Another Manifest victim

Oh dear - talk about arcane? I'm sure developers have got better things to do with their lives than try to work around this primitive utility.
I have a test application - with an executable jar.
In this there are 2 API jars plus the main class. It works (on NT4) testing the jar from the IDE (Forte). It works from the OS (explorer) by clicking on it. If I copy this jar to another machine (Win2K) it fails with the "cannot find main class" message. From DOS etc - I can ascertain that it is not actually the main class that is not found - but a path to a class within the embedded API jar (e.g. com/??/??/??).
Can anyone give me any pointers as to what I should be looking for? The JDK/JRE are all the same on both machines (1.3.1_03 and 1.4-rc) ?
Can it be that on the development machine - the class loader is actually looking outside the jar file to resolve the path to this class (?)
I do have a few jar applications working - but every time there is something added to the equation - more mysterious syntax and work-arounds.
Any hints or help on this would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Doesn't work.
From the command prompt (using java rather than javaw) - it gives the message that it cannot find the class that is embedded in the API jar file ( in this case - ... NoClassDefFoundError: com/compuware/uniface/UnifaceException).
There are no packages defined. Simply the "main" class + 2 API "jar" files.
Class-Path: . xxx.jar xxy.jar
Main-Class: MyMainClass
This works in Forte - works on the development machine from Explorer - doesn't work when moved to the Win2K machine. Same JDK/JRE - all Windows and "DOS" paths checked (i.e. running the same JRE).
I am sure there is a "simple" explanation (!)

  • Another Netbeans Victim

I'm running netbeans 5 with sdk 1.5 and am having what seems like a common problem running java outside of nb. Of course the code runs fine within nb.
The code has a package, my.mosclient.pkg. Within the folder /my/mosclient/pkg are the class files, MosClient. From here at the command line, if I run java MosClient I get a 'noClassDefFound error - wrong name - my/mosclient/pkg/MosClient.
    If I run java my.mosclient.pkg.MosClient I get 'noClassDef Founderror - my/mosclient/pkg/MosClient.
My classpath is set as '.;c:\java'. C\java then holds my applications.
    Any help appreciated.

Are you sure you have the right capitalization when you run from the command line? I say this because when you see the "wrong name" message from java with a Class Not Found error that is usually a hint that it found something close but not exactly the same case.
For example If i have a file named Test.java and then I compile and I run
    java test
    I get
    C:\>java test
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: test (wrong name: Test)But if totally muck it up I get something slightly different.
    C:\>java tttest
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: tttestSo I kind of wonder if this is a case issue.

  • Another sync victim

Ok, I know that having 5 macs syncing is a bit of a strain given today's system (actually, it's down to 4 macs ... two desktops and two laptops; but with an iphone and an ipod touch thrown into the mix). I've restored functionality to all except for one laptop.
I have even taken the step of creating a brand new user account, and then registering it. The result, sadly is the dreaded ".mac sync error A failure occurred while synchronizing the .Mac Sync Client" since it's a brand new user, dorking with the /Library files of this user would seem like it ought to be unnecessary (I had the same issue with my own account, which is why I created a new temporary account". It would be nice to be able to sync this mac as well as the others.
If anyone from Apple is reading, an RFE to add the ability to use the web interface to create calendars would be nice as well.

Have you tried resetting sync data? Instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
Yes, I know it's a new user account, but it might be that you have the registration of the same computer hanging around in MobileMe. In any case, it's worth a shot.
    * I just noticed that the referenced article is to overwrite MobileMe with data from the Mac. You need to overwrite data on the Mac with that from MobileMe, so make sure the arrow is pointing the OPPOSITE direction to the instructions.

I had the same problem with my 30 gig Ipod. Haven't found out what to do to remedy this problem. I'm hoping that Apple will send out a new updater to fix this problem. Currently, I sent my IPOD to best buy where I purchased it. (I bought the extended warranty)

  • Message with a large attachment will not copy to SENT folder...what can I do to correct?

After sending a message with a large attachment, I receive an error message that the message did not copy over into the SENT file. It allows me to retry, which does not correct the problem. Ultimately, I have to 'X" out of the message without knowing for sure if the message was sent.

Well that really leaves one thing.
Create an exception in your Anti virus program to exclude the Thunderbird profile folder from on access scanning.
Locate your profile folder by going to the Thunderbird help menu and opening the troubleshooting entry and clicking on the show folder button. Windows explorer will open in your profile folder.
There have been issues with slowness and scripts timing out recently caused by scanning, I am sort of hopeful this is another manifestation.
Basically it takes an Anti virus program some minutes to scan a 1Gb file and I think what is happening is Thunderbird tried to update the file, the AV starts scanning because the file has been opened and after that Thunderbird just gives up.

  • ATP check on Sales order items not due for delivery?

    All,
In our Sales order, we have a number of dummy material lines. Now, when I use the normal sales order ATP check button, SAP does nothing. However, we have a custom program that does an ATP check, and it returns a zero qty.
My question is, how do we know if a material is due for delivery, before an ATP check is done? The only suggestion I have is to look at the schedule line, and see if there is a material movement behind it.
    Any other ideas?

    Mark
This is a classic SD Professional's dilemma, though it manifests differently at different clients. Mostly customers crib about future requirements stopping current sales orders from being delivered or Scheduling agreements with future delivery dates 'stealing' stock from Sales orders.  Another manifestation is production orders usurping components from sales orders for spares and so on. ATP functionality in SAP is pulled in various directions by conflicting demands and it is difficult to satisfy everyone. Companies with chronic probelms often end up with negative ATP which is perhaps the most serious stage of the prognosis.
    Your solution lies in:
    1) Availability check control settings : Sales documents vs. deliveries  : For the delivery, don't include 'Sales Requirements'  and for the sales orders, do include 'Delivery Requirements and so on.
    2) Performing nightly rescheduling (V_V2) with Delivery priority and delivery date as key sort criteria. If the volumes are not high, you can try using manual confirmation via CO06.
Take a look at this OSS note and the ones mentioned within:

I replaced entity tags references in a build.xml such as &targets and &webtargets with corresponding

I think there is a problem with ant or xml parser when treating <!ENTITY > tags.
So, have I to install j2ee into any dirrectory that does not contain white spaces ?

A number of people have reported problems on Windows, when the App Server has been installed in C:\Program Files. This is due to the space embedded in the path.
This error may be another manifestation of this issue.
Please try reinstalling the app server (in some place like "C:\Sun\AppServer" [no spaces]) and try using asant them.
Note: even if this error is not caused by this issue, there are a number of other errors which can only be resolved by doing the re-install.

  • Link-local multicasting

I'm trying to do multicast imaging in an environment without practical access to a DHCP server.
I have a 48-port switch which I'm assured is configured as a "flat" switch.
If I connect two or more computers to this switch (without connecting the switch to an uplink), boot them to the ZENworks Imaging Preboot Environment, and run 'dhcpcd -d -t 1 eth0' to get them link-local IP addresses, they can ping one another without issues.
After having confirmed that the pings succeed, if I attempt to initiate a multicast via 'img s flat m' on one computer and 'img s flat cl' on the others, img exits almost instantly with a "network is unreachable" / "could not contact the server" message and an elapsed-time report of 00:00. This happens as soon as the command is issued, not when the clients connect or when the "start multicast" button is pressed.
If I instead attempt to initiate the multicast via the menus of the curses interface to the 'img' program, as soon as I hit Next after selecting the "master" role, img segfaults. (I haven't yet tested selecting the 'client' role, but I expect it would be much the same.) I got a similar segfault on master machine for the first try with the command-line variant, but haven't been able to reproduce it since.
This is with ZENworks 11.2.2, and a preboot environment manually updated to use a more recent version of the Linux kernel (3.8 or later, I think - I haven't checked lately), which is needed for driver support.
Is multicast imaging across a "flat" switch using link-local IP addresses expected to work?
If it is, any idea what may be going wrong (or how to figure out the same), and/or how to get this working?
If it is not, is there any means of multicast imaging without an available DHCP server which *is* expected to work?

This turns out to be another manifestation of the problem described in TID 7011873.
The workaround described in that TID appears to assume that there is an available DHCP server, and that it just isn't handing out a default-gateway address when it hands out IP addresses to its clients.
In our scenario, there is no DHCP server at all, and no gateway as far as I'm aware; this is an entirely isolated network. It might be possible to get things working by specifying a default-gateway address anyway, but I have no idea what address to specify, since in that situation there is no machine with any special role (except for the multicast master itself, which is special for a different reason); I tried specifying 0.0.0.0, as a known-unused address, and the route command quite reasonably rejected it. There might be an IP address for the "flat" switch itself, but if so I don't know what it is and don't have any apparent way of finding out.
I managed to get this working anyway, at least to the point of the clients getting multicast-session numbers. To do that, I booted the SLAMPP live-CD server environment on a spare machine connected to the "flat" switch (from a USB drive), brought up the installed DHCP server in that live-CD environment, and specified the IP address of the live-CD machine (192.168.0.1) as the default gateway on the clients using the command described in that TID.
(The SLAMPP DHCP server does not appear to have any option to specify a default gateway address, so it still has to be specified manually as far as I've been able to tell.)
This approach means we have to have two machines connected to the switch in addition to the ones actually being imaged (the DHCP-server machine and the multicast master), but at least it should mean we can get imaging done outside of the realm of our normal network.
That TID is a year and a half old, and is still listed as "Reported to Engineering". Is there any indication of possible progress towards a fix?
At the least, I'd like to see some acknowledgement of the fact that this also applies to environments with no DHCP server, rather than just to ones where the DHCP server doesn't behave as the imaging client expects.

  • Popups, focus, and J2SDK 1.4.2

    Hi,
I have a program that draws a cartoon of a physical device in a JPanel and monitors mouse position, movement and left-clicks on the cartoon. When the user clicks a particular region of the cartoon, a popup containing a JTextField is displayed and given the focus, allowing the user to change the label for that part of the cartoon.
All this works fine with every 1.4.1 SDK that I've tried. However, if I run the program under any 1.4.2 release, odd things happen. At first, things appear to work normally, but if the program displays a modal dialog like a JFileChooser or a JOptionPane, then dismisses the dialog, a JTextField in the popup that is brought up where the dialog appeared can no longer be given the focus. The problem appears to be associated with the region of the screen where the dialog appeared, not the window position since you can move the program window to a different location and the program will appear to work normally. Move it back to its original position and the "dead" area where the dialog was displayed still won't accept focus.
I've simplified the original program substantially and can reproduce it with the program listed below.

    import javax.swing.border.EtchedBorder;

    1. Start the program and allow the mouse to hover near the center of the left panel. A tooltip should appear with the position of the mouse.
    2. Click and a popup with an editor should be brought up. The JTextField should have the focus. Click somewhere else to dismiss the editor.
    3. Click the button in the right pane to display a dialog. over a region of the left panel. Dismiss the dialog.
    4. Click in the area where the dialog was displayed. If running 1.4.1, the JTextField will be focused, just as in step 2. If running 1.4.2, the popup will appear with the JTextField but will not have foucs and will not accept focus by clicking (or any other method I've been able to find.)
I've observed this problem with Linux (Redhat 9), Windows 98, Win2K, and WinXP on PIII and P4's. The problem occurs with J2SDK 1.4.1 and 1.4.2_01.
I posted this as a bug right after 1.4.2 came out, but have only received the usual automated reply from Sun. Can't find it in the bug database. Am I missing something or is this really a bug? Any workarounds?
    Other Weirdness
I've also noticed that if you run the program and let the mouse hover long enough for the tooltip to appear, then move the mouse down so that the tooltip appears to "touch" the bottom border, the tooltip will begin to flicker a lot when you move the mouse around higher in the window when running 1.4.2. Doesn't happen with any J2SDK 1.4.1 release that I've tried. Is this another manifestation of the problem described above?
Thanks in advance for all the help.

I'm wondering if you've been able to reconcile the problem. I have exactly the same situation. I've tried everything I could think of, but whenever I call popup.show() followed by a call to requestFocusInWindow,
I get a false return - meaning of course the popup (or more precisely a JList in the popup) can NOT receive the focus. Same behavior as yours. I really liked the way it worked under 1.4.1 and hate to give it up. Surely hope you've figured it out and can share with me.

  • Edit Capture Time XMP vs. EXIF

    Scope:
    - LR 1.4.1 and 2 Beta
    - Any file that is edited using Metadata:Edit Capture Time
(Note: detail info below may be helpful to those seeking to understand date/time problems/issues with LR and other tools)
    Background:
LR allows editing/offsetting of image capture time via the Metadata:Edit Capture Time menu option.
Changing the time in LR alters the following EXIF date/time metadata fields as displayed in LR:
    - Date Time Original
    - Date Time Digitized
    - Date Time
Writing the LR metadata to the image file via the Metadata:Save Metadata to File command writes the values into the images relevant EXIF and XMP date/time metadata fields.
    Challenge:
LR writes the correctly edited times into the XMP date/time metadata fields but writes incorrect times into the EXIF date/time metadata fields.
LR uses XMP date/time metadata fields for its displayed time data, not EXIF date/time metadata fields. As a consequence, the user does not know the EXIF time fields have been incorrectly changed unless they check them in a tool that displays or uses the EXIF date/time metadata fields.
    Solution:
Use a batch file based on exiftools to copy the LR edited XMP date/times into the EXIF date/time metadata fields.
    Resources:
    - Batch file LR XMP/EXIF date/time bug fixer here - LR-xmpdatetime2exif.bat: http://www.hackneys.com/photos/lr/LR-datetimexmp2exif.bat
    - Batch file arguments file (required) here LR-xmpdatetime2exif.args: http://www.hackneys.com/photos/lr/LR-datetimexmp2exif.args

    - Sample photo file here sample.jpg: http://www.hackneys.com/photos/lr/sample.jpg
    Preparation:
All batch files require an installed copy of exiftools by Phil Harvey (free) available here: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
    1. Download exiftools windows command line version and rename the file exiftools.exe.
    2. Place the exiftools.exe file in your windows directory or on your system path.
    Utilization
    1. In Lightroom, select the folder containing the photos you need to fix.
    2. In Lightroom, select all the photos you need to fix.
    3. In Lightroom, select Metadata:Save Metadata to File (this step ensures you dont lose any Lightroom specific metadata that has not been embedded in the file).
    4. Using Windows Explorer or another utility, backup your jpg files
    5. Using Windows Explorer copy the LR-xmpdatetime2exif.bat and LR-xmpdatetime2exif.args files to the folder with the jpg files you need to fix.
    6. Using Windows Explorer double click on LR-xmpdatetime2exif.bat
    7. Wait for the batch file to process.
    8. In Lightroom, ensure the photos you just fixed are still selected, if not, re-select them.
    9. In Lightroom, select Metadata:Read Metadata from File (this step ensures that Lightroom has all the revised EXIF date/time metadata loaded).

Most of the confusion relates to several primary factors:
    1. Cameras embed EXIF metadata into photo files. Adobe products, and some others, support XMP metadata, which is not part of the EXIF standard. If a tool was developed prior to XMP, such as Exifer or PSP 9, then that tool has no way to view or edit XMP metadata. If a tool only displays, edits and maintains XMP, such as LR, then the two data sets can become de-coupled for common data points, such as date/time. If a tool relies on the EXIF version of a common data point, such as RoboGEO, but the date/time was edited by a tool that only maintains XMP data, such as LR, then the EXIF dependent tool will be working with out of synch data.
    2. LR, PSE, Bridge, etc. use, either exclusively or primarily, XMP metadata, even though they may label/display it as EXIF. LR, for instance, only displays the XMP date/time values, even though they are labeled EXIF.
    3. The EXIF specification assigns time field names different than those commonly used in various tools when labeling/displaying EXIF time data fields. You will find the very same EXIF date/time field labeled a wide variety of ways in even a handful of tools.
    4. The XMP specification has a namespace area labeled EXIF. Adding to the confusion even more, the XMP-EXIF namespace has date/time field names that duplicate those of EXIF date/time fields.
As you can see, if you add these four factors together, it is no surprise there is widespread confusion related to photo file date/time in general and LRs handling of it in particular.

  • Executing Operating system commands

    Hi,
    I need to execute sql*loader from APEX(sqlldr scott/tiger CONTROL=ulcas1.ctl ). How can I implement this in APEX. In oracle forms , I can execute this by a trigger when-button-pressed in a push button - host('sqlldr scott/tiger CONTROL=ulcas1.ctl ').
    Regards
    JIJU

I took the mention of the Forms method to indicate that the requirement was another manifestation of that currently popular meme Calling calc.exe from APEX
(At least I've thought there was a lot of it about at the moment...)
@Jiju - there is no equivalent of host in ApEx. You can write your application to allow files to be uploaded to the server and parsed by your application, or written to the server file system and read as an external table. There are a lot of threads about this kind of thing in this forum: search for "file upload"...

  • Curious effect in HDR highlights

For me, I'm afraid, HDR is always a disaster area. I very seldom use it, and when I do I usually spend hours fiddling
and then lose my temper and go back to
choosing the best exposed raw, developing it carefully, and then if there are any blown bits,
replacing those from a better exposure using layers
by hand. But I thought I would try it today with CS5 fully updated.
The subject is a stained glass window inside a church. I took five raws which photoshop Merge to HDR Pro declares to be at +2.32 +1.22 0.00 -0.85 and -1.43 stops. I set the xmp sidecars to force a white balance of 5000K and +58 tint to suit the outside lighting, but otherwise left ACR to its own devices.
The darkest of these images looks like this in ACR (if I go into ACR manually to see):
    m
Clearly there are no blown highlights, and we have texture all over the woman's face.
However, after the HDR has been created, there is no HDR toning method that I can find that avoids the following appearance:
    m
The slightly greenish grey areas of the face are not blown, they have a value around 212 on photoshops info panel.
    Any idea what causes this?
The five raw files are each around 23MB. Could put them up on a web site if anyone feels like looking into this.

Well, I just went through an exercise in which I took 5 images at roughly 1 stop increments.  The image has some shaded areas and some bright sky
    in it.
I then did the whole Merge to HDR thing and tweaked the controls until I got what looked like a pretty natural image, though the breeze moved the trees enough so that ghost removal didn't work entirely.
I then took the middle (correct or best) exposure, and worked on it in Camera Raw and Photoshop to produce the best possible result.
    I see two things:
    1.  The sky in the HDR result seems bluish, when in fact there was little blue in the part of the sky that was off to the left.  Is this another manifestation of the reported highlight color shift?  Unknown.
    2.  After only a very little bit of work, I made the non-HDR image look as good, IMO, as the HDR result.  There might be things in the HDR image that one could argue are better, and there might be things in the other one that one could say are better, but from my perspective it is a wash.
Maybe this isn't the best example of Merge to HDR use, and I will look for other extremely high contrast subjects that are to experiment further.
Here are my results.  See for yourself.
Perhaps this feature is for very specialized shooting, but I have to say I'm finding it hard so far to see a whole lot of advantages to it.

  • Tiger 10.4.6.!! The speech feedback window simply wont come up!

    Hey,
All of the computer geniuses please help!
I have an ibook G4 that runs on OS X TIger 10.4.6. with 1.5 DDR SDRAM and 60 GB of harddisk.
I am quite new to the whole apple os and recently, I found something called speech on my system preferances.
The first time I tried it, it was great and i even played chess on it,
but when i restarted the computer and tried to use it again, the speed feedback window simply didnt come up.
I tried the toggling the buttons on and off. I even tried after trashing the "com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist" but that made no difference.
Please tell me what to do!

I suspect this is yet another manifestation of the Address Book problem!
    Please try the following:
    0) Open Address Book.
    1) Go through each entry shown as a "company" and ensure that there actually is a company name (make up a dummy one if necessary).
    2) Quit Address Book.
    3) Restart.
    4) Try the Speech Commands again.
Please let us know how you get on…
    HTH

  • "no manifiest section for signature file entry" when run the Jar file

I built an application by using JBuilder 8.0 and it works fine. But when I deploy it into a jar file, whenever I run it, the following exception appears:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.SecurityException: no manifiest section for signature file entry javax/security/cert/Certificate.class
    at sun.securtiy.util.SignatureFileVerifier.verifySection
Because I didn't do anything about the security when build the application. I am really confused. Can somebody help?

I had a similiar problem using NetBeans. There must be a way to view the properties of your jar from Jbuilder and set its manifest. I am very new to this myself, but all I did was edit another manifest and copied into mine. Here is my example manifest:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: J3Ed
The first line is the default line for a manifest. It is very simple and there is much more that could be added, but is not always necessary. I recommend reading the documentation :
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/Books/javaprogramming/JAR/basics/manifest.html
Also if you have an archiving utility such as powerarchiver or winzip, open your JAR and check to see that you have a MANIFEST.MF file. If you do then edit it where needed, if not create one and its relative location should be set to META-INF/MANIFEST.MF.
    Hope this helps.

  • 2.4 Vista

Is there a known problem installing plug-ins under 2.4. A user has reported this error in the Plugin Manager:
Could not add menu item for this plugin
    assertion failed!
    Anything known?
    John

I recently had a user report an error that sounds related. He was using Vista + LR2.4.  The menu items appeared in Plugin Extras but he received an error when trying to access the menu item.  It was one of those error messages that are next to useless (can't pass nil to parameter ?, or some such) and no logging information was logged to file so it seemed outside of the scope of my code.  Restarting Lightroom didn't help.  Uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin fixed the problem.
I hadn't thought anymore about it because he had accidentally installed the beta originally, then when he uninstalled then installed the final version everything worked.  So obviously the upgrade had fixed it somehow (though I couldn't see how).  Reading this it sounds like this is another manifestation of this same issue.  No idea how to reproduce it though short of trying to install our plugins on clean machines until you stumble over the issue (not a very helpful suggestion, I know).
