Anyone else think Photoshop needs a better fractal noise filter?

I'm surprised that after all these versions, PS still has a really simple fractal noise generation filter (Render Clouds). While AfterEffects gives you a huge amount of control with it's Fractal Noise effect, PS is limited still to a 'one type only' cloud filter (with no controls at all!). I would have thought that a tool allowing you to create various organic, procedural patterns (clouds, veins, bumps, etc) would be a hugely requested feature in PS. I use Fractal Noise in AE extremely frequently, for a large variety of uses.
Any thoughts/comments on that?

Yeah, I thought so too. This doesn't cover all the bases, but the free plugin "2d hyperclouds" does offer more options (scale, levels, intensity, random generators, etc). You can get it at:

  • Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to sync my new iPad. Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook? I'm angry!

Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 with Leopard and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that my system can download the relevant iTunes upgrade to sync my new iPad and get my audiobooks (which don't appear anywhere on the device right now). Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook and Snow Leopard costs more also? I don't have financial resources to pay for all the new memory requirement and related upgrades they say I need just to sync my iPad with my purchases.

Thanks for the reply but I already knew this. $20 for Snow Leopard which asks for 5gb free memory. I can only see that I have 4 gb (which I feel is rather a pathetic amount of available memory for any computer). To upgrade this computer's memory will cost another fee (I haven't researched this yet but gather it's more than $20). Then of course I could also be told that the OSX Mackbook Pro that I have can't be memory upgraded - which means I'm being told to buy a new computer - hence my very frustrated last email. I have been given a lovely iPad 2 as a present and now can't sync at all with anything because of this ongoing upgrade nightmare. How on earth am I going to be able to sync my movies, audiobooks etc to this new device??

  • Does anyone else think..............

Does anyone else think you should be able to import a DVD using itunes? Just like you would with a CD? I think itunes needs to get with the times...

If you're referrring to commercial DVDs, the problem with that is that they're copy-protected. Apple would have to build in decoding of the copy protection into iTunes and get licenses from the DVD producers to allow DVDs to be imported, something they're unlikely to grant, though we can hope that at some point the content owners will be flexible enough to allow it.

  • N8 email application - anyone else think it's rubb...

The email application is rubbish because:
It takes 'a hundred years' to get a connection from the mail server
It over-rides the "switch WLAN scanning off" option so it opens and keeps open the connection while it spends a hundred years polling the mail server, even if you set it to connect only every hour or so
It NEVER synchronises on demand, I just get the spinning green circle for ages
When synchronising, it usually leaves emails in that mailbox which I have deleted when using the mail app on my PC so that's incomplete. But then next time it does work; intermittent
It always has difficulty getting the rest of the message after opening and freezes the emails whenever I read them until it's got whatever it needs (i.e. I have the option set to not download images but it tries to do it anyway whenever I open an email
You cannot reply without it first connecting to the network to retrieve the message. That means you can't do offline emails
It's totally rubbish, very disappointing and I have stopped using it. I go to Opera Mobile 10.1 browser and check my mail through the internet directly.
    Anyone else think this?
    Rob

    I second points 3 and 4 especially.
In addition, the widget stops working randomly, see /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-Mail-widget-bug/m-p/869591
The most annoying is that all this seems to appear at random, either for app or for widget.

  • Anyone else think it is wrong to only let you make one recovery of your computor

anyone else think it is wrong that hp only let you make one back up of your operating sys then say if it is lost or damaged you have to buy a new one, beore they used to give you a disk when you bought your compuer with no restrictions on how many copies now it comes with your comp and you can only back it up once, even though its new and people have accidents or lose thing. Compters are expencive and they should not restrict people on how many copies they make as they only work on that compuer any way??

With Hp I could only make one from the recovery partition.
I was only able to make more after recovering with the recovery media that I purchased from Hp
I have only used the recovery media once on my PC. Mainly to see if it work rork.  I have both DVD's and Flash recovery.
I always have several back up images on two different external drives. I have images with factory setting and images of current images. I use Macrium Reflect. IMHO that is the only way to go. I have never had any problems restoring my OS with Macrium Reflect. I have been doing it for years and not one failure. My recovery media would be the last offence, but it's nice to know that it's there.

  • Widget Launcher... anyone else think it's needed?

Is anyone else left as frustrated and lost as i am when using the dashboard "dock" that os x uses by default to launch widgets?
It seems to me that the widgets i have are never where I want them to be. If i want to launch a specific widget, it seems like im scrolling through page after page for way too long, just to find the one I am looking for.
I think there needs to be a huge improvement to the usability of the dashboard. We should at least be able to drag and drop to edit the display order of the widgets in the tray to put those we use most frequently on the first "page".
I think an iPhone-Like interface on a new widget that acts as a launcher for widgets would work great, we just need something that allows widgets to be located and launched quickly and easily.

I do think it can be messy, and poorly worded errors or even what it will do.
    I still can't for some unknown reason(s).
It does work, but maybe only in a pristine lab clean room pure environment.
Likely those pre-existing conditions are still haunting your iPod. Seriously.
I made the mistake of not having my married computer and account handy and just wanted to plug into A computer. Not as safe as thought. And then had to wait for some special iPod A/C plugs so I could recharge and work / use it without being tethered to its one and one monogomous partner.
We have three computers with three accounts on each. Works fine, but not when the "WRONG" computer, or wrong account is the one open and you are absent minded tired or wish you could just "use" the device (all the computers have the same Apple ID btw).
it's never worked right for me before...
    And therein lies the rub....

  • TS4196 Anyone else having problems with messages beta not detecting facetime hd camera?

I searched the web , but couldn't find anyone else with the problem I am having , I'm using a 2.4 GHz i5 macbook pro , downloaded the beta for messages but lost facetime camera it displays this message (This computer does not support video chats.)  i just can't get it to work properly with messages.
    Thanks in advance.

    HI,
As I intimated Messages can either Invoke FaceTime for Video Chats with those people (Contacts) that you can iMessage.
It can also do the iChat Video.
If your Buddies only have iChat then you have to have a Screen Name if you don't already have one.
I will state this another way as well.
In Messages beta menu > Preferences > Accounts you have at least two "Accounts" once you have entered your Apple ID
One of these is the Bonjour option (Runs a Buddy list like iChat used to - see Window Menu if Logged in)
The other is the iMessage account (your Apple ID)
It is possible that your also have some iChat Accounts from before and these may be listed.
They could be AIM or Jabber Logins (And both those type are effectively sub-divided)
If you do have other Accounts and they have the tick box in "Enable this Account" then they will appear in the Window Menu as a list with Keystroke listed next to them.
These can be used to dispaly the Buddy Lists much like iChat.
By default though they care gathered in to one list (See the Preferences > General Section for Unlinking them)
@mac.com and @me.com ending names from Apple are valid AIM login names (Some people may find an MobileMe issued @me.com account does not work if it has run out).
Facebook and Google Mail IDs are valid Jabber IDs (Providing you enable the "Talk" or "Chat" option in the relevant Account Settings.
If your Buddy logs into AIM with their Valid name then you should use a AIM valid name.
If they use a Jabber valid name then you use a Jabber valid name.

  • Does anyone else think that the new update 5.1.1 drains battery life faster than 5.1?

I charged my phone to 100% last night and unpluged it last night before going to bed. 10 hours later, when I got up, my battery had went down all the way to 68% and with no apps running in the background... All while my iPhone's currently running on IOS 5.1.1. I never had this problem with IOS 5.1, when the battery would only drop to around 97% overnight.
    Anyone else having this problem?

With Phone, Messages, and Setting apps active and
Celllular data enabled, my AT&T 64 gig, 4S drops about 4-5%
overnight.  Which is about what it was with 5.1.
So, I personally have seen no change in battery performance
and when using the phone I haven't seen any difference either.

  • Does anyone else think the 'Creating Content in FCS' forum is Forum Bloat?

I'm interested to see if any of you think that the adding of a new forum one level up from here titled as above will lead to both constant dual-postings and unanswered threads? It seems to me to be nothing more than Forum Bloat. If we allow this, why don't we allow "Hardware Setups for FCS", "Viewing FCS work on video monitor vs LCD monitor" or "Heavy Drinking while Editing - users thoughts?" as forums?
These are threads, not forums! If we need more forums (say, Beginner and Elitist?), then so be it - but let's subdivide the topics via some kind of system rather than some arbitrarily broad topic?

I looked at the new forum, but didn't really 'get it'... I guess it will either prove useful in time, or become redundant and have tumbleweed bouncing around.
Creating Content in FCS? What does that mean exactly?
And in regard to the points thing... well, i'll stick my head on the line here...
The amount of times i've read 'Have you tried using the forum search!?' or 'We get asked this question a thousand times a week... use search.' etc etc etc...
So... off they go and use search... lo and behold, they see a thread title that matches their problem and they investigate... if the person can see a green star next to a certain post they will be assured that that answer will help them.
Sometimes threads go on for pages and pages before a solution is reached... if somebody uses search, finds that thread and starts slogging through all the posts, surely it's just plain helpful to have that green star there... just to say...Hey! this is the answer!. It's like a little flag, waving.
...and if, inadvertantly, some points go to somebody... that's all good in my book. It's just a little nod and a wink to say "Thanks buddy, you helped me out."
I will happily continue to remind people to mark threads 'solved' and to give people a little star... it adds a sense of completion.

  • OK, Anyone else think the service should just work...

I've been reading through the forums for some time now.  I have been a BT customer (this time around) for about 2 years.  Previously for many more years.
Seems to me that BT customers have to put up with what our American cousins would find totally unacceptable levels of service.
I came back to blighty 2 years ago after living in the USA for a few years and I can tell you that they would not put up with this service.
My own broadband & BT Vision has by and large worked for the the last 18 months (albeit so dog slow I could have used dial up in the USA for the same speeds).  The last 2 -3 months I have experienced the same issues many other posters to this forum have.  Slow connection rates, broadband dropping, endless rounds of contact customer service, "oh we have changed some boards/connections in your exchange" & lack of any real meaningful technical knowledge (and before anyone starts I worked at Martlesham Heath for some time and have been "playing" with computers for 40+ years at a senior level).
Quite frankly the service falls well below what any customer should expect in many areas and the "self help" is often no help.
I could spend my time diagnosing the exact nature of the faults I have.  Why should I?  I pay for a service.  I don't have that service.
If my BMW ran at less than peak performance with an intermittent problem you can bet it would be back to the dealer at their cost for rectification or a replacement.
    Comments?

  • Does anyone else think the upgrade to ver 7 is a bit overpriced?

I purchased the full version bundle of PE4 and PSE 6 and have been looking forward to the new versions - but I only see a $30 price difference between teh upgrade and the new, full version.
Isn't that a little uut-of-whack, even for Adobe? I just don't know if it's worth it.

  • Does anyone else think that

they need to stop making the ipods bigger and start making the terrible battery life better?
15" Black Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The battery life in the 80 gig is great. It's smaller than my first gen ipod (battery still works). Sure, I wish they'd turn the screen sideways, but that's neither here nor there. All the ipods have been made smaller and all the screens better.
User replaceable batteries are almost top on my list. Like the first shuffle couldn't take an AAA. Come on. I hope all the batteries for laptops etc do eventually get standardized. Sure, your battery will outlast your warranty...but it won't outlast the time you're away from a way to charge it!
An upgrade to the video capabilities (physical and usability) would be my number one wish.

  • Does anyone else think unused broadband minutes should be refunded or rolled over?

I just started using Verizon a little over a month ago.  I love the fact that the 4G LTE is faster than my satalite internet.  What i dont like is the fact that i pay $80 for 10GB of Data, and if i dont use it all i lose it yet if i go over 10 i pay for it...sounds like a lose lose situation.  Why not make it even and rollover any unused data, or credit it back to us on our bills.
So this all stems from the fact that on my 1st bill I used around 5GB of data....Yet 5- 7 days into my second month I some how managed to use 12.2GB.  Nothing was done differently.  No one else had access.  No major DLing took place....No streaming....etc... So i started delving into the bill and that is when and where i learned i only used 5 GB last month...and now i am paying $10/GB for every GB i use...if i already payed for 10 GB last month and only used 5 and now i am at 13 GB....i think in a fair system i should still have another 2 FREE(already payed for) GB coming..... Am I being unreasonable? Is this Idea way out there? Input?

That would be nice.  I am on the 10gb plan and some months I only use 7-8 GB..  However in Feburary I went over the 10Gb limit by a very small margin on the last day of the billing cycle. I got hit with the $10 fee yet did not have the oppertunity to use the vast majority of data I paid for.    It would add value to the customer if the data allotments would carry over. Of course Verizon would lose the overage charges so I doubt this will ever occur.
