Animating a rectangle's roundness

Apologies if this has been addressed already, or if this is
too general in scope, but I used to be pretty adept with AS back in
the day but I haven't used flash for work since MX 2004! Trying to
get into AS 3.0 is making my head spin, which seems to be the only
option for what I'm trying to do...
(On a side note, can someone please explain to me the
reasoning behind why a new "feature" is I need to tell Flash to
import it's own command classes everytime I want it to do something
even equivalent to the old onMouseOver etc.??)
Anyways, I learn best by example, and I've been trying to see
what all is involved in making an AS that will animate the corner
rounding/overall scale of a rectangle primitive. It appears that
these functions reside in an entirely new part of AS which is all
news to me. It's like to make a rectangle I need to import classes,
and to do that I need to make a package, and when I do that it
complains that I can't nest packages. It seems lines and lines of
code are necessary now just to adjust the properties of either an
existing rectangle or one dynamically created. And yes I've been
reading the documentation, but it breezes over the new principles
of operation like packages as if I've always been expecting them
all along. I know this encompasses pretty much all the new
principles of AS 3.0, so I'm not expecting a start-to-finish answer
or example, but any help with these new methods of coding and/or
direct help with my rectangle, or even a tutorial which would be a
place to start would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Devin

  • Photoshop CC: Convert Rectangle to Rounded Rectangle?

I saw that the Rounded Rectangle properties were not available on the regular rectangle (to change corner radius). Any way to convert it?

    I have the newest Everything.
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 14.0
    Operating System: Mac OS 10.8.4

I'm looking to easily convert to rounded without drawing a rounded one in place of the square one.

  • How to draw a rectangle with rounded corners?

    Hi,
I'm trying to draw a rectangle in a custom annotation and my appearance stream looks like:
    1 1 98 98 re 0.5 w 1 j 0 0 0 RG S
The re-operator draws the rectangle an the j-operator along with the parameter 1 sets the join style to round.
It does make the corners very slightly rounded, but it's only visible when setting the zoom level 200% and beyond.
Do any of you know how to make the corners more rounded for the rectangle?

    I thought so
So Cubic Bézier curves all the way.
Could you help me with it?

  • Convert rectangle into rounded rectangle

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me how I cn convert an existing rectangle
    into a rounded rectangle please?
Also, how do you insert a rectangle/shape of a specific
size& position without having to click and drag?
I find that when I want to insert a rounded rectangle but
then want to make it bigger, clicking and dragging a corner can
make it the right size but causes the rounded corners to distort
into a more elliptical shape then circular.
    Thanks,
    Matthew.

Use the Rectangle Roundness slider in the Property inspector.

You can insert one via the Auto Shape Properties panel.

Have you tried using the Auto Shape Properties panel?

  • Why does Edge Animate convert circles and rounded corners into "classic" rectangles?

    Hello Community!
When creating animations with circles or rounded corners in it, I came across with something strange.
I published it as .oam-file for Adobe DPS and the circles and rounded corners where converted into rectangles.
    Does anybody know a solution?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hey broekt,
If you're using the Desktop Viewer ot preview your AN content, some stuff (such as rounded rectangles) isn't supported in their version of Webkit. For true rendering make sure to always test on your iPad

  • Mac CS5 Illustrator rectangle/round rectangle stroke problem...

I have an IMac with 10.6.3. and have CS5 installed. But i have encountered a problem in Illustrator.
When I draw a rectangle or round cornered rectangle I can't stroke it below 1 point. It just snaps back to 1pt.
It is fine though when drawing a circle, star etc. in the same tool.
The blue outline and handles go completely out of position if I align the stroke to inside or outside. And then if I
reduce the stroke I can BUT it kind of cuts the rectangle weirdly.
This is a BIG problem...please help someone.

    n,
You should untick Align to pixel grid in the transform palette/panel.

  • Rounded rectangle corners in FW3?

Where the heck is my rectangle tool options panel that let's
    me round rectangle edges?!?!?!
you may ask, why version 3? - it's 'cuz my company is too
cheap to upgrade. I use it decently well despite this, but I
    digress.
I thought all you had to do was double click the rectangle
tool like it states in the help:
You can round the corners of a rectangle or square as you
draw it by setting the curvature of the corners in the Rectangle
    tool Options panel.
Set this value before drawing the rectangle.
To draw a rectangle with rounded corners:
1 Double-click the Rectangle tool to open the Rectangle tool
    Options panel.
2 Enter a value in the Corner text box.
3 Hold down the mouse button and drag to draw a rectangle.
Note: You cannot round the corners of an existing rectangle.
The problem is, that the Rectangle tool options panel doesn't
open!! is this a bug? or am i just missing something really
obvious?? help!! has anyone else run into this?

oy vey. never mind - i found it. it's so obvious that i want
to cry. the problem was the inspector was already open and off
underneath something that I couldn't immediately see. what a
doofus. sorry for taking up space.

  • Rounded corners + resize rectangle

How does one stop the rounded corners from degrading while resizing a rectangle with rounded corners?

An added benifit to usng Effect>ConvertToShape>RoundedRectangle is that you can change the Corner Radius at any time using the Appearance Panel.
If for some reason you have to have the rounded rectangel as a path and not as an  "effect" just select the rectangle and Expand Appearance.   You can go back and use the Effect>ConvertToShape>RoundedRectangle again if you want then back to Expand Appearance go back and forth as often as you like.
Just remember if you want the corners to expand - resize the "Expand Appearance" object
If you want the corners to keep the same radius - resize the "Effect>ConvertToShape>RoundedRectangle" object

  • Where is the Rectangle Roundness slider?

I can't see it. I have created a Rounded Rectangle and this is its Properties panel:
    Thanks in advance.

    Groove25,
Looks like I had chosen the "Rounded Rectangle" rather than the "Rectangle" shape and the rounded rectangle's roundness can only be changed using the yellow diamond grips and not from the properties panel. But your reply was helpful too. Because I noticed clicking on that double arrow icon changes the extent of the available options in the properties panel.

  • Scaling 'rounded' rectangle

Hi there, I'm having problems working out how to scale a rounded rectangle without the corners becoming distorted.  I've attached an example below, with the smaller rectangle on the top being the original and the one below being the 're-sized' version of the same thing.  As you can see, the corners are not right.
    Thanks.

Wow just days after posting this, the 2014 Illustrator CC top feature:
Live Shapes: Rectangles and Rounded Rectangles
Rectangles now have quickly modifiable corners, including independent radius control. Corner attributes are retained if you scale and rotate your rectangle. Now Illustrator remembers your work — width, height, rotation, corner treatment — so you can return to your original shape.See how it works

  • Premiere Pro cs6 How to adjust radius of rounded rectangle

I think my title covers my question.
How do I adjust radius of rounded rectangle in Premiere Pro CS6? Trying to make a lower third and don't want the exaggerated rounded corner.  Is there a way to adjust the radius of the corner?
    Thanks

how about using the pen tool? Either place your rounded rectangle in your spot (to use as a template, guide to line up, or practice pen) and draw over with the pen tool
or, draw your rounded rectangle with the pen (no guide)
with the pen - properties - graphic type - choose 'filled bezier'
EDIT - just using the rounded rectangle tool, gives the properties- graphic type - round rectangle (ah, but then I also see a 'rounded corner rectangle')
so, change option to 'filled bezier' and either delete middle anchor point of corner and use convert anchor point tool to pull out corners
or - change option to 'filled bezier' choose pen tool, select middle anchor point, click, hold and move to your choice
or I have misunderstood your rounded rectangle to be either
    1. round rectangle
    2. rounded corner rectangle

  • Master slide and rounded corners

    Hi,
Would anyone be able to tell me if there is a way to replace master slides with different shapes, such as a rectangle with rounded corners? I'm using Captivate 7.
    Thanks in advance,
    Darrell.

This is not on a Master slide, but you can create rounded corners on the borders of your project. Go to Project > Table of Contents or Skin Editor > click the square icon underneath the Skin - that will take you to the borders. Then you can check the Show Borders > Style, click the drop down and select Rounded corners. You'd probably want to make sure you have all four edges selected.

  • I need help making rounded edge rectangular buttons

Howdy, I need to know how to make the buttons I insert appear
rectangular with rounded edges. Any help anyone can offer would be
appreciated. I have a subscription to an online tutorial, but I
don't even know how to ask it to teach me what I need to know.
Please help, It has been a long, frusterating day trying to give my
marketing director what she wants. Any guidence would be
    appreciated. -nicki

As Michael says, the easiest way of doing this is creating
    the button with
rounded corners in Photoshop or similar graphics application.
But a client of mine wanted to upload images without having
    to keep rounding
the corners, so I created an image containing a chromakey
    coloured rectangle
with rounded corners, I used the same background colour as
    the website
background, then saved the image as a transparent gif,
    applying the
    transparency to the rectangle colour.
I then used the background-image property to stack the image
    with the
transparency OVER the top of the image that I want to have
    rounded corners:
    <img src="images/transparent_bkgrnd.gif" width="260"
    height="194"
    style="background-image:url(images/pretty_picture.jpg)"
    alt="" />
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • How to create a evenly spaced grid of rectangles

Ok Im having difficulty in creating 5x5 rectangles with rounded corners, which themselves have a specific height and width and the spacing (rows and columns) inbetween are evely spaced.
    How would i acheive this???

    Thanks for the replies.
I had actually tried Steve Fairbank's method before posting this thread, however it would you would have to set the area and thw shape width seperately f.e. if i were to set the height and width and the spacing, the overall area wouldnt expand to compensate but rather stay the same, if i then increase the area it would mess up either the spacing or the width and height. Very Frustrating. a
Anyway I have achieved what i wanted using Larry G. Schneider's method.
I have one more question now at this point:
Do you know how to manipulate the spacing between the shapes so that there is even spacing in the rows and columns between the shapes?? Doing this whilst using your method i found was hit and miss and i only got it roughly right.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CS5 Rectangle Object Measurments and Strokes

Hi Guys. I'm hoping you can help me as this is driving me absolutely nuts.
    I'm running CS5.
I can't set a rectangle or rounded rectangle to have a stroke less than 1pt. When I select .25pt or .5pt it defaults back to 1pt.
I tried to set an object style with a .25pt stroke and on the rectangles it is defaulting back to 1pt again.
Similarly, with rectangles, if I set a custom width (ie - enter 6mm W) it changes to something rediculous like 5.83mm
The size boxes are not linked.
I don't have "Use preview bounds set".
    I've turned off snapping.
I've never had this issue with CS through to CS4, and to repeat, is only happening on rectangles and rounded rectangles, even those created manually with the pen tool.
Any ideas? Is this a known bug?

It is probably due to the "Align to Pixel Grid" - the newly introduced functionality in CS5. This property is ON by default for the Web document profile. If you want to turn OFF this property for a particular object then select the object, open the transform panel and unckeck "Align to Pixel Grid" and then set the stroke to .25 pt. If you need to this for all the object then you  can use another New document profile or turn OFF the setting while creating a new Web document. This is there in the Advanced section of the New document dialog.
