Any way to sample segment length longer than loop iterations w/o shift registers?

Hi all,
My loop iterates approx every 0.06s and now i've been asked to add to the program a function which will sample the most recent 3s of data and return the max/min value for two of the signals. I can think of a programmatically clumsy way to do this with shift registers- take the max/min for each iteration, save-repeat-compare until you have enough iterations to fill 3s of time. But I can't help but think there has to be a cleaner(better?) way to do this.

Try looking into a circular buffer.

Once you've determined how often you're putting entries into the buffer, you'll know exactly how big of an array to grab and do the Min/Max on.
Another option is to use a circular array.

I would set this up to function a little like a Functional Global or an Action Engine. The subVI would then be used in your DAQ loop to "stack" new data. And then called in another loop or part of your code to be read every three seconds.

OL 5.6 mcelog - warning: record length longer than expected

OS: Oracle Linux 5.6 x86_64 UEK 2.6.32-100 under Virtualbox.
Problem: root mail account filling up with cron messages:
/etc/cron.hourly/mcelog.cron:
mcelog: warning: record length longer than expected. Consider update.
Apparently this issue is still present in OL 5.6 as it was in OL 5.5:
mcelog-error in mail from hourly cron job using Unbreakable Kernel
The following may not be the correct or best way to fix the problem, but it works for me:
rpm -ivh http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL5/6/base/x86_64/mcelog-0.9pre-1.30.el5.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/
tar zxvf mcelog-0.9pre.tar.gz
cd mcelog-0.9pre

CACHE is the number of values Oracle stores in memory. So the first call to NEXTVAL Oracle grabs x numbers; subsequent calls to NEXTVAL are served from memory until they're all gone and them another bunch is grabbed. The attached sql*plus output demonstrates this behaviour.
Note that normally unused numbers in the cache are returned to the data dictionary but in exceptional circumstances (DB crash) they may be lost.

You will not get that message if you specify capacity utilization. Specify 100 there if that capacity utilization rate is 100%

Stolen iPhone 4S...any way to track it? other than using the Find My Iphone app

Hi. So yesterday, my iPhone 4S got stolen while I was in PE class.
Immediately after I realized that it was gone, I called my dad and he cancelled the service for me (Verizon) so that the person who stole it would not be able to use it.
I've been checking my phone's status on the Find My iPhone app regularly, but it keeps saying that it's offline.
So I was wondering, are there any other apps, websites, ANYTHING that I can use to find out where my phone is or turn it on? (so i can track it..)
also, i didnt have iCloud on that phone.
(as in i didnt turn it on on the phone itself)
is there a way to get all my photos that i had on my old phone back?
for example, if i get a new iphone, would i still be able to transfer the photos that were on my stolen iphone onto my new phone? (without iCloud....just using the same apple id user and pass)

Just so you don't hold on to that sinking feeling for not taking out every possible precaution aside from just leaving your phone at home and not using it... after having your phone stolen or .. lost:
I paid the insurance to cover loss or damage for two year... (really dumb of me since the deductible is $200. USD: more than I can buy the exact phone online and more than I could have sold mine if I had sold it online; (iphone 4 -32g). So don't kick yourself for not having insurance if you didn't.
I had all apps turned on: PhotoStream (which would have had to be active on your phone in order to retrieve photos to your pc or your mac now that it is lost). However, it is only as good as the last internet connection you were on and only if your were on that connection long enough for the photos to upload to photo stream. I was able to cover photos from Beijing and not the remaining 3/4 of my trip's photos.
Any photo app you may have been using most likely has an online access. Did you download a photo app? Start there. Do you have an itunes account? You can see what apps you have downloaded from there. If you use a mac you can see the photos in photo stream, (a sunflower icon).
Even if you had registered and jumped through all the hoops keeping app and updates up to par and a security passcode in place on the phone itself, your i phone tracking is not going to work at all unless the user is able to connect to the internet. This is not going to happen unless they can access the internet by having your passcode. So this tracking system, insurance and protection code is in most all cases a false since of security. It doesn't help you 95% of the time... i am guessing.
The except is possible I know.   I found two iphones one time and saw the owners request to call them that was sent from the tracking system. I called and returned their phones.   The people who have my phone have most likely dismantled it and are using the parts to recreate replications.... i lost it in China, lol.   where I saw massive fake reproduction within buildings that consume 7-15 floors and about 8 city blocks. So, it isn't always about your information: in this case they wanted the hardware. Which brings up the next point.
In the iphone tracking portion of icloud.com there is an option to erase the phone. I am not sure if this makes it unusable for the new owner of default or if it just clears your crap so they can actually use the phone.   I've left my stuff on the phone thinking it is most likely already in pieces. (a kinda Frankenstein-ish feeling when I think about it).   If you erase you phone via the icloud it seems you are no longer able to track it. it cuts all of your ties and abilities to do anything... if you could do something. ... hmmm.
So, do not bother with phone carrier insurance on phones: better to make sure it is covered in a home renter's or owner's policy. You have to specifically ask this of your agent or it is not a part of your coverage. This will cost you less than the usual cell phone insurance, shouldn't be more than $5. per month. (i paid $10!! .... should be a class action going on somewhere around that in itself).   Phone carrier insurance is a scam from A to Z these days... don't fall for it like I did. Yes, it was once a useful tool. Just make sure your home owner/renters ins deductible is not the same value as the phone.
So, do not fret that you did not have this "service" activated. Do however, check to see if you can download Photo Stream to any computer and access your last uploaded pictures from the phone. This application was most likely on your phone. Although you would have had to tie it to an account on the phone in order to tap into photo in a cloud of sorts.
Hope this helps if nothing more but to ease the pain.

I was just wondering if there is anyway to make the ringtone louder than the alerts on the Iphone 5? I find that I often can't hear the ringtone because the volume is down low for the alerts. I don't need my e-mails and texts making loud sounds but the ringtone appears to be really quiet. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I find the only way is to change the notifications to something quiet and choose a louder tone for ringtone.

Any way to manage text messages other than individually on the phone?

In preparation for switching to a replacement phone, I'd like to go thru my older text messages and dump/delete the ones I no longer need. The only way I have been doing it so far is to go into each thread and manually delete each un-needed message. I have done a few text threads on the phone and it's very time consuming that way. If I could just delete the whole text thread, it would be easy & quicker, but there are some text messages in each thread that I need to hang onto.
Is there any sort of tool or utility that I can sort thru texts when plugged into my PC, and mark which to delete and which to keep?
As I said, it can be done on the phone, but it's very time intensive to go thru each message thread. I have to delete the un-needed messages one at a time.

Is there any way to 'recover' RAM usage (other than restarting)?

Hi everyone,
I just upgraded my White Macbook 4,1 to 4GB of RAM and when I first boot the system, Activity Monitor shows that over 3GB is free.
After several hours of usage (Mail, Safari 4 Beta, iTunes, iCal, iPhoto, Time Machine, Address Book, and yes...Activity Monitor!) it shows just over 2GB free.
Now the part that puzzles me is that even after quitting all these applications, the RAM usage does recover somewhat, but never reaches it's original >3GB of availability.
A reboot certainly does the job. But is there any other way that Leopard can recover this memory? Is this normal? If I simply leave the system idle for some time without any open applications will Leopard eventually reclaim the lost memory?

There's no need for any "ram" recovery. It's all handled by the memory manager. You must be coming from the world of XP. See the following:

The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.

Any way to get better error info than connection doc detail?

I just switched my website to a new host. I set up all the same emails that I had set up on my old host, which had all worked just fine - it's 20 email accounts on one domain, all with different passwords.
Mail is choking for some reason, and we can't figure out why. It is able to check the mail successfully if I check it individually by control-clicking on the account, and it can check the mail for a couple of the accounts at a time, but it isn't able to check all the accounts successfully anymore. The tech support people thought it might be DNS related, so we've fixed all that but it's not helping.
They couldn't help me any further because the information from Connection Doctor detail didn't clarify what was wrong. There was no error beyond the error of not being able to connect.
SO.... using terminal or something more complicated, is there a way to find any information about exactly what the problem is that Mail is having?
I'm on Snow leopard.

Please clarify -- you get the error in Connection Doctor on the Incoming server, but despite that you can actually download some messages? Is there also an error regarding the SMTP?
Mail is picky about the form of Username, and you must know whether the server requires the form of Username as portion of the email address in front of the @, or the entire email address enter as Username.
More info, please, including whether the accounts are set up as IMAP or POP?

I know that minimum requirement for Adobe Interactive forms is that reader version should be min. 7.0.9
Our current version is 6.0.2, but due to some issues, we can't upgrade Adobe version to 7.0.9. Still we want to use Interactive forms.
By any means, is it possible to achieve?

Edit: Another [info |http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/enterprise/partners/pdfs/solution_in_detail_interactive_forms.pdf] I found, check page 6 footer, this may be outdated but it too says that Adobe Reader version 6.0.2 is supported for Interactive Forms.
