Iphone app development... GPS, UIWebView, and Cookies???

Hi guys!
I'm a total Newbie to macs, iphones and anything apple. I just got my iphone yesterday
Anyway, I really want to create an iphone app that views a website through the "UIWebView". (I'm sure you can do this)
Then, i want to somehow read the gps location of the device (GPS satellites only - if not avilable, a message will be shown) (I'm not sure if you can do this, i've seen gps info apps in the app store, so im guess its possible)
Then the bit im im not sure about... Would it then be possible to take the data from the gps, and save it with NSHTTPCookieStorage "setCookie", which im hoping would be accessible from the UIWebView with a javascript read cookie function (document.cookie)
Does any of this seem possible? Really hoping the last bit to pass the gps via a cookie to the javascript in the UIWebView. Or maybe if cookies cannot work, is it possible to post the gps from the app to a server side mysql database, and then read it via ajax in the UIWebView.
If this looks possible im going to buy a mac mini and really have a go at making a iphone app
Thanks for the help (and thanks for reading my long post!)
Regards.

Hi,
my Location Sender application does what you want: http://appshopper.com/navigation/location-sender. I am sending the location via HTTP GET method.

The find my iPhone app shows my iPad and iPhone in a totally different location about 100 miles away and my devices are in my lap.... I'm confused ...

Any thoughts on this , I'm worried that someone has cloned my device Id  and is phishing , or would there be just a major glitch in the GPS ? I have turned off the location app and turned it back on to see if it was a glitch still comes up to the same location about 100 miles way to a place I have never been.  Help !

  • UIWebView and cookies

I'm having an interesting issue here. My app takes a URL that the user wants to go to, for example:
    http://www.destination.com/someprivatecontent.html
and then appends another URL on the front, corresponding to an authentication site, before sending it to the UIWebView, e.g.:
    http://www.companyABC.authenticateme.com?url=http://www.destination.com/somepriv atecontent.html
Many companies use this scheme to authenticate users so they can access private (or subscription only) content while off the local network.
This works for most company site that use this scheme. In other words the user gets taken to the authentication site, they enter their username & pw, and then the site points them to the destination URL.
For some other companies however I have had reports from users that after login they are not taken to the destination site.
After some googling my intuition is that this relates to the fact that for some company sites, the authentication scheme ends up changing domains (sometimes several times) before eventually sending the user to the specified destination site.
Is this an issue related to cookies? Do I need to do something special with the UIWebView and cookies?
    * Strange thing is, when users manually type in the same URL in Safari, there is no such problem. They are correctly taken to the destination site. Why is there different behavior with UIWebView?
Thanks for any comments/suggestions. I kept the example purposefully vague for obvious reasons.

    bump...
does anyone have an answer to this???

  • IPhone App via Adobe AIR and Webservice

    Hi Forum,
I am trying to deploy a iPhone App developed with ADOBE AIR. This gets data from SAP via a webservice. When I test it on the iphone simulator provided by Flash Builder it works fine. But when I try to run it on the iPhone, it just does not get any data. It does not ask for the user credentials also. I was wondering if any one has tried this route and succeeded ?
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
    rgds,
    Rajvish

    Hello,
Just try to open the any sample sap webpage sitting on SAP server ,where the webservice is residing on the iphone browser,if
the webpage is opening, then there is problem in the application or else, your SAP server is not exposed on internet,so the webservice is not called.

  • Is mac mini 2010 good enough for iphone app development?

I'm planning to get a Mac Mini 2010, with 4GB of ram instead of the default basic 2GB. I'm getting it to do iphone app development. Is this computer going to be sufficient? Are there any caveats I should be aware of?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I got exactly that setup for exactly that purpose... even the 4GB upgrade Even without the ram upgrade it should still be fine for iPhone app development. I've not run into any problems with mine.
I got my ram upgrade because I want to run Windows inside MacOS using virtualization software - that kinda thing requires lots of ram.
You might want to wait two days though before you buy. Apple has an event on Wednesday (October 20th) and it looks like there will be a lot of focus on Mac, possibly some hardware upgrades and a new version of MacOS.

I installed Firefox sync and then used iphone app called FireFox Home and I can syncronize history, tabs and bookmarks. But I am NOT able to syncronize passwords from Firefox in my Macbook to FireFox Home on iPhone so I am very terrible to input my IDs and Passwords with my hands on FireFox Home when I log into Facebook, Twitter etc... Is it issue or something like that? If you have some solutions to make it clear, can you tell me how to syncronize memorized IDs and Passwords for the webs. Thank you.

You can look in Tools > Options > Sync

  • Is there any way an iPhone app developer can implement low power class 3 Bluetooth?

Is there any way an iPhone app developer can implement low power class 3 Bluetooth?

Ah-HA!  I knew there had to be a way!
Not quite the same in 10.6, but close enough to find it:
    It's iTunes>apps, not iTunes>iPhone>apps.  I didn't realize there were different windows.
Not double-click, but control-click.  Close enough.
Easy-Peasy, now that you showed me how.
    Thanks, Barry.

  • Developing Iphone App using Flash Builder and Flex Air Mobile

I started developing an Iphone app using the trial version of Flash Builder and was pretty impressed with how easy it was, then i hit problems:
Trying to submit my app, I was getting invalid binary, using google i tracked this down to a change in the Apple App Store meaning that all apps needed to have native iphone 5 support, which meant updating to Air SDK 3.7
Updating to AIR SDK 3.7 was a nightmare (mainly as a result of my failure to read the small print)
Once I got SDK 3.7 to  work with flash builder / flex mobile i though i was there.
However now i can produce a fast build but everytime i try and produce a standard / production build i get strange errors (air 3.8 does the same).
My Question is - before i actually buy Flash Builder has anybody actually achieved the following:
         Building an Iphone App using:
Flash Builder 4.7    (running on OSX)
         Flex Mobile 4.6
         Air 3.7
    If so how ?
    cheers
    Toby

Thanks for your reply, its nice to know its not just me.
the error i got when submitting to the App store where due to native support for IPHONE 5 which is now mandatory (from May 1st), looking around the internet the common soloution seemed to be upgrading to Air 3.7.
The strange erorrs on 3.7 revolve around compiling a standard / production build (fast build works fine)
the error is always the same (snippet shown below):
Error occurred while packaging the application:
    Undefined symbols for architecture armv7:
      "__ZN7avmplus8Debugger9debugLineEi", referenced from:
          __ZN7avmplus9MethodEnv9debugExitEPNS_13CallStackNodeE in AOTBuildOutput-4.o
          __ZN7avmplus11BaseExecMgr22debugEnterExitWrapperNEPNS_9MethodEnvEiPj in AOTBuildOutput-4.o
I have completly failed to work out why, but my gut feeling is its something to do with how the mac is compiling the code in standard build and unable to find a library it needs.
    cheers

  • Tomtom iPhone app external gps receiver help!

I use my iPhone tomtom app while traveling around Europe and there are a lot of places where gps is low is very low in Europe. Last time I went I lost gps signal and got lost and needed someone else to help me on the road.  I was wondering if I could get some suggestions of external GPS receivers that will boost my gps signal so I always have gps everywhere. I also want to turn data off as soon as I enter Europe so I don't get charged for data being used by tomtom. So if I could get some good suggestions of external GPS receivers that will work with iPhone 5 and iPad mini would be great. Thanks in advance.

    Anyone else seen this problem?
Nope. I have the same as you but no issues.
I have TomTom's Western Europe nav app on my iPhone and the TomTom car kit, but when I used it the GPS seemed jumpy, as in it kept wandering onto neighbouring roads and then randomly... I've done a restore of the phone and it uses the latest software versions....
So I downloaded the TomTom Car Kit app which allows you to see the GPS status of the mount and even after 30 mins outside with a clear view of the sky not a single satellite was detected by the mount.
Well you've done a what's necessary. I would delete the TomTom app and redownload it. If that fails I would assume that the mount is MIA and try to get it swapped.

  • Why mi iphone 5s factory apps like safari, mail and calculator crash every time I try to open it? I already reboot my iphone, delete my safari history and cookies and still crashing every time

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • IPhone app Developer?

    Hello.
I just spend almost 2 days considering purchase of iPhone SDK, and wanted to become a developer...then... a friend of mine just sent me a link to a web site with thousands and thousands hacked app's for iPhone, supposed to be selling for some amount on app store. I was able to download each app for free!!!!!!!
Why did I spend my time considering a serious dedicated work?...when people are naturally "redirected" to web sites like these mentioned above?
Can really Apple do nothing about this issue, or further .....how is Apple expecting to increase interest in / and sell SDK for iPhone when people working with it, will never sell their hard work, at least in quantity they estimated at first place?

All 3rd party apps via the iTunes app store include DRM protection.
There will also be a hacker who comes up with a way to bypass DRM protection - not much different from someone who purchases software that includes a single user license to be installed on a single computer only and installs the software on multiple computers, and/or installs the software on a friend's computer also, or provides a copy via a file sharing service - just as is done with music.
The overwhelming majority of people will purchase/download 3rd party software legitimately via the iTunes app store. When people download software from an Illegitimate source, they risk all sorts of things and when a problem arises when doing so, they get what they deserve.

  • Can anybody suggest iPhone app for GPS route backtracking

I travel in African bush and would like to know if there is an iPhone GPS application which can plot my route in an unmapped terrain and guide me back on the same route.
It does not help to get a direction to the start point as there are bad patches of sand, river beds and dense bush.
My old hand held GPS did it, but sadly is now beyond repair.
    Thanks.

No.  Commercial GPS (signal degraded relative to military use) can't be that accurate. The device would have to see > 10 satellites at the same time to get anywhere near that. iPhones do most of location using WiFi and cell tower.

  • Best place to fine an iPhone app developer?

any suggestions? i'm looking for someone to build an app as a mobile version of an existing site. thanks...

If you do a web search for "iphone developer forum" you'll find a number of independent web sites that host iPhone developer discussions. You might try posting a solicitation there. It will of course be up to you to evaluate the qualifications of anyone you contact.
