Ant Trouble: Defining class file properly

Question

I'm new to the Java and Ant world and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain why my sample xml file cannot find the class file?
The XML / class file relationship works well when both files are in the same directory. I then moved the class file into a subdirectory named "Dir1" and cannot seem to get the proper reference. I'm sure it's something simple but I'm not experienced enough to be able to figure it out.
The key seems to be in the bolded text below (or so I believe) but I haven't been able to find a path that seems to work as of yet. Each time I try the code below, I get a simple class cannot be found error.
XML File:

<project name="Test" default="main">
<description>
Sample to test class file in subdirectory
</description>
<taskdef name="Hi1" classname="Ant.Sample.Dir1.Hi1"/>

I'm not sure what exactly you want to do, but I recomend to do a little bit differently:

<delete dir="./classes/"/>
<delete dir="./dist/"/>
</target>
<target name="init">
<mkdir dir="./classes/"/>
<mkdir dir="./dist/"/>
</target>
<target name="compile" depends="init">
<javac srcdir="./dir1" destdir="./classes" />
</target>
<target name="dist" depends="compile">
<jar jarfile="./dist/test.jar" basedir="./classes/" manifest="manifest.mf"/>

manifest file looks like this:
