Anyone has experience using 9i data guard for standby database??

I'll be appreciate if you let me know how you set it up, thanks...

Hi --
Aperture is extremely flexible.  You have unlimited use of Keywords.  Additional built-in tags are
- Ratings (7 levels, easily shown with Images)
- Color Labels (8 labels, easily shown with Images)
- Location (assigned or based on GPS, has own interface)
- Faces (Aperture comes with a useful face recognition engine, own interface)
- Custom metadata fields (e.g.: Purchaser)
- etc.
It's organizing abilities are second to none in its class (including Lightroom, Capture One Pro).
Provide some details about your research project, and I'm sure we can comment specifically rather than generally.

  • How to setup Data guard for SAP database?

Can someone please tell me how to setup data guard for SAP databases?
    Thanks,
    Abhi

    Hi Abhi,
have a look at OSS 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment you find this under
    14
    Oracle Data Guard
    You can use "Physical Standby".
    You cannot use "Logical Standby".
You are allowed to use Fast Start Failover (FSFO) but SAP Support is not provided.
You can use Data Guard Broker.
You can use Maximum Performance Mode, Maximum Availability Mode and Maximum Protection Mode.
In the case of Maximum Availability and Maximum Protection, you must pay particular attention to a fast network connection in order to avoid performance problems.
Maximum Protection causes the primary database to terminate if problems occur in the standby database.
And here you find on Oracle white paper from 2010 http://www.oracle.com/us/solutions/sap/wp-ora4sap-dataguard11g-303811.pdf
Perhaps some SAP user have answers for you http://scn.sap.com/community/oracle/content?query=guard

  • About Data Guard - Physical Standby Database

    Dear All,
I have read many documents regading Data Guard.
I am about to setup Data Guard in our current environment but want to clear few tings.
I have a confusion between physical and logical standby database.
What I have read from different documents is:
    -Physical Standby Database in (11g)
    1) It is the most efFicient
    2) I can be either in mount or open state
    3) Select queries and reporting can be done to improve performance of the primary database.
    4) Schema on primary and standby database is always the same
    -- Logical Standby Database
    1) You can create additional tables, indexes, etc.
    2) Always in open mode
    3) Select queries and reporting can be done to improve performance of the primary database
Now our scenerio is, that we have one server at the moment, OS is linux and operating system is 11g. We want to setup an other server in another country, will also be 11g on Linux in a way that it acts as standby/backup server. Schema and data is always the same. In case due to unavailability of primary server, standby server acts as the primary server (This has to be automated). The reason for unavailability could be any like maintenance work on primary server, network or hardware failure at primary server. The last and the most important thing is that users from this country where we will setup standby database will insert/update data on the primary server BUT queries and reporting will be done from this newly created standby data.
Kindly recomend the best Data Guard in this scenerio and kindly correct me where I am wrong.
    Thanks, Imran

A logical standby has various limitations on things like data types. It's also a much more complex architecture, which makes it more likely that something will break periodically and require attention. Applying redo to a physical standby is code that has been around forever and is as close to bullet-proof as you'll get. And you would generally prefer to fail over to a physical standby-- if you do things like create new objects in the logical standby, you may have to get rid of those objects during a failover to get acceptable OLTP performance.

  • Rman clone ? duplicate database ? data guard ? standby database?

    hey there !!
What is the difference between Rman clone , duplicate database , data Guard , standby db?
1 more thing , standby database and duplicate database are same??

RMAN Clone : you take backup of a database on one server ,then take it to other server ,again use RMAN to restore the database,A lot manual intervention is needed in this method
RMAN DUPLICATE: same as above just that manual intervention is less. With 11gR2 there active database duplication in which you can clone your test database directly from production database without taking and then transferring the backup to test server.
Standby Database :they are of two types Physical and logical. The setup is done using RMAN with any of the above methods.Standby is the in-sync (can have some delay) version of primary database either block by block which is physical standby configuration or SQL statment wise which is logical standby.
Data Guard:This is also a standby configuration. Here the failover and switchover are automated with the help of DGMGRL utility. In manual standby this same can be done via SQL*PLUS using sql commands

  • Data Guard or Standby Database

    Hi all,
Im confused about "physical standby" and "logical standby". Can an entire database export be logical standby? Or the logical standby is only the output of RMAN backup.
    Thanks

    Physical Standby
A physical standby database is kept synchronized with the primary database, through Redo Apply i.e., block-to-block transfer which recovers the redo data received from the primary database and applies the redo to the physical standby database.
The database schema, including indexes, are the same.
    Logical Standby
The logical standby database is kept synchronized with the primary database though SQL Apply, which transforms the data in the redo received from the primary database into SQL statements and then executing the SQL statements on the standby database.
In Logical standby the physical oraganization and structure will be different.
The below link helps you to know much about the difference between Physical and Logical Standby.

  • Does anyone has experience or working vi's for controlling an IoTech Daqbook2000?

I'm trying to connect to a DaqBook2000 system (via TCP/IP) but the provided vi's do not work. (error 113). Now I want to try to directly send command string but i need the right syntax, which is only given in Delphi, and that is not my strongest point.

You might want to try first running the TCP/IP communication examples that ship with LabVIEW. They are in Find Examples -> Networking -> Data Client.vi and Data Server.vi. You could at least eliminate the problem with the provided VIs and just focus on getting the syntax correct.

  • Data Guard logical standby Versus Streams

I'm referring to both Oracle 10g/9i
If a Data Guard logical database uses similar technology to Streams (Log Mining and SQL apply), why can't you stand up a standby database on a different platform, or at least I have found nothing on the subject.
But in 11g Oracle Data Guard (physical standby database) is a solution for same endianness platform migration.
I will appreciate any insight on the subject.

    Yes...thats true...both uses same technology...
    REDO LOGMINER
    SQL------------------------>BLOCK LEVEL CHANGES---------------------------------->SQL
But there are serious implemetation diff..
    1) Oracle Data Guard is designed for protecting from data failure and disasters.
Streams is designed for information sharing and distribution but can also provide a very efficient high availability solution.
    2) Streams is configured from the bottom up — individual tables, schemas, capture processes, apply processes, queues.
Logical Standby is configured from the top down — start with entire database, then specify only what you don’t want.
As logical standby is top down and changes are capture at remote location (logical standby db) and for that archive log need to be shipped using FAL client/server to remote and to ship the archivelog in Data Guard configuration, all members should be running on same platform.
As said before, Streams is configured from the bottom up, it start with tables--> Schemas--->Database and we can capture changes at local/remote location. If we capture changes locally, target streams db can be on diff platform. But for downstream capture must need same platform as logical standby database needed so that archivelogs can transport from source to downstream db.

  • Anyone has experience with sun idm data exporter /warehouse funtionality ?

Anyone has experience with sun idm data exporter /warehouse functionality. There is not much documentation about how to debug it. I created everything like in the document. Everything seems running fine. I get the following the server tasks->Run Tasks
Data Warehouse Exporter      Data Warehouse Exporter      Configurator      executing
Prior to that i created database and 50 tables as it said in the doc.
I created accounts and modify email address. Nothing is getting to my warehouse database and i don;t know where to look for the errors. Any information is appreciated.

    Hi there,
I have been looking at the source code and I think I have found the problem.
IDM determines whether to update or create a resource account
by attempting to fetch the user from the resource.
If the user exists then update, otherwise create.
In the code, if the user does not exist, the code throws the
    exception: EntityDoesNotExist(1301)
The code then catches this exception
and then returns a null back to IDM,
indicating that the user does not exist.
Well, that is what the code says but this does
    not match its actual behaviour....
I then decompiled the actual class (jar) files
and the code there does NOT catch the exception,
so it bubbles up to IDM, which regards it as an error.
Soo, the jar file that is on the website has a bug in it.
The source code in SVN is correct, but it appears
that the jar file was not rebuilt.
I am attempting to rebuild a new version of the jar file...

  • License Type Requirements To Use Data Guard For Oracle EE

    Hi,
I haven't been able to get a straight answer on this, so hopefully someone can help me.
We currently have two physical servers, both licensed to run Oracle Database 11gR2 EE, however one is running a cpu-based license (primary server/production) and the other is running a named-user based license (secondary server/soon-to-be-standby server).
I had no hand in selecting the license model, so this is what I have to work with. So the question is this: With this type of license model differences, can I use Oracle Data Guard?
Our Oracle software vendor says no because of the differences in the license models.
Any feedback would be invaluable. Thanks.

That is so because there is not much to say about it: You create your standby as described in the Data Guard doc (RMAN DUPLICATE)
Then you ship the Archivelogs to the standby and do recover database there. Technically easy. No higher protection mode possible, though.
I am no License Specialist, but I think that you will always need some kind of license for the standby database - even if you maintain it this way.
My recommendation would be to clarify with your company first what your Recovery Point Objective is - can you live with the probably high amount of data loss in case of Disaster on the Primary?
If not - purchase the correct license and continue with Data Guard Best Practices instead of doing a home grown solution.
    Security is not cheap.
    Kind regards

  • Recommendation for setting up Data Guard for EBS R12 12.1.3

    Hello Experts,
I would like to get some experts opinion and recommendation on setting up Data GUARD for EBS R12.1.3 running on Linux based systems.
Firstly I would wanna let you all know that I am just geek in this subject matter so do excuse me for any mistakes.
While we are planning on setting up Data Gurad fro R12 what are the best practices to consider ?.
We have 2 node rac enabled database and would wanna have non-rac based physical standby, based on this I believe that having db tier on remote or standby site is enough ?
if db node is enough for standby location what are things to be done when a fail over / switch over / role transitioned to standby for the app node from primary site to point db on the
standby location or do we have to have both apps and db tier @ stand by location
--However having a apps tier/node at standby will be of no use as we are planing to run db on mounstate meaning not a active data guard setup.
Please do reply with your recommendation/suggestions/pointers
    Thanks in Advance.

These cables do not work. I have one myself that I thought I would try, basically VGA ports transmit an analogue signal, HDMI carries digital signals. You would need a powered convertor where you can plug in VGA, the box does the magic and outputs HDMI. These claim to do the trick:
    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/vga-to-hdmi-converter.html
I have no association with tvcables.co.uk or the manufacturer of the box, but you should look for something like this, it carries your audio too.

  • What are the pros and cons using Active Data Guard vs Data Guard?

My understanding is that Active Data Guard is an additional database option for Oracle 11gR2 Enterprise Edition. I need to know the pros and cons using Active Data Guard vs Data Guard in order to decide whether to get pay extra for the Active Data Guard.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hemant K Chitale wrote:
Before jumping in to Active Data Guard, one needs to evaluate :
    a. Is there really a need to run queries on the Standby ? The Standby could / should be at a remote site so queries are "across the network". Depending on the nature of the queries and the volume of output, the "performance" of the queries may not seem to be the same.
    b. If the database is not in Maximum Protection mode, the data "seen" at the standby may not be in "real-time" synch
    c. Not all applications are truely read-only when querying. Some applications use "jobs" that write to tables when querying. Such would not work with Active DataGuard. (example : EBusiness Suite). There are very complicated ways of handling this -- and one needs to consider if the complications can be introduced and supported.
Over the network accessing standby read only is really not an good idea, I think no one will compare performance with primary and standby,
But some of them they want to validate data which are very critical, as it is matching with primary or not, Its an added advantage with ACTIVE DATAGUARD
Prior to that until unless stop MRP, open database and then we need to validate, So there is an interruption of recovery, I can say its also an advantage where there is no interruption of recovery.
