ANN: Article on data editing with Spry/ColdFusion

It's basically a modified version of the "Products" demo that
reads data
from a database and let you update them too. It uses
ColdFusion for the
backend, but it could be easily adapted to work on any other
server-side
platform.
Hope it could help people that try to integrate Spry inside
database driven
websites and applications.

  • XML Data Set with Spry Slides - Please Help

    Hi, I'm trying to combine XML Data Set with sliding tabs.
    I've created two keys responsible for sliding the tabs:
    <a id="previous" href="#"
    onclick="sp1.showPreviousPanel();">Previous</a>
    <a id="next" href="#"
    onclick="sp1.showNextPanel();">Next</a>
    Then XML Data Set is used to populate the tabs, but only a
    single tab remains visible, and a "Next/Previous" buttons are used
    to move to the next tab. And this is where the problem arises.
    The problem is that, every time I refreash the gallery or
    load it for the first time, I have to press TWICE the "Next" button
    to move to the next image. After that, its all fine, and slides
    well. It's only the FIRST time when loaded.

  • LiveCycle 2.6.1 Data Management with The ColdFusion 8.0 DataManagement Event Gateway Issue

    Hello all,
         I've recently been developing a project that involves sending out events from ColdFusion to LiveCycle 2.6.1 using the Data Management event gateway to Flex 4.0 clients (LiveCycle and ColdFusion are on different Instances, but the same server).  To begin with, I used ColdFusion assemblers, DAO's, and models and everything worked fine locally.  After deploying this setup to a beta site, I decided that this setup would be very troublesome in terms of configuring clustered instances across multiple servers.  I then decided to convert my assemblers, DAO's, and models to Java.  The conversion went well and the flex clients see the exact same data as they did with the ColdFusion adapter.
         Once I tried to send an update through from my ColdFusion application to a Flex client, I get an error stating that:
    "Unable to find the Flex adapter for destination My_Dest in the RMI registry on localhost:1099.The Flex adapter may not be running or the destination may be incorrect."
    After seeing this error, downloaded a Java-based RMI inspector to see what was going on.  To get a good idea of what was happening when the ColdFusion adapter was being used, I switched my data-management-config file back to the CF adapter.  I noticed that the RMI entry was as follows:
    localhost:1099/cfdataserviceadapter/My_Dest
    localhost:1099/cfassembler/my_cf_instance
    Once I gathered this data as the base, I converted back to the Java adapter in my data-management-config file, restarted the servers, and ran the RMI inspector again.  Only the "localhost:1099/cfassembler/my_cf_instance" was showing.  (This one shows because I have "Enable Remote Adobe LiveCycle Data Management Access" checked in my CF instance's CF Admin -> Flex Integration).  Since I don't need this checked anymore, I unchecked it and re-ran the RMI inspector.  As it should, the "localhost:1099/cfdataserviceadapter/My_Dest" went away.  Since no destination shows up, it means that the Flex adapter isn't registering my "my_Dest" destination with RMI.  Since it isn't registered, I can't see it when I try to send a message through the CF Data Management event gateway.
    Can anyone help me out here?  I certainly may be missing something when it comes to RMI (I don't work with Java very often).  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Dustin Blomquist

    Dustin,
    Without the ColdFusion based data management destination defined on the LCDS server, the destination will not show up in the RMI registry.  It is only the CF adapter code that does this.  The 'stock' LCDS adapter does not support invoking via RMI the way the CF version does.
    I would recommend you run the LCDS MessageBrokerServlet inside the ColdFusion web application.  This will give you two things:
    1. You will not have the overhead of RMI between CF and LCDS as they will share the same VM (better performance!).
    2. You will be able to use the CF Data Management Gateway to pass messages to Java-based destinations.  The APIs the gateway uses should work fine with either CF or Java based Data Management destinations.
    The CF/LCDS integration doesn't support what you are trying to do when you run two seperate instances.

  • Build a table based on XML data set with Spry

    Hi there,
    I'm new to spry technology therefore forgive any basic question of mine.
    I'm trying to fill content in a table based on XML data set values but nothing is shown :-(
    here is my code.... any suggestion? pls tell me where I'm wrong.
    Thank you in advance

    uscite.setColumnType("km", "number");

                <tr>
                   <script type="text/javascript">
           var rows = uscite.getData();
        for (var i = 0; i < rows.length; i++)
         if (rows[i]["Mappa"].startsWith("/"))
          rowContent = "<td> si </td>";
         else

    Sure this is how it should work (except that no anchor tag shall be present for Destinazione whereas Mappa has no real value in)

  • Help: Data editing with possible external software

    Hi
    I am working on a project that requires to generate a set of testing data in over one hundred tables. There are some data in these tables. What I need is to modify the data for the new development.
    I have heard of using MS Access to link these tables and then edit directly from Access. I need to know more in details for this setup. Any other better way to do the job are welcome.
    Thanks.
    WJH

    You must install the Oracle Client choosing the components for Windows (Oracle Windows Interfaces). Configure your client to access the Oracle database and, after this, configure the Microsoft ODBC.
    In the link below you can read more about the ODBC and how to use and configure it:
    http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/ODBC_FAQ
    I advise you to use the PLSQL Developer instead of using Access for editing tables. But, if you prefer, the way of editing your tables at Oracle through Access is through the ODBC configuration.

  • Accordion with spry data on IE8

    Hi,
    I have an accordion with spry data and everything works fine on IE8 and FF, but on IE8 when i click on a accordion tab it doesnt focus on that open panel. It takes me at the very top of where my accordion begins. I notice the same thing happens to the accordion with spry data site. It's a problem for me because my page has a long accordion and our users have small laptop screens. Does anyone know how this can be fixed in IE8?
    Sorry i dont have a sample link or code, because it's on our company intranet. but i used the exact same method on the spry accordion with data page.

  • How do you set up Paged View with Spry Data Sets

    Hope someone can help. I have constructed a Spry data set using a html table and want  to use the paged view javascript to limit the amount of rows displayed on one page at a time to 10 then forcing a new page. Have found the java script file in the spry 1.6 download and attached it to the spry assets folder and have followed the instructions found at the Adobe development center   http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/pager/index.html        with no luck. Have attached  files to show what I have done. If someone could look at this and point out my error or suggest a better way I would be grateful. I am not a code warrior so simple  instructions would be so helpful. Many thanks in advance.

    Your region needs to refer to the pageview, not the dataset.  Your paged view var is already looking at/pulling in the ds.
    I would change the following code:
    <div spry:detailregion="ds1" class="DetailContainer">
         <div class="DetailColumn">{Name}</div>
        <div class="DetailColumn">{Product}</div>
        <div class="DetailColumn">{Contact}</div>
        <div class="DetailColumn">{Phone}</div>
      </div>
    to read the following:
    <div spry:region="pv1">
    <table>
    <tr spry:repeat="pv1">
    <td>{Name}</td>
    <td>{Product}</td>
    <td>{Contact}</td>
    <td>{Phone}</td>
    </tr>
    </table>

  • A working YUI Calendar With Spry Data

    Hi,
    I've seen a number of posts about linking Spry data with the YUI calendar widget.
    Well I've done that here.  http://www.pwhitehurst.f2s.com/yui%20calendar.html. through a little perserverance and reading the Yahoo calendar API
    The calendar dates are highlighted based on the event dates in the SPRY data.  I haven't added any other functionality yet as  I'm just taking it one step at a time.  But this page should give others the base code for getting started.  The key is to declare a YAHOO namespace so you can reference the calendar in your spry region postload notifications or other spry functions etc.
    Any questions please reply and I'll see if I've worked it out.  I'm away over Easter but intend to add functionaility so that when you click a date on the calendar it filters the spry data via a non destructive filter etc. I also want the calendar to move to the right month as I click events.
    Cheers
    Phil

    Thanks,
    Unfortunatley my page hasn't gone live yet, so I can't show you what I mean, but I think I've found the problem.
    I've managed to config the YUI calendar to accept dates in DD/MM/YYYY format (using some of the localisation features described on the Yahoo developers pages: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples/calendar/germany.html) so now my calendar will accept and properly shade any date passed to it in DD/MM/YYYY format (which is what my spry dataset is in) and it will also return any date selected from the calendar in DD/MM/YYYY format, as it should. So, all good on the calendar front...
    ...but spry is still operating in standard MM/DD/YYYY mode, so if I set my "start_date" and "end_date" columns as type = "date" (which I want to do for sorting purposes) it doesn't recognise any date after the 12th day of the month! (because it still thinks the DD segment is a MM segment and so has a maximum poss value of 12! doh!). So far I've got around this by defining both date columns as "strings", so the combining function you describe above (much appreciated btw :-)) passes the date string to the calendar exactly as entered, and because my calendar is set up to recognise this date string, theres no problem, and i can shade any date in the calendar (including the 13th to the 31st!)
    so the only problem i have now is being able to sort my dates. one solution seems to be to have 2 columns - one with the date in DD/MM/YYYY format which is used for display (as it is now) and another in american MM/DD/YYYY format which is used to sort, but this seems to me a bit of a waste of time, and theres always the possibility that one column will have an error in it, especially since I'm not used to working in the american format.
    sorry, a bit of a ramble there. I suppose my question is this: is there a simple step i'm missing where I can tell spry that my date columns are in a specific format? ie. dd/mm, not mm/dd?
    something like:
    var ds1 = new.Spry.Data.HTMLDataSet("myData.html", "table1", {sortOnLoad: "start_date", sortOrderOnLoad: "ascending"});
    ds1.setColumnType("start_date", "date", {format:dd/mm/yyyy});
    if not, there really should be!
    *any admins reading, mental note for the next release please...! :-)*
    I suppose i could give in and convert all my dates to the american system which would solve all the problems, but i never like being bullied by the Yanks!

  • Help with Spry menu bar editing

    I posted this discussion topic, and have received loads of viewing but no comments:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4657643#4657643
    When I looked at the discussion just now, it was saying Read Only, but I don't understand why.   Can anyone help me the original query, or why the discussion has changed to RO.
    If you need more information, or I'm posting in the wrong place, perhaps someone could let me know.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, I understand GitHub a little better now.  I didn't link to the CSS and JS files on the Adobe Labs server so I'm glad to know my website will be ok.
    My site isn't live at the moment as I've taken it down whilst working on it.  However, my question was more about tring to understand how to do something' in principle'.
    I currently have around four templates and one individual screen.  When I add/remove/edit the Spry drop down menu, I currently go to each of the four templates + the screen and make the adjustments to each one.  It works fine, but is there a more efficient way of making changes so that I only have to do it once?
    The second question is linked to the first - having made the changes to the Spry menus, when I make the site live, the majority of users see the 'old' version of the website.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it works (presumably something to do with the pages being cached??)?    I advise them to use Refresh, but not all of them are happy with this especially as they have to do it for each page.

    <img src="{image/@src}" />
    would work.

  • MDG-F 7.0 Multiple Editions with same valid from date

    It appears that we are dis-allowed to create more than two editions with same valid from date in MDG-F 7.0.
    that tells me that i should be extremely careful of creating an edition with valid from date because once created, I have to group all financial master data change requests effecitve on the same date into this edition. If I am missing one in first place and later on I find one that should be also valid from the same date after Edition is released, there is no way I can catch up by creating another edition with the same valid from date. Correct?
    Should I create Edition with replication time option 2 - approval of change request then to avoid?
    Thanks,
    LUO

    Hi Luo.
    your finding is unfortunately not correct. It is true that there might be only one open edition for a specific valid from date. Nevertheless, if you release this edition, you can create another edition using the same date.
    Best regards

  • Working with Spry Data Elements

    As I understand it, I have to format elements such as dates,
    currency, etc. myself. Can someone can tell me how to manipulate
    the data elements in Spry (JS/DOM/?). I don't (necessarily) need
    date and currency examples, just something simple to get me
    started.
    For instance, I would like to alter the way {currency} and
    {date} appear below:
    <tr spry:repeat="dsList">
    <td>{currency}</td>
    <td>{date}</td>
    </tr>
    Currently, this is pretty ugly...
    <tr spry:repeat="dsList">
    <td>2006-10-02 10:18:35.983</td>
    <td>16500000.0000</td>
    </tr>
    Any JS example will help me... for instance, the code adding
    one (+1) to the currency value would get me through this;)
    Not vital to this question, but this is a cfquery that's
    using Raymond Camden's toXML component (which rocks) to convert my
    queries to XML variables for Spry.
    many thanks...

    Nevermind... I figured it out.
    I simply added the following code in between the query object
    and the conversion to xml:
    <cfif len(myQuery.date)>
    <cfoutput query="myQuery">
    <cfset query.date=DateFormat(query.date,"mm/dd/yyyy")/>
    </cfoutput>
    </cfif>

    Maybe it'll help someone else ;)
