Apache Directory access problems
I'm having problems accessing a directory from a php script. I know the php is correct since I had it loaded on my raspberry pi and it worked there, but the arch apache permissions are a little more strict. The relevant portions of my httpd.conf are:
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks Indexes
AllowOverride all
Order deny,allow
Allow from none
</Directory>
<Directory /media/external/hosting>
Options FollowSymLinks Indexes
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
and in my php, I try to access the folder with:
$dir=opendir("/media/external/hosting/");
while (($file=readdir($dir)) !== false)
if ($file != "." and $file != ".." and $file != "index.php")
array_push($files, $file);
closedir($dir);
I have tried looking at other explanations of how to do this, and mine seems to match, but it's not working. Is there something wrong with my httpd.conf? Is this the proper way to allow access to this directory?
Have you tried adding "/media/external/hosting/" to the open_basedir in php.ini?
From the php docs:
open_basedir string
Limit the files that can be accessed by PHP to the specified directory-tree, including the file itself. This directive is NOT affected by whether Safe Mode is turned On or Off.
When a script tries to access the filesystem, for example using include, or fopen(), the location of the file is checked. When the file is outside the specified directory-tree, PHP will refuse to access it. All symbolic links are resolved, so it's not possible to avoid this restriction with a symlink. If the file doesn't exist then the symlink couldn't be resolved and the filename is compared to (a resolved) open_basedir .
I don't have much php experience but my understanding is that it will refuse to access anything on filesystem unless it is explicitly allowed to do so.

Please help me to overcome this issue.Hi,
Possible checks
1) Have you added the Host file in the following path
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc--Hosts
2) Ping the IP address of the XI Server from Your Local Machine whcih you are trying to conect.
3) Check whether you have Installes the J2SDK on Your Local Machine
to check goto Run-cmd--java -version

PL/SQL directory access problem
Hi ,
I am having trouble reading and writing files from PL/SQL (using UTL_FILE or DBMS_DATAPUMP). The directory exists in the Unix Machine. An Oracle directory has been created, and READ, WRITE permission granted to the Oracle User from which I am running the PL/SQL procedure.
When the DBA runs a export from the command line, it works. Are additional permissions needed to be able to access the directory from PL/SQL?
EmHello,
Can you post you pl/sql procedure or anonymous block? Also when running your pl/sql what exact error(s) are you getting?

Hi Experts,
We are trying to upgrade from old server(OS - windows2000) to new server (windows 2003).
Its also upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.
Currently we have 5 application servers mounted on a single database server.
When we tried to upgrade in test server, user is not able to acess the server directory(to save file from backround job) inspite of having authorization.
Please let me know if you need further inputs.
Eagerly looking forward to your help.

When the installation is done according to the documentation,
web access does not work because the scripts that add entries to
the jserv.properties file add duplicate references to
wrapper.env and wrapper.classpath. Look at the jserv.properties
file below and look at the remarked-out (#) lines of the
duplicate references. For example, look at the references to the
wrapper.env=LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Oracle, please note this bug so the web access problems are
minimized when the product is intstalled.
Thank you,
William T.

Glibc-2.9.2-i686 breaks apache and causes problems with samba?
I could not start the apache daemon. The output from /usr/sbin/apachectl start is

The getaddrinfo.c, I believe, is in the glibc package.
Also, I get error logs in my /var/log/samba directory named like "__ffff" followed by the IP address of a remote client. In one of them it says that samba is dumping core and contains

I downgraded glibc to 2.8-3 and I can now start apache. No problems with samba yet either although I had to make pacman skip dependency checks because a number of packages depended on glibc >= 2.9.getaddrinfo.c - this is place where glibc 2.9 has a major change in IP resolving. see the bugreport we had and still have. search google and upstream (Fedora/RedHat) for reports.
maybe a simple recompile of the affected packages can help. holding an outdated version is a bad solution. new packages compiled against the new version may use new functions and break with the old one. -
Directory Access and Permissions
Hi,
I work at a company that's having a problem setting up the new macs (Core 2 Duo iMac 24") our marketing department just ordered.
The rest of our network uses windows, so we have active directory logins for everyone. We've setup the Directory Access on the new iMacs so that marketing users log in using their AD username and pw. The local user account that 10.4 generates is set to be a local admin, but the users are just normal users in AD.
The problem we're having is with setting permissions for some Apps that require changes from the default settings. When I go to set permissions in the Info pane of a folder or app, I open the pull down menu for 'Owner' and go to 'Other...' at the bottom to grab the user from AD (because the user is not available in the top portion where local users can normally be selected). This is where the problem occurs. This opens up the "User Listing" box, which contains a long list of AD usernames, but does not have any AD usernames that were created less than 10 months ago. I checked with my Network Admin, and virtually no settings in terms of creating AD users have changed in the last two years.
I don't know if this is a problem with settings on the AD side or the Mac side, but here's the Mac settings in Directory Access:
+Services: AD is checked+
+Authentication: Custom path selected, our domain is in the list+
+Contacts: Same as Authentication+
+Under AD:+
+Forest and Domain are correct, computer is bound correctly.+
+User Experience:+
+Create mobile account is not selected.+
+Force local home directory on startup is selected.+
+Use UNC path from AD... is selected, smb: is selected as Network protocol.+
+Default user shell is selected as '/bin/bash'+
+Mappings: Nothing selected.+
Administrative:
+Prefer this domain server is checked and correct for our network+
+Allow administration by is checked, domain admins and enterprise admins+
+Allow authentication from any domain in the forest is selected+
Is there anything in these settings that might cause the problem described above, or is the problem something else entirely, maybe on the AD side?
I'm also wondering if anyone knows how to find out where Directory Access is grabbing this list of users from. Perhaps our Network Admin can find out what the problem is given that info.
Thanks,
Gabe
Message was edited by: Gabe SteinI have exactly the same problem and ProtectHome wasn't the solution. "sudo minidlnad" works fine -- TV shows root and /home/blah/blah is accessible. However, I'm not able to make the daemon run as root. Just for testing purposes, I've made all the settings as loose as possible, but TV stills shows minidlna as username and the folder is not available (systemctl status reveals permission denied).
minidlna.service:
[Unit]
Description=minidlna server
After=network.target
[Service]
Type=simple
User=root
Group=root
ExecStart=/usr/bin/minidlnad -S
ProtectSystem=off
ProtectHome=off
PrivateDevices=on
NoNewPrivileges=off
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
minidlna.conf:
user=root
media_dir=/home/blah/blah
What am I missing here? No possibility to run minidlna as root after the last update any more?
Edit:
Never mind. During all this testing I had forgotten "User=minidlna" to /etc/systemd/system/minidlna.service.d/override.conf. Daemon as root works after removing that line.

Can't login to local NON-admin accounts-Directory Access set to server
I have a strange problem on a set of laptops that I cannot resolve and am hoping someone can help me.
Here is the issue:
I have a set of building laptops (PowerPC, OSX.4.11) that seemingly will not "search locally" in the authentication process. The logins seem to work fine for NETWORK logins to our Open Directory Master xserve, but these machines will not login to any LOCAL non-admin accounts. The local root and local admin account logins do, however, work fine. ?? The remainder of the building computers (Intel iMacs OSX.4.11) appear to have the exact same settings and login fine both locally and via the network home directories.
I have tried the following:
Deleted DirectoryService preferences folder (MacintoshHD-->Library-->Preferences->DirectoryService)
Deleted the mcx cache in Directory Access
Tried adding a new non-admin user to test (still will not login)
Removed and re-created LDAP configuration (all set to custom)
Tried setting the LDAP to the automatic settings ("Add DHCP-supplied LDAP servers to automatic search policies")
Disabled all network connectivity (turned off Airport and disconnected the ethernet cable), still cannot login to local accounts
Tried to bind in LDAP configuration (when I did bind the machine, it would no longer authenticate to the network authentication server, so I did an "unbind" and restarted and it went back to performing the network logins, but still will not login to local non-admin accounts).
Reset passwords in System Prefs and also re-typed them in NetInfo Manager
Deleted login keychains
Deleted mcx.plist
Reinstalled the OS from disk and local logins worked TEMPORARILY--UNTIL I set the LDAP directory access to authenticate to our server (which I also need for the network logins to work),then, the issue started again.
*Same results with both ethernet and wireless connectivity enabled.
*Note: I also manage these local accounts via WGM (installed on the local machine) and even tried disabling that and still no luck.
Please help...I have spent hours and hours trying to find a solution and nothing seems to work! What am I missing??Mostly just a bump...
How about that .local extension, or trailing / ? -
My head is spinning... Need help!
Background:
My Oracle apex 4 is running fine on 10g except that the CHARTS DON'T WORK. I've upgraded from apex 3 recently (which was working well) and replaced /i/ directory content with oracle_home\apex\images by using web folders pointing to http://my10gserver:8080/i/. I had errors while copying files and apex 4 did not work right away until after several attempts of redoing /i/. I still suspect that not everything got copied over to/i/ correctly being the reason for not working charts.
Problem:
Everywhere I look (Oracle docs or OTN) the instructions are to "xcopy /E /I APEX_HOME\apex\images ORACLE_HTTPSERVER_HOME\Apache\images". The problem is that I DON'T HAVE ...\Apache\ directory anywhere on the server, neither do I have marvel.conf file referenced in the same context.
I have apex 4 running on 10g on another machine and everything is OK there including charts but still no ...\Apache\, no marvel.conf...
Questions:
1. Why my apex/10G standard installation does not have \Apache\images directory (never had even when I was on apex 3) while working?
2. Do I really need to be concerned about having that directory at all if my apex is running just fine (including charts)?
3. ULTIMATE question. How do I upgrade my /i/ directory properly by following the instructions if I can't find ...\Apache\ and WebFolders approach does not seem to be working well.
THANK YOU!Hi gleb,
which web server do you use to host your APEX? Sounds like you are running APEX with EPG. If so, you looked into the wrong part of the installation manual. You should consider this section which describes how to upadte the images in your database:

Hi,
Has anyone tried using Apache Directory Server as a Data Source for Portal UME? We would like to try that out. If anyone has tried before I would like to get the data source configuration file. ALso would like to know more in detail about the positives and negatives.
Thanks for your help.

JNDI NIS object access problem
JNDI NIS object access problem:
Hi all,
After long fight, i'm now able to connect to my NIS server on my network. the initial context factory is 'com.sun.jndi.nis.NISCtxFactory' and provider url are given and i obtain namingennumeration of items in the NIS directory.
purpose of my project:
using ypcat command we can view the services,passwd,host... objects in unix.
my project requirement is that i shd open this 'services' object in java (using JNDI probably) and shd access its content.
i'm able to obtain the object and the type of this object is 'NISCtxServices' defined in 'com.sun.jndi.nis.NISCtxFactory' package, but all the classes and methods except some are not public and so im not able to use almost all the methods in this class 'NISCtxServices' .
Can any one help me in accessing the information inside this object.
Thanks in advance! and i'm waiting!It's because JFrame does not have a public progessbar variable, only your subclass has that.
//change this
JFrame frame = new ProgressBarDemo();
//to this

Directory access solution - please recommend.
In regards to the site
http://www.myhappypeople.com
I need a simple directory access solution (that hopefully
doesn't let people bookmark an accessed page and go back to it
without logging in again). All I want is for a client to click one
link, which prompts a login/password screen, and based on their
input directs them to a directory/page they are allowed to view.
The DW 8 manual doesn't seem to really tell me how to do
anything but rather sends me in circles on the elements I need
(databases, page with forms, etc).
I've looked into some free CGI scripts, that don't seem to be
easy to update/maintain.
Can anyone offer a suggestion. It's the last thing I need to
figure out to complete this site.Well, there's two ways of doing this: server level and app
level.
You can setup users in IIS and Apache and this will cause the
server to automatically prompt for login. However, this requires
access to the user database on the server and usually admin access
to set file permissions.
The way I prefer to handle it (and I'm not a security expert,
btw) it with a session cookie and an authenication script. I make a
file that checks to see if the session cookie for auth is set. If
not, it sends the user to a login page. I then include this file at
the top of every page I want to protect.
The login is then just a form that posts to a page the
verifies the password and sets the cookie. Now, this technique
isn't foolproof. If you're not using HTTPS, then you are sending
the password in clear text and it could be grabbed by a hacker.
But, for light security, it works pretty well and is easy to
deploy.
<?php
#fire up the session and see if user is logged in.
session_start();
if(isset($_SESSION["LOGGED_IN"]) &&
$_SESSION["LOGGED_IN"] == "TRUE"){
# Do something if needed. I connect to databases here.
}else{
#Redirect non-logged in request
header("location: /admin/login.php");

I am not able to change my startup items in system preferences, accounts menu. System preferences just freezes, and has to be shut down with force quit. This is only a problem when I log in through directory access. I guess it's not supposed to be that way. Anything I can to do avoid this bug?
