Apache Tomcat and eclipse for EP
Hi,
I have got anew book on SAP Enterprise protal by SAP Press.
There is also a CD which contains Portal development kit, eclipse 2.1, apache tomcat 3.3.1 and portal development kit plug-in for eclipse.
I don't have any SAP Access as if now.
Is it possible to learn SAP EP programming based on the softwares I have got on these CD and the book.
Tushar
Tushur, yes you can use that software to learn how to code JSPDynPage applications for the portal. This is how I started learning portal technology. I have since moved on to webdynpro. You might consider, as Srinivas suggested, download the Sneak Preview of WAS 6.40 java. This will give you a complete development envirnment, the NWDS, the portal, and the WAS to run it on. Next thing you now, you'll be writing webdynpro apps like the best of em.

I've just started to use java recently and now trying to develop SOAP web services. I've installed Eclipse and Eclipse Web Tools Platform (Eclipse WTP) as my IDE, and Apache Tomcat as my web container.
In order to develop java web services, I think I need Apache Axis which is basically a SOAP engine that parses java objects into SOAP messages. And included in Eclipse WTP are java web services tools built upon Apache Axis. Therefore I can start developing web services without installing Apache Axis for my Apache Tomcat.
The question here is when I need to deploy my web services in a real-world Apache Tomcat server (which also includes Apache Axis), what should I do?Hi,
All that you want to do is trying to call a web service and get the response from it, you can use the WSDLs from any weather or lets say google. From XI you can call it and you would get response in SOAP format.
If you want to create a web service, create a SOAP to RFC scenario in XI where RFC returns you some thing that you wanted in sync fashion. Now use the WSDL genrated from this scenario and import in XI for another scenario.. where it could be a HTTP to SOAP. Now you would get the response of RFC in SOAP format it self..

Remote Server Debugging with Tomcat and Eclipse
Hi ,
I am using Tomcat 4.0, Jdk1.3 and eclipse 2.1 ,Windows 2000
I am trying for past 5 days, Remote Server Debugging.
But I can't acheive.Please help in this tough situation.
I have configured Tomcat to run in debug mode by the following steps:
1) In catalina.bat, SET CATALINA_OPTS=-server -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=8000
2) Then I set the JAVA_HOME AND TOMCAT_HOME in the environment mode.
3) Then I clicked the startup.bat in the bin directory.
In Eclipse side , I followed as,
1) Run/Debug/Remote Java Application/New/
In the connect tab, I gave host:localhost and port:8000
2) Then I clicked Debug button.
I didn't use any plugin.
But it producing "Failed to connect to Remote VM.Connection refused."
So I gave host:localhost and port:8080 in eclipse side,
but this I am getting errorin eclipse side as "Failed to connect to Remote VM".In server side, I am getting error as,

If you have anwser, Please mail to [email protected]Well, once you're already using MyEclipse, I have it set up even simpler than that. Go to Window/Preferences/MyEclipse/Application Servers/Tomcat4/Launch and set the launch mode to debug.
This works if the project is successfully setup as a webproject in MyEclipse.
My problem is that I have a project that was not developed with MyEclipse and for some reason does not work when I set it up as a web project in MyEclipse. MyEclipse seem to do something funny with it when I establish the project. Now, if I set it up simply as a java project (as oppposed to Web Project) in myEclipse, then MyEclipse does not give me an option of deploying it.
Any ideas about how I would go about debugging a project that's not set up as a Web Project in my eclipse? -

Regards,
RamprasadDear vraptor,
I had seen ur jsp page , can i tell u one thing , never write a connection in the jsp page, why becoz the code can be seen.
ok here the problem is ur getting the username and password and putting an if condition inside the while loop so this throws an error.
anyway ur getting the values like
while (rs.next())
Username1 = rs.getString("Username");
Password1 = rs.getString("Password");
now the username and password are already retrived from server side, just do the check now outside the loop.
if (Password1 == Password2)
response.sendRedirect("home.jsp");
else
response.sendRedirect("sorry.jsp");
one more thing is check whether the page forwarding to correct page like response.sendRedirect("home.jsp");
see for the "/<directory Name>"/home.jsp if u keep all the jsp at one directory.
i mean this response.sendRedirect("/jspdirectory/home.jsp");
try this

Apache Tomcat and Authentication Control
Hi,
IIS has Basic Authentication to check for username and password.
Does anyone knows a way to set up and configures Apache Tomcat 4.1.XX to authenticate the user? I have the default web site: http://localhost:8080/test/servlet/com.test.HomeServlet and I want authenticate the user before they get to this page.
Note: http://localhost:8080/admin/login.jsp has the login page for the admin. Can I reuse this login page and using the same users database for my default web site?
Please help, Thanks!
-JohnHi,
After starting your server, hit the following URL in a browser window.
http://localhost:8080/tomcat-docs/realm-howto.html
This documentation will give you some idea how to authenticate users in Tomcat.

Setting up Apache Tomcat 4.0 for hosting a webpage
Hi, I am trying to setup an Apache Tomcat 4.0 web server for hosting on my computer through a verizon DSL connection, and a DI-604 router, and a program called no-ip (http://www.no-ip.com) that is supposed to allow you to host a web server from your home computer using dynamic ip addresses I can't seem to get it to work,
I can reach the server though http://localhost/
I can reach the server though http://127.0.0.1/
I can't reach the server though http://leeand00.servehttp.com/
which is the address IM supposed to access it though on no-ip.
When I ping leeand00.servehttp.com it returns 100% of the packets, I think it must have something to do with the ports, and I know I can't use port 80 because it's blocked by verizon.
Thanks in advance,
MaskkkkLike what I java application?
or a servlet/JSP web application?
I'm confused....
Hi,
localhost and 127.0.0.1 are basically the same. So
So try creating an application and connecting through
http://localhost/aplication_name
If this does not work, then you need to check your
ur configuration out, and most of this is done in the
conf/server.xml file

Apache Tomcat and Servlets configuration...
Hi there fellow Javites,
does anybody know how to configure the apache tomcat server xml file to enable you to use the "old servlet url technique"? I hear that its been disabled by default in newer versions Tomcat.
You know where you would previously type in: http://localhost:8080/servlet/folder1.servlets.TheServlet
,but now you have to tell your web.xml file where your servlet is so you now have to type in:
http://localhost:8080/TheServlet
That is, unless you enable the server config file to allow you to do both.
I hate to ask such questions but I really hate the Apache Tomcat documentation.
Thanks.Hi there,
well I was kinda hoping they'd be a shortcut to having to map the servlet in the web.xml file. In the older versions of the Apache tomcat you used to just be able to type in the url and the Servlet would be found.
Does anybody know how to enable the later versions of Apache Tomcat via the config file to use the old style of Servlet mapping?
I guess a more important question I should be asking also is, is this older style of mapping servlets now considered bad practice and is why it is no longer enabled by default in more recent Apache Tomcat versions???
Thank you, this community rocks! Keep up the Javite work guys, they'll never take us alive. NO LOL. :D -

Debug applet embedded in jsp using tomcat and eclipse
I am trying to debug applet embeded in jsp. I have deployed my application on tomcat.
The steps I followed
1. Added JVM rumtime parameters in Java plugin control panel
-Djava.compiler=NONE -Xnoagent -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=localhost:8000,suspend=n
2. Added JPDA_ADDRESS = localhost:8000 and JPDA_TRANSPORT=dt_socket to catlina.bat
3. I start my server from commandline prompt "catalina.bat JPDA start"
4.I have made a new configuration for remote debug in eclipse debug>new> connection type (socket attach) >port 8000
5. when I open my application url in browser browser closes and command prompt displays "*Debugger failed to attach , timeout before handshake*"
Any help on this ?
Thanks in advancePersonally, I have no knowledge about Applet but have you checked this link?

Debugging with Tomcat and Eclipse
I am using eclipse 3.0 and tomcat 5.5.9 .I am having problems getting this set up in debug mode .
When I run catalina.bat jpda start it looks like it is listening but when I run eclipse in debug mode I get the
following error .
:Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection refused.
I have set the following paremeters in catalina.bat
set JAVA_OPTS=-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_shmem,server=y,suspend=n,address=5000
also set up the following parameters as they have suggested in Tomcat .
set JPDA_TRANSPORT=dt_shmem
set JPDA_ADDRESS=5000
Any Ideas .Plz Try This
Set following var as
JPDA_TRANSPORT="dt_socket"
JPDA_ADDRESS="9800"
And for JPDA_ADDRESS u can use any number but in Eclipse while attching debugger
make sure Port must be same as JPDA_ADDRESS.
Also use proper Host .
I think it will work.
Thanking You
