An iPhone app as a document projector?
First of all I have to say that it was super difficult to even post my question since I had to pick a community, and when I found iOS apps it didn't let me choose that unless I picked some arbitrary, pre-designated sub-community that didn't meet my need at all.
I just wanted to ask if anyone knows of an app that uses the iPhone's camera as a live, real-time camera (like a webcam), sends that signal to a projector in order to project documents, like an Elmo. It would be great to mount my iOS device and project what I'm writing onto the board.
Look further down in this thread (post from tristenfromraleigh)... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3038077?start=0&tstart=0
I'm not sure how you get a facetime session going wth apple tv but we're getting closer. The ability to use the camera/video as a webcam would be a really nice feature.
Whoa... check this out! http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/12/broadcast-the-iphones-camera-live-to-an-apple-tv- with-airplay/. I haven't used the mirroring feature yet but it looks promising.

If I backup my iTunes Library by saving the iTunes folder on an external hard drive using the instructions contained in the link below, will it also back up all my iPad and iPhone backups as well as App Data and Documents from my devices? In other words, will it also create backups for the backups? Thank you.
Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive
Furthermore, when it is time to restore the iTunes folder I copied to my external drive to a new iTunes program on my new computer, how will it merge the information once I plug in my iPad or iPhone to that new laptop to sync? If I did the iTunes library backup a couple months ago and I've added documents/music/pictures on my devices since then, what will happen when I try to sync it with the new laptop now working off of the iTunes library backup from a couple months ago since the information is no longer the same? Which information will dominate and thus be kept? Will it delete the new information/data/pictures/documents/music off of the devices since it is not on the iTunes program when it syncs?
Sorry for so many questions, but they are all related to backing up and restoring iTunes. I am not very tech savvy if you cannot tellIt would be a good idea to look into a bigger hard drive. They are not that expensive any more and can save a lot of headach. This is even more important if you are buying music from the iTunes music store. If you lost those files they are gone.
The point of having it on your PC and iPod is to have a backup. If the iPod fails, or you need to go back to the DVDs and find they are scratched, or just can not be read you have lost days of work converting and organizing all of those songs.
Or the iPod could hard drive could fail and then you will have to try to bring all of those files back from DVDs. You end up with a mess since some songs will probably be on multiple DVDs, have different names ect. Trying to reorganize it all can be a pain. -
IPhone app build fails in Dreamweaver CS5.5
Working through a Lynda.com tutorial on developing Phonegap iOS apps, I continually receive the following error:
"The buid of "testapp" failed to complete successfully. Please consult the build log at .... for additional details."
I also receive this message when I attempt to build a basic app using the "Mobile Starters" JQuery Mobile (PhoneGap) sample.
Is there something basic in the setup that I could be missing that causes this error?
I don't know what to look for in the build log so I'm pasting the log below:

I have tried london1a1's workaround, and it has not made any difference.
It seems that london1a1 suggests changing the Camera.h file in this location:
Users/london1a1/Documents/DW_NAF/PhoneGapLib/PhoneGapLib/Classes/Camera.h
Whereas you're saying to change the Camera.h file in this location:
/Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5/Configuration/NativeAppFramework/DWPhoneGap/iphone/PhoneGapLib/Classes/Camera.h
I've tried changing the Camera.h file in both locations. Neither has made a difference. -
I am looking for information on iPad and iPhone apps and Mac software that are "top of the line" for academic research. The most current and comprehensive information I have found is dated July 2010.
PogoPossum,
My area of interest is in business and economic history. There is a considerable amount of reading and charting. Until the iPad hit the streets, I only considered stacks of books, journals, and downloaded documents, all marked up with highlighters, underlines, and marginal notes.
Most of my PC based work involved MS Office, Endnote, and MS OneNote.
What I would like to do with the iPad and MacBook are the same things (Office, Endnote, OneNote) and add the ability to read and markup all forms of printed materials from books to pdf to webpages.
I cut my teeth on an iPod Touch and have tried a lot of the note taking and reading apps. Without a camera the standard iPod Notes works for short quick notes and long think pieces. I just emailed the content and downloaded the stuff to my PC. Obviously, I do not want to continue at this "non-integrated" level of work.
Does this help?

Fresh install of Lion, what happens to iPhone Apps?
HI all,
I want to do a fresh install of Lion on my Mac. What is going to happen to all of my iPhone and iPod touch apps when I do this? Is there a way to back them up and then add them back to iTunes when I'm done?
I already have all of my photos, movies, music, Mac app .dmg's and documents backed up on a 1TB drive (not time machine, just manual). But what about my iPhone Apps?
I have spent a lot of money on these things and I do not want to have to buy them all again.Try a safe boot by holding down shift key during boot

Iphone app in App store not sync between ipad and iphone (apps buy) only my ipad ?
Hi
I have buy app on my ipad (iphone app) or buy app with my iphone.
Is not in my list into my iphone only buy list in my ipad ?
Yes is app for iphone or iphone too not a app only for ipad ;)
No sync of my app store with my apps ?
(Yes i have the mail confirm ;)).
How reset/refresh list "my apps" to my iphone ?
(Sorry for my english ;))
Ty,I was just looking at this again and noticed something strange.
Under the iCloud section of the Settings on my iPad, I don't have a "Documents and Data" option. Essentially, every time I use a program that wants to access iCloud for documents, that program's individual settings are reset to not use iCloud.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again for any help. -
Can i create Excel SpreadSheet in my iPhone App ?
Hello experts,
I need to create and apply calculations in the excel spreadsheet in my iPhone app and then email that file. Now email thing is simple. But can i create the Excel file in my apps Documents Directory and then apply calculations/formulas on the cells ?
If not, then i can go for server support but i really want to make it a independent application without any server side support.
Provide me some guidance regarding this.
Thanks in advance.Creating an Excel compatible spreadsheet App is non-trivial.
If you are looking for a working solution to your problem rather than how to write a spreadsheet program, look at Documents to Go, Mariner Calc or QuickOffice Mobile.

I am responsible for handling the apps and not at all involved with or know how the folio creation process works.
When I build the app for iOS the iPad version shows the folio that has been published, but the iPhone app is not showing the folio.
Is this something related to the build process or how the folio was created?
The folio also shows up in the Android app (at least the phone I have tested with).
Thanks,"Android and iOS viewers have different requirements for displaying folios. Any folio size you create can appear in an Android viewer. The articles are scaled and letterboxed as needed. However, on the iPad, the viewer displays only folios with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The iPhone viewer displays only folios with a 3:2 or 16:9 (1136x640) aspect ratio."

Using mail app to open documents in SharePoint.
Dear community,
We have connected Sharepoint 2007 to Microsoft outlook, which enables me to read files/documents in my outlook without first accessing Sharepoint. However THE question is if there are any possibillities to look from your email app on IPad or IPhone in your sharepoint documents without accessing sharepoint.
Let me know if anybody has à solution.
Yours Sincerely.SharePoint 2007 doesn't play well with iOS. You have probably already looked into using Safari and see that it is not a very good solution, particularly is you need to uplaod anything. You might be able to get by if you just need to view or download. iCab Mobile stores documents and will allow uploading if the browser ID is set to a version of IE. It works, but can be a litel cludgy.
There are some apps available in the app store that connect to SharePoint deployments. Some of these will by-pass custom or thirdparty webparts, so you will need to keep that in mind. Others may not work with private deployments or versions of SP prior to Office 365 integration.
Filamente isn't bad, but you may need the full version ($19.99) as opposed to the "lite" version (free) depending on the type of functionality you want. Read the descriptions carefully. -
I have 2 iTunes backups of my iPhone. Long story short, i want to copy the iphone application data (ie: Game profiles, save games, etc) from the old backup and add/merge the application data with my new backup. Then i want to restore my iPhone with new backup.
I have looked for 3rd party software and have not found anything that exports the iPhone app data that the app create on the phone. any recommendations will be most helpful. unless there is another way. ThanksMy situation is similar. I have an ip4. I also have an iphone 3G which I am now using as an ipod touch. I have different apps in each device. I am using my iphone 3G for non wireless function like documents, excel, databases, finances, etc. I do backup each device regularly. Since my iphone 3G is older and might die sooner, I am afraid that all my data will be lost.
Is there a way that I could merge the two backups together so if my 3G die, I could move all of the apps data from my iphone 3G to my ip4 without erasing all my ip4 data? Is there a program that will do this? I tried to google to find any solution but came up empty. Thanks..... -
Hi guys,
the last days we created an iPhone app and 960x640-Folios of our magazine that is already in the iPad newsstand and on Google Play (both 1024x768-Folios).
As we were testing the live app (free, public) with the same App ID as the iPad/Android App on our iPhone, we recognized that the 960-Folios were offered in our Android App.
Is this a bug or does this mean we have to create an additional Android-Version? Of course we do not want to sell the iPhone retina renditions on Android tablets, but the 1024-Folios.
Greeting
MichaelaThe viewers on the two platforms use different rules for displaying content. The iOS viewers display only folios in the proper aspect ratio (4:3 for iPads, 3:2 for iPhones), and the viewers scale both up and down. The Android viewers display folios of any aspect ratio, and they scale only down. So your 960x480 folio will show up on a Xoom both letterboxed and pillarboxed.
The easiest workaround is to create a special folio rendition for the iPad that's just barely not 4:3 aspect ratio, such as 1024x767. If your files are organized properly and you have a sidecar.xml file, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes. That folio will show up on the Android viewers instead of the iPhone rendition. You'll want to copy the files and make the source documents 1024x767 as well.
If you have time, designing 1024x600 and 1232x752 renditions will make your content look better on Android devices. -
Hi guys!
I'm a total Newbie to macs, iphones and anything apple. I just got my iphone yesterday
Anyway, I really want to create an iphone app that views a website through the "UIWebView". (I'm sure you can do this)
Then, i want to somehow read the gps location of the device (GPS satellites only - if not avilable, a message will be shown) (I'm not sure if you can do this, i've seen gps info apps in the app store, so im guess its possible)
Then the bit im im not sure about... Would it then be possible to take the data from the gps, and save it with NSHTTPCookieStorage "setCookie", which im hoping would be accessible from the UIWebView with a javascript read cookie function (document.cookie)
Does any of this seem possible? Really hoping the last bit to pass the gps via a cookie to the javascript in the UIWebView. Or maybe if cookies cannot work, is it possible to post the gps from the app to a server side mysql database, and then read it via ajax in the UIWebView.
If this looks possible im going to buy a mac mini and really have a go at making a iphone app
Thanks for the help (and thanks for reading my long post!)
