Anything new on temp issues on the 24 IMac's??

Got a question not necessarily an issue and I've researched it quite extensively on the net. Finding ambiguous data concerning this and if possible I'd like the feedback from you folks before calling AppleCare.
After buying my new 24 inch IMac and setting it up, I noticed the aluminum case upper corners and middle upper edge was becoming hot enough to pique my interest. I realized immediately that the aluminum case would be conducting heat more than my older IMac 17 which has the acrylic case.
I was concerned enough to find a temp widget called IStat Pro and download it to physically check the operating temps inside the case as well as the fan speeds.
The temps seem normal and are all in double figures with the CPU average around 50c. The bridges also are in double digits which seem normal enough.
My concern is that the case itself is apparently absorbing a whale of a lot of internal heat and seems to be functioning as a planned heat sink for the unit.
I'm assuming that the engineers at Apple have given the internal temps the thought it deserves and that my worries are ill advised.
I can't explain exactly why this continues to bug me, but as a commercial pilot I'm well aware that heat and avionics are mortal enemies and eventually cause issues in solid state circuits.
I guess what I'm doing here with my post is simply asking if there have been issues reported with the 2.66 IMac 24's and whether there might be a downside to the external case temps as time passes.
Thanks much for any insight into the temp issue. Be aware I've searched the forums and have read what I could find here. Just wondering if anyone has anything new to report.

This way you get a better overall idea. If you really think it's running too hot, you have 14 days from purchase to either have it repaired or replaced.
If it were me, I'd talk to an Apple representative about this heat issue. You can Google for this information and it's amazing on how many hits come up.
I just ran iStat on my iMac but it's the 2.66 20"... CPU is 1199 HD 1199 Optical drive 998
But mine never gets hot like you are talking about, warm but not hot.
I'm not running any CPU intensive apps for those numbers. May climb a tad when I have iTunes running....

  • Anything new with keyboard issues in XP

read alot of posts but doesnt appaer to be anything new on keyboard issues in XP. works for awhile then nothing.mouse does work. i dont have an old keyboard around i can use. was hoping it was something to do with XP settings.
    any word ?

I seemed to have the same issues other people were reporting: USB keyboard would disconnect every five minutes or so, would sometimes re-connect by itself, would other times freeze and require re-plugging. The mouse would usually keep working even when plugged into keyboard. This would happen on all USB ports. It was most noticeable in Windows (through Boot Camp and through Parallels), but it would also happen less noticeably in OS X. In OS X, it would often recover without re-plugging, but errors would show up in the Console logs. It seemed to get worse the longer my computer was on.
Turned out, for me at least, to be a faulty keyboard. Although I tested the keyboard on another computer and it was fine, on the Intel iMac it had the disconnection problem. I repaired permissions, verified the disk, reset PRAM, restarted in Safe Boot, but nothing helped.
I called Apple about it. They replaced the keyboard under warranty, and since then (about two weeks) the problem has not occured once, in OS X or in Windows.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend thorough troubleshooting. Disconnect all other peripherals other than the mouse and monitor your logs in OS X (open Console under Utilities) to see if USB errors come up. Boot into in Safe Boot mode by pressing Shift on start-up. If the error still comes up in OS X, as it did in my case, then you have a valid problem you can call Apple about. If it happens only in Windows, unfortunately it might be harder to make a case since Boot Camp is beta software. When you call Apple you can desscribe all the testing you already did.
    (are you still under warranty?)

  • IMac isn't loading a specific website (can't connect to that server), regardless of browser, though the same website will load on other computers on same network. Is it an issue with the iMac's settings?

Our iMac isn't loading a specific website (we get a message saying it can't connect to that specific server), regardless of browser (I've tried it in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox). However, the same website, which is for a major medical provider, loads without any issue on our other computers on the same wireless network. Is it an issue with the iMac's settings? All other websites seem to be loading without issue on the iMac.

... Is it an issue with the iMac's settings?
Possibly. Make sure you are not using a proxy server. Look in Safari Preferences > Advanced > Proxies > "Change Settings..." This will take you to the applicable Network Preferences. Make sure that nothing is selected in the "select a protocol to configure" list. It should look like this:
    Still not working?
Locate your Terminal app. It is in your Utilities folder. Open Terminal.
In Terminal, copy (triple-click) and paste the following line:
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item'
This will produce a list of all your account login items.
While you are in Terminal, copy (triple-click) and paste the following line:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
This will produce a list of all non-Apple kernel extensions. There will be few, if any.
Post the results of the above.

  • New GL Activation issue for the program RFBILA00(Balance sheet report )

    Hi Guru's,
I am working on Balance Sheet report RFBILA00 and the transaction code is S_ALR_87012284.
Before activating the new GL it was pulling the data from  GLT0 and after activating the new GL it is pulling the data from
         FLGLFLEXT table.
What I want here is I need to create a new report copying this program and should allow the program to pull the data from GLT0
even after activating the New GL if they want to see 2009 data or It needs to pull from FAGLFLEXT if they want to see the data
for 2010 year. But I am not able to find in the program that where it is using these two tables. May be it is a dynamic call.
If anybody is worked in such scenario or have some information about this. Please help me.
    Thanks,
    Ravi.

    Dear,
This happens because while activating New GL table GLT0 was deactivated to be read so that system is unable to read data from this table. You can go to SPRO>Financial Accounting(New)>GL (New) > Tools>classic table (GLT0 read) somthing like this.
    You will find this deselected.

  • New Customer - Billing Issues from the Beginning

I just bought a new home for the first time and I decided to go with Verizon to try them out.
I set everything up so it would be ready for me in September when I closed.
Even though I took the TV off of my bundle (funds changed and I couldn't afford it) before it even got set up (DirecTV was quick to refund the charge, even though they didn't want me to leave), I was fine.
Even though I was told while on Vacation before the closing that Verizon High Speed Internet wasn't available in my area (Even though I had specifically asked the online agent I talked to whether it was available in my area since no one else around here seemed to think it was), you know, it was still fine.
I didn't need the TV and I could get the internet elsewhere, but I still needed a land line and Verizon was the most economical price for home phone around here.
Everything was fine with just the land line.
But then, I never recieved a bill. I thought, well maybe when I paid for the overall bundle (I had been charged, and refunded for the TV service), that took care of September. So I didn't worry about it.
October rolls around, still no bill. My parents at my old address didn't recieve a bill for me either, SO I thought "well maybe they wait until the end of the month just in case I make long distance calls when I don't have long distance coverage or something."
So all my bills start coming in November and still nothing. I couldn't even log onto My Verizon to see if I had been missing a bill because I never RECIEVED a bill, so I never had my ACCOUNT number which was required to log IN because I had "made changes" to my account.
So I finally called Verizon up yesterday and found out I was late in payments and owed $109.42 due by December. Okay, fine. I didn't look into the missing bills and I know I was late, so I have no problem paying this payment.
I actually got the bill in the mail today, forwarded by the post office to my new address, even though when I asked for them to send my bill out again, I asked that they send it to the NEW address. However, I can't pay it online. When I log into My Verizon (now that I FINALLY have my account number) it says "You have a payment due" on the right side of the screen and it shows me the charges for the month of November, but
    a) when I click on "make payment" it tells me I don't have a bill at all, so no payment is necessary and I can't actually click on the field to make a payment anyway. It literally will not let me make a payment. It says I have no bill.
    b) I want to see the charges from the previous two bills but I can't. I want to know how much the late fees were because even for three months plus late charges, I cannot fathom how my bill is at $109.42 when I only have Regional Essentials with Voice Mail.
So I don't want to be late on another bill, but I don't want to blindly pay for the last three months without knowing exactly what I'm paying for, but I can't pay online, I can't see previous statements. So I can either pay over the phone (for a FEE) or I can mail in a check and HOPE I can look at the charges later.
Needless to say I'm not very impressed with Verizon so far.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

I'm in the process of copying 4 innacurate bills, e-mails from Verizon & supporting documentation to forward to the FTC, FCC, and anyone else I can think of to expose Verizon's shoddy billing practices.  Efforts to resolve the matter have been unsuccessful, I'm sick of calling every month, and receiving the next bill with unresolved issues.  Last call to Verizon the CSR was so confused that she couldn't itemize the disputed amount...it's a disgrace. I was however cautioned to pay the disputed amount or I would have to deal with collections - BRING IT!!!  As soon as I can find an attractive bundle with COMCAST I'll cancel Verizon - it's the worst decision I' every made.

  • After the upgrade to the new firmware, time capsule disconnect the imac (wireless connection by airport) after few seconds. NEED HELP!

    I have:
    imac 24" (year 2008) OsX 10.6.8.
    Time Capsule  (year 2010) 2Tb.
    Wireles connectio by Airport v5.6.1
    Problem:
Since the last firmware update of the time capsule, the connection is lost after a few seconds.
Note: a windows 7 pc is connected to the time capsule too, without problems!
    Can someone help me, please!

Go back to 7.6.1 at least.. do not use 7.6.3 firmware.. as it has wireless issues.
You go back by selecting firmware update with option key held down.

    Hi Mariah ~
It's Shaunn, the original poster. Thanks for your posting. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's having this problem.
Now that you mention it, I'm having the exact same problem on Facebook as well, when I play Family Feud.
I wish someone would investigate and post a solution to this problem. No-one from Playlist has responded, and no-one "Officially" from Firefox either.
So Mariah, I appreciate you and your post.
If you find anything out...from anywhere...would you please let me know. You can post it right here and I'll get an email from Firefox.
I'll do the same for you.
Enjoy your day and good luck.

  • My search engines do not work. I can access all my bookmarked items, but I cannot search for anything new. I followed all the troubleshooting steps I found but it did not work.

My search engines do not work. I can access all my bookmarked items but I cannot perform any new searches. This problem has been happening since this morning. I followed all the troubleshooting steps that I could find and nothing has worked.

Just to make sure, did you check the ring/silent button on the side of the phone? If it is set to "mute" you can still hear your selected ringtone in settings/sound, for example.

  • Brand New Airport Extreme Doesn't Wake the iMac

I have been having MASSIVE problems with Back To My Mac, so I figured the Airport Extreme was the problem, since it was two years old. I replaced it with a brand new one. Now I have two problems: Back To My Mac still doesn't work, and the brand new Airport Extreme cannot wake the iMac.
The iMac has "wake on network access" enabled. The two-year-old Airport Extreme was able to wake the iMac.
What do I need to do to enable this feature on the new Airport Extreme?

No, that doesn't address the problem. The two-year-old Airport Extreme could wake the iMac with either a wireless or an ethernet connection. According to Apple's documentation, if the preferences say "wake on network access" it means both should work, and they used to.
The brand-new Airport Extreme cannot wake the iMac at all. When I installed it, I used the new Airport Utility to copy the settings from the old one. Could it be that some setting necessary for waking the iMac was set incorrectly by this process? If so, how do I correct it?

  • The 'sound' of the iMac?

I'm helping a friend set up a small recording studio with his brand new 30" iMac. I notice there is a faint 60 cycle-ish hum coming from the otherwise silent creature.
Is this basically the 'running sound' of the new iMac or, if I do some finagling with the wiring, might I be able to quieten it further. It sounds like the sort of hum one would pick up from improperly grounded wiring ... though we are not talking about what I'm hearing through its speakers; only what I hear as I hover over the beast.
I'm aware this may seem a bit dumb ... but if one never asks, one is never quite sure...

    Hey RC - R,
How does one 'quote' the incoming post (I know there is a button or keystroke somewhere), so that questions can be answered without confusion? In the meanwhile, I will indent my answers:
Where is the iMac in relation to the mic?
Mic is three feet in front of screen... aimed away from the screen at the 'voice'.
Is the mic a cardioid or omni pickup pattern?
It's a Neumann directional (very nice mic)
Is it suspended in an isolating mount?
It's on a standard mic stand ... not touching the iMac desk. I'll check around and see if they got some kind of proper holding device with the mic.
Can you increase the distance between the iMac & mic, just for recording? How far is it to the surfaces behind & above the iMac?
Not touching the surfaces. Can't move it further away, coz he needs to be working with the iMac simultaneously.
There should be very little sound coming off the front of the iMac; most of it should be reflected off the surfaces near it, plus a little transmitted as vibration through the surface it is placed on. Can you place a low baffle between the front of the iMac & the desk (or whatever the work surface) & maybe set everything on a sound deadening mat? Everything will be magnified if the gain is cranked up & a compressor is used in the recording chain to control level, so see if that is an issue.
The iMac is sitting at the back of a soundbooth we just built, lined with acoustic foam. Nice little booth that covers the entire work table, a little house, nice but for the 'hum' of the iMac. No vibrations are being transmitted to the mic (other than sound vibrations). I'm going to see if I can build a little acoustic foam baffle around the back of the mic; try a gate on the recorded voice if need be; or train the guy to use his perfectly good Zoom, and put the iMac to sleep every time he has to record a line.
The recordings are never going to be totally silent if the mic & iMac are in the same acoustic space, but with attention to detail you should be able to get pretty quiet results. If not, all I can suggest is getting an external monitor & moving the iMac to a more isolated spot for recording sessions.
If only he had bought a tower instead of the iMac. It's such a beautiful screen though. Mmmm. I bet for $300 we could get him a good Samsung to place in the booth, drop the iMac to the floor below, and then only bring the iMac back up when he has to do the color correction and post production - which is only done at the very end, and which I will be helping him with.
So that is another good idea. I'm meditate on it a bit. Dave has just blown a nice bit of cash on making the sound booth, getting the new iMac, plus a Canon SLR that does HD ... another monitor might just be the straw and the camel thing.
Thank you mucho for your good advice...

  • Anyone have trouble with sharing internet by Airport from the iMac?

I was using my 20" iMac as a transmitter for our internet connection and we started to see the strangest problem. The iMac would continue to indicate that it was transmitting, but the signal would disappear on the end of the 12" powerbook, TiBook and iBook that were using it.
The iMac was not going to sleep - was set to never sleep - continued to have a working connection, continued to indicate it was transmitting, but the shared connection wasn't visible on the list of either powerbook.
Turning airport off and on in all the machines didn't help, stopping sharing and restarting it didn't help. But then suddenly the signal would show up again sometimes in 10 minutes, sometimes in an hour.
Tried using all different sorts of levels of encryption, including no password - same problem.
We're currently using an Airport Extreme base station with no problems, and have used a linksys router with no problems. The hardware test indicates no issue with the iMac airport and the iMac is capable of joining and maintaining a connection with the airport express base station or the linksys router without a problem.
It seems to only have a problem when it is hosting the wireless network. (This issue is in addition to the slowness of the iMac airport connection, but that's a different thread)

Never had an answer to this - just stopped using the Airport on the iMac. For now, I'll mark this as answered.

  • Sync issues with LR5/iMac and iPad (IOS 8.1)

I have been using published folder to sync my photos with my iPad and iPhone, and for the past two years, it's been working fine but lately, something has gone awry. For some reason, now when I edit a photo in LR and it republishes the photo (as a jpeg), itunes simply doesnt see the phtot and it disappears from the folder on the ipad. Yes, the new publised photo is in the iMac and it appears just like the photos before and after it, but iTunes doesn't send it over. I have tried manually exporting these photos to a different folder to see if it will bring them over, but they still wont come. I've tried renaming as well, but still no luck; it's almost as if LR is creating some strange jpeg that iTunes cannot see.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Should I get the imac 2012 or MacBook Pro retina

I can't choose between the imac 2012 or the MacBook Pro retina display. i have an iPad to take with me on the go. I am a photographer. I do lots of photo editing. I'm also a student. If you could help what would be great. What do you have? What would you get? What's best for editing photos? Remember I have an iPad, so I'm really looking for the best computer. Thanks

One plus for the MBP is that it's portable, whereas the iMac is not. And if you need more screen space when working at home, you can always keep an external monitor in your studio.
Plus for the iMac is the 'built-in' larger screen, but there is no portability.
If you want a portable machine, get a MBP - you can't do the photo editing on the iPad that you would want while you can on the MBP.
If portability is not an issue, get the iMac.
Back in the G4 days, I had both a G4 tower and a PowerBook G4. Used the first at my desk and the latter around town and around the house. Now I have only a MBP and it's tethered to my desk 90% of the time since I bought an Apple Thunderbolt Display. But I like being able to take it out for a spin that 10% of the time when I'm away from my desk.
Portability and screen size would be the deciding factors for me. A 15" MBP almost demands a larger external monitor to use for photography, etc., while the unportable iMac has the larger screen already.
So decide if you need/want portability first and foremost and then make your decision.

  • Ijust bought my brand new 21.5" imac computer but i am unable to download, or open almost anything because it asks for a password. When we bought the imac it already had the password and we didnt know it.

i just bought this brand new imac but i am unable to use or download almost anything because it asks for a password. When we bought this computer there was already this password. We did not install it. Also just today we went to a shop to ask for the password n=but they said in it on the little book that tells us how to use the imac. I looked throught that book memorized it but still could not find the password...

Well i am able to go through things, and everything. I dont know quite what that means but you dont need to enter a password to download Adobe Flashplayer. I just did it. wasnt asked. Of course I know the password I set up when I got the computer new but I have never been asked when downloading. When it comes to installing........
If you are being asked BY YOUR MACHINE for a password you do not know it is NOT a new machine.

  • After we installed a new airport extreme, the imac running snow leopard displays black box msgs saying to hold down the power button and or the reset button and then restart your computer. Can anyone provide info that can help resolve this issue?

Experiencing similar issues on both imac and power book: after replacing an original airport extreme with a new airport extreme both computers display a black box msgs that reads: "...turn off your computer by holding down the power button and or the reset button for a few seconds and then restart your computer."...
one of the printers are usb'd to the imac. The printer is not "seeing" the imac nor will it print wireless from the powerbook which was the norm prior to the upgrade on the airport extreme.
Upon restart, the imac does not "see" the wireless keyboard or the mouse until it is "found" again.
At this time the imac or the powerbook can get on line.

It sounds like your computer is getting Kernel Panics. Please look at About "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) messages and if the message seen on your display is like the one in the link then you have confirmed you had a KP. KP's can be tough to track down because they can be caused by software or hardware. The first place to start is to post the complete crash log so we can look at it, often there are clues in the log. You can find it at:
