AP1240 LWAPP commands

We've got some new AP1240 running LWAPP. In experimenting with how they get their connection and Config to the 4400 Controller we found doco stating there are some LWAPP commands available.
Configuring Controller Information
To manually configure controller information on a new (out-of -the-box) access point using the access point CLI interface, you can use these EXEC mode CLI commands:
AP# lwapp ap ip address <IP address> <subnet mask>
AP# lwapp ip default-gateway IP-address
AP# lwapp controller ip address IP-address
AP# lwapp ap hostname name
We don't seem to find these commands available in CLI. Don't show up under help and command not found when typed in manually. Any ideas ??
Yes we know about the DHCP and DNS options we are just testing out everything.

  • Lwapp commands

I can set the second wireless lan controller with static command. My access are configured with lwapp command:
AP#lwapp ap controller ip address <IP-address-wlc>
but, How I can set the second ip address of my controller with lwapp comands?
    thanks

    Hi Ricardo,
Using the CLI, follow these steps to configure primary, secondary, and tertiary controllers for a specific access point and to configure primary and secondary backup controllers for a specific controller.
Step 1 To configure a primary controller for a specific access point, enter this command:
    config ap primary-base controller_name Cisco_AP [controller_ip_address]
Note The controller_ip_address parameter in this command and the next two commands is optional. If the backup controller is outside the mobility group to which the access point is connected (the primary controller), then you need to provide the IP address of the primary, secondary, or tertiary controller, respectively. In each command, the controller_name and controller_ip_address must belong to the same primary, secondary, or tertiary controller. Otherwise, the access point cannot join the backup controller.
Step 2 To configure a secondary controller for a specific access point, enter this command:
    config ap secondary-base controller_name Cisco_AP [controller_ip_address]
Step 3 To configure a tertiary controller for a specific access point, enter this command:
    config ap tertiary-base controller_name Cisco_AP [controller_ip_address]

  • Lwapp - Command is disabled

We have some 1131 lightweight access points which were once registered with a controller which is no longer available. When we issue the command "clear lwapp private-config" The message "ERROR!!! Command is disabled."
This error message indicates that the static configuration commands are locked out because either:
This command was entered while the LAP is registered to a controller.
The LAP was previously registered to a WLC, but the username/password was not changed from the default.
OK both these things apply. The point is how do I clear the AP and start again since I cannot connect it to the controller???

    Hi Ian,
    What a pain (we have all been down this road and at least we won't forget to enter a username/password again :) I was working with some folks recently who were experiencing this same issue;

  • "command disabled" when setting IP address on AIR-LAP1252G-A-K9

Hi, I am trying to set ip address on cisco ap AIR-LAP1252G-A-K9 using the "lwapp" command but get message "command is disabled"
I am connecting via console cable to ap. I have already reset ap to defaults.
Not sure why I'm getting this error "command disabled" Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

This is a hidden command so don't try using a ?  Since your ap is a 1252, like Rasika mentioned, use lawapp instead of capwap.... you need to erase the nvram.
The other way is this method:
Hold reset for over 30 seconds to get to ROMMON
    ap:delete flash:private-config
    ap:delete flash:private-multiple-fs
    ap:boot
Your AP will be factory default

  • ERROR!!! Command is disabled.

I have a lwapp 1130 here and it's no longer associated with the controller.  I issued the clear lwapp private-config, it went through and cleared the config.  Now when I try to issue the lwapp commands to set the ip and such i get ERROR!!! Command is disabled. I read that this means the static configuration is locked, but it did not say how to "unlock" it.  Any ideas or suggestions on how to get this re-enabled.

  • 1131 LWAP not join WLC 4402

I am deploying WLC 4402 with LWAP 1131 but AP fail to join the WLC .The resone that I dont have DNS server. The error message in the AP is :

    *Mar 1 00:00:49.371: LWAPP_CLIENT_ERROR: lwapp_name_lookup - Could Not resolve
I tried to configure the Controller address in LAP but I fail ,The error when I tried to configure AP is below:
AP001d.451f.8582#lwapp ap controller ip address 172.26.5.10
    ERROR!!! Command is disabled.
    my question is :
is it possible to make LAP join WLC with out DNS,if yes how ?

    Hi Yhab,
    There are other ways besides DNS to help in the AP and WLC Discovery process. Have a look in this good doc;
Lightweight AP (LAP) Registration to a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a00806c9e51.shtml#topic2
    For the Static entry problem;
If this AP was ever registered you can use this command from the LAP CLI to clear the LWAPP configuration on the LAP:
    clear lwapp private-config
This allows you to use the AP LWAPP static configuration commands again.
    Here is an example:
    Enable (enter password)
    AP1240#clear lwapp private-config
    AP1240#lwapp ap hostname AP1240
    AP1240#lwapp ap ip address 10.77.244.199 255.255.255.224
    AP1240#lwapp ap ip default-gateway 10.77.244.220
AP1240#lwapp ap controller ip address 172.16.1.50
Note: You cannot use the clear lwapp private-config command when the LAP is registered with the controller.

  • Unable to get IP address from DHCP

    hi all,
I have a AP1131 which cannot get IP from DHCP server. I have tried to configure static IP address and controller IP by lwapp command and the AP can successfully joined the controller. However, after I changed it to DHCP in WLC, it cannot get IP address and all lwapp config is gone. It cannot join the controller anymore only after I reset it and configure a static IP for it. The following error message appears after I changed it to DHCP in the WLC:

Any expert has some idea on it?
    Thanks.

Is that AP on the same subnet as the other AP's? The thing is, when you configure the AP with static information, you say the AP is able to join the WLC. This means that there is no issue with the AP. Now when you set the AP to use DHCP and not static, the AP does not obtain a DHCP address? Is that correct? If you have more than one AP on the same switch and on the same vlan, and only one has an issue, then maybe reset that AP to default and see if that fixes it. I'm also assuming that the vlan is being forwarded and you have enough dhcp address in the scope.

  • Accesspoint not joining correct controller

    Hi,
I am trying to setup a 2504 Wireless Controller with a few  AIR-AP1262N-E-K9 Access Points. But i'm having trouble getting the access points to connect to the controller.
The controller and AP's are setup at a local network at one of my customers. They are part of a quite large organization and are therefore connected to some of their other divisions in different contries via MPLS. The DHCP and DNS servers are therefore on a different subnet.
I have confirmed that the Access Points do get a correct IP from the DHCP server and that i am able to ping from the controller to the AP. When looking at the controller it does not receive any join requests from the AP's.
I have setup a console connection to the controller and 1 AP, so i can view debug information.
Most guides mention that you can run different LWAPP commands from the CLI on the AP like show lwapp for example. But i am not able to run any of these LWAPP commands on my AP.
I was hinted that this could be due to the fact that the AP was actually connected to a controller. Is there any way to confirm this from the CLI on the AP? I have run the following command: ap#show controller which gave the following output:
    interface Dot11Radio0
    Radio Dortmunder 2.4
I was wondering if this could actually mean that the AP had joined another controller?
When looking at the LED it is constant green which should mean that it up and running, but no clients is associated to it yet.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Need to reset 1231 Access Point from LW mode, to standard mode

    How do I do this?
I've tried the clear lwapp commands, and nothing seems to help.
Do I need to load a new IOS?

Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Note This section does not apply to Cisco C3201WMIC and Cisco C3201LAP.
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 On the PC where the TFTP server is located, perform these steps:
    a. Disable any software firewall products, such as Windows firewall, ZoneAlarm firewall, McAffee firewall, or others.
    b. Ensure all Windows files are visible. From Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders.
Step 4 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 5 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 6 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 7 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 8 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 9 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 10 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

  • 1140 and 4400 WLC detection issues.

I am not able to get our 4400 WLC to detect a new AIR-AP1142N-A-K9. (1140 series).
I have given the interface bvi1 an ip address and subnet mask that the controller should pick up.
The software version of the 4400 WLC is 7.0.230.0.
The software version of the AIR-AP1142N-A-K9 is C1140-K9W7-M.
I am able to connect older AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9 units without any problem using the LWAPP commands but this unit does not seem to support these commands?

I obtained the Wireless LAN LWAPP Upgrade and Recovery Image for 1140 Series (c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA2.tar) and issued the following command:
    "archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://TFTPSERVER/c1140-rcvk9w8-mx"
    I receive the following error:
"%tar checksum error in fd 0 ERROR: Failed to extract from archive file tftp://TFTPSERVER/c1140-rcvk9w8-mx"
    Is this the correct image?

  • AP1231G upgrade to thin-ap & cannot find the "lwapp" or "capwap" command !!!

    Dears,
    I upgarde the AP1231G to thin-ap!
I  want to set static lwapp ip information.
But, The AP not the command "lwapp" or "capwap"?!
Does anyone know where I can find documentation on how to fix this?

I just ran into the same issue with 1230's but only when the AP was on a different vlan than the WLC.  What I did was put an ip-helper address on the vlan the ap was on and pointed that to the managment interface of the wlc.
    interface vlan
    ip helper-address
Then on your L3 device, globally configure the following:
    ip forward-protocol udp 12222
    ip forward-protocol udp 12222
    ip forward-protocol udp 5246
    ip forward-protocol udp 5247
I don't know what version you are running and if you are running secure or not.  After the AP's join and download the firmware, you can remove these.

  • Error Command is disabled - from lwapp CLI

    Hello,
i keep getting this message when trying to restore back to default or clear controller ip definations in the lwapp ap. How do i get around this?

    Hi Friend,
East way is let it join controller first and then you can reset the configuration of AP from controller GUI.
If that is not possible for you for any reason you can console into AP and issue a command "dir flash" and you will see 2 files name "env_vars" and "private" name file. Delete it from flash running a command "delete flash:env_vars" and same command to delete second file and just reload the AP and it will delete old configuration regarding controller ip address.

  • Problem converting air-ap1131ag-a-k9 to Lwapp

i have a person on my team who converted some autonomoous air-ap1131ag-a-k9 to lwapp. I don't think they did it right.
what they did is , booted the ap ( at this point it was running in autonomous mode), set the ip to 192.168.1.200 and their laptop to 192.168.1.100 connected the laptop directly to the AP. (I have found out that these AP's were old AP's that previously had configs on them, ( static ips, a whole config) they came from another building , they were the ones that other lwapps replaced.)
they then went to the web gui of the AP , went to software upgrade and loaded the lwapp recovery image on the ap (c1130-rcvk9w8-tar.124-10b.JA3.tar). the software loaded fine, and converted the AP . and thats all they did
(I had mentioned that we should use the upgrade tool, but they didn't listen)
the aps got mounted , on the ceiling in the hospital, but when they went to turn them on, they didnt show up right on the controller , they kept joining and unjoining..
i think there is a problem with the SSC, i remember, something like the time had to be the same on the ap and on the WLC.
anyways, these could be older AP's before 2005 ( unknown to me) which would mean they dont hav MIC's and have SSC. and the ap is refusing them is my thought.
the WLC is setup to accept self signed certs.
    anyways...
these aps are now mounted on the ceilings , and when you do a show cdp nei, it has an ip address from when it was an autonomous ap.
Also, what is the best process you have found to convert Old autonomous 1131 AP's to lightweight mode?
    thanks

  • AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9 configure command does not seem to exist

I have an AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9. Straight out of the box I thought it would have the GUI functional but this is not the case. I am brand new to Cisco products so it is taking me a while to get use to them and to TelNet but from what I have read in about 6 different manuals none have explained how I can access the configure terminal command when It doesn't show up. I am in privileged mode with access of:
    AP001c.588e.a266#show privilege
    Current privilege level is 15
Version is 12.3(7)JA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1). I haven't changed any settings except the ip settings and time and date.
    AP001c.588e.a266# ? gives me
    cd Change current directory
    clear Reset functions
    clock Manage the system clock
    crypto Encryption related commands.
debug Debugging functions (see also 'undebug')
    delete Delete a file
dir List files on a filesystem
    disable Turn off privileged commands
    enable Turn on privileged commands
    exit Exit from the EXEC
    fsck Fsck a filesystem
help Description of the interactive help system
    led LED functions
    lock Lock the terminal
login Log in as a particular user
    logout Exit from the EXEC
    lwapp lwapp exec commands
    mkdir Create new directory
more Display the contents of a file
name-connection Name an existing network connection
    no Disable debugging functions
    ping Send echo messages
    but no configure command
If I try to use the configure command I get
    AP001c.588e.a266#configure terminal
    ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker
If it helps any if I use show configuration command:
    startup-config is not present
If I can't get into global configuration mode I cant enable the GUI, turn on the wireless, or do much of anything else so I need some help.
    Any would be appreciated,
    Matt Brown

    Hi Matt,
    The problem here is that the AP you received is a Lightweight AP which is meant to be used with Wireless Lan Controllers and WCS. The "LAP" portion of the part number shows this Lightweight designation. This can be converted to an Autonomous/stand-alone AP that you desire;
    Here is a conversion method;
Reverting the Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
    Hope this helps!

The AP has been converted to lightweight:
    C1240-K9W8-M
The K9W8 is lightweight and K9W7 is autonomous.  You need a WLC for the K9W8.  If you have an autonomous image, you can convert it back:
