Anyone else received a damaged iPad air out of box?... 2 dents on back out of the box.

I just took a call from my local reseller and Apple have agreed to replace the iPad. A bit late for a Christmas present - but it appears to be ending well.
I'll be certain to unpack and check everything before leaving the store next time

Open current iTunes on your computer. Connect iPhone to the computer with the Lightning USB Cable. Hold both the Home and Power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Sevice and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

I agree with adamcohn95 that it would depend on where you buy the iPad and what the retailer has left in their inventory - or I would assume that to be the case anyway.
If you buy directly from Apple's online store, they are showing as shipping with iOS 5 from what I rememebr reading.

While I understand the reason for syncing an IPAD to your computer via ITUNES, I was wondering if the IPAD will work out of the box without syncing? I bought an IPAD for my wife for Christmas and she wants to sync it to her work computer (her own small business). She's new to Apple and she doesn't have an ITUNES account yet. By the way, she knows she's getting an IPAD for Christmas. We don't want to go to her work on Christmas day to get her IPAD "going."
Question: Can she open the IPAD on Christmas day and have it work or will we have to get her an ITUNES account and have her sync it to her work computer prior to Christmas for it to work on Christmas day?
I would prefer to keep it boxed up until Christmas but I'd like her to be able to use it on Christmas day and then after Christmas go to her work to download ITUNES and sync it to her computer.

I purchased an iPad with 3G for a family member without a computer with Internet connection who lives in a rural area where 3G is available. I shipped the iPad however upon receipt the only thing he could do with it was charge it. Due to physical limitations related to a medical condition he rarely leaves his residence. The marketing for the iPad implies a stand alone capable device, however, until I was able to visit several months after shipping the iPad the family member was not able to use it. During my visit I took the iPad to an AT&T store and they were able to set it so it showed the icons and allowed setup of Interner access. I can understand the Wi-Fi version likely being purchased by someone that already has a computer with Internet access, but the 3G should be able to funciton out of the box as a stand alone unit and it does not.

I just purchased my new ipad2 a few hours ago. Right out of the box it will not power on. Tried to sync in case that would help but it didn't. I can't imagine what the problem would be. At the Apple store they said it should be charged and ready to go.

I tried migration assitant to transfer data from my old macbook air through wifi to my just purchased new macbook air and it took 3 days yet still not done. I finally aborted it. But the MacHDD system disk shows 20GB is still in use. I don't know if some of the aborted old migration data still occupy the disk. Thus this question.

Yes, Migration Assistant successfuly copied files and aborting didn't erase them. As you've learned, WiFi is not the best way to migrate. I assume you are migrating from computer to computer. You could connect the two with an Ethernet cable and that will be a lot faster. If you are using TimeCapsule as your source you can also connect the computer to it with an Ethernet cable.

I just purchased a MacBook Air. Can you tel me how long it takes for the battery to charge? I'm anxious to use it.

Any "out of the box working" distro for W500

I'm interested in finding out whether anyone got any distro to work "out of the box" including graphics and wireless on a W500.
Mint 6.0 and Mandriva 2009 were a no-go in this respect.
I know they can be tweaked, but have a very specific reason for not wanting to tweak them on this occasion.
Any real-life experience and pointers (even in the respect of "I've tried this one and it didn't work") will be highly appreciated.

I can't say for sure but I don't think I had to do anything but disable switchable graphics to get Open Suse 11.1 to work "out-of-the-box" on my w500 (btw I use the intel-graphics).
Couldn't get the integrated 3G-modem (Ericsson F3507G) to work though until I had booted into Windows and installed the latest drivers and used it in Windows. Now that works just fine as well.
Haven't even tried to get the fingerprint-reader to work, since I don't use it.

Has anyone else received an email claiming to be a beta to try out of what is termed "iWorks" through iCould?

Today I received an email claiming to be from Apple. Below are the contents of the email. It basically claimed to be offering me a chance to test out a beta version of what it called iWorks on the iCloud. I just needed to sign in to test it out. Has anyone else received anything similar? Has anyone been able to verify its contents? Or is it a scam? It allegedly was sent by email address of "[email protected]" Help?

Just picked up a new 15" 2.5 this evening, get home (after the store closed, natch) to find that there's a dent on my right speaker grille. Will have to take it back tomorrow, which I'm not too thrilled about. Anyone else have one dented out of the box?

I agree! I had bought a new macbook pro the day it was first available (15th) and I noticed a bad pixel a week later, even though it was only 1, i got a new one. There is no way I am paynig 2000 bucks for a laptop with a pixel out, even if its so little, its all I could notice on the screen that little red dot. So a day after I got my new one, the mouse pad didnt click right, it clicked very well on the left and not on the right and I was having the "sleep issue" as others are. I took that one back the next day and got ANOTHER NEW ONE...so far no problems with this one .
With the money we spend, i want a FLAWLESS machine out of the box, let me dent it, or break it, i dont want one that is already broken.

My iphone 4s suddenly lost all my appts. on my calendar and all my personally assigned ring tones. I just received a ipad air and did nothing that I know of to change anything on my phone.

Help! I am a newbie at this. Have an Iphone 4s has been working fine. I use my calendar for appts. and I have assigned ringtones for certain contacts. Today for no reason that I know of the calendar is empty and the special ringtones are gone. I just received an ipad air and have beenplaying with it. That is the only different variable. I dont know what I did to make the calendar erase as well as the ringtones.

You will have to do more than simply changing settings in your moms account. To set up everything in your own account, go to Settings > iCloud > scroll down and press sign out. From this, check out this link for how to setup iCloud on all of your devices after making a new icloud account on your phone: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Before you set that up, you will have to make a new iCould account which you can simply do after you sign out of your mom's account on your devices.

Has anyone else received a phishing, "Urgent Alert From Apple Support"? It came to my actual iCloud email address.

The message is very clearly bogus, full of errors of every kind, right from the start: "Dear Apple Custumer,"
The fact that it came to my own iCloud address worries me since usually such schemes are to a broad group, like "[email protected]"
I have forwarded the email, with Long Headers, to the fraud-combating websites. Can't find any hint on apple.com/support as to where at Apple itself to direct it.

YES today in the UK, the email text is as below, together with several Links to "Apple" sites and an Apple logo and European support address.
Fairly crude but could fool naive users.
Any one know how to get to the addresses behind the links without clicking them? Just copying and pasting as plain text doesn't seem to work. Any other way just copies the Hyperlink.

Does it really matter whether anyone else has? If you have, that's a problem for you whether or not anyone else has experienced the same issue. Call Apple tech support or take the iPad to an Apple Store, if there's one in your area, and they'll replace the iPad unless it's determined that the problem was caused by some sort of accident rather than a factory defect.
