Another SAP won't start thread.

Hello All
I've just created a new instance TST as copy of my production system using the SAVLIB / RSTLIB method. I followed very carefully Volker's document. However the new system will not start. We are 4.6C with 4.6D EBCDIC Ext kernel on V5R3.
Help!

Hello Steve,
you should check 2 things here.
1. the job you used to view or edit IFS files. It needs to have CCSID(500). Check it with DSPJOB, option 2.
2. check the IFS file you are working on. It also need to have a given codepage (500=EBCDIC, 819=ASCII or 1208=Unicode, depending on the kernel you are using).

I get the black screen when i try to startx. i followed the wiki entry to set up X, but it doesn't work. Now, what i want to know is, how do i go back on a fresh install to an older version of X, that *doesn't* use HAL?

It happened to me too. I use LXDE and everything was fine until last X.org update (prior to today's) when the blank screen started happening after every restart. I discovered that if I edit /etc/xdg/lxsessions/LXDE/autostart file as root and close it, even without changing anything, not resaving the file, not doing anything to it, then I was able to enter to X with startx as always. Weird, isn't it?
Afortunately, today I've updated my x.org server and seems everything is fine again.

SAP won't start after recabeling sap system

I have recently recabled my sap system (from wireless to wired) and now my sap instance won't start anymore. The weird thing is that nothing major was changed. When i read the logs from the work directory it seems it cannot load dbsdbslib.dll. I have updated to the latest version of the kernel and maxdb (kernel=7.00 patch 221, maxdb=7.6.06.07) and i made very sure i got the right kernel (NT AMD64). I also checked the environment settings for the <sid>adm user. The weird part is that it seems SAP cannot connect to the database, but the databse starts just fine and r3trans -d also returns no errors. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

To answer your questions:
1. Did you create the SAP ticket, where this problem is
reported?
I didn't report it to SAP because it is just an IDES test
system. I can easily do a reinstall, but i would like to know the cause and
solution to this problem.
 
2. Do you have dbsdbslib.dll at this location? What version?

Another PSCS5 Won't Start/Scratch File/Permissions Thread

Win 7 x64, PS CS5 12.0.3. 12GB RAM, SSD for C:, HDD for D:, >900GB available on D:.
PS starts fine with only C:/ selected as scratch file location. But when I add a secondary scratch file location of D:/, I get the following errors on PS startup,
I have searched and read everything I can find about this problem but to no avail. In exploring this problem, I have set permissions for C: and D: to Full Control for my user account, administrator account, System, and authenticated users. No change in behavior. I have deleted the Preferences file, although as shown above, PS itself is deleting it. After the prefs file is deleted, whether by me or PS, PS starts fine, but with only C:/ as scratch. If I again add D:/ it again errors on next start.
I know of no problem with D:, no error messages except the one from PS. It is also used for a second Windows pagefile location and Windows TEMP/TMP files.
PS will start with D:/ selected as a scratch file location if I Run As Administrator.
I don't see any relevant error in Event Viewer, although I am incompetent and ignorant of that tool.
Any help will be appreciated.
Hold on, before hitting the Post button, I tried one more thing. I did the CTRL-ALT thing on PS startup and added D:/ as a scratch file location in that dialog. Then close PS, start it again. No problems. So it appears that PS just doesn't like to have a secondary scratch file location added from the running application by calling up the Edit/Preferences/Performance dialog.
I'll go ahead and make this post, hoping it might help someone else, and I will watch things for a while, maybe back off on some of the permissions, and report back with any findings.

No, I haven't been unable to access the scratch folder. I have been unable to successfully have Photoshop use my D: drive as the location for a secondary scratch file if it has insufficient room on C:. Going into the Edit/Preferences/Performance dialog and telling Photoshop to add the D: drive as the secondary location for a scratch file does not work. It appears to work, and a new preferences files is written, but when Photoshop opens the next time, it says it encountered a disk error and that the preferences file is invalid and then it deletes the preferences file. Then I can open Photoshop and it will make a new preferences file and works OK, but with only C: as the scratch file location, per default. If instead, I press CTRL-ALT immediately after starting Photoshop, it opens a dialog to ask me where I want scratch files. I can tell it C: and D:, it makes a preferences file with that information, and then everything is fine. I just don't know why I can't accomplish that from within Photoshop using the Edit/Preferences dialog. As I said, this behavior does not depend on file permissions.
As to what I have been through, it is pretty much what I have described, elevating file permissions to Full Control for all user categories, resulting in no change in behavior, and then trying the CTRL-ALT procedure, which solves the problem, and then lowering the permissions to where they were before, and the CTRL-ALT procedure still works. Every time. And the Edit/Preferences dialog never works (for this purpose).
Uh, oh, there is more to this. Although the CTRL-ALT procedure solved the problem specifically for setting the secondary scratch file location, I just tried setting some more preferences from within Photoshop, and got the same behavior as before, namely that the two error messages appear the next time Photoshop tries to open. So it appears to be more general, occuring whenever Photoshop creates a preferences file from the Edit/Preferences dialog. [Note: not right, further experiment results later.]
Now what?
Noel, if you believe this is due to security settings, I am willing to try whatever you recommend, but I believe you think I should solve the problem by elevating file permissions (which I have already tried) and running on an administrator account, and dealing with security issues in Windows and with procedures. But does everyone else using two drives for scratch files have to do that? I think I have something messed up somewhere but I don't know what.
Here are three scenarios:
Scenario #1:
1. Delete preferences file.
2. Open PS running as user.
3. A prefs file is created, but with 0 bytes, as observed in Windows Explorer.
4. Using Edit/Preferences/Performances, add D: as a secondary scratch drive.
5. Close PS.

7. Open PS running as user.
8. Error messages received, PS does not start. Prefs file is deleted.

7. Look in Prefs, shows C: and D: as scratch drives.
8. Close PS.
9. Time stamp of prefs file is updated.
Scenario #3:
1. Delete prefs file.
2. Start PS, Run As Administrator.
3. Using Edit/Preferences/Performances, add D: as a secondary scratch drive.
4. A prefs file is created, but with 0 bytes.
5. Close PS.
6. The prefs file now has 190 KB.
7. Start PS, Run As Administrator.

Note that I used scratch file locations in these scenarios. I do't think it has anything to do with scratch files, as it turns out. It seems to just be how the prefs file is created.

Open PS as user, opens OK. Edit/Preferences/Performance, don't change anything, hit OK, close PS.
Open PS as user, get errors.
Open PS as user, Edit/Preferences/Performance, don't hit OK, switch to Cursors dialog, no changes, hit OK, close PS.
Open PS as user, get errors.
Open PS as user, Edit/Preferences/Performance, don't change anything, Cancel, close PS.
Open PS as user, opens OK.
OK, so it doesn't have anything to do with scratch files, it just has to do with visiting the Preferences/Performance dialog. Unless the only action taken is to Cancel the dialog.

Help please!! -- Another iTunes won't work thread.

My iTunes has suddenly stopped working, here are the details:
-Windows XP Home Edition
-Norton System Works
There are some VERY strange 'symptoms':
When I run iTunes, the task manager shows it in the PROCESSES list (itunes.exe), yet not on the APPLICATIONS list.
ALSO, when I try to end the process, it doesn't end. NO error messages, no nothing. The confirmation comes up, I hit ok, and the process just stays there.
Another problem is that after I run iTunes, I can no longer launch any other application. Even things that were once running (ie firefox.exe), once closed, can not be opened. (By this, I mean they become like iTunes, and appear only in the processes list). I am forced into completely restarting the computer to use any program that is not open.
-Steps already tried-
1. Scanned for Spyware/Adware using fully updated Spybot S&D, Adaware, and SpywareBlaster.
2. Full System Scan with fully updated Norton System Works (Norton Anti Virus)
3. Disabled every part of Norton, then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
-same exact problems still arise-
Quicktime works fine, just the iTunes which causes problems, all other applications open and close fine.

Yet another 'iPhone won't sync' thread

As the title says, my iPhone won't sync selected playlists from the iTunes library. It used to work just fine and then it stopped working. It goes through the syncing routine, but never shows the "Copying 1 of 1145: Song Name" that you expect to see when syncing. It finishes without error, but when I check the phone, there is still no new music on it. Syncing 'All Songs and Playlists' does seem to work. But I need Selected Playlists. Phone is 3.0.1, itunes is 8.2.1.
What I have tried:
Restoring phone
Updated iTunes today
Force quit iTunes trick
All combinations of rebooting
any ideas?

Reset sync history. On a mac open isync then choose preferences and reset sync history. Be sure to back up your iPhone also before this happens. Are you sure that you don't have manually manage music and video checked underneath the options page when you first open iTunes? This could also possibly hinder your ability to sync over music.

I don't have the disk and i tried the shift key and it didn't do anything, i have tried like everything but it won't work and i was givin this computer with a charger and that is all nothing came with it and i don't think that it had the lion thing on it either i never got to that it just won't turn on and i have another mac that was a family members but it won't turn on either at all it won't load anything the screen stays black. so i don't really know at all what to do is there anything else? i don't want to take it anywhere because i have no money for that, and i need this computer for school. My 60gig video Ipod won't start. Yes, I've searched through other posts, the support pages etc to find a solution but to no avail.
I followed the 5 Rs (except the one that deletes all files), tried different usb ports, plugged the ipod straight into the wall, tried toggling thousands of time but no luck.
I believe the problem was cause by the battery being completely drained. I have tried recharging it using my comp, my girlfriends comp and straight into the wall. Still doesn't work.

Hello! As the subject states, it won't start, has NoOoOoOo power, cannot get it to charge (and it's been plugged in now for 2.5 days). While RIM CS said they might fix it, I need to get the information off the tab first as it's REALLY really REALLY important.
I did post in another thread, but it seems my issue is just a little more challenging that most, as I've tried ALL the "ideas" that I have come across - here and in other site forums. If only it were as easy as the pins being bent or getting another charger.....
So not only will mine NOT start up, and is COMPLETELY dead, but (and here's the fun part) the USB port has been busted since purchase. (Thought we'd manage without, but hah....)
- the battery was NOT fully depleted when it crashed as it does every second day (this was Friday)
- have a Rapid Charger, and have been using it all along
- it has been plugged in for DAYS and nothing IS happening; no lights whatsoever
NO light red, yellow, green, or otherwise that comes on when plugged in (or otherwise)
- Looks like this "stacking" that keeps coming up refers only to when plugged into computers, which I cannot do,
though I did try the 2 min interval anyhow for awhile
- I DID hold down the power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds per notes on these boards
- I DID hold down the power button for 2 whole minutes even per some suggestion
- I DID try the power button with Volume + then with both volumes and power all at once
- In fact, if anyone anywhere wrote to jump up on one foot, I tried that too!
AND the reason it matters . . . there are photos or someone who has passed away on there that I need to get off before sending for repair (or better yet replacement if there are any left anywhere) and really need to get this thing started again. Been a long time that I've been trying to get these images off, though I think that's another discussion for when it gets started hm...)

Had to laugh at the comment that the USB would be wobbly after some time had gone by. Mine was broken after first attempt to even use it!
Anyhow, good post, but did all that already. Plugged in and sit, plug and unplug, plug and try to turn it on, leave it off, etc. and then some etc.

NVRM error, now mt MBP won't start

Over the last 2 weeks, my MBP would crash (mostly during playing games). At first, I could just restart it and after a few restart it would be fine. But yesterday it crashed again after I managed to restart it (after another crash). But now it won't start up.
At start up, I would get the grey screen with Apple logo and then after 30 seconds or so, the grey screen gets distorted and generally the graphics are all messed up (and crash). I have tried booting up from Leopard CD, but it gets to a certain part and I get the Mac crash screen where it says the Mac has crashed and I need to restart.
Before it got to this stage, I have managed to restart it and after a restart, I got a noticed saying my Mac has crash and would I like to send report to Apple. So I did (3 times) and below is the error I got.

This sounds very much like this error http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 but in this doc, nothing was said about not being able to start up the MBP.
The thing is I really need to boot up one last time to get some files off there, is there anyway I could boot up one last time? As I said before it won't boot up from HDD, not from CD, I tried booting up from external HDD but that system is 10.4 so it didn't show up.
Would appreciate any help so I can get these files off before I take it into repair!

I just had a whole day of kernel panics and screen flicker (video flicker - not backlight) yesterday. I had stuck and incorrectly updated windows on the screen. Soon after that the machine crashed. A few reboots later the MacBook would freeze after a few minutes of use and then finally it would only boot into the dimmed screen of death or a stuck spinning wheel (even when booting form CD!!!). Inbetween, I managed to boot it from CD, but the machine crashed during disk check and finished the check (no errors) the third time!
I followed all instructions (5 secs power button while without battery and power) did NOT help.
I disconnected battery and power supply and let the MacBook sit for a few hours. That helped and magically the machine booted as if nothing happened.
I ran the loooong hardware test. Everything fine. I ran the disk check everything fine. I am clueless.
Today I had the same crash again, but at least everything was fine after a hard reboot. It even crashed the attached iPhone, which suddenly showed the Apple icon ?!? Hard to believe!
Remark: many of the crashes did not result in a kernel panic, but just froze the computer.

Select your OS and and whether 32 or 64 bit. I recommend the .exe version as it works very smoothly. Uninstall HD AUDIO DEVICE or whatever it is called maybe "unknown device" with ac97 device ID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0662&SUBSYS_17AA3604&REV_1001." Afterwards install AC 97 HD Audio Driver.
After install reboot and wait till computer completely starts.
Now uninstall Intel HD Graphics or your graphics device. When you get the uninstall box open, select delete the driver software for this device and then OK. When prompted to reboot select NO and Immediately start the install of the Intel GMA driver. Which installs both the Graphics Adapter and the Intel HD Audio. Reboot when finished and all HD Audio devices will be functional (hopefully). You will now have these versions installed. As shown in device manager/device properties/Driver tab
Now uninstall Realtek AC97 driver you first installed to delete annoying Red Lexmark/realtek icon in Notification area (If your computer shows it after reboot) and windows driver update will install a microsoft driver (shown below)that works without the stupid lexmark red icon. We have found the solution!! It was indeed the instal of FinalCut Pro that made this error for Aperture. So we have found another forum that said the issue is indeed Final Cut Pro http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3528
So after installing the Os X combo update it works fine now! We are so happy that these forums exist.

JavaFX Application won't start

When i start an example application e.g. LocalSearch i will get an error and the application won't start. Whatever i try, LocalSearch.jnlp or LocalSearch.html or another application from the javafx site, i see only the pretty java-gif-circle.
It looks like that there is an update in progress on the sun site and the new files are not available.
Even the 'javaws -import http://dl.javafx.com/javafx-cache.jnlp' update command failed with this exception.
What happening here?

Thats weird... it works on my notebook at home. There is the http://dl.javafx.com/javafx-rt-windows-i586__V1.2.0_b233.jar stored in the cache and when i try to update the cache with javaws -import http://dl.javafx.com/javafx-cache.jnlp it is all ok. No request to download the v1.2.1.jar.

I've found one solution.
The jnlp file http://dl.javafx.com/1.2/javafx-rt.jnlp in my cache had the version V1.2.1_b23. So this was the actual version and was not updated with the cache update. In this file there was the refenrence to the rt-windows.jar V1.2.1_b23, but this isn't jet downloadable. So i've deleted the http://dl.javafx.com/1.2/javafx-rt.jnlp from the cache and run an update again. Now the right version was downladed and i'm happy now.
But i don't know where i've got the javafx-rt.jnlp V1.2.1_b23 file. It doesn't matter anymore.

I can't run the debugger using the runner: jvm option of ojvm, hotspot, or client, and can't debug a simple standalone java class w/o an error window within the same project:

Debugger unable to connect to local processIf I try to debug using client or hotspot, the application will start, but it does not recognize any of the breakpoints at all, so the debugger never kicks in. It does on a windows xp workstation running the same version of jdeveloper. Also, I can't recompile classes and replace on the fly.
I am able to run the web application regular (w/o debug) using ojvm.
My J2EE settings are 1.4.2_06. This is what resides in c:\jdev10121\jdk\bin. That same path is in my system path. The java_home env var is set to: c:\jdev10121\jdk.
I run the JDEV.exe rather than JDEVw.exe and nothing appears in the console window.
I can't recall anything about the machine that caused this to stop working as it was working less than 1 week ago. The machine is a Windows 2000 Dell workstation. I thought the problem might be caused by adding the Oracle XML Parser to the project, but I removed that library and commented out the code.
The only way the debugger works is to do REMOTE DEBUGGING (I'm connecting to my embedded oc4j via localhost though):
1. Start the application using hotspot in debug mode. Note the port that is sent to oc4j.
2. Create another project for remote debugging, and set the tools->project properties->remote debugging on for that project. right click and select remote debug, and type in the port from the other window. Once connected, I can set breakpoints and examine code, etc.
This is really troubling as putting system.debug messages for debugging is like going back to the early days of cobol on the vax for me -- no wait, the debugger under motif in 1994 worked... well, maybe before cobol then....
Anyway, please let me know if there's a solution to this.

I just found this to be funny:

Update 7.43 to 7.6 - iTunes won't start but have iTunes.exe Task

Hi There!
I updated my Company-Computer from iTunes 7.4.3 to 7.6 and now iTunes won't start.
All it does is: It shows the waitcursor for a few seconds and I get a Task in the Taskmanager that says iTunes.exe
But it won't show the EULA where I am asked to accept Apples Terms.
I updated my Laptop too and that works fine.
I checked all the Services that where running (on both systems) and they where identical.
What else could prevent the EULA window from appering? And if I acceped the EULA would iTunes start ok?
Has anyone had the same problem and what could I do?
So far I deinstalled iTunes and everything else (AppleLike) and cleaned the registry of all iTunes and Quicktime branches. After a reboot I installed it again - so far it didn't help.
Has anyone an idea what I could try else (reinstalling windows ist out of the question since it is may workplace PC; everything else works fine.

I am going to add to the long list of outrage. I JUST purchased (like literally...9 hours ago...) an 8GB iPod Touch and after installation I ran into the EXACT same problem. Since I am a new owner this is the first time I have iTunes installed on my computer. So of course I downloaded the most recent version (as instructed). Like everyone else in this thread is saying, you try to open up the iTunes application but the GUI doesn't appear at all. Apparently "something" is running because its process is active in the Task manager but there is nothing on my screen! What's the problem here??? I've done everything short of reinstalling XP (thats actually kind of unnecessary as you shouldn't have to uninstall an entire OS just to get an application to work...update files or clean the registry--sure...uninstall then reinstall--no..). Yes, obviously this is an Apple product so there won't be many (if any) conflicts when connecting to an Apple device (like a Macbook). But seriously guys....seriously???
What is more outrageous to me, besides the fact that this is a widespread problem...is the fact that this is a CURRENT problem that has YET to be even identified or rectified by anyone from Apple. I went on this forum, thinking that this was some known occurrence that happened maybe months ago and could be fixed immediately--but I am viewing messages from this week and even TODAY!
This is absolutely unacceptable. Who needs to be contacted concerning conflict resolution with Apple hardware? Or does Apple wish to have another iPhone-esque debacle like a few months ago?
Not to be rude, but I am not the average user that knows nothing about software and/or hardware (as I'm sure alot of others are knowledgeable). I am not "that person" that doesn't plug in the computer into the outlet then wonders why its not working. I don't mean to come here with an air of anger but this is truly ridiculous...lets get the ball rolling on a fix or start drafting up those $299.99 refunds...
