Animated GIF in MIAW not so animated

My stage has a handler that executes a shell Ping command
which unfortunately is not asynchronous, this means the stage has
to wait for a response back from the remote computer before it can
proceed and that response could take as long as 30 seconds. I
thought it would be helpful to popup an MIAW with an animated gif
to entertain my users or at least let them know the machine is
still alive. Unfortunately, the ping handler running on the stage
is preventing the MIAW GIF from animating. I would have thought the
MIAW would be immune to loss of interactivity on the stage, anyone
know an easy work around? … Unfortunately it’s not
worth a lot of effort, a message alone is probably sufficient, but
if there’s an easy fix I’d like to try it.

Thanks, I was afraid that might be the case. For now
I’ll use a static wait screen. Maybe someday I’ll
revisit the code and use some combination of NetLingo to get the
same result without stalling the machine. The application is a
mobile kiosk designed to email follow up info to tradeshow visitors
in real time from the tradeshow floor. The client’s SMTP
(outgoing mail server) requires that the laptop running the kiosk
establish a VPN connection to their data center. I’m using a
shell xtra to ping their mail server during kiosk startup to make
sure the staff at the tradeshow have set everything up correctly
and to be sure I can reach the mail server before letting the kiosk
run unattended. The kiosk also pings the mail server about every 4
hours to keep the VPN connection from expiring if traffic at the
tradeshow is light. The shell xtra I’m using is a fairly
simple one and only supports synchronous execution of
commands.

  • .gif files will not load into site

I posted a question earlier about pages not loading and the question was answered, but now my .gif files will not load. Below is the log:
    Started: 4/9/2012 2:41 PM
imageshomepage\Announce35.gif - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put Announce35.gif.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files with errors: 1
    imageshomepage\Announce35.gif
    Finished: 4/9/2012 2:41 PM
I have them loading into the images folder that is in the htdocs folder.
I stated in my previous question that I am self taught via the adobe DW tutorial. I had a catastrophic computer crash and had to reload everything. I apparently did not tell DW which file to load into before and now that is fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I was never a big fan of using DW to FTP. There are several FTP programs that you might find work better than DW. For example Filezilla, free and works pretty darn well.
    http://filezilla-project.org/
For me, being able to graphically see my local site on one half my screen and the site as it sits on the server on the other half of the screen really helps me quickly spot problems if I upload something and it doesn't display.
Anyway... DW is not the only option for loading files to your server.
    Best wishes,

  • Are GIF, BMP files not supported?

Are GIF, BMP formats not supported? When I hit the import button, GIF and BMP files are not displayed.
If I put a *.* into the File Name box, then those file types appear. If I select a BMP or GIF and attempt to import it, I get the message "no photos were found to import". I've searched the LR help files for terms GIF and BMP and found zero results. Anyone?

Supported files are the RAW formats, JPEG, TIFF, and PSD with maximum compatibility on during save. If I forgot one, someone will probably correct me. I'm pretty sure gif, bmp and png are not supported.
Which camera do you have that produces gifs and bmps?

  • Why would some animated gifs loop some not? (all do on other browsers)

Hello. I have 2 different animated gifs on the site I'm building with Weebly. One of them is a loop which works just fine. The other gif is made to just happen once. However, it will not replay when its page is refreshed or revisited (it does replay on other browsers). So I'm wondering what can be done to fix this. The page is http://www.backeze.com/about-us--contact.html

  • Animated gif selection does not appear in output menu of Premiere Pro CC?

I watched an online tutorial of how to make gif files using Premiere Pro CC. When selecting the output, an animated gif choice appeared in the output drop down menu of the Premiere Pro CC used in the tutorial. However, the output drop down menu of my Premiere Pro CC doesn't contain an animated gif selection. How do I get an animated gif selection to appear in the output drop down menu of my Premiere Pro CC?  I'd like to create gifs with my Premiere Pro CC.

    Steven,
In fact, here's a screen shot of the format selections that appear in my Premiere Pro CC.  Ya see... No Animated GIF selection appears.

  • Converted GIF Images Does Not Display In Report

I have a wmf file that contains an image. I converted the wmf file into a gif using software A. This image displays correctly in Oracle Forms and Reports (9.0.4). I take the same wmf file and use software B to convert the file into a gif. Using the same form and report, the gif image displays in Oracle Forms but doesn't display in Oracle Reports. I don't see why a gif image coverted from software A works properly but not when converted from software B. They are both gif images as a result of the conversion from the same wmf source file.
The reason I prefer software B is because it's a command line executable and the output is close to the original wmf file. When using the command line executabe from software A to convert the wmf file, the resulting gif file is 1/4 the original size and blocky when resized to the original wmf dimensions.
Is this an Oracle Reports issue/setting or the converter I'm using?

    Thanks Clare!
Yes I run IE as Administrator. please find screen shots.
Also, SQL Server is running in SQL server and windows authentication mode. and when i connect data source in BIDS with windows authentication, test shows success but with another login id ReportServerLogin it does not connect. ReportServerLogin login has

  • Save for web gif loop settings not working

Photoshop CC 2014 Mac Pro 10.8.5
When I change looping settings from "once" to "forever" when saving a gif it only loops once. I tried multiple times. In the end what got it to work was changing looping back and fourth from "once" to "forever" over and over and over until randomly the preview started looping. At that point when I saved it worked correctly.

I’m not really sure; it could be a Mac problem.
This is the Adobe statement on Lion:
Mac OS 10.7 has some exciting new features such as Autosave, Restore, Versioning, Full Screen Mode, and more multi-touch gestures. For Adobe applications to fully support these features, additional product development is required. Adobe is working to address this issue.
There is one other thing you could try. Open a photo in the Editor and then hold down the Cmd+Opt+Shift Keys and press the letter S
It’s also possible to delete the save for web preferences and then re-start the program to re-build them. This involves holding down Cmd+Opt keys and clicking Save for Web under the File menu. However this may not be possible if save for web is grayed out.
Please let us know if you get it fixed.

    Carl,
the only drawback with #WORKSPACE_IMAGES# and #APP_IMAGES# is that it doesn't get cached by the browser. So each page request will transmit the hole file again. A caching option for the "Static Files" in the Shared Components would be nice :-)
About lazy loading with the #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#. I could think about a mod_rewrite rule which translates the additional file request of the JS library into a valid request for APEX.
    Carl Backstrom
In 3.1 we emit a last modified header now for uploaded files so that should help with browser caching.
I wonder if anything's changed since then.

  • Placing smart objects from AI to PS and saving as .gif! why not?

I have created a logo for a friend in illustrator and basically want to save it as a file type that they can place into word documents etc.. So far the best i can do is place as a smart object into photoshop and then save as a jpg, and then i get a background as well as come color distortion (blacks turn to greyish tones).
Is there a way to save illustrator vector images in a way that does not include a background color and also does not distort the colors?
    thanks for helping a noob!
see attached if you want to work with my image..

You can do as Scott suggested but you might actually find another Item in the fie menu will serve you best.
File>Save for Microsoft Office is set up to optimize the png for use in Office applications best.
So you should try both and see what you like.
Even Save for Device and Web offer you the choice to optimize the png, I would choose png 24.
You should try all three ways, there may no longer be a difference between any of these three options.

  • .gif .png matte not working.

I'm creating a website for an author and the title on the top of the page is large white letters on transparency, to be on a black repeating background image. Rather than using html I created an image because she wants a specific font that isn't supported with html. I created the image, saved in .gif, and put it all in and then looked at the website and the edges were jagged; I realized I forgot the matte. I went back in and re-saved it with the matte and it worked perfectly. It looked great, the jagged edges were very noticeably gone.
Later, I had to make a small change to the image in regards to the font on just one of the letters (The capital H was a different font than the rest). The rest of the letters remained the same font. Me, being the unprofessional and mindless man I am, forgot to save the file as a photoshop file, so had to start over, but luckily it was an easy image to create. I did it exactly what I had did before, just changed the font on one letter. Saved it as .gif and put a black matte on it, and it didn't work. I tried again, and again, and again. I tried to save it normal, I tried to save it for web, I remade it, I tried using .png instead of .gif, I tried everything.
Most of the forums I found where people had the same problem said that you can't do mattes very well with .gif and this was to be expected. They said you should go in and add it in with pencil. But if that's the case, why was it working before? I did the exact same process, with the only difference being me changing the font on one letter, and it looks completely different. Before, the matte showed up in the preview and looked great on the site. Now it doesn't show up in the preview no matter what way I save it, and it doesn't work on the website.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm working with CS3.

    A few things to try.
Try saving your export settings as a preset to use during the
    batch
    process.

Also, instead of using the generic FW export options, you can
    choose
'Custom' from the drop down to set the settings. This was an
    older file
but, it gets you to the right screen.

  • Animated .gif not moving

I've been intrigued by the new animated "postcards" or cinemagraphs (for example, see http://fromme-toyou.tumblr.com/tagged/gif). I found a great tutorial about how to do this using Photoshop Extended and the animation panel. I created my own, and then followed the instructions for saving the file:
    1. "Save for Web and Devices"
    2. make sure to save as GIF, looped "forever"
When I previewed the gif (from the "save for web and devices" dialog box), it worked great.
But when I save the gif, it doesn't move. It is just one frame of the animation, as a static photo. When I click the file, I get a "Preview" that shows all the frames, but I can't ever get it to move.
Is there a step I'm missing? Or is there some operating system setting I need to change? I've never created an animated gif before, but I can see other people's animated gifs in my email. (I'm attaching my gif in case you can figure it out from that.)
OKAY...I looked at the attachment, and it moves (my dog's eyes). This is the only time it has worked. I've tried to email it, post it on Tumblr, open it in my browser, but it never worked. Now, I post it here, and--at least as I look at the attachment--it works here. How can I get it to move when I post it online or try to send it via email?
I'm running Mac OSX 10.6, Photoshop CS 5.1.
    Thank you!
    Carol

Some email clients disable animated GIFs.
Web sites like Tumblr that have image upload functions may further process your file during upload by removing its animated features. You could control this by hosting images on your own web site.
In general, animated GIF files are not ideal for emails because of their large size. GIF is an inefficient format for photorealistic animation/video.
