An equivalence for eval()

adding objects to a Vector, I'd like to retreive them with the correct original class type :
Vector v = new Vector();
User visitor = new User(1,"joe");
History hist = new History(1);
v.addElement(visitor);
v.addElement(hist);
Object oVisitor = v.elementAt(0);
Object oHist = v.elementAt(1);
// of course here I know the class, but I want to guess before cast :
(oVisitor.getClass().getName())oVisitor.aMethodInUser();
// doesn't work.
may be I should eval() the last code line but I don't know if it's possible in Java ?
anyone a better idea?
thanks for your help.
Laurent.

// doesn't work.
may be I should eval() the last code line but I don't
know if it's possible in Java ?No it isn't.
anyone a better idea?If you really believe that you need to do this, then you are working with a bad design.
If you think more carefully about what you are trying to do, you will probably realise that you would achieve nothing by doing it, even if it was possible. The type of a reference is used only at compile-time, so attempting to change it at runtime is pointless.
What do you want to do with the objects after performing the cast? Call a particular method? If so, then you must know the type yourself at compile-time in order to know what method to call, in which case you can hard-code the cast. If the method is going to be the same in all classes, then simply having them all implement a common interface that declares that method will work, then you can cast to that interface.

• Flex4 equivalents for Flex3

Hi - We are trying to rewrite the app in Flex3 to Flex4. This is what we have in Flex3.
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" backgroundColor="#FFFFFF"
layout="absolute" horizontalAlign="center" verticalAlign="middle" creationComplete="onCreationComplete();">
We found the equivalent in Flex4 as below.

But we are not able to do a horizontalAlign as center or VerticalAlign as middle. Pls help me on how to acheieve this.
Also we have a VBox as below
<mx:VBox x="0" width="800" height="820" backgroundColor="#FFFFFF" verticalGap="0" borderColor="#402F5C" borderStyle="solid" cornerRadius="20">
Again in Flex4 we have it as VGroup, but there is no equivalents for borderColor, borderStyle,cornerRadius and backgroundColor. Pls help me on how to acheieve this.

If you have a screen shot of what it should look like it may be more helpful.
But from your post, I'm thinking you're trying to do something like this below?

• Why Doesn't XMLIndex Create and Populate Upon Scale-Up For Eval Table?

Presently working with Oracle release 11.2.0.1 using xmltype securefile binary xml tables.
In a quandry here and hoping not to have to open an Oracle SR...
Able to create a working xmlindex against an 'Acme Eval' table in our development environment against an Acme eval table (estimate ~ 5GB) containing 325,550 rows. Creation takes about 10 mins. No partitioning is being used.
When trying the exact same xmlindex creation against our, much more powerful, pvs platform environment contaning 13,985,124 rows; the xmlindex object shows up as existing in the data dictionary, but the session never stops running after at least 24 hrs of runtime.
The pvs hardware environment uses: (1.) 24 processor, (2.) Solaris-64 OS, (3.) 128GB memory.
Two 1 hr AWR reports for the pvs environment shows a huge amount of logical read/writes. The foreground wait event; 'db file sequential read' dominates the DBTime @ 92%. There is about 4.6 GB physical reads/3.5GB physical writes - not too large relatively speaking. The I/O subsystem is having no problem handling the throughput. The top, by far,Time Model Statistics is the 'sql excute elapsed time' @ 99%. User I/O is the main foreground wait class @92%. These values are similar for both of the AWR report - except one report show the 'CREATE XMLINDEX...' statement as being the top sql. The other report shows ' INSERT INTO CROUTREACH.EVAL_IDX_TAB_I... ' As the top sql.
Been several days since this post. Hoping someone might be able to provide some insight or share their experiences on xmlindexes scaling up to millions of records in the 5 - 10 gb xmltype table range...
Regards,
Rick Blanchard
The frustration here is; there is no obvious database configuration, physical cpu, memory, or I/O issue - other than the logical gets centered around the db file sequential read' wait event.
Can't do much as far as adjusting the create index statement and underlying attendent Oracle xml operations - the main frustration factor here...
The xmlindex is still undergoing record insertions.
Additionally, in the pvs environment; no dml is allowed on the xmlindex and the select statement that works fine using the xmlindex via the optimizer in the development environment doesnt pick up the xmlindex in the pvs environment - as would be expected if the xmlindex wasn't completely populated.
Appears the xmlindex record population is stalled...
In the pvs environment, when performing the dml 'alter index croutreach.eval_xmlindex_ix noparallel';
get this error - typical when an xmlindex is being populated with records:
ALTER INDEX croutreach.eval_xmlindex_ix NOPARALLEL
Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified or timeout expired

• What is the replacement for eval in AS 3.0?

hi,
I have 4 movieclip in the stage. Its instance names are mc_1, mc_2, mc_3, mc_4.
To change the x posititon of this movieclip I can use the below AS 2.0 code. It is working fine.
for (i=1; i<=4; i++) {
eval("mc_"+i)._x += 10
I like to know how to write this statement in AS 3.0. Any help…..
Thanks
ayathas

If those are instance names you assigned via the properties panel, you can use the bracket notation:
for (var i:uint=1; i<=4; i++) {
this["mc_"+String(i)].x += 10;
The bracket notation also works in AS2.

• [SOLVED] PKGBUILD equivalents for other distros

I'd like to package some of my tools for other distros - mainly .deb and .rpm based for now. Ideally, I'd like to not have to build full packages for each distro, but instead host build scripts or equivalents of PKGBUILDs for other distros. As I am not nearly as well versed in other distros as I am with arch, I'm not sure how to find the needed information to accomplish this.
To take .deb as an example, the pacman rosetta page suggests debuild is the equivalent tool to makepkg. However, the debuild man page indicates that debuild can simply be run within the source tree to build a package. Certainly this can't be the case, unless there are distro-specific files within that source tree that debuild finds and uses. That man page does not indicate what these files are and how they are written.
I have found documentation for creating full binary packages for debian-based distros, but is there an equivalent to a PKGBUILD? I know for Gentoo, ebuilds are well documented and should be quite doable. But frankly I'm pretty sure most gentoo users wouldn't need my help with those. I'm currently primarily targeting .deb as many novice linux users that I'd like to make a couple of my tools available to seem to use ubuntoo.
I suspect I may just be missing the proper documentation and/or am not using the right search terms. Any nudges in the right direction would be appreciated.
(edit: marked 'solved' as I now have the information I needed to get started working on this - but more input can always be handy.)

I recently discovered Debian's `checkinstall` which is very close to what I was looking for. One can easily create a script that will download and install a "non-debianized" source package as a .deb that can be managed by dpkg/apt-get.
Allegedly it can also create rpm packages, but I'm not going to worry about trying that out for a while.
A simple example of a script to allow debian/*buntu users to install one of my packages can be seen here. There is an executable script called `makedeb` - guess what it does. There is also a package-specific file called DEBBUILD - guess what that's for . With just those two files, a debian user could run the script which would get the needed info from the DEBUILD to install the needed dependencies, download and build the source, install under the watch of checkinstall to a temp directory, have checkinstall build a .deb package, remove the builddeps (and optionally all deps installed during the build), and leave them with a *.deb file ready for dpkg.
This instance of makedeb was intentionally made generic so it could work for other packages, however it is also *very* simple and so will not work for all other packages. A DEBBUILD is nearly identical to a PKGBUILD, except the dependency names need to be converted to the debian deps (and there may be many more deps needed as you cannot assume our base/base-devel components are there ... and split -dev packages suck).
Making this DEBBUILD + makedeb made me wonder how hard it would be to convert our own makepkg over to work on top of apt-get/dpkg. I've installed debian (crunchbang) on one of my systems to experiment with this. I've realized there may not be much to it really. I've just completed my revision to the actual makepkg script (and makepkg.conf) to make a full featured makedeb and makedeb.conf. It is not yet tested - and once I test it I may find it is not nearly as complete as I had hoped. But the goal is to allow PKGBUILD -> DEBBUILD conversions to be quite easy (just change the deps).
I may post my full featured makedeb in "community contributions" if/when it passes a few basic tests. It will not run on arch, but it is suited for archers who need to make debs. It may eventually run on arch (there are dpkg is in the AUR, and so is checkinstall, though it is very broken ATM), but this is not a goal of mine.

• Naming buttons in different mc's for eval obj

Hi
I'm quite new to flash, from a design background. I'd really appreciate help with this. this is my first web site in flash and I'm getting really confused with movie clips, I made my menu as a collection of buttons in a new movie clip. I wanted to re use this on each page of my site but found that if I edited it the edit rippled all the way through each instance. So I made different movieclips for each page each with my navigation buttons in them. Now I want to use the eval obj to reference these buttons from my event listener, I know I must give each button a unique name, will it be ok to use the same name eg "home" for different buttons in different movie clips on different pages and still use one piece of code with the eval obj pointing to the correct label to jump to when it is clicked?
Also , how do you use one single movie clip for navigation accross different pages if you need to slightly change it for each page ?
cheers
chelsea

place your buttons in their own layer in frame 1 of your main timeline and extend that layer across your entire main timeline.
then add code for each button to direct the main timeline to the appropriate frame label or number.

• Any alternative for eval()

As eval() is removed from AS3, I am facing problem while
using loop and making multiple TextInput invisible.
Here is my code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
public function hideInputs():void{
for (i=0; i<3; i++){
["input"+i]visible=false;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:TextInput x="75.5" y="44" width="100"
id="input0"/>
<mx:TextInput x="183.5" y="44" width="100"
id="input1"/>
<mx:TextInput x="291.5" y="44" width="100"
id="input2"/>
<mx:Button x="75.5" y="103" label=" Hide Inputs"
click="hideInputs()"/>
</mx:Application>
As eval() is removed, I am using this code:
["input"+i]visible=false;
But this is also not working and I am getting an error
message "1064 invalid metadata".
Can anyone figure it out?
Thanks

• MBP Keyboard equivalents for PC Keys?

Not sure where to post this question (OSX or here) so here goes for starters.
Are there standard MBP keyboard combinations that perform the functions of certain 101-key dedicated keys? Such as PageUp/Down, Home/End, (PC) CTRL+Home, CTRL+End, etc? I feel like I've stumbled onto a few, yet there are times (in Safari or some Mac apps) where I can't seem to move as efficiently, using the keyboard, as I was accustomed to on my PC. (I realize key combos could vary by software applications---just looking for any "typical" or fairly standard Mac key combos for easier page/screen/spreadsheet navigation.)
Thanks!

Thanks for the link, RK... lots to absorb, and hopefully some of those might be applicable in other applications. Perhaps it really comes down to which software programs I'm using, and what the developers of those programs created as shortcut commands, since it seems that some don't handle the same keyboard combinations the same way as other programs...
(As an aside, I'm baffled why the various menus (such as Safari) still give keyboard shortcuts by symbol such as \-, for the Option Key, when in fact the MBP no longer prints all the Mac symbols on the keys themselves! (Just the cloverleaf on Command.) So you need a cheatsheet to remind you which Apple symbol belongs to fn, control, option, in order to then try and memorize the shortcut! Still, don't get me wrong---I'm thrilled with my year-old switch to Mac!)

• Cursor problem ! (equivalents for insert, update and delete)

Hi,
I am having following three sql statements. I am using Oracle 8i.
====================================================================================================================

(SELECT 1
From
DBSchema.DstTableName Dst
Where
SRC.srcColP = DST.dstColP AND SRC.srcColKey = DST.dstColKey )
====================================================================================================================
Statement2 : Update

SET ( dstCol1,dstCol2,dstCol3,dstCol4, dstCol5)

Where
src.srcColP = dst.dstColP AND SRC.srcColKey = DST.dstColKey ) ;
====================================================================================================================
For the above three statement I have written the following cursor.
Equivalent Cursor:
PROCEDURE DEMOPROC

loop_Count integer := 0;
insert_Count integer := 0;
CURSOR c1

dst.dstCol5=SYSDATE
Where
r1.srcColP = dst.dstColP
AND
r1.srcColKey = DST.dstColKey ;
Delete
FROM DBSchema.DstTableName DST
Where
r1.srcColP = dst.dstColP ;
insert_Count := insert_Count + 1 ;
/* commit on a pre-defined interval */
if loop_Count > 999
then begin
commit;
loop_Count := 0;
end;
else loop_Count := loop_Count + 1;
end if;
end loop;
/* once the loop ends, commit and display the total number of records inserted */
commit;
dbms_output.put_line('total rows processed: '||TO_CHAR(insert_Count)); /*display insert count*/
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Error '||TO_CHAR(SQLCODE)||': '||SQLERRM);
END;
====================================================================================================================
I am not sure whether this cursor is right or not, have to verify it.
In delete and insert statements there is same where not exist clause in the original statement so I included that in my cursor declaration but not sure whether update will work with that or not.
I have to use the three statements mentioned above for few source and destination tables and each are having many rows. How do i tune it ?
What else can be done to improve the performance with the the three statements mentioned above.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks !

• Why do I get two different RGB equivalents for one CMYK color?

I’m helping someone incorporate their blue logo into business cards and a branding guide. The Illustrator file they gave me of their logo is set to the CMYK color space, so I used these CMYK values for their branding guide. When I click on the RGB tab to see the converted values for the CMYK color, they are insanely different from the RGB equivalent I get when using an online color converter, like Adobe Kuler. In both InDesign and Illustrator, the CMYK values for the blue logo are 79, 56, 2, 0 and when I click on the RGB tab in InDesign or Illustrator, these programs tell me that the RGB equivalent is 69, 112, 179. However, when I use the Adobe Kuler website and plug in the CMYK values, the website (and other websites like it) tell me that the RGB equivalent to this CMYK color is actually 54, 112, 250. I’m not sure which RGB value is actually correct.
That said, I tried plugging in the RGB values I get from the design software into the Adobe Kuler color converter, and I get totally different CMYK values than what the design software tells me. Which color values do I include on the client's branding guide?
I've heard that blue colors are notoriously hard to convert between RGB and CMYK, and I'm wondering if that's why I'm getting these drastically different values from different color conversion tools. I've also read that different ICC profiles might affect the CMYK/RGB values in the design program, but I'm not well-versed in this. Please help!!

the CMYK values for the blue logo are 79, 56, 2, 0 and when I click on the RGB tab in InDesign or Illustrator, these programs tell me that the RGB equivalent is 69, 112, 179.
69|112|179 is the conversion you'll get using the default North American General Purpose Color Settings—or US Web Coated SWOP v2 converted to sRGB. As Willi implies there are many flavors of CMYK and RGB so different sources and destinations, as well as the conversion intent, will produce different results.
So "branding" color this way doesn't really work because 79|56|2|0 CMYK will look very different on newsprint than it will on a GRAcol profiled press with glossy paper, and 69|112|179 RGB will look very different in a CC app with a ProPhoto RGB assignment then it will look in a web browser with no profile assigned.
The best you can do is qualify the values—79|56|2|0 US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 CMYK = 69|112|179 sRGB IEC6196-2.1 RGB

• Preference equivalents for relevant SQL*Plus set commands?

I know that the SQL*Plus set command is not supported in Raptor (as per http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/project_raptor/sql_worksheet_commands.html), but there are a number of set options that are relevant.
For example, set define (for which "set define off" is covered in Ampersand in scripts We have a number of existing SQL scripts where we have set the define character to something apart from & to avoid issues where this is a required value in the code.
Setting server output size is another option - as per set serveroutput on size unlimited .
Is there any proactive plan to provide preferences equivalent to the set options that are relevant (to either SQL scripts or the various output tabs)? Or is the exclusion of the SQL*Plus set command only for the current version and it will be included later? From the discussion on the forums so far, it seems as though you are looking at each set option as it is raised, rather than being proactive about it.
Even if Raptor does provide preferences, it would still be useful for the equivalent set commands to work. Lets say that we do get a preference for the define character - 99% of the time, scripts want this to be & - however there are some where the script wants it to be $ (or whatever). With a preference, I need to know what the script wants and change the preference before running the script and then change it back afterwards.

Hi Turloch,
When is this script executed ?
In 3.1EA2 I created a sql script where a variable is defined and set this script as you suggested.
Script:
define varname=abc
When I open a connection, a worksheet is automatically opened. I run this statements:
select '&varname' from dual;
define varname=xyz
select '&varname' from dual;
Running the first select statement results in a popup window for entering a value for the substitution variable, while I was expecting the value abc as the result of the query.
See also this blog where the login script is explained.
But in my SQL Developer 3.1EA2 64-bit on Windows 7 it doesn't work like that.
Is this a bug?

I want to start working on files between my G4/800 and my Macbook. The only problem is that I really rely heavily on PSP Vintage Warmer. I love the subtle boost it can give my mixes. Curious to know if there is anything close to it that is already Universal?
