Another Can't Send

Would like to switch for AOL to Mail (in anticipation of going DSL since I an still on dailup). Used AOL Service Assistant. Everything seems to have transferred over fine.
I can receive mail in my two accounts, but cannot send. This is the message I get:
"Cannot send messsage using server smtp.aol.com."
I select the server alternative: smtp.aol.com.my account name. Still the same response. It happens with both accounts.
The Outgoing Port is 25. Under Advanced Peferences the Port is 993 and Use SSL is checked.
Any suggestions?

Try the following setting for the AOL SMTP server.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information for your AOL account account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field.
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
Authentication: Password
User Name: The portion of your AOL email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: The account's password - the same password used to check the account for new messages.
Select OK to save the changed settings.
Repeat the same for your other AOL email account.

  • Still another "can't send" question

I am seeing a lot of such messages. Is it something with 10.5.6?
I have tried many of the suggestions that have come up. It still grinds away and no email leaves.
I click on the exclamation triangle and get:
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “smtp.hughes.net” or try again.
"The server error encountered was: The attempt to read data from the server “mail.hughes.net” failed."
This server has been working for years until just this week. It even worked with my new iMac/Leopard 10.5.6 for the last two weeks.
Another message that pops up is:
"The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be 'mail.hughes.not' which could put your confidential information at risk."
It then shows a checkbox to "Always trust .b.hostedemail.com when connecting to 'mail.hughes.net." I am afraid to check that box, considering the above warning.
I tried googling the hostedemail.com and apparently no such site exists.
I can send by my hughes.net web account, but that is awkward and slow.
I am currently using 995 port.

I needed a very helpful Apple tech to walk me through.

  • Yet Another "Can't Send Emal" problem

I have been reading about all these Mail.app sending problems, but I haven't found a solution. But I have discovered a few detail which may hint at what's causing this (I hope).
Like others, this problem started suddenly a couple of days ago. However, at first, it was intermittant. Sometimes I could send, sometimes I couldn't. Now it is constant.
I have tried the solutions offered on that long thread on this topic, but nothing has worked so far. I have my own domain hosted by Fortune City and have a bunch of email addresses for my family (eg: [email protected], [email protected]; [email protected], [email protected], etc.). My wife and sons are all on PCs on my home network (wireless airport extreme) and they aren't having any sending problems. My daughter has an older mac running 10.3.9, but she can send mail fine. My father, who lives a few suburbs away, also uses my domain for email; he uses an iMac running 10.4.9 and his email works, too. It seems to be just my email. I set up my email address on my daughter's computer, and it won't send. But I can send email using her account. I also have a .mac account and that email I can send with no problems.
I don't usually use Entourage, but I set up my account on that and tried to send, but no go. Then I went to the advanced options and click the check box for "SMTP server requires authentication" and then selected the radio button "Use same setting as receiving mail server", and now I can send mail with my account using Entourage.
    Here is the error message:
"The server response was: 5.7.1 <[email protected]>... Relaying denied: You must check for new mail before sending mail.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings."
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure what long thread are you talking about, but messy threads where everybody and his/her mother post saying “I have the same problem”, making wrong assumptions and without properly describing their own problem or even reading what the problem described in the original post really was, are the worst place to look for a solution. I personally steer clear of such threads and completely ignore them.
    > "The server response was: 5.7.1 <[email protected]>... Relaying denied:
You must check for new mail before sending mail.
This would indicate that the outgoing server uses a form of authentication known as “POP before SMTP” or “SMTP after POP”:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POPbeforeSMTP
The way to set up that outgoing server in Mail would be setting Authentication to None in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, and either telling Mail to regularly check for new mail in Preferences > General (e.g. every 5 or 15 minutes), or manually checking for new mail before sending.
Not sure why does your .Mac address appear in the error message of what appears to be a non-.Mac outgoing server, though...

  • Another 'can't send email' problem

pop accounts. If I send text email, it goes fine.
When I add an attachment (tiff file, 900ko), on the activity screen after few seconds, the speed goes down to 0... and it keeps to 0. So no email sent.
But, during this operation, I can receive email perfectly...
    Any idea ?

    Hello,
Exact same problem here (see my post - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1220979&tstart=0). I'm using IMAP but it doesn't matter because we are still sending over SMTP regardless of what we use for incoming email.
I seriously think this is a bug.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

I have just got a new iPad and I'm wondering if you can send iMessages from one iPad to another? We are currently trying this out and can only send iMessages from an iPad to an iPhone is this correct? Thanks

You can use the Messages app to send messages to any iOS device or to a Mac running Mountain Lion. So yes you can send a message to another iPad.
Both iPads have to have Messages set up and you need to contact the other iPad using an email addresses as the "you can be reached at" email address.
Do you have it set up correctly on both iPads?

  • How can I send instructions or keystrokes to an open Adobe reader from another program?

    Hi Gurus,
In my previous question I opened the Adobe Reader as a help file.
Now consider the case that my help.pdf file is already open on page 100 but the context sensitive help of the next dialog is on page 50. What can I do if I do not want to close the Adobe Reader and reopen it again?
I suppose that the user has not closed the needed file and opened another one.
How can I force the curson jump up to the input field of the page number, and fill it with "50" and send an [enter] to it? Or how can I send a "Ctrl+F", a sought word and an [enter]?
    TIA,
    Regards

You can use interapplication communication with DDE messages.

That usually means that the recipient is in a bad wifi or cellular data signal area.

You can't.  That's not a feature of the iPhone.
There's is an app called Bump that will let you transfer contacts and photos.

  • HT5622 Why can I send a message with an attached photo to one contact on phone or email and can't to another contact. I can sent message on iPhone still I was using messages on iPad

Why can I send message on iPad messages to one contact and not send same message with same photo to another contact. I can sent message on iPhone to same contact

I would guess that the problem contact does not have iMessage turned on. The iPad can only send iMessages not SMS messages (phone text). You can send a message to this contact with your iPhone because your iPhone can send SMS text messages.
