Android 4.0 WiFi stuck on

This seemed to be different to the other Android 4.0 WiFi issues people have been reporting so I decided to start my own discussion, to see whether anyone else has this problem.  My phone will connect to WiFi hotspots without a problem, and I can generally turn on and turn off the WiFi as expected.  However, I have noticed that whenever I physically leave a location which is covered by the WiFi hotspot I am connected to, the phone's WiFi appears to remain "locked" to the hotspot. Obviously in reality this isn't happening, as there is no longer any connection, but it still shows up with a full signal.  What is most annoying though is that I cannot turn off the WiFi. Using any of the soft options to turn off the wifi does nothing to the wifi connection, and it will not pick up any new wifi hotspots, nor will it allow me to do a scan or anything in this mode.  What's more, because the phone thinks it is connected via wifi it does not have any data traffic, so I have no internet connection. This cannot be rectified by trying any other fixes such as putting the phone into airplane mode (even in airplane mode it displays the wifi as connected at full strength).  The only way to restore functionality to my phone is to reset it (which is an annoying two step process thanks to Sony's decision to not enable a soft reset option unlike other versions of Android 4.0).  At first, the fault seemed more intermittant (i.e. it did not happen every time I left the WiFi spot) but now it is happening every time, and is incredibly annoying.  Does anyone have any idea what's going wrong here?  It is not a router problem so please do not suggest that I change channels etc.On the whole I have been extremely disappointed by the Android 4.0 upgrade experience for this phone. For a dual core 1 GHz processor it runs like a slug.  There's so much slow down on browsing and even looking at the main screen.  I stopped using the xperia wallpaper but even with a static picture the main menu screens still seem very slow.  The comparison with gingerbread is staggering.  With gingerbread, this phone wasn't bad, but the dated software needed upgrading. With ICS, at times the phone seems unusable. However, I can cope with slow down (with a few grumbles), but this wifi issue is really, really annoying me and ruining my Xperia go experience.

Hi,Sorry for the late reply - I thought I would share my latest results regarding this problem, as the Sony online support people in Hong Kong seemed to know about this bug and offered a temporary solution.Apparently, this is a software issue that is known by Sony, and they are working on a fix.  The problem (according to them) is that the phone's Wifi locks up when it "remembers" too many WiFi networks.  They will release a software update, but in the meantime you can "fix" the issue by only remembering ~1-3 wireless networks (i.e. the ones you use the most). The steps are as follows:- "forget" all the networks in your WiFi list apart from the few that you really want to keep.- perform a "settings reset".Then it seems to work fine.  Hopefully they'll release a fix soon (maybe with 4.1?) I thought I'd share this here as this appears to actually be the answer to my problem, just in case anyone else was having a similar problem.

  • Transfer old MacBook Pro files to new Mac mini via wifi stuck

I'm going through the setup of my new Mac mini.  The first thing it is having me do is transfer old data and applications via wifi from my MacBook Pro (running snow leopard) it is taking forever (over 24 hours now) and apparently stuck.  How do I stop and restart the transfer using Ethernet cable or FireWire to speed up the transfer process. This is a brand new mini running some version of mountain lion. Thanks!

How are you transferring the files now?
To me the easiest, most reliable, and generally fastest method is..
With both computers powered down connect them back to back with a firewire cable
Boot the old computer into Firewire Target Disk Mode by holding down the T key during boot
Boot the new computer and the old computer should appear on the desktop as a firewire drive
On the new computer launch Migration Assistant (found in /Applictions/Utilities)
Follow MA's on screen prompts to transfer the data from another disk drive (the old computer running in Firewire Target Disk mde) This last step is best performed during the initial setup of the new computer when prompted early in the initial setup phase

  • WiFi stuck after X61s running Windows 8.1 resumes following Sleep/Hibernate

    Hi All,
WiFi in my X61s running Windows 8.1 gets stuck when I take the laptop out of Sleep or Hibernate. Nothing but reboot helps recover it: Windows troubleshooter, disable/enable WiFi connection, disable/enable WiFi adapter using Fn+F5, turn off/on all wireless adapters using the switch at the front. Which particular logs/debugs/etc would help troubleshoot this issue?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Dmitriy

    Hi Hemanth,
Thanks for your reply. While testing with the setting you suggested is still underway (looking very promising so far!) do I get it right that the laptop now keeps WiFi up at all times incl when asleep? If so it's a good workaround but I'd still like to drill down to the root cause of the problem and hopefully obtain a real fix for it, so that (with the checkbox checked) WiFi is turned off upon my laptop entering standby/hibernate and resumes properly upon taking the laptop out of standby/hibernate.
Update: WiFi card make/model = Intel 4965AGN, driver = 13.3.0.137 by Microsoft dated August 15th, 2010. The following thread tells me Intel no longer support this card and in particular have never released Windows 8 drivers for it, so they're advising to use basic MS ones:
    https://communities.intel.com/thread/32614
Meanwhile here's how someone managed to fix their issues with this card:
"I've tried both this and the disable N wifi solution above but none works. But then I uninstall the driver and rescan hardware, now the wifi is running perfectly without uncheck power-off option and without rolling back to slow b/g wifi"
Will try the same when I'm at my parents next, which is where that laptop is. It'd be great if it fixed my issue too but if not I'll stick to the w/a you supplied.
    Many thanks,

  • TC Wifi stuck in low power mode?

I noticed that every time I'm working 30ft away, move to 3ft and work, then move back 30ft to continue working, the wifi seems to get stuck in low transmit/receive mode.  I know it's in low power mode because when I go to check what's up, the wifi still works at 3ft.  I have to reboot my Time Capsule to get the better range again.  This happens every time without fail.
Airport Utility found a Time Capsule 802.11n (3rd Generation)
    Version 7.5.2

    Yesterday 30 feet working
Today, 30 feet not working, shows full bars but tells me I have the wrong password when I'm 100% sure it is the right password.
Go back to 3 feet and had to join but it's working
walk to 10 feet and it's still working
go to 20 feet and show TC in range but I have to join.  It tells me again I have the wrong password.
(can't add any more pictures to this discussion so I'll just explain the rest)
I go back to 3 feet and its working again
REBOOT TC and all is well.

  • Android galaxy allows wifi without sim

Android allows the wi fi to be used on phones without sim cards.  do iphones offer the same thing and if so, how do i get into the phone?

As long as a phone is activated and usable you don't need a cellular connection in order to use Wi-Fi.

  • Iphone 4s wifi stuck / greyed out at ios 6.1.3

Hey, I just upgraded to ios 6.1.3 and my iphone wifi button greyed out also my processor started hanging a lot so i tried number of methods like software restore, freezer but nothing happened instead i also upgraded to ios 7 and i tried freezer method again which ruined my iphone's audio, now its audio is very less
    Can anyone please help.....?

What a a lot of people have been telling me is to turn Airplane Mode on and then reset settings and iPhone, and that should sort it.
I haven't done it myself, But you could give that a go
As for the audio, sorry I don't know about that.
Hope you sort it out soon, my wifi is having trouble also (silly phone)

  • I have an iPhone 4s.  I can text another android phone but I cannot attach a picture without using data.  Wifi will not allow attachments

I have an iphone 4s with ios 7.  imessage between iphones works fine.  When I try to message an android phone with an attachment (picture) it wont deliver and the party cannot send a picture to me.  Thw only way it will work with android is if I turn data on.  A simple message will work with Wifi, with no attachments
This does not seem right.  You should be able to send attachments to android party on Wifi???

MMS requires cellular data. Sending pictures through iMessage can be done either using cellular data or WiFi. You're phone is working as designed.

  • How can I enable the android one-fibger zoom gesture in Firefox?

2 OS versions ago, android changed the system wide zoom gesture to a single finger one.
double tap -> hold -> move finger up or down
This doesn't work in Android, which is still stuck on the old iOS style pinch zoom gesture.
Is there an option to fix this?
If not it should really be filed as a bug, since every other app I use on Android works the new way.
I'm used to the one finger gesture and much prefer it, and I suspect other users feel the same.

We don't support this currently. We are considering this but don't have a specific timeframe when it would be supported.

  • Problems with Wifi on iphone 4 after updating ot iOS 5.1

After I update to iOS 5.1 is started having problems with my home wifi.
After the update every thing seems to be running alright after after a day my connection was lost.
When I tried to reconnect I got the message "unable to join the network".
    I tried the following things:
    - Forget network, reconnect: This did not help
    - restart iPhone: did not help.
    - Reset network settings: did not help.
The next step I tried was to restart my router.
This solved the problem, but after 1 day I have the same issue.
When I go to work there is no problem when I get back home same thing over again.
This is going on ever since I update to iOS 5.1
Before the update I had no problems.
Does anyone have more perment solution.

I have the same issue with my iPhone4 running ios5.1. I have tried everything you mentioned above as well as updating the firmware on my router, setting my router to broadcast on 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ exclusively,  assigning my iPhone a static address as well as a multitude of other mentioned fixes. I have determined this is NOT an issue with my WiFi Network, or Router. All other wireless devices in my home do not have this issue; except for my partner's iPhone4S also running ios5.1. It's WiFi issues are identical to mine. Our other Smartphone, an  HTC running Android, has no WiFi issues whatever.
When I attempt to use WiFi on other networks with my iPhone4, I encounter the same issues: Intermittent connectivity, reporting that it is "Unable to Join Network", showing a strong WiFi signal on screen and yet having no WiFi connectivity, showing WiFi connectivity on screen and strong signal strength, and having no IP Address(etc) under WiFi Networks Settings. After spending a great deal of time online looking for solutions I have determined the following:
This is clearly an Apple Hardware or Software issue. I hope Apple eventually addresses this issue because it is extremely frustrating!

  • Problems with EA2700 and Android devices

I enjoyed EA2700 for more than 3 months so far until I decided to change my cell phone to Galaxy S3.
I have my router operating 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz simultaneously, providing perfect internet access to my two windows 7 laptops, mac mini and iPad. This is not the case when I try to hook my Galaxy S3 phone and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. This two korean devices have a real problem using the router for internet. Both the tablet and the phone connect to the router and have strong signal, but there is no ping going through nor any other internet app works. The router is set to WPA2/WPA Mixed personal sec mode and auto channel. I even try to make it open, but even then the Android devices connect but don't have an internet access. In the same time the rest of the home pcs and mac work perfectly.
I tried, for the two last days different approaches like upgrading the router firmware, installing the cloud and the smart wi-fi interface, removing the security and opening the network…. it didn't work! What I figure out so far that if I set a guess account the devices connect without problem and have internet, although I have to manually enter  the password for the guess account, which dialogue is provided through a web page you have to navigate to before attempting to use internet. I though the problem could be with the Samsung s3 and the tablet 2 7.0,  and had them several time reset to their factory settings.
I tried connecting and old WRT 120N router and it worked fine!!!! just this EA2700 is still not usable with android devices running Android 4.0 OS.
Has somebody experienced the similar problem please share the found solution, otherwise I have to change the EA2700 i guess.

you may wanna try using Wireless B/G Only for network mode on 2.4GHz. check if your devices can connect to the network successfully. there was an issue with Android devices connecting to N networks before so this might be a fix. however, it will rate limit your connection speeds to 54Mbs at best.
there's also a workaround you can try on the android devices. ensure wifi is set to enable at start up. turn off wifi and reboot the device. verify your connection status. since your devices have already connected to the network, they should reconnect to the network automatically. check if you can go online from there.

  • Joikuspot (free) and Android Devices

    Hello,
I want to get a tablet.  Thinking of Android...but  I tried to use my N8 with Joikuspot free at an electronics store with a bunch of tablets. All worked except for Android devices, Ipads and some other no name brands with proprietary OS tablets found it and it worked.  All laptops also found it.  But no Android tablets or phones in the area detected it.
One Android device foun it (Jellybean) but would not connect.
I read that Android does not support Ad Hoc connections which Joikuspot provides.
I tried some Android forums, but they either had a Bluetooth solution (too slow) or they said try the Nokia forums.
Besides Joikuspot - any other Wifi hotspot apps?  Would Joiku Spot full work - anyone have it and try it with and Android device?
    Anyone have suggestions?
    Thanks,

It does seem to be possible to make android work with ad-hoc wifi. Search for "android ad-hoc wifi" - but it does seem to carry quite a highrisk of causing problems. I could try it out on my tablet, but it is unstable enough as it is so I don't want to risk making it even worse.
I wish it was possible to install Symbian onto my android tablet, but failing that I think I will soon be jumping ship to apple - influenced somewhat by the idea of a display that will do the 808 pictures justice.

  • Posture Status for Smartphones - Android - Pending

I am trying to pass smartphones through our ISE infrastructure.  I have Windows working properly, it assigns a certificate, joins to the employee network, installs the NAC client, and requires remediation action.
When an Android phone (haven't tried iOS yet) tries to connect it receives a certificate, is profiled as Android, and then gets stuck in posture status pending.
    I have attached a screenshot.
    Thanks.

I was thinking - would reducing it to Registered Device (only registered devices would authenticate with 802.1x anyway) and SessionOS equals Android be vague enough to catch it and not allow it to pass?
    Endpoint Id
    C8:AA:21:02:16:75
    Endpoint Profile
    Android
    IP Address
    Identity Store
    Identity Group
    RegisteredDevices
    Audit Session Id
    ac1e10450000120e52056988
    Authentication Method
    dot1x
    Authentication Protocol
    EAP-TLS
This is how one android device is being profiled - I would guess that would allow it if I opened the rule up more?

  • Need to stop android syncing

    Help!
Previously plugged android phone into wife's Mac to get some charge on battery, Mistake obviously as it automatically synced her contacts. This was some months ago
Yesterday updated android software and this has subsequently overwritten my wife's contacts with mine, moved her apps all over the place and removed some altogether. What ever I did originally appears to mean that my phone is still set to sync to the mac. Is this easy to stop?
    Many thanks in advance
    James

The only sync software I have heard of, none of it looked like id did what I wanted for my Samsung phone and tablets.
But Android for me does sync contacts and I use internal microSD cards in all of them and to store there and also on my Windows PC.
Double-Twist? Kies? it really might help to include what you used.

I am unable to browse internet on my iphone 4 and ipad3 simultaneously over wifi.
Both iphone and ipad show connected over wifi but only my ipad can connect to internet. Along with ipad I have no problem in connecting laptop and my other android phone over wifi and browse but iphone won't.
I am using talktalk broadband. Please help

Does your phone receive a valid ip address from your router?
Does it work fine when connected to other wifi networks?  If so, then I'd say your router is the culprit.
