Anyone using J2MEPolish and Eclipse 3.1?

I've been trying for a while to integrate j2mePolish into Eclipse, but with not success. I can't even run the sample applications that comes with Polish.
The "nice" thing is, that the user forums have as good as no activity, and hence no help, at all. I've also e-mailed with the creator (or the contact person etc.), which couldn't help me with my startup problem at all.
So therefore, as a last resort before giving up on j2mePolish, I'm asking if anyone here has a clue. I've tried this with both the newest beta release, and the lates stable release.
What I'm doing, is following the exact instructions in the documentation for integrating, by creating a new eclipse project with the sample application(s).
I copy the /samples/menu folder into my Eclipse workspace. Then I create a new project called menu, and the files are automatically included in the project.
None of the libraries are included, so I include them manually - the ones mentioned in the documentation. Then the files Dummy.java and MenuMidlet.java complains about wrong package names - naturally - so I move them into a package called de.enough.polish.example. So far everything looks fine. The information in the build.xml is correct - both
the home path to J2MEPolish and Sun WTK, and the MIDlet description.
So, I run ant, and get the following error:
BUILD FAILED
D:\Program Files\eclipse31\ipg600-workspace\menu\build.xml:115: The MIDlet [de.enough.polish.example.MenuMidlet] could not be found. Check your <midlet>-setting in the file [build.xml] or adjust the [sourceDir] attribute of the <build>-element.The MIDlet should be in D:\Program
Files\eclipse31\ipg600-workspace\menu\source\src\de\enough\polish\example\MenuMidlet.java
So - if anyone has even a small clue, I'd be extremely grateful.

Ok, I do exactly as you specify here. In addition I import the needed jars from the import folder of j2mepolish. Also, I put the resources folder from the polish sample (MenuMidlet) in the project, and all marked errors disappears.
Then I try to run it as an Ant build, and get the following error:
BUILD FAILED
D:\Program Files\eclipse31\j2me\sample\build.xml:115: The MIDlet [source.src.de.enough.polish.example.MenuMidlet] could not be found. Check your <midlet>-setting in the file [build.xml] or adjust the [sourceDir] attribute of the <build>-element.The MIDlet should be in D:\Program Files\eclipse31\j2me\sample\source\src\source\src\de\enough\polish\example\MenuMidlet.java
Ok - so it seems that it for some reason gets "source\src" two times. So I go back to the <midlet class and remove the source.src, leaving just de.enough.polish.example.
Then I run as Ant again, and it compiles successfully.
However, when I try to run the MenuMidlet class as a j2me midlet (in eclipse) it starts, and then crash with this error:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: de/enough/polish/util/Locale
     at source.src.de.enough.polish.example.MenuMidlet.<init>(+11)
     at java.lang.Class.runCustomCode(+0)
     at com.sun.midp.midlet.MIDletState.createMIDlet(+19)
     at com.sun.midp.midlet.Scheduler.schedule(+52)
     at com.sun.midp.main.Main.runLocalClass(+28)
     at com.sun.midp.main.Main.main(+116)
So - seemingly - to compile it I need to give it one address, but for the midlet to run it must be compiled with an address that won't let it compile :-)
Well - then I create a J2ME package from the project, and run the deployed/sample.jad file. Then the midlet actually starts, but when I click Launch, the display shows:
New Midlet de.enough.polish.ui.MenuBar Exception: java.lang.classNotFoundException: de/enough/polish/ui/MenuBar
I can't find a reference to MenuBar anywhere in the sample code.

  • Building J2EE Applications using JBOSS and ECLIPSE 3.0

    Hi all
i am trying to deploy a J2EE application using JBOSS3.2.5 and Eclipse 3.0.
I have written the EJB bean, home, remote and a test JSP page. Can someone tell me the exact procedure...step by step ways to deploy the JBOSS server and run my application.
    My package structure is
    MyProject
    ejb
    client
    Servlet.java
    server
    Bean.java
    shared
    home.java
    remote.java
please tell the various jar files that i must include. Kindly give information about the directory structure, the xml file details and the WAR file generation
    Thankz in advance
    Arun :)

That is a lot of stuff! At a basic level, you can create an EAR file and put it in the JBoss auto-deployment directory. In the EAR file you should have a WAR file for the web component and a JAR file for the EJB component. And inside each archive there should be a valid deployment descriptor that contains configuration data for the component. When you start up JBoss, the application will be deployed and accessible via web browser, or there will be error messages written to the server log.

  • Anyone Using BT and Skype

Just got a MBP 17inch i7 and have installed skype. I'm new to Apple and On my PC I have Paired a Jawbone Prime and use Skype to make Phone Calls. Is anyone using a BT with Skype on the MBP?

    Hi Rachel,
The mac mail application should work with SMTP just fine. I have three SMTP accounts set up and two IMAP accounts running without problems.
Are you using BT email addresses? if yes the mail server should be mail.btinternet.com (incoming & outgoing). Be careful with BT passwords as they are case sensitive.
In the outgoing mail server drop down box the SMTP mail server should also include your email address e.g. it should say mail.btinternet.com:your [email protected]
I have had one problem with BT Mail, I found that if you log in via
    http://edit.europe.yahoo.com/config/login?.intl=uk&.partner=bt-1&.done=http%3a// bt.yahoo.com/%3f
using your email adress and password you will be asked to verify your password, once done, the mail app will work.
If you not using BT mail then apologies.

  • Building jars using ant and eclipse

Note: If this post could be in a more appropriate forum category could someone please tell me which one is better.
    Vexing issue:
I am using ANT so that it will take care of which classes have been modified and therefore which jars need to be updated.
I noticed one way ANT can work is to look at the timestamp of the class files and then build the necessary jars. This works fine EXCEPT that eclipse has a nasty habit of sometimes recompiling everything, even when I dont ask it to. It would seem to make more sense basing the recompilation on the source files, and whether they have been modified. So I set this up with my build.xml, ie
    <target name="compile" depends="init"
    description="compile the source " >
<!-- Compile the java code from ${src} into ${build} -->
    <javac srcdir="${src}" destdir="${build}" fork="true"/>
         </target>
Now suppose I go and change one of my source files, ANT recompiles that file and that all works great. However, suppose that file had in it, which many do,
    public static String EXAMPLE_VARIABLE = "example";
This static variable is referenced in many classes, and yet ANT only recompiles the one file, and thus there begins an inconsistency!
Is there any way to get around this? I would have expected ANT to recompile all the files that depend on the class with the static variable but it doesnt.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cel

You know, that's a good question. I would think JVMs at runtime could resolve static variables, like when it compiles classes using that static variable it puts a placeholder "Hey, here I am using XXX, at runtime, figure it out and give me the value right at the start..". But I think it works like you suggest in that a static value is compiled into every location that uses it. The only thing I can think of is provide a target for a build-all in your ant and have it rebuild all.
I agree though that the javac compiler should be smarter in how it compiles classes. Anytime a class has certain attributes that may be compiled in to other classes, it should check and recompile any class that depends on the static value that has changed.

  • Anyone using Lion and Snow Leopard?  I will be soon.

I will soon be using both Lion and Snow Leopard on my newly upgraded hybrid hard drive.I know that I should need to partition the drive into three 1 for Lion 1 for SL and 1 for data/applications.
The problem is how is how much space should I give each partition?
Has anyone done this before or have any good ideas how to go about it?
    Some extra info:
I am currently using a MacBook Pro (mid 2009 13")
I am currently using Lion OS X v10.7.4
The new drive is 750GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200rpm 8GB(solid-state) hybrid drive
The soon to be replaced drive is a stock 250GB 5400rpm HDD
    Thanks all help appreciated

It's important that you leave a minimum amount of free space for the OS to use. You will see anywhere from 16 to 30 GBs for your OS and iLife apps. You need enough space to allow for all your third-party applications and document files. When fully set up you may have only 30 GBs of free space which is an appropriate amount to have, but not less than 20 GBs. That makes 60 GBs a reasonable minimum size.
If you haven't put everything in concrete, I might suggest going with a 500 GB Seagate XT hybrid together with a 128 or 256 GB SSD using an OWC DataDoubler replacing the optical drive. I suggest that mainly because using the same hard drive for the OS and Data partitions will actually make file I/O slower. Having two drives and using an SSD for the startup volume will enhance file I/O operations. Only two partitions on the SSD - each 60 GBs - fit neatly in 128 GBs.

  • There is a program unfortunately just called "Cookie" (so I can't be successful doing a search here) that is supposed to help protect our private information that resides on our computers.  Has anyone used this and is it worth buying?

Unfortunately this discussion forum has changed and become confusing indeed.  It wanted me to put my entire question in a Subject box which wasn't labeled as such, and I find this strange.  Especially since now it tells me to repeat my question in this box, so here goes.
Has anyone here used a program called 'Cookie' that is supposed to protect our private information from sites which could retrieve it when we surf the Net.  If so, do you consider the program worth buying?

If you are referring to Cookie from SweetP Productions, I have tried it and not found it to work reliably, so I cannot recommend it. I've had the best results with the same company's free Safari Cookies, though it's not perfect (none of the cookie managers are, unfortunately):

  • Anyone using SSL and successfully getting RSS updates about WIKI changes

My group was hoping to use Mac Mini servers for WIKI and group collaboration servers, but I've run into problems. We're security conscious, so we keep the web & wiki server locked-down using SSL (by redirecting port 80-->443, using instructions found in these forums). That part seems to work ok. But we really want (and my boss REALLY wants!) to have a working RSS feed so he gets notifications in is Mac Mail when wikis are updated. I've had no real success getting this to work reliably. Sometimes I'll get updates in osx Mail, but other times, it won't update. I can't put my finger on the flakiness.
    1) Does anyone have this configuration working reliably, that is, Can it be done? Or should I give up and return these two mac mini servers.
    2) If so, any hints or tips as to how to get a reliable RSS feed over SSL?
    Thanks much,
    Rick.

I have it working reliably in Firefox, but not in Mail. Mail seems to have issues with something, either the SSL or the authentication or both. So if he would be OK having it in his FF/Safari bookmarks or in his bookmark bar, that should work.

  • Anyone using CS3 and Epson 1280?

I'm sure this may end up being an OSX issue but is it just that hard these days centering an image on the 1280?
CS3 and OSX up to dat plus supposedly latest Epson driver.
    thanks

    I have Leopard correct.
I do have the 1280 selected in both setup & print and I'm using 4x6 where in this instance I'm printing and image that is 3.75x XX so there's a border.
Also it seems I can no longer see an option to select 1280 border-less when once I could in the days of 10.4.
I downloaded the 1270 driver from the UK sire but will try it tomorrow. They didn't list a 1280, just a 1270 & 1290.
I'll post my results soon. and I will try the "minimize margins" too.
Thanks for all your help so far.

  • Anyone using iPhoto and Aperture??

Apple newbie here...I have iPhoto and Aperture on my iMac.  I've been loading new pics onto iPhoto and Aperture, but am guessing it's taking a ton of storage space with duplication?  Just wondered what more experienced users are doing???

BAckup to CD & DVD, you'd be able to do something similar with either product so I'm not sure that would be much help in deciding.
(And BTW backing up to CD/DVD's may not be your best option given all the changes in technology but thats a different discussion )
So yes you probably have some duplication going on. I'd be leery of deleting anything until you know for certain just what is duplicated and where. Depending on your import settings things may not be as clear as they might seem.
So it would seem you still need to make a decision iPhoto or Aperture. To get you thinking Aperture is clearly the more advanced program from both the standpoints of image management and image adjustment. It also has a hefty learning curve and places more demand on your hardware.
iPhoto has been around a long time and seems to fit the needs of most casual shooters. It has some nicer consumer oriented features as far as themes for slideshows and books and in the image printing end, postcards and letter paper and such. Some of these features would still be accessible  to you if you were using Aperture via the media browser.
    Hope this helps.
