Any hope of a new CourseBuilder?

Any hope of a new version of CourseBuilder for CS3? With
added features? Compatible with Firefox (drag and drop, timer,
slider...)?
We have hundreds of exercises based on CB? We have tailored
the interactions to our needs. We suppose we are not alone.
"Official" answer would be appreciated.

That is what they say. I posted recently on Rapid Intake's
forums since the
CS3 version they originally said they were working on never
materialized.
Their president posted back that they had not renewed their
contract with
Adobe and so Adobe had it back. Whether Adobe plans to
continue development
or just bury it remains to be seen. I guess it's wait and see
time.

My G5 PowerPC still works great, but what is the latest OS that is possible.  I just bought a new HP Printer and it is not compatible with OS 10.4.  Is there any hope?

A PPC G5 cannot run any version of OS X beyond Leopard 10.5.8.
You should be able to find a Leopard retail (black) install disk on eBay. A grey update disk is machine specific and won't work.

  • Is there any hope of apple adding a 're-link with media folder'-type function to iTunes?

Is there any hope of apple adding a 're-link with media folder'-type function to iTunes?
I have 1000s of broken links after installing the latest version of iTunes and updating some files in my media folder. The location of my itunes library has not changed, and all the files are there (I know because I've just waited several hours for the files to be updated by my ultra-slow computer) - by my logic, there should be some menu option that simply re-synchronises with the media folder, just like itunes would do with an ipod - it can't be that hard can it? The only way I can restore a link is by clicking every song (I have over 28,000) and locating the file in the folder that iTunes claims to use as its media folder - the new version 10 option of then using this location to restore all broken links doesn't work because it only looks in the specific album file, and after a couple of times this dialog box no longer even comes up, so I couldn't ask it to do this even if I wanted to. At the moment the only option I can see is to completely wipe iTunes and re-load all my music from scratch - using my tired and over-worked computer this will realistically take around 15 hours that I don't have, and my computer will melt in the process. I wish I'd never tried to 'tidy up' my iTunes library...
PLEASE Apple, how hard can it be to have a function that searches for and restores broken links by itself????? I've told you where the music is - just flipping look for it yourself instead of getting me to do it!

You don't have to re-rip, re-import or re-download all your content. You can clear the iTunes library, either by selecting all in the libary and pressing the Delete key, saying "no" when it asks if you want to remove the files themselves, and then use the Add To Library command, selecting the iTunes Media folder (or iTunes Music folder, as applicable to your situation), and that will add back all your content. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes; if it does, something may be amiss with your hard drive or the library file is corrupted (in which case just delete the library file and re-do the Add To Library command).
    Regards.

  • Any hope for syncing a "LG Dare" (Verizon)

Well as i'm sure many of you have seen the new "3G iPhone Competitor" will be released on verizon this week. any hope for syncing with iCal and or Contacts?
Please don't rip on me for this I just cannot afford a plan on ATT.

This is great... I got my music on my dare even under the "My Music" Folder on the phone using the method above (Bluetooth Exchange)....
    one problem...
theres no way to get it off after you do that.... if you try to delete songs off your phone via Bluetooth Exchange it says "Last Operation Failed Bad Request..."
and of course theres no way to delete them from the phone... that would be too simple (thanks LG)
and since I have a mac....
i cant use the verizon sync program to get them off...
so for now i only have 4 songs on my Dare... but they are on my internal memory... perhaps... eternally.
Please reply if you have any advice...
    maybe i missed something ...

  • Is there any hope for a water damaged ipad mini?

I accidentally spilled some water over my ipad mini. I think the water got into the ipad thru the earphone jack. If spent about two weeks trying to dry it out.
The excess  moisture that was inside the screen has disappeared (after head and rice and all that sort of thing) but it will not switch on.
If I connect to the power, I can hear the audible beep that happens when you plug it in. If I leave it for a while, I can randomly hear Siri saying something like 'Siri cannot operate'(not too sure - I've always been too far away) and 'please connect to Internet'
This makes me feel there is something there but, I still can not turn it on.
    Any help? Any hope?
    Noreen

    there may not be unfortunately.
The water itself doesn't damage the device, but the short circuits the water causes does the damage. Anecdotally, people have reported success drying their device out, but usually the key is to rice it and leave it until it's totally dry. And avoid any power that may cause those short circuits. Since you've turned it on and such what damage there was to do is probably already done.
Just guessing, from what you;'re saying, the wifi part and the backlight/screen light seems to be damaged even though part of the operating system works (since siri can tell you she needs the internet)
You may be to the point of hoping Apple can grant you an out of warranty replacement (they don't have to when it's user damage) or looking for a new device.

  • Any hope for a liquified macbook?

Water was spilled on my Macbook last night. Once it had a few hours to dry, I powered it on. Sadly, when I got to the main log-in screen, everything was frozen... from the mouse to the keyboard. Any hope for this Macbook?

    Hi
With any liquid damage you run the risk of corroding internal components. Depending on where the spillage was and which direction the liquid 'ran' there's the potential of 'shorting' the smaller yet crucial components. Your next problem is the cost or repair. If the the MacBook is still under warranty it won't be covered for accidental or willful damage. Additionally the price of the replacement part is at least one/third more expensive than the cost of an exchange part. Apple keep the prices down on components that fail using an exchange system. If there's damage to the component for whatever reason the part would be replaced with a completely new part.
I would pursue an insurance claim if I was you. Most standard house insurance policies will cover individual items up to a certain price.

  • TS1722 Have lost ability to open Boot Camp on start up or restart. Only Mac icon shows up. Worked perfectly for two years and now it implodes. Any hope of re-opening Boot Camp?of recapturing data in

Have lost ability to open Boot Camp on start or restart. Icon does not show up. Had been working for 2 years, then nothing. Recently had problems with Kodak Easy Share in PC partition. Any connection? Any hope of reopening Boogt Camp without losing data already there?

Can you see there is a partition?
Can you boot Windows 7 DVD?
Did you think you would never need a backup image?
So no Safe Boot, no F8, possible?
    Paragon CampTune
Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions. During testing it was available free, but now costs US$19.95. MR user Rodus reports that it damaged their OS X partiton and a reinstall was required, so heed the warning and have a backup.
    Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
    Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
    Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).
Winclone updated to support Lion Winclone updates and download
Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
    The full process would be:
    Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
    Delete old Windows partition
    Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition
An alternate Winclone based process is described in the External Guides section

  • I accidentally washed my iPod nano. Is there any hope for it?

I stuck my iPod nano in my pocket, and yes, forgot to take it out before my sister washed our clothes. Right after it got washed, I plugged it in to my computer, and it did turn on, just with a little distortion on the screen. It has been about a month now though, and the iPod won't turn on at all, even when it is plugged in. But iTunes recongizes that the iPod is plugged in.
Is there any hope for my iPod, or would it be better just to save for a new one?

I think that when you turned it on after it was washed, that was the end. If it's been a month and won't turn on, I would assume it probably won't ever. Start saving your money. Apple has refurbished models that carry the same warranty as new units and they are $50 less. Check these out:

  • I sure hope that the new imessenger doesn't look like the text messaging app, that would be a huge flop for apple. It has to look and feel like bbm or it will just suck.

I sure hope that the new imessenger doesn't look like the current text messaging app, that would be a huge flop. I think I should look and feel like the bbm to make any kind of significant impact. Am I wrong?

"iMessage in iOS 5 brings the functionality of iPhone messaging to all of your iOS devices―iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Built right into the Messages app, iMessage allows you to easily send text messages, photos, videos or contact information to a person or a group on other iOS 5 devices over Wi-Fi or 3G. iMessages are automatically pushed to all your iOS 5 devices, making it easy to maintain one conversation across your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iMessage also features delivery and read receipts, typing indication and secure end-to-end encryption."
That is from the Apple site. If all your friends have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad you cang share with your friends, with is exactly like BlackBerry Messenger (BBM only works on BBs).
And it does look just like the current message format. You can also find that at www.Apple.com

  • Is there any hope for us here?

I live in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic). I see the iPhone getting released in a lot of big countries, but I don't see Apple releasing the iPhone in other countries like mine.
I have seen iPhones activated here, but as you know they are being ilegaly activated with the hacking options available, and with every new update the hacks get frustrated.
Is there any hope for the iPhone being released in countries like mine here in the caribbean? What chances do you see for us here? Are we destined to live without the iPhone or with an hacked-outdated iPhone?

The best thing to do is keep watching for announcements from Apple on when the iPhone will be coming to the Dominican Republic, since this is a user to user forum no one would be able to give you an answer.

  • Is there any hope of older Canon CRW RAW format being supported?

I have many RAW pictures taken on a Canon Powershot G1 that uses the older CRW format. These import, but do not render in Aperture. Is there any hope that this format will ever be supported?
(As an aside, these have never rendered in iPhoto either).
    Brad

    <snip>
I wish that the raw support in the OS were user upgradable so that I could program my own G1 plug-in or get some open source support. Of course, opening up the interpretation of raw formats to third parties might introduce a thorny set of problems.
    </snip>
Chris -- I thought the same thing, and had thought about posting it, but didn't. You are exactly right -- RAW converters ought to be plugin implementations of an open, published plugin API. Then it wouldn't be a game of blind wait-and-see, either for a camera to be supported, or for quality problems in a supported camera format to be fixed. Someone else could program alternatives, until Apple chose to release their own plugin versions.
I guess its worth adding that as a software programmer, I'm a little perplexed at how any major software application from a significant corporation with obvious functionally same, but repetitious variants of componentry (such as supporting many different RAW formats) is designed without pluggability. Of course, it probably is pluggable -- the API just hasn't been opened up, which could be for various reasons: either to make Apple the sole source for upgrades in functionality, or because the API is still in a state of flux (publishing an API prior to API stability is bad news).
At any rate, I hope an SDK/API for Aperture eventually emerges.

  • Any way to create new albums

Is there any way to create new photo albums and move pictures in to them??

If you are on a mac, you can create new albums in iphoto.
Move the photos you want into the new albums and then sync them to the iphone.
If you are on a pc, you can create a new folder on your computer then create sub folders.
Add photos you want to the sub folders.
Now sync the main folder to the iphone and the sub folders will show up as new albums on the iphone.
There is not a way to create albums or move photos on the iphone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Palm m515 220-volt by mistake Any Hope?

I was in The Netherlands and plugged my Palm m515 cradle (with the Palm in it) into the wall outlet using an adapter that did not convert the current. The light on my Palm went on like it was being charged then went off. The Palm worked for a bit, then said low battery, then went dead. The charging light does not illuminate when the Palm is in the cradle. I also tried a different charger, also with no response.
Is there any hope for the Palm, or is it dead and gone.
    Thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm m515

(This thread was kinda old in the first place, but who cares?) If it won't charge or anything, then either your battery or charging circuit is fried. If you don't want to upgrade, then try getting a new battery installed and see if it works after that. If it doesn't, then the charging circuitry is fried and the device is now bricked.
A good repair place is http://www.usedpdaparts.com . They should have the battery you need, and if you send it in to them for $15, they can diagnose the problem. If it's the battery, then they only charge you $15 + the battery. If the charging circuit is dead, you can either tell them to send it back and you're only out $15, or you can have them replace the motherboard (If the charging circuitry is on the mobo, anyway), which can get quite expensive.

  • I did allllll that is listed below, but when I get to sync iPad, it won't sync, what do I do? Preparation Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab

THis is what I did, but when I get to sync, it won't sync.....what do I doLynnLynn
    Preparation
Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
If this device contains contacts or calendar items that are not already on the computer you are using, and that you wish to recover, then make sure you have at least one contact & one event in the applications that will sync with the device (e.g. Windows Address Book or Outlook under Windows, iCal & Address Book on a Mac).Dummy entries will do, but there must be at least one if the data is to be retrieved from the device in step 7 below.
    Transfer purchases
You can transfer your iTunes Store purchases into a new library, after connecting the device, with the menu itemFile > Transfer Purchases from <Device>. You should be prompted to authorize the computer to your iTunes account if you have not already done so. If your device holds content from more than one account you will need to authorize each one.
See also: HT1848 - iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer.
    Back up (iOS only)
If this is an iOS device you should now right-click on it (control-click on a Mac) in the left-hand column of the iTunes window and click Back Up to make a backup of the current settings and application data on the device.
    Recover other media
iTunes only permits the transfer of iTunes Store purchases. If your device contains other media that you've ripped from CD or downloaded from other online stores you can either go back to the original sources or use third party software to extract your data from your device. There is a list of some of the software available below.
    Recover other purchases
Your device may not have held all your iTunes Store purchases. You can recover qualifying purchases from your account by visiting the home page of the iTunes Store and clicking on the Purchased link in the Quick Linkssection in the right-hand column.
See also: HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Restore (iOS only)
Having backed up your device, and rescued all the media from it that you can, you should now restore the device from the backup that you took earlier to ensure that the device is properly associated with this new library. Right-click on it (control-click on a Mac) in the left-hand column of the iTunes window and click Restore from Backup...
    Sync
Set up your preferences for syncing Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, Info etc. then click Sync. For a device that holds calendar or contact information you should be prompted to restore or merge. Click merge to copy this information into your computer. Your device is now properly associated with your new library and you shouldn't have lost any data.
    Backup your library
For the future you should backup your library to a separate hard drive or network share as restoring a backup is much easier than the process above. The user tip Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy gives a suggested way of doing this effectively for Windows users. Mac owners can make use of Time Machine, or useCarbon Copy Cloner which does a similar job to SyncToy.

  • I dropped my ipod 4 into the toilet. I tried turning it on twice, stupidly. Then put it in rice. Is there any hope for my ipod? and if not is there a way to get all 1500 of my photos? Pleaaase help!!!

Hello i dropped my ipod in the toilet (clean water). Once i took it out of the toilet i pressed the home button and within a second it shut off! :( I quickly dried it with a towel and accidently pressed the top button!  D: and put it immediatly into a bag of rice. 3-4 hours passes and i tried to turn it on nothing happened.  I honestly tjougjt it would be dry...stupidly! and now its on the rice and has been in there for an hour since the last time i triwd turnong it on. Is there any hope that my ipod will be okay? and if not could it be repaired? How much is it to repair? One more question what will happen to my photos, is there a way i could atleast get my photos?!? Please please please help!!!!!! please!!!

Hey Posada143, You can still try the rice thing, but do not expect much, as roaminggnome has stated. The rice only works if you do it ASAP and leave the iPod off-- do not attempt use, turn on or charge until it is completely dried out. This is probably academic at this point but remember this for the next time: The drying can take 10 days. You put the uncooked rice and iPod in a sealed bag, change the rice every couple of days. This creates a low humidity environment and draws the moisture out of the iPod, but it takes time. Turn your iPod on to earlier, and you run the risk of shorting out, damaging the components inside. Even if done correctly it can spotty. If you do get the iPod to work (and this may require Resetting, Restoring or attempting to place it in DFU recover mode) the first thing you do is make backups, because you never know how long it will continue to work. As for your pictures, if you can't get your iPod to work, you can try data retrieval companies, however; there is no guaranty it will work and it tends to be very expensive. In the future get in the habit of as making backups, because you just don't know. And invest in and use a water tight case. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.
