Any way to search in a Word document?  How to?  Any freebies?

OK, I've e-mailed myself a Word document. I can see it beautifully formatted as an attachment on the IPT. But I cannot search through it for a particular term.
I've transferred the document over using Stanza. No formatting--and while S has search, it highlights each example and there's no way of moving from one found item to the next. Not useful.
So, is there any program (built-in or free add-on) that permits searching (in the usual fashion) through a Word document?
I'll take my answer off the air. (Ha! Ha!) Thanks!

What do you use to view Word, PDF docs on your iPhone, IPT? I like the formatted appearance as an e-mail attachment, but maybe there are other ways to seeing that.
A search feature is really needed. If I want to find a certain date or assignment in my course syllabus I have to wade through it manually, page by page-- or rather screen by screen which is even less. It'd be wonderful to be able to search for a particular word.
I wonder if there's any app that does that...

My cursor has frozen on a word document - how can I unfreeze it without closing or force quitting Word? I am a writer and have multiple documents going at any one time - I think this may be partly the cause for the freeze.  I would rather not force quit because there are too many documents that may have been added to that weren't saved. Im not so keen on the auto recovery process  Please help!!  Aussie  OSX 10.8.5  2.2 GHz   Intel Core i7 Memory  4GB 1333 MHz DDR3.

If you click outside a Word document, is the cursor movement normal? And if you select Force Quit does the tag next to Word say "Not Responding"?
I'm afraid that the only way to get out of your predicament is to Force Quit Word. If you had auto-save on, you may or may not be able to recover some of your documents. I sometimes have up to 12 Word documents or so loaded at one time, so your problem shouldn't be put down to you having multiple documents open.
Sorry that I couldn't really help - I just don't see any way of getting out of your predicament. You MAY want to try pressing the command and period keys at the same time, but I really don't think that will stop anything.

hi i can't seem to copy and paste pdf files from preview to a microsoft word document. it always comes up with nonsense characters in the word document. how do i fix this? thanks in advance

    Hi,
The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
So, changing one line ought to do it:
close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
      set doc_count to count documents
      repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
      end repeat
    end tell
    Hope this helps.

  • Help... How to make a search in ms word documents...

Hello, im new to portal and I would like to know how to create a text search in some ms word documents. The documentation of oracle context is great, but the integration to portal is very poor.
I have created a content area an it displays the items, but where to start to make the search in those documents?.
    thanks.
    Mario Bellido.

if you don't use oracle default search buttons, then you may code your own search buttons, inside, you may ,
e.g., user might want to enter height and age fields(Assume the table columns are HEIGHT and AGE),
    then use,
IF :heightitem is not null then
    w_str := ' AND HEIGHT ='||:heightitem;
    END IF;
IF :AGEITEM IS NOT NULL THEN
    w_str := w_str||' AND AGE='||:ageitem;
    END IF;
then you set_block_property('..',default_where,w_str); then execute_query. In order to avoid giving user blank form fields when no records found, which oracle did this badly, then you may use SELECT COUNT(*) into cnt FROM ... WHERE ...w_str to detect the cnt, if cnt > 0 then execute_query, if not, then shoot no record data found message out.

  • Mac "Contacts" to Word document -- how to?

I'd like to be able to share a specific contacts list with member of a committee.  One has asked to receive the contacts as a Word document.
Is there a way to change my Contacts list into a Word document?

As best I can experiment, the only export option is VCard format ( .vcf ) - this can be one contact, or a selection of multiple contacts or a group you create as one VCard.
If you are after a mere LIST of names and email addresses, it gets complicated. Word CAN open a .vcf file, but it has bunches of erroneous RAW formatting text in it, which you could clean up in Word pre-send to your recipient - OR - let them do the dirty work (uncool, I think)
I use Microsoft Entourage Mail Client with all my contacts built in. All I would need do to accomplish your task is
select all the ones I wanted
    copy
    switch to Word or TextEdit
    paste
the result is a comma - delimited list of Name<[email protected]>
So, if you cannot convince your recipient to accept a VCard (list of all in one) or decipher it, you are gonna need to clean it up beforehand in Word or TextEdit. Fortunately, all the pertinent stuff is at the very bottom of a really long document.
So much for ease of use

  • CS3 - Place Word document: How can I select the current preset?

    Hi
In my Plugin I like to place a word document into a text frame. To do this I want select a defined preset before.
    How can I do that?
How can I select the current preset for the placement (import)?
    Thanks for the support
    Hans

    Hi,
I had posted a similar query few days back to place excel file in text frame. And I found out that, it is not possible to specify formatting option for any of microsoft document when using Indesign SDK.
But we can do this by running script.
If you are able to specify the formatting option through script, write code to get script object & execute this script through Indesign SDK.
I was able to specify formatting option, sheet number, range etc through this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best way to store text or word documents

    Hello Everybody!
I am trying to decide upon the best method for storing a bunch of documents from floppies to an Oracle XE APEX database and I need advice on how to best approach this task. I can see storing these documents as a clob or blob field, but I would like to be able to search the documents. Should I store the actual word version of each document as a blob field and a text only version of the same document as a clob? Any other suggestions on how to best handle this?
I thank you in advance for your advise and assistance on this issue!
    Charles

We have an application that uses a clob definition for a text column and then use Oracle Text to search the text.
The index for Oracle text includes all of the words in the text with the exception of a standard list,i.e. articles, etc..
The text search is very quick and can be used with phrases or single words, and if the '$' is used all forms of that
word will be found. Currently we are using 9i.

  • Is there a way to automatically display a Word document in Print Layout view?

I am using Report Generation Toolkit (v.1.0.1). After displaying the report, the view in Microsoft Word is always "Normal." It would be really nice to automatically show it in "Print Layout" view. (i.e. in Word, go to View >> Print Layout) Is there a way to do this programmatically through the vi? I'm using LV 7.1 and Windows 2000. Thanks,

    Hey dj143
The best way to do something like that is with property nodes. You can do this the easy, by going into word and recording a macro. Then look at the macro and duplicate it using property nodes.here is a vi that I did for you that answer your question

  • Is there a way to search for whole words in RH8?

The results we are getting include individual letters and groupings of letters, besides the word (if in file), which results in multiple files listed in the results that doesn't include the word we are looking for, making the hit list much longer than it needs to be. We've tried quotes and separating word with and to no avail.

It was an option introduced in RoboHelp 8, which is what I thought you were using. Not sure what is causing the problem in your case.

  • Import files word documents how?

How do I import word files

The answer depends on what you want to do with the file.  If you only want to view the file, then yo can email the file to yourself and tap the file in the email to view.
If you want to edit the file you will have to download an app that can open Word files.  I use Office2 HD.  You can then email the file to yourself and tap and hold the file in the email, then select to open the file in the app.
Many apps will allow you to transfer files using iCloud, iTunes, DropBox, etc.  I use DropBox and it works great.

  • How do I search a word document stored in a BLOB using PHP?

I have been successful at saving files in a blob field using oracle.
I need to search through the word document, how can I do it using PHP?
    Please help!

You're going to want to look at the Text Application Developer's guide.
    9i - http://otn.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.show_toc?partno=a96517&remark=drilldown&word=microsoft+word
    10g -
    http://otn.oracle.com/pls/db10g/db10g.show_toc?partno=b10729&remark=drilldown&word=text+application+developer%27s+guide
Give this a read and it'll give you what you need in order to search CLOB and BLOB fields for text data.
It all works around a particular type of index which is then referenced using a CONTAINS clause in your SQL... eg:
SELECT id FROM documents WHERE CONTAINS( document_body, 'Oracle' ) > 0
Once you've got your head around the basic priniciples you're going to want to look at the document filters. This should allow you to index MS Word documents (warning: I've never used this for Word).
It's not something that you can just pick up from reading a 20 line reply on a forum, but it sounds like what you're looking for.
We use it here in order to look up on HTML documents, and it works a treat. We converted our Word documents to HTML so we could mark them up and then display them inline on pages.
We wrap up the SQL that actually does the CONTAINS clause in a PL-SQL function, but I don't image there's a problem issuing a CONTAINS over OCI. Let me know if it works!
Might this be an option for you?

  • I am getting an unknown error when trying to download a word document from mail to pages, any help

I am trying to download a word document from mail into pages and I keep getting an unknown error message, are there special settings for this? Any help much appreciated!

Not there aren't any special settings for this. You just use the Open In feature to save the document into Pages. You could have a font in the document that Pages doesn't like, maybe something that you copied and pasted from somewhere into the document that went corrupt. But there is nothing special about the way that you save a Word document into Pages. You save it like you save any document or file into a compatible app.

  • External Link to Word document question

    Hello, fellow RoboHelpers!
I have a quick question that I am hoping someone can answer
    for me. :-)
I am using RoboHelp X5 and use Microsoft HTML Help (.CHM) as
my file output. I would like to link a Word document to one of my
topics, so when a user clicks the link, they will be prompted to
    open/save the Word document.
The following are the steps I use to do this:
    1) I type the text that I want the to use for the hyperlink,
highlight it, and select the Hyperlink tool (or press CTRL+K).
    2) In the Hyperlink dialog box, I select "File" from the
"Link To:" section and select my Word document.
    3) I select "Yes" to add the Word document to my project
    folder.
    4) In the Hyperlink diaglog box, I select OK, and the link
    has been created.
    5) I generate my Help project and test the link.
    6) When I click the hyperlink, I receive a "File Download -
Security Warning" box asking me if I want to Open or Save the Word
    document.
Problem #1 -- it appears that I can save the Word document by
clicking "Save" without any problems, but clicking "Open" does not
open the Word document in Microsoft Word. Why?
Problem #2 -- The warning box displays three criteria: the
file name, what type of file it is, and "From". I have issues with
the "From" line. While the .CHM file is attempting to call the Word
document from within the .CHM file, which is what I expected it to
do ... the path is, well, ugly looking :-P
    mk:@MSITStore:C:\Program%20Files\RoboHelp%20Office\
    RoboHTML\HTMLMicrosoftHTML\VRHelp.chm::/ICBA.doc
Is there any way that I can clean up this path? If I could at
least get rid of that mk:@MSITStore, that would be a good start.
If anyone has some suggestions, I am all for it!
    Thank you very much,

The "mk:@MSITStore:" is the protocol for extracting from a
.chm file, much like an "http:" precedes a web address. I'm afraid
that just is part of the path if the Word document is embedded in
    the help file.
Ahh, I am sorry to hear that that is the case. Thanks for the
    information!

document within the browser window, or just not open it at all? Are
you adding the Word document as a baggage file? I don't know if
RHX5 does this automatically with your steps as I use an older
    version.
    John
Yes, the Word document is added as a baggage file. If I click
"Open", the Security Warning box disappears and nothing happens
    (unfortunately).
In the Hyperlink properties, I realized that I had the link
opening in the "same window", so I changed it to display in a "New
Window". Now, when I generate/click the link, the Word document
tries to open in Internet Explorer (path and all). I get the same
message box as before asking me if I want to Open or Save the
document. Still, clicking "Open" will not open the Word document in
Microsoft Word. When I press Open, the box simply disappears and
the path remains in the Internet Explorer address bar. If I select
the path in the message bar and press Enter to bring up the
Open/Save prompt again, I can save the document ... but I cannot
    Open it.
A thought just occurred to me while I was typing this: Would
the fact that I am using Microsoft Word 2007 have anything to do
with why the file will not open? I remember hearing that Office
2007 is not compatible with RoboHelpX5, so perhaps that is why the
document is not opening. Still, RoboHelpX5 doesn't seem to have a
problem saving the file to your harddrive regardless of the
filetype, and the Word document I am working with is a .doc file
anyway, compatible with Word 97-2003, not a .docx.

From time to time people ask how to open a Word document from
    the help.
COMPILED CHM HELP - Rick advises that you can use an HTML
Help Shortcut control to accomplish the goal.
You simply specify the file name where you would normally
    specify the application.
I tried to create a HTML Help shortcut by doing the
    following:
    1. I click the Insert Navigation Control button, then HTML
    Help Controls > Shortcut
    2. In the Button options box, I enter a text description for
    the button and click Next.
    3. In the Shortcut Selection, the first prompt says, "Program
to run when shortcut is activated." I search for my Word document
from within my Project Folder, select it, and press Next.
    4. I leave the Font options the way they are.
    5. I click Finish, and the button is created.
When I generate the project and test the button, nothing
happens when I click it. If I do specify the application (ex.
    WINWORD.EXE), Word
does open when I click the button. How can I get it to call
    a specific Word document?
