is not purchased only for racing. I have not told you that in so many years I have almost always had 2 brands that have always guaranteed me reliability: Abit and MSI. Objectively now that have tried also a lot of Asuses (5) I are not fully satisfied. For instance the Utility: LiveUpdate2 gave me reliability in the update of the bios (operation that finishes in DOS); the utility AsusUpdate because of a bug in the summer '05 are cost me 3 MB (update that departs in auto and it finishes in Windows). Resulted not could remain without MB I have had to purchase other identical MB. And treating itself of corruption of bios no guarantee. I have also discarded Tyan because it accepts only certified RAM DDR and their support it doesn't guarantee the operation with my DDR G.SKILL. Now that are in game I don't sell certain the DDR!

  • Unexpected reboot during simulation using multisim on AMD dual core processor

We are using NI-multisim 10 in a classroom environment and are experiencing sudden reboots during simulation without giving any error or warning. This happens on multiple machines, all being Dell Optiplex 740 with AMD DC 2Ghz as processor. Since these problems happen so frequently, making  teaching quite impossible, we have shifted PC-room and are now using older machines. On these machines - Dell GX280 using intell P4HT-2,8 Ghz - we experience no more problems.
Is this reboot problem related to the article :  Unexpected Errors with DAQ Device on AMD Dual Core Machine  (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/9CE22FE099AFB8BF862572FF007A5D45) and what do we have to do to fix this problem?

Can you verify your driver versions? Make sure that you are running the latest versions of NI drivers to ensure proper compatibility. If possible, you might try upgrading to multisim 11. If this does not solve the issue, try the single processor workaround in outlined in the following KB:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D0FC3BE7D9F331398625731A005D76B8?OpenDocument
Altough it is surely decreasing the performance of the system, certain cases have shown that there is no other possible workaround unfortunately.

I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

  • Compiling on a dual core machine and running the class files on linux.

does compiling on a dual core machine and running the class files on linux have any effect?

well, the problem that i felt was that when i runmy
class files on my machine(windows xp, dual core),
Thread.sleep(60000) sleeps for 1 minute. but wheni
run it on a linux machine, Thread.sleep(60000)sleeps
for 2 minutes. my application has a lot ofthreads.
I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that
sleep(60000) doesn't sleep for 2 minutes on the other
    machine.I, wholeheartedly, agree.
Due to timing issues it may seem to sleep a few milliseconds more, but not double.
Of course, if there is a "real-time" (or even simply higher than the Java app) priority program running that is using a lot of the CPU it may seem like it sleeps a lot longer than 60000, but that is a different issue.

  • AMD dual core 4200 2.2 vs i7 2.7?

Besides the obvious, what's the difference between these two processors. Is there a significant power gain from the i7?
I have a PC running the AMD chipset with 3 megs of RAM and just bought a MBP 13" with the dual core i7. What kind of performance gain am I going to see?
    Thanks!

I don't have both yet. Just ordered the MBP on a leap of faith. Hopeing the i7 is a much faster processor.

  • AMD Dual Core Processor - Problem between tracks

I am running iTunes on a dual core AMD Athlon processor and notice strange behavior on the computer. When iTunes moves from one track to the next, it sounds like it is playing the end of the first track at the same time as the beginning of the second track. The same mp3 files play perfectly when downloaded to the iPod.
My theory is that iTunes is using only one processor on each file (track) but can switch to the other processor for the next track. Since they are asynchronous, they end up overlapping during the transition.
BTW - latest drivers, including the May '06 AMD driver are installed.

There's no need to worry, it's just a neat little feature, not a hardware issue. Some people like it.
In iTunes, go to the Playback prefereences (Edit>Preferences>Playback tab) and make sure "Crossfade Playback" is deselected.

  • Is there a noticeable difference between Dual Core i7 and Quad Core i7?

    Hi everyone.
I'm going to be a college freshman this fall. I'm looking at 13" MacBook with Retina Display with dual core i7.   I'm also looking at the 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display with Quad Core i7. I want to major in science and have a concentration in photography, which means that I will run programs like Excel, PowerPoint (or keynote), and Photoshop.
Anyways, will there be a noticeable difference between a Dual Core i7 processor and a Quad i7 processor?
    Thanks!

Ceteris Paribus, the quad-core will be twice as fast as the dual-core.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum, Dual Core Center and Mem Voltage

I set my memory voltage for my Corsair sticks to 2.0 just as TheRamGuy at Corsair's House of Help forum had suggested. However, in Dual Core Center, it reports that the Memory voltage is at 2.7!!!!.
I seem to vaguely remember some threads somewhere in one of the forums about the MSI boards frying higher voltage memory, and so am concerned to say the least.
Or is there a better program that can display the Memory voltage??   Or do I believe the Dual Core Center readings?

Quote from: NovJoe on 13-April-07, 16:01:41
CPUID would let you know if your RAMs are running at the correct timings.
You can try SisoftSandra or Everest to check on the detected voltage in Windows.
OK, I've downloaded both SiSoftSandra and Everest. I don't see anywhere where these programs report/measure a memory voltage. One one screen, it will report on the SPD settings for the memory and lists the rated RAM voltage "setting", but not the actual juice going to it.
Oh, well. Must just mark it off as one less thing to worry about

  • Problem with Dual Core Center and MSI 3870

Hello again, my previous thread is this:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113164.0
The VGA works well, the problem is that AFTER i installed it the Dual Core Center stoped to work!!
Installed the dotnetfix again but no avail, still doesn't work.
And i know that happened after installed the VGA, so i believe that must be part of the problem.
    Thanks!

Try the latest version of Dual Core Center.

when the screen dims itself after a while  the screen goes into sleep mode or what ever it does and the orange light comes back on
but as soon as i run my finger across the touchpad  it goes out again the the wireless is still working
i have tried every wireless driver that i can find
also when i uninstall the driver  the orange light stays on for both on or off positiion using the wireless switch
Has anyone come across this before   or have any suggestions please  ????
Also  on the keyboard  all is working well apart from when i press the Capital lock key  the light does not come on
    many thanks

I asked AMD Support just that question, plus clarification on the driver situation, and their response was to just use the 1.0.8.1 PowerNow/CnQ driver with X2 CPUs on Win2K.  Given the slow uptake on Windows Server vs. the client systems I'm surprised they did not continue Win2K Server support for longer, in a market which is so important to them.

  • I recently bought a 13" Mac Book Pro i7 dual core processor and everything was just fine until now. I have been using iMovie for about a month and it runs perfectly, but now I can't seem to use it for more than 20 minutes without iMovie crashing. Help?

When iMovie crashes it also makes my compute very slow and unpleasant to use. Has anyone else had this problem before? Should I take my laptop to the genius bar? I owned this computer for over a month now.

Hello, i bought a HP dv6 a few years ago and now a need to do a upgrade.
and thought to put a 8 gb RAM and a SSD 500 gb disk. can i do this ?
    thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.

We kind of need the full model number. Yes to the SSD for sure, but just want to check the specs to be sure you can install up to 8 gigs. Very likely yes on the memory, too.

  • Which dual core to buy ?

Which is the best option, Opteron 165 or X2 4200+ (considering that they cost the same) ?

Quote from: decalpha on 07-March-06, 14:31:24
Just one more doubt, will my current Mobo. cause problems while o/c 165
Looks like youré going to be fine with a 165 opteron in combination with your MoBo / bios.
I would recommend a hdd format / new Win XP SP2 installation to recognize both cores and get best performance.
There is an AMD dual-core driver and a MS hotfix as well that could be used if you´re experience any kind of instability.
PSU looks fine and should deliver stable power and not set any limit for your OC adventure.
Don´t know what mobo/cpu fluctation you can expect on the K8N SLi Platinum board, but I got some 0,03v on my K8N Neo2 and it still handle a stable decent OC on my 146 single opteron.
As for dual-core cpu, I have an X2 3800+ on a DFI LP NF4 mobo overclocked to 2700mhz prime95 stable with both cores. It is powered by a Tagan 480w like yours. The cpu fluctation is practically 0,0 when running OCCT test.
Starting OC you probably already know there´s some bios setting that usually needs to be changed.
HT 4x or 3x depending on what "FSB" that is used ( HT 4x up to 250 and HT 3x above 250 )
The 165 has a low 9 multiplier which means you probably need to run very high "FSB" and use the HT 3x option if your going for higher OC ( compared to the X2 4200+ that has a 11 multiplier ) and for memory setting you will probably need to use at least 166 divider or even lower depending on what memory quality you´ve got ( only says 2x512 in your sig.)
I would also recommend running memory at T2 setting for best stability if you´re aiming for the higher OC numbers.
    Then you have to find out what vcore ( ex.1.4v) and vdimm (ex.2.75v) that needs to be set for OC and some other things as well, but you could always read more about the details here ;

  • K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Dual Core

I just received my new MSI K8N Neo4 LSI Platinum motherboard and I am waiting on my new processor AMD Athalon64 dual core 4400+. My questions are:
    1. If the bios on the motherboard is not the latest one will the motherboard boot with the dual core processor. If not what are my options?
    2. If I manage to boot, and all the components are new, assuming I will boot into DOS, can I make a bios update from there or I need to install Windows and then do a bios update?
    3. And what are the bios update procedures for MSI motherboards?
Thanks a lot guys for help

    Quote from: Dream_true on 30-June-05, 14:02:02
    hi,
In order to use dual core CPU on the MB, update BIOS to the latest version (3.4 and above) before using it. After flashing BIOS, please enter BIOS Load Optimized defaults, Save&exit it, then change CPU to dual core one.
For how to update BIOS, refer to:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/bios/note/award.htm
You can use the dual core without updating the Bios. However, your second core won't work until the update. So you can use the cpu without the correct bios version to install windows.
