Animation basics

Hello,I'm working on a educational project.It's a First person game with quizes for kids.
I want to put some animations but I can't understand how can I do this.
I have a door and when the player comes close to the door I want the door to do open and close.
what I export from 3ds max  and how I put the animations into Director?
can anybody help ???
give screenshots,links,code...everything is acceptable!!thank u very much!

The animation should export from Max as long as you include keyframe or bones animations in the Max file you create, and check the relevant export options. In order to play the animation in Director, check the docs for 'keyframePlayer', 'bonesPlayer', 'motion' and related topics. A copy of the 3DPI would also be useful

  • Cell animation basics

    Hi All:
    I am completely new to Flash and to animating generally. But
    I understand some of the underlying basics. I have created and
    scanned a series of drawings on acetate creating a Christmas card
    with a chicken and an egg. I don't think I need to tween - just
    need to go from one layer to the next! I have tried 3 times now to
    import each cell into a separate layer and to create a rough
    animation using the timeline and keyframes. I have read several
    online tutorials and purchased a used Teach Yourself Flash 8
    primer.
    But I cannot get anything to work, i.e. cells don't seem to
    line up, can't see them animate using the Play Handle. None of my
    sources will explain to me exactly how to manipulate the timeline
    for my purposes nor how to deal with layers such as mine (already
    produced offline and lined up pixel to pixel in PS, etc).
    Can someone please recommend a free online tutorial which
    explains animating cells - but also starts from the beginning - do
    this, then do that?
    Thanks!

    No worries. :) And you'll understand Flash in time. Like
    anything
    else, it just takes practice. I've been unicycling for four
    or five years
    now, but I still remember learning how to ride (and falling,
    and falling,
    and falling!). Unicycles are finicky too.

    > being set to 803 x 1086 pixels ... insisted on being
    published

    Did you test this as embedded in an HTML page? If so, it may
    be that
    the HTML was coded in such a way as to resize the SWF, in the
    same way that
    HTML can be coded to resize a JPG.

    shown

    Aha. Then maybe this was simply an incorrect setting on your
    background
    image? As you discovered, that's easy enough to fix. You can
    use the
    Property inspector to adjust dimensions, and you can also use
    the Transform
    panel (or simply resize things by hand with the Free
    Transform tool).
    > 1)Is there any way of changing about 25 instances at one
    time
    > to publish to a specific size?
    If the background image doesn't change, then you only need a
    single
    instance of that image on the Stage (one keyframe in frame 1,
    and simply
    frames after that). You might be able to affect numerous
    instances at once
    if the original Library asset is sized incorrectly: changing
    its dimensions
    in the Library will effect every instance of that asset. For
    example, if
    you have a background symbol in the Library -- a graphic
    symbol, say -- that
    contains your imported image, your image might be sized to
    50%. In such a
    case, the graphic symbol displayed at full size (100%) would
    only display
    the image at half size. Makes sense, right? In that scenario,
    you could
    enter the timeline of the graphic symbol, set the image to
    100%, and then
    the symbol would show the image at 100% wherever it appears
    in a timeline
    (unless the symbol itself is resized somewhere). The
    principles of this
    symbol hierarchy are important in Flash.
    > 2) When published, the document image does not fill the
    window.
    > I can see the edge of the 600 x 811 pixel document. If I
    Modify>
    > Document the document to 600 x 811 it fills it more but
    not fully.
    What you're seeing inside Flash may not be exactly what you
    see when the
    SWF is embedded in your HTML page. Flash will try to show you
    as much of
    the SWF's content as possible, but if you resize the SWF
    window, you may
    indeed see letterbox or pillarbox rectangles -- in the same
    way that
    widescreen content has letterbox rectangles on a standard TV.
    Embed that
    SWF in an HTML file at the dimensions of your FLA document,
    and all should
    be well. Based on your notes earlier, that might be 803 x
    1086. At this
    point, you're saying 600 x 811. Whatever the FLA document's
    boundaries are,
    that should be the embedding dimensions of your HTML code.
    Anything else --
    especially a different aspect ratio -- may show edges or
    content that should
    be hidden by those edges.
    > a) How do I make a document that opens into a window the
    same
    > size as my document?
    That requires JavaScript inside the HTML document.
    Dreamweaver features
    a built-in code snippet for exactly this endeavor: Behaviors
    panel (in
    Dreamweaver) > Open Browser Window.
    > b) Since the document does not fill the window and I had
    to tweak
    > pixels, the left edge of the flash document is uneven -
    I see a pixel of
    > one alternating instance over and over again at the end
    (because it
    > crosses the edge of the frame).
    >
    > Can I get rid of this really annoying effect?
    Either keep tweaking your pixel placement or make sure to
    embed your
    content at the proper aspect ratio. You could also experiment
    with masking
    the entire movie, but that would probably be overkill.
    > 3) My background doesn't show up. ... All instance were
    supposed to

    enough?
    The JPG format doesn't support transparency. Export your
    Photoshopped
    images as PNGs instead (use PNG 24 for smooth edges).

  • The Best Tool For Multiple Animated Objects

    Hi,
    I am expirimenting with Flash Web Sites, and I would like suggestions as to a starting point for my project, and I am assuming a Flash website is where I would start.
    Basically, If I were to open up a web page, I would like to see multiple animated objects.  For example, if I were to simulate an Emergency Room, I would have an EKG displaying a heart rate, then perhaps see a breathing maching apparatus moving up and down, a Drip bag (sorry, don't know the real term), dripping into a patient's tube.  And of course, if I were to roll over an object it would animate, and if clicked on more animation or on to another page.
    I tried creating the animated objects in Fireworks, and I thought I could combine various Firworks files into one, but it didn't work (too many frames), either becasue I lack the knowlege of how to do this or simply it cannot be done that way in Fireworks.  I had a background with one animated flashing object (that was easy), but combining multiple independent objects, I could not figure it out.
    Someone suggested that I would have to use Action Scripts, which made me realize, I don't know the best way to accomplish my example above, and although I know I may be over my head, I would just like to get direction as to where I should begin.
    Should it all be in Flash in the first place?  To continue on with the example above, after a user clicks on the rollover image, a girney comes rolling in and we are giving choices on a monitor with what our next actions should be, which would take us into another page.  (this is just to give you perpective of what I am trying to accomplish).
    Should I create independent animated objects (files) in Fireworks, then somehow import them into their specified location in Flash.
    I hope this makes sense and I am hoping someone is kind enough to provide a starting point.
    Best.

    Flash is the best tool for what you want and most of it can be done once you get a handle on the basics.
    For you interactivity (rollOvers / triggering more animations with mouse) you will need some actionscript but don't get hung up on that now.
    There is a world of info out there. Google "animation basics in flash) you may have to weed through some garbage but you will find what you are looking for somewhere.

  • Photoshop CS5 save animation as jpeg - not gif?

    My content management system will only allow jpgs for this particular section of my site that I'm working in. I have PS CS5 Extended and I already created my animation (basically just a slideshow) and now I need to save it as a .jpg.
    I tried doing Save for web and devices, selecting GIF as the format and then changing it to a jpg extension. This preserves the animation and also gives it the file type that I need. However the gif image quality is awful.
    I remember doing this at point a few years ago but forgot how I did it! Another option was under export, render video I believe, but that just creates hundreds of jpgs and not just one.
    Thanks

    The JPEG format itself does not support animation, though the HTML on your site could change the src attribute of your IMG elements, for example with a script.  I have done exactly that - I have a small Javascript that rotates multiple JPEGs on my own web site (http://www.ProDigitalSoftware.com).  View source to see the simple Javascript.
    Are these large images? Are they photos or drawn graphics?
    You're not going to get good photo quality with GIF because it's an indexed format that can carry at most 256 colors, and if you're spreading those colors across multiple frames then you'll see even further degradation.

  • How to get rid of scroll bars on an edge animation in a fluid grid page

    I'm playing with a page that will contain an edge animation (basically just a panorama view sliding across the stage from right to left).  My thought was that when the page was displayed on a tablet or phone the user would just see less and less of the animation--i.e., as if the panorama was sliding across a smaller stage.  In my css I've specified overflow: hidden for the div that contains the animation, and in the animation itself I've specified overflow: hidden for the stage.   This works fine in Live view, but when I preview the page in a browser (chrome, safari, IE) I get scroll bars.  The animation also behaves as I want it to when I preview it in a browser by itself--i.e., not as a part of a fluid grid page.  I could live with a horizontal scroll bar, and there might even be an argument in its favor, but the vertical bar is a definite problem.  I've tried refining my css to overflow-y : hidden, but that doesn't have any effect either
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    I found an work around, albeit an inelegant one, so the link I posted to Nancy's reply now works.  What I found is that the edge animation produces an html document with a body style.  If I plug my overflow style there, voila, alls good.  Of course it will be overwritten if I regenerate the animation, but at least it's progress.

  • Big mystery - simple animation now not work safari and chrome

    A simple edge animation - basically a slide show with a start and stop button - which definitely worked some weeks ago with Chrome now does not work - nor with Safari.
    http://peachesincrime.com/swf/HardlyStrictlyBluegrass2012/HardlyStrictlyBluegrass2012.html
    First thought is that both of those browsers have changed their scripting behavior and "so sorry Edge users"
    But having noted that there is no fundamental difference between that and all the other animations on http://peachesincrime.com/underthehood.html I reduced the stage size from 1388 x 933 to 800x600 and it seems now to run. I have not yet ascertained what the top limit is.
    Customer wants to maintain resolution or even increase it in the future to show images in full glory on retina screen resolutions.
    Is this a problem with Edge and is there any way round this?
    thanks

    I have updated the animation with images which match the stage size precisely. Initial testing suggests that it works now with chrome but so far on one machine tested, safari seems to run the animation but at at 1/20 the speed of the other browers.
    for anyone interested in trying to figure what is causing all this I have moved the original faulty files referred to above to another folder http://peachesincrime.com/swf/HardlyStrictlyBluegrass2012-2/HardlyStrictlyBluegrass2012.ht ml

  • Slider bar that works for the iPad

    Hi guys
    Im not new to Edge however my knowledge of code is basic (Animation, basic functionality and design is my thing). My question is this, I have been able to use code so the bar in my example (LINK) is able to drag in a browser via
    using some code I found on a discussion on this forum, however my problem is that this doesn't translate onto the ipad.
    Please could I receive some direction in where to put this code wether it be on stage level or on the actual item level. The slide that managed to work on the browser
    was entered at stage level under 'compositionReady'
    Im guessing that I will need to introduce 'touchstart' 'touchend' 'touchmove' at some point in the process and again where to drop this in would be really appreciated.
    As you can see I have the relevant JS folder collected within the folder too.
    Once again thanks to anyone who can help and guide me
    Kind regards
    John

    Hi resdesign
    Thank you so much  for your guidance its been awesome. It works really well, the only small thing now is how to contain the slider as it can disappear
    now from view. I have noticed that in one of your links it does describe a containment value so the slider stays within a parameter/box.
    How would this instruction look and fit within the current code im using below
    var dragme = false;
    $(function () {
       var element = sym.$("Divider");
        element.mousedown(function() { dragme = true })
        $(document).mouseup(function() { dragme = false })
        $(document).mousemove(function(e) {
                if(dragme){
                    //Drag left side to the value of x.pageX (direction horizontal)
                    element.offset({
                    //top: e.pageY,
                    left: e.pageX
                //Or use css property values
                //element.css('left', e.pageX);
                //Drag right clip side to the value of x.pageX (direction horizontal)
                //clip values top, right, bottom, left
                var directionX = e.pageX - (clipper.offset().left);
                    clipper.css('clip','rect(927px '+directionX+'px 156px 0px)');
    thanks for any guidance or help you can give me

  • How do i get text ticker to work?

    Hi everyone, how do i get the text ticker to work on this template http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/?s=news+template a simple step-by-step would be great or a script.  I want it to scroll like on news channels and loop.  Sorry i am a NEWBIE.
    Thanks.

    I am not sure what you are asking here. The free templates contain a bunch of type layers, a few graphics and that's it. If you want the text layers to do something then you have to animate them.
    What layer do you want to animate? What are you trying to do. There is nothing in the project called text ticker. If you mean the crawling (scrolling in vertical movement and it's used in credit rolls) text at the bottom of the graphics stack then simply animate the position of a text layer, then if you want that text to loop use a loop out expression like this applied to the position property: (you will need 3 keyframes. Starting position, ending position, then a copy of the starting position keyframe)
    loopOut("cycle");
    If you are completely lost then Start Here and learn about animation basics.

  • Building for iOS: how to load other SWFs?

    I have an AS3 app that loads two different kinds of SWFs: linear animations (basically stories consisting of a streaming narration track and still images with pans and dissolves), and SWF games of various types.   I know that CS5.5 can compile to iOS apps. What's not clear to me is how this works in terms of dependent files. Do they also have to be compiled as iOS apps? How does it work when one app requests another Flash sequence? Is this possible?

    Each of the stories is an average of 1mb. Are you saying people won't mind loading 150mb for an app? Although I guess people are used to loading movies, which are considerably larger. Am I just in a "minimal download" mode from the 90's?
    "so size doesn't matter..."

  • Could nt complete your request because source and destination files are the same

    Hi, thank you for reading.
    I'm having this problem and it's driving me nuts.
    I'm actually following a tutorial that you can check out here: http://nightshifted.tumblr.com/post/2559360661/tutorial-paused-animations
    basically I'm trying to do a animated gif with canvas (I'm sorry if my english is not so great). when I try to drag the layers into the canvas (step 2 of the tutorial), I get the error: "could not complete your request because source and destination are the same".
    can anybody help me? I have both CS3 and CS5 and they the error appears in both.
    thank you in advanced

    I think they mean select the layers and frames and using the move tool, drag
    inside the document (click inside the document window and drag) to move the
    selected layers to the top half  (transparent area), not to drag the layers from
    the layers palette into the document, which would give that error.

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

    Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
    When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
    using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
    "embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
    When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
    I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

    Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.

  • Swipe Effect through mouse click

    Hi,
    I am new to animations and trying to add few in my application.
    (1)Whenever I am navigating to different page (by a click or double click of a node ), I want to have an animation -- old page moving towards left and getting removed altogether and new page getting loaded from right hand side.
    Something like a page swipe in ios/android devices . However my application is not for touch enabled devices for now.
    Is this possible though javafx 2.x . If so , could you direct me to appropriate sample/api.
    (2) Can a click of a mouse be mapped to Gesture Events. For example - I click a link/button for navigation and application takes it as a Swipe Event and hence navigates to a different page giving swipe effect ?
    Thanks

    (1) Whenever I am navigating to different page (by a click or double click of a node ), I want to have an animation -- old page moving towards left and getting removed altogether and new page getting loaded from right hand side. Yes, see:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/animations/basics.htm#CJAJJAGI (Transitions)

    http://gist.github.com/1437374 (Panel Slide Effect)
    (2) Can a click of a mouse be mapped to Gesture EventsI don't think this can be done with the public API. One way to do it would be to add a filter on your layout pane which consumes the mouse click event and generates a SwipeEvent, but SwipeEvent has no constructor - so this would not work. There is an existing Jira request to create public constructors for event classes so that this kind of thing could be done. Perhaps you could make use of private impl_ apis or com.sun classes to allow this to be done with JavaFX 2.2, but I wouldn't recommend that approach.
    Also it is probably best to place separate questions in separate posts for ease of searching etc.

  • Would the entry level macbook pro 13" MD101 be good enough for working in After Effects

    Hi guys,
    Im looking to purchase the entry level Macbook pro MD 101 for personal uses. I do quite a bit of video rendering and animation - basic stuff in after effects and sometimes Final Cut Pro.
    So I was wondering, with the specs the current 13" pro has (2.5GHz i5) would that be enough for me to run after effects and get the job done without me having to throw my macbook on the ground from frustration?
    I am currently using the OLD 15" Macbook Pro - late 2008 model (Silver design 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB DDR2 SDRAM) and its working alright for both FCP and AE.
    Would this 13" Pro give slightly better performance? Or round about the same?
    Thanks in advance!

    chocobanana wrote:
    Yep, cannot upgrade the 13" graphics.
    The graphics card doesn't help with final rendering, it does help while working on the project, i.e. preview compositions before rendering.
    The 15" is still a better purchase for final rendering as well, the quadcore processor will certainly be much faster. However, if your only concern is with rendering, the 13" is still ok.
    The graphics card can help with rendering if used with nvidia cuda
