Anyone aware of this "bug"?

Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0
Application Server on UNIX
Error: FRM-40815 Variable GLOBAL.%s does not exist.
Raised during: Attempt to bring up LOV and validate from list = 'yes'. Each field using this setting in each form does this.
Problem: Error is not thrown running locally with OC4J, but only on remote app server.
Our IT staff has informed me there is no fix for this bug as of yet and I must find a workaround.
Is this truly a bug that requires a patch, or a remote environment setting that is incorrect? Or something else?

I cannot figure out what global variable is needed before the error is thrown.I was thinking along the lines of catching the error the first time, then creating the global variable via the Default_Value built-in. Would the error then re-occur in that particular form and session, or would Forms then try to use yet a different Global variable. If Forms would then use the Global you created, you could issue some message such as "Please re-try". (I realize this is not a very elegant workaround.)
Yes, setting filter before display = 'no' makes this error go away.Oh. That diminishes the impact of the problem if your environment is similar to mine -- we use many LOVs, but very few have such a large selection that the Filter before Display needs to be set to Yes.
In fact, on such validations, we always set the Validate From List property to No, and write a When-validate-item trigger with something like:
