An easy one: line height or padding-bottom?

I have an <h2> that I want to put a graphic on as a background image. It's like a hand-drawn underline that's about 6px high.
To stop the underscore being behind the text I notice I can increase the line-height a bit or add padding-bottom. Both give the desired end result and both have the same impact on the page.
My question: is one wrong or right or is one better than the other?
If there is a clear reason why I should go with one, it would be great to have a clue as to why?

Text has just one line left on the bottom to write in.

I have a BB Curve 8900 v5.0.0.900 (Bundle 1626, PkRDIEN 5.2.0.96) with T-Mobil service. I did the update for my phone a while ago. When I want to do a text message, the screen displays the previous message over most of the screen with just one line left on the bottom to write in. It makes writing a text a pain because I have to scroll up every time to make sure my text is correct. I've tried to live with this but I don't love it. Can I change this?

The easiest solution is VPN on Demand
System Preferences -> Network -> (VPN) -> Advanced -> VPN on Demand
Add the hostname/domain name of the resource you're trying to access over VPN to this list. Now the OS will track any access attempt to the specified hostname/domain and will automatically bring up the VPN connection (prompting for username/password if needed).
As for the Dock icon, that depends on the resource you're accessing.
If it's a file share, just mount the share manually then drag the share's icon from your desktop to your Dock. You can now click on the Dock to mount the sharepoint (initiating the VPN connection thanks to VPN on Demand).
If it's a web site, drag the URL from your browser to your Dock. Clicking the icon will launch the URL in your preferred browser (again, triggering VPN on Demand as appropriate).

Why does pressing the down arrow button result in going to the bottom of the page and being nunable to go up or down one line at a time?

i dont know what to say in way of clarification. when looking at a page i am forced to use the "slide" on the margin which is very sensitive on very long documents instead of the down arrow to move one line. pressing the arrow results in going to the bottom and you cant return using the arrow.

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
* Right click on the Back or Forward button
* Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens

Here are screenshots form Browser Lab. First from IE7 then from IE6. Why the hell is it different???? There is no padding, nor width of any kind anywhere???

What does seem to work in IE6 is to give left div a width of 694px, and right div a width of 260px, float right and margin-left: 0, and set the maindiv to width 954px.
I did not check this in IE7, since it really does not answer your question. Just thought you might like to know in case no other solution is forthcoming.

Advice on creating Answers with different line heights

Some of my answers have 1 line, some have 2, some even have 3 lines. Any recommendations on configuring my Quiz slide so that the boxes automatically resize?
Currently, I have two problems:
1) I need to manually page-layout every slide where one or more of the answers takes more than 1 line. This is taking a while.
2) I can't use "shuffle answers", because sometimes the 3 line answer is it's original space, and sometimes it's on a a one-line high answer line.
Any advice?

I try to avoid long sentences in MCQ but if necessary to have multiple lines (you can also reduce the font size) and I want shuffling this is my work flow:
select the answer caption with the greatest height
co-select the other answer captions and in right-click menu choose Aligh, Resize to same height
increase the height of the surrounding box (surrounds all the answer captions, this can also be done in the Quiz master slide, too bad there are no placeholders for the individual answer captions there)
move the bottom answer caption as far as necessary (will always use shortcuts like SHIFT-DOWN, CTRL-DOWN, DOWN not to disturb the alignment)
reselect all the answer captions, right-click menu, Align, Distribute vertically (or use the icons from the Align toolbar of course)
It is a pity that you cannot apply those style changes to all the MCQ slides, no Apply button in format accordion, no save default style in the top part of the Properties panel of the Answer captions. This means that the process has indeed to be done manually, but at least you can shuffle.

Spry Menu text cannot in one line?

Hi all,
Need your help!
I always have this problem which is when i put the text on the spry menu, then the text like about bonvo / business division tab is on 2 lines in IE and firefox. But in safari, the text is layout so well in one line.

I try to change the width in css as in auto, 100% and inherit but no diffence and the best is i use 100%.
Anyone know how to make it nicely fit one line whithout making the font size smaller?

First off, I have not seen Spry Menu Bars implemented in quite the way you have done it. Typically, all my menu items are in one set of nested lists. No harm in your method, but it seems a little laborious!
That said, I think the reason your menu items are stacking up on two lines is having to do with the padding. If you change the padding on the list items from 5px all around to 0 5px, zero top and bottom and 5px left and right, you will have given each of them just a little more elbow room and they should not break lines.

Can the next version please allow for the line height to be zero in a text box? I can only go down to .01?

I want to create a flipping calendar. I had this brilliant idea of putting each date 01 02 03, etc in one text box, with a hard return in between, and then set the line height to zero. Then set the type to appear one paragraph at a time. It would eliminate 20 animation steps. It worked beautifully except that I can't get the line height to set to zero. It will only go to .01. Bleh!
So please, Can the next version allow for the line height to be zero in a text box?
Also, separate timelines would be nice instead of one long string so it would be easier to have more than one animation happening at once.
Just a thought.
PS - I also noticed it would be nice to have the option of having the first line in a text box dissappear or dissolve or flip out before the next one comes in, rather than just each building in on top of each other.

How to get columns of type to line up across the bottom of the page

I want to improve a newsletter I design. Right now all the leading is the same throughout. Body copy, caption & Heads. I want to add space after the paragraphs. I want the captions to have less leading than the body copy. That's doable right? Withe Baseline Grid. But how can I get the columns to line up at the bottom of the page if each one is an unpredictably different height? Maybe this is a design grid problem not a typographic one? Any suggestions?

If you use a baseline grid and space before/after your spaces must by necessity equal the leading (using the align to grid option will force them to the grid, regardless of the chosen size). The grid should match the leading of your body copy.
If you have headings that you want space before and after, don't align them to the grid, but make sure that the total of the space before, after, and leading for the style add up to a multiple of the body text leading. That will work smoothly everywhere except at the top of a column, where the space before is ignored, and will be added to the space below by virtue of the align to grid on the body copy.
If instead of having all the copy lign to the grid you just want the top and bottom lines flush, and you want the leading within the paragraphs constant, but a variable space between paragraphs, set the text frame to vertically justified, then set the maximum spacing between paragraphs to a ridiculously large number and all of the extra space required to fill the column will be split between the paragraphs.

How can I display one line at a time on a PPT slide

I am using OFFICE for the Mac (2008).
In the past, I have known how to do this using PPT on a Windows PC..
But something has changed and I can no longer figure out how to get each line on a PPT slide to appear one line at a time every time I click it.
It's not that difficult, but I can't figured out where they moved the "Appear" option.
I am NOT using KEYNOTE, but PowerPoint from OFFICE for the Mac (2008)
Can someone help me.

Since this is a Keynote discussion forum, there may be no one here that knows. I personally hate PP and could care less about how to make one line display at a time. It is easy on Keynote and that is all I need to know. You might want to look for a PP forum and ask there.

My PC has blue screened twice in the past week so I force quit it it came back on a few times after that it is now grey screening with inch wide blue lines from top to bottom the apple logo is there and it is trying to boot up but nothing happening

My Mac has blue screened a couple of times this week it started to work a couple of times after that but now it is grey screening with inch wide blue lines from top to bottom the apple logo is also there it is trying to boot up again but won't. Not sure don't know anything about how to fix things but I suspect the fan has stopped working as I can't hear one. The problem I have I now live in Turkey and I am 1000 km from the nearest apple shop which is in Istanbul I believe and I now live in Didim, Altinkum I don't trust the everyday Turkish shop to take it to as they will tell you they know how to fix it but will probably make it worse, typical in Turkey. Please can someone help as we use it for our business and obviously I need it up and running ASAP I am using IPad and iPhone at moment but can't access my files which are on PC.

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

I have a report that displays observed behavior in a list format like the one below:
Behavior Observed:
    Withdrawn
    Happy
    Sad
    angry
There are 5 responses as to the severity of the behavior or it is left blank if the behavior was within normal limits.
So the output would look like this:
Behavior Observed:
    Withdrawn            (mild)
    Happy
    Sad                      (moderate)
    angry
The problem is that when this report was designed the details sections were not uniformy formatted and the spacing between data elements is hard to follow from the label to the data field. I tried to set the details to be uniform by selecting "Arrange Lines", however when I do this, the data is displayed too close horizontally. So my question is how do I set the default line height for each field so that they are uniform in distance from each other but not too close due to the font height?
Does this make sense?

all you have to do is create a concatenation formula. Something like this...

How do I input multiple numbers to go to multiple variables in one line?

I was wondering what I had to do to input 5 variables on one line. I have the program running fine, but I'm stuck at the part where it says "The numbers will be input five per line, on four lines".. Aside from poor grammar, it doesn't make any sense to me. Here's the whole question:
Write code that will fill the array twoDArray(declared in the line of code below) with numbers typed in at the keyboard. The numbers will be input five per line, on four lines. Use the following array declaration:I don't need any immediate help with the array itself, just the input (unless the input is directly related to the array). Just in case, I'm going to post my code. This is still very messy, because I'm not done, and it's might be somewhat sloppy as I'm new to 2d arrays (in java).

When I was learning Basic (good old Kemeny & Kurtz style, when Basic was simply a simplified Fortran, not Bill Gates style) you simply have to write

I do not think that it is possible to have more than one Automated Row Fetch process in a given page. See the thread:
ORA-01403: no data found : Unable to fetch row multiple automated row fetch
On your second question, the manual process should work provided:
P_ID has a value when the process executes. You can do it this way:
i. Make this process as a on-load After/Before header process
ii. Make sure that P_ID page item has value when the process executes (set it from another page or before the pl/sql process executes)

Make image appear one line at a time

I have an image of a seashell that I created in Photoshop.
It's just black and white outline of an image. What I want to do is
reveal this seashell image one line at a time. I tried creating
motion paths but only part of the image is visible at any given
time, the image doesn't get revealed toward the end. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest masking the image layer and then using whatever
form of animation (tweens, brute force, etc) works best to reveal
the image through the mask. If the image is organic in nature (and
assuming that you don't just want to reveal it top to bottom like a
scan) then probably hand drawing onto the mask frame-by-frame is
the best way (although this adds a lot of keyframes).

New to CSS, text-align and line-height ok in 'Design', but not in browsers (IE 10 & Chrome) on Win8

I work around by specifying <tr align="center" height = "77">   shouldn't the text-align: center; and the line-height: 3.0; be specifiable in my CSS??

Not sure what it is you are trying to do but what you have at the moment is invalid code which is most likely why it doesn't work cross browser. (of cousre this css does not help - line-height: 3.0; - 3.0 what? - px, ems?)
Here's an example below of how you could do it. Give your table a class (below it is called .myTable) then you can start styling the <td> cell, and anything inside it by appending the element like an <h2> tag to the class name - .myTable h2
