Apache for HTML and Tomacat for JSP

I have a linux system. I would want to use Apache as web server ( for HTML file ) and Tomcat as application server ( for JSP file ). I have my sites in dir /var/www/... and I have configurated Apache to "read" these sites... but when I insert a JSP file in these directories Tomcat doesn't work that file.
How I have to do that??

There is a file in $TOMCAT_HOME/conf directory named "server.xml". In this file you should put the following line codes:
<Context path="$APPLICATION_DIRECTORY"
docBase="webapps/$APPLICATION_DIRECTORY"
crossContext="false"
debug="0"
reloadable="true" >
</Context>
The APPLICATION_DIRECTORY is the same that you using in apache config file "httpd.conf".

  • Unable to compile class for JSP. apache-tomcat-6. What could be wrong?

    Hello, I am new to JSP and I am trying a very basic jsp and class file on Windows XP. I get the Unable to compile class for JSP.
    Steps that I have done:
    javac ch06_01.java , placed the ch06_01.class under
    C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\webapps\ch06\WEB-INF\classes
    Then grabbed the ch06_02.jsp and placed it under
    C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\webapps\ch06\
    When I run it (by placing this into Explorer or Firefox URL
    http://localhost:8080/ch06/ch06_02.jsp) I get the error further
    below. Things I have done and made sure they are in place are:
    set up JAVA_HOME to C:\Apps\jdk1.6.0_06
    Using CATALINA_BASE: C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16
    Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16
    Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\temp
    Using JRE_HOME: C:\Apps\jre1.6.0_06
    I did a google on the error and I found people saying to place the
    tools.jar from the jsk into the lib directory under CATALINA_HOME. But
    the examples still don't work. What step could I be missing? Your help is greatly

    I just updated the directories of the variables to reflect the current status of my system.

    What is wrong is that you are using an "old" jsp tutorial :-)
    Since Java 1.4, JSPs have been unable to access classes in the "default" package.
    What you need to do:
    Put the java class ch06_01 in a package.
    Steps to do this
    - Edit ch06_01 and add the following to the very top of the file (without the quotes): "package mypackage;"
    - create a folder "mypackage"
    - move ch06_01.java into that folder
    - compile that class (now in the mypackage package)
    - place ch06_01.class under C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\webapps\ch06\WEB-INF\classes\mypackage
    In your jsp:
    <%@ page import="mypackage.ch06_01" %>
    I would suggest using a more up-to-date tutorial that uses JSTL.
    Take a look at this [Apache Tomcat tutorial|http://www.coreservlets.com/Apache-Tomcat-Tutorial/index.html]

  • First use of jsp and java bean and "Unable to compile class for JSP" error

    Hi,
    I am trying to create my first jsp + java bean and I get a basic error (but I have no clue what it depends on exactly). Tomcat seems to cannot find my class file in the path. Maybe it is because I did not create a web.xml file. Did I forgot to put a line in my jsp file to import my bean?
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Here is my error:

    I only have this in my directory:

  • Html editor for jsp

    hello ppl,
    is there any html editors entirely written in jsp.
    i want to edit the content on weserver throught the editor.
    which should have the source code available.
    can u plz help me guys,
    thanks

    Do u think there exists any WYSIWYG HTML editor
    written in JSP?They may exist, but should perform very poorly in perspective to the existing ones which are written in a clientside language, e.g. JavaScript (FckEditor and so on).
    I don't even know what he actually mean?
    May be he's trying for WYSIWYG editor for HTML/JSP.No, I am certainly sure that he is asking for an WYSIWYG editor written in JSP. At least, he is asking that literally in the topicstart.

    Hi all,
    I have made a web application with JSPs. It seems to work fine with IE. However, with Mozilla and Firefox, it displays the HTML source generated by JSP instead of actually showing the HTML page for that source.
    I'm stumped because I haven't found any other msgs on forums with someone experiencing the same problem. Any help would be appreciated. I need to fix this urgently.

  • Java Swing/AWT and FX is so old school! Give me HTML and CSS for GUI!

    Dear Java,
    I am a seasoned programmer and I feel it's time JAVA implements a GUI system where it uses HTML and CSS for the GUI. For the love of god just look at the interfaces you can make using HTML and CSS alone. I am a big fan of Java Swing and the recent GUI designer for FX is quite cool. But they are just not as simple as HTML and CSS. And JavaFX has some interesting requirements for the graphics.
    I know it is possible to use JavaFX and implement the WebView/WebDriver and make it load a HTML page, etc... but why go through all the trouble?
    Just imagine... if you make Java where it has powerful back-end to do what it does best and the HTML/CSS powered GUI on the front-end. It will make the lives of many developers much much easier.
    I am not sure whether a Swing designed GUI will be faster than a HTML designed GUI... but if you look at a traditional browser and how fast it renders HTML/CSS, I am sure if Java had a native Form where it uses HTML and CSS to render the GUI, Java will make the dreams of many programmers a reality.
    Make it happen!!!!

  • HTML and CSS Best Practices for Eloqua?

    Hello Topliners Community,

    Thank you,

    Personally I like to upload my custom created html/css into Eloqua instead of using the WYSIWYG.
    But if you must then right clicking on text boxes and click edit source is the way to go.
    There was a good discussion on editing your forms with CSS:

    DW does provide tools to help with validation:

    I find it a bit more comfortable though to use teh W3 Validator and I always access that with the Firefox Browser and the Web Developer plug-in.  Another good plug in for FF is Firebug.

  • Support for HTML and CSS properties

    My biggest frustration with Acrobat Pro 9 is that it dropped support for certain HTML and/or CSS properties that were available in Acrobat Pro 8. In particular, the page-break-before attribute no longer works, nor does colspan. When I convert an HTML table with some colspans into a PDF, the table looks okay to the naked eye, but the structure behind the table (PDF tags) is incorrect.
    I can live without the page breaks, but I need colspan. I need to do this for hundreds of tables, so opening the Acrobat Table Editor and fixing the colspan by hand is not an option. A scripting/programming solution is required. Has anyone found a workaround? Does Acrobat X fix this problem?

    hello
    not trying to hijack the thread but needed some clarification
    your very short tutorial
    http://alt-web.blogspot.com/2012/11/primer-for-using-jquery-plug-ins.h tml
    was really informative. Just have a couple quick questions:
    you state:
    "the core code library which you ref in your <head> tags,"
    the below code just has to be declared ONCE at the beging in your head section, correct?
    <!-- jQuery latest core library from CDN-->
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js">
    </script>
    then any number of jquery plugin scripts can be placed in ANY order in your head section following the above code, correct?
    "the function code inside <script> tags to invoke the plug-in."
    so then in the body, does the functions code have to come RIGHT AFTER the place it is being used?
    example
    <body>
    <div class="slideshow1"
    </div>
    <!--Plug-In Function Code1-->
    <script type="text/javascript">
    </script>
    <div class="slideshow2"
    </div>
    <!--Plug-In Function Code2-->
    <script type="text/javascript">
    </script>
    </body>
    or can you take all the function codes and paste them in the end outside of the respective divs that are using the code?
    ie does the position of the code matter?\
    thanks guys

    a web designer?
    I'm reading "The Missing Manual" and HTML books. I've also
    been learning a lot from these forums... what to do and what not to
    do. I've started our new website with a blank HTML template in DW,
    though the more I read - the more I realize I am not informed. Like
    one of the Newsgroup Pros (Murray) on this site has indicated about
    his scheme for laying out a website, I now know that I need a
    layout plan for this website. Since I used to create databases, I
    know the questions to ask to layout the relational tables for the
    optimal result and making the front end easy enough for a Monkey to
    use. However, this is my first website ever and with a new
    employer. I've already loaded our products in the purchased
    shopping cart and I have a mock up for the website Home page. There
    will be an additional 6 webpages. Any suggestions are greatly
    appreciated.

    That's OK. You could also select Blank HTML, build your page,
    and then use
    FILE | Save As Template. Either path will get you a DW
    Template at the end.
    If you would be using server scripting on the child pages,
    then you would
    want to use FILE | New > whatever scripting model is
    appropriate, and then
    the latter method when you are ready to save the page as a
    Template (FILE |
    Save as Template....) so that DW can set the appropriate
    extension
    (*.dwt.php for a PHP template, for example).

    You would get this information by watching a typical user's
    screen.

    That's no help. You may be able to guess by evaluating the
    technical
    inclination of your typical user. People who are less familar
    with
    computers will likely not know that they can maximize their
    browser to fill
    the entire screen. You would also want to know how old the
    typical computer
    being used in your demographic is. Older computers tend to
    have smaller and
    lower resolution screens, therefore narrower browser
    viewports.

    Actually, I think the better choice would be fixed width and
    centered, but
    since that's my personal preference I'm likely biased.

  • How to set default encoding and charsets for jsp and servlets.

    Hi,
    Is there any possibility to set default encoding or charset for jsps and servlest (for both request and response)?
    For example in Weblogic such parameters can be set in weblogic specific configuration files (weblogic.xml).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I created one request with logo in the header an page in the footer etc. and called StyleSheet. After you can import this formats by each request.
    You can do this in compound layout.
    Regards,
    Stefan

  • For David Powers - Apache 2.2 and php 5.2. Virtual hosts

    Hi David,
    I have updated to the latest Apache and PHP
    Apache 2.2 and php 5.2. Must easier instal,
    But now I'm setting up Virtual hosts to make it easier to use
    php
    includes and DW templates.
    I have followed instructions on page 86 of above book, but I
    can't
    find the section NameVirtual Host on Apache's httpd.conf and
    it is
    much shorter than 950 lines.

    Many thanks David - I had found his revised tutorial on
    installing
    Apache - but I must have missed the bit on virtual hosts.
    That's great - I've not got all my sites working as virtual
    hosts (:-)
    Now to play with relative links / links to php include files
    in
    templates. !!!
    I'm going to try to get headers, footers and nav panels etc
    out of the
    main template(s), and do what Murray has been nagging
    everyone to do
    for ages.....
    I wasn't getting on well with that with before !! - standby
    for more
    questions.
    I had to read two of David's excellent books about three
    times - eh !.

  • Please recommend IDE for JSP and Beans

    Hi guys,
    I am looking for a decent IDE to work with JSP and Beans. I have tried JBuilder which has too much going on at the same time and I find it to be an overkill for what I am doing; I find NetBeans kind of irritating. I develop web applications, hence I dont need any GUI stuff for beans.
    Just looking for something that will enable me to rapidly develop beans as a support system for JSP pages and at the same time, it should provide good support for coding JSP pages. Little bit of management functions wont hurt either, but are not required. I dont mind if I have to pay for the IDE. Any recommendations?

    I like Eclipse for Java Development, and I use the MyEclipse plug-in for J2EE development.
    There is a free J2EE plug-in (Lomboz) but I'd much rather pay the $29.99/year for MyEclipse. It's been perfect for me.
