APEX 4.0 SQL ERROR -ORA-00942

Hi, I'm new to APEX. I'm having some trouble getting the following which creates a view to execute. I keep getting the ora-00942 table or view does not exist when it reaches the code in bold. When i look at the objects in APEX and SQL Developer the table is right in front of me. Any insight as to why i'm getting this error?
select ctt.firstname
, ctt.lastname
, ctt.contact_type
, ads.address_type
, ads.address_line1
, ads.address_line2
, ads.postcode
, ads.city
, ads.state
, ads.country
, aac.default_yn
, ctt.id
, ads.id
from app_contacts ctt
, app_addresses ads
, app_ads_ctt aac
where aac.ctt_id = ctt.id
and aac.ads_id = ads.id
The code is from a new book by Packt Publishing "APEX 4.0 Cookbook" which i'm using to get up to speed on APEX 4.0. I don't want to take any shortcuts. I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks

Hi Ben,
Here is the complete statement and i've indicated in bold where the error occurs. The problem area is enclosed in asterisks when encapsulated by
create or replace view "APP_VW_CONTACTS" as
select ctt.firstname
, ctt.lastname
, ctt.contact_type
, ads.address_type
, ads.address_line1
, ads.address_line2
, ads.postcode
, ads.city
, ads.state
, ads.country
, aac.default_yn
, ctt.id
, ads.id
from app_contacts ctt
, app_addresses ads
, app_ads_ctt aac
where aac.ctt_id = ctt.id
and aac.ads_id = ads.id
This code generates the ora-00942 error (table or view does not exist)  in SQL Developer and ora-00957 (duplicate column name) in APEX SQL WORKSHOP.
Your code,SELECT * FROM user_tables WHERE LOWER(table_name) = 'app_ads_ctt';
returns i row with a status of 'VALID' in SQL WORKSHOP.

    Hi,
    I think you are executing the select statement for schema X and the table is in the schema srnr.
    And schema X is not having select privilege on the table 'students' present in schema srnr.
    Goto schema srnr.
    Execute the following statement:
    grant select on students to X;
    This will give schema X the privilege to query the table students present in srnr.

  • Dbms_sql  in a different schema from query table-error  ** ORA-00942

    Oracle Experts,
    I think I am having problems with using DBMS_SQL in which the function was created in one schema and the query table was created in a different schema.
    We have 2 schemas: S1, S2
    We have 2 tables:
    T1 in Schema S1
    T2 in Schema S2
    We have a function F1 created by DBA in schema S1 that uses the dbms_sql as:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION S1.F1(v1 in VARCHAR2) return NUMBER IS
    cursor1 INTEGER;
    BEGIN
    cursor1 := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
    dbms_sql.parse(cursor1, v1, dbms_sql.NATIVE);
    dbms_sql.close_cursor(cursor1);
    return (0);
    EXCEPTION
    when others then
    dbms_sql.close_cursor(cursor1);
    return (1) ;
    END;
    I am using jdeveloper 11G. We have an Oracle DB 11g.
    We have a java program which uses jdbc to talk to our Oracle DB.
    Basically, in my java program, I call function F1 to check if the query is valid.
    If it is, it returns 0. Otherwise, returns 1:
    oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement cstmt = (oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement) connection.prepareCall ("begin ? := S1.F1 (?); end;");
    cstmt.registerOutParameter (1, java.sql.Types.INTEGER);
    cstmt.setString(2, "Select * from S2.T2");
    cstmt.execute ();
    Since the table that I run the query is T2, created in different schema than F1 was created in, I have the error:
    ** ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    So my questions are these:
    - I am using Oracle DB 11g, if I run the query on a table that created in a different schema from the one that the function (which uses dbms_sql) was created in, I would get the error ORA-00942?
    - If I runs the query on table T1 in the same schema as the function F1, would I have the same problem(The reason I ask is I cannot create any table in schema S1 because the DBA has to do it; I am not a DBA)
    - This is not a problem, but a security feature because of SQL injection?
    - How to resolve this issue other than creating the table in the same schema as the function that utilizes DBMS_SQL?
    Regards,
    Binh

    Definer rights (default) stored objects run under owner's security domain and ignore role based privileges. So regardless what user you are logged in as, function S1.F1 always executes as user S1 and ignores user S1 roles. Therefore exeuting statement within S1.F1:
    Select * from S2.T2requires user S1 to have SELECT privilege on S2.T2 granted to S1 directly, not via role.

    Can you please check the following
    a. check the JNDI Configuration. ( check for the value used for XADatasourceName )
    b. check the Data source created for the User.

  • Error handling function: ORA-20001: get_dbms_sql_cursor error:ORA-00942: table or view does not exist  is not trapped. Why?

    Why APEX 4.1 Error handling function does not trap  the error of missing table?
    Say, I create simple application with single IR report page and I also assign standard simple error handling function.
    Function works perfectly, except but this case:
    If I just drop a table used by report page and then refresh the page I am getting usual APEX error message:
    ORA-20001: get_dbms_sql_cursor error ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    and error handling function is not invoked at all.

    Thanks!
    -MB

    Initially I would try calling the subscribe package standalone in SQL*plus or TOAD just to check its not somekind of config problem...
    The subscribing adapter trys calling the subscribing package passing in the message as an oracle data type.
    I would write a small pl/sql wrapper that calls you subscribing package outside of the runtime Interconnect environment. If this all works and you can insert data into the table then it maybe something to do with the metadata in the repository and then i'd go along with Ian's suggestion.
    But usually if you can successfully use iStudio to edi things then usually the repository is OK.
    Also from your log you can see that it has picked up the message and is trying to call the packaged/procedure so it looks like the adapter is working OK.
    Cheers Stuart.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist

    Hi all,
    I have an Oracle table called: USER_APP_VERSION with the fields (all String): (username, application_name, version).
    I use PreparedStatement to insert rows into table:
    String psInsertRpt = "INSERT INTO USER_APP_VERSION (username, application_name, version) VALUES (?, ?, ?)";
    rptPS = conn.prepareStatement(psInsertRpt);
    rptPS.setString(1, username);
    rptPS.setString(2, source);
    rptPS.setString(3, version);
    rptPS.executeUpdate(); At executeUpdate() line, I get the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    The table does exist, I can use the "INSERT INTO USER_APP_VERSION (username, application_name, version) VALUES ("name", "source", "version")";
    to insert rows into db at sql command line, however, when run the same query as part of my Java code, get the SQLException.
    Any idea? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the raply. I can connect to the db using a username and password, and run the query with no problem. I use the same username and password to make a jdbc connection from Java code. Since username and password are the same, does "permission" is still an issue? If yes, how can I solve it?

  • SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column

    Hi,
    I'm trying to understand the above error. It occurs when we are migrating data from one oracle database to another:
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column "USER_XYZ"."TAB_XYZ"."COL_XYZ" (actual: 10, maximum: 8)
    12899. 00000 - "value too large for column %s (actual: %s, maximum: %s)"
    *Cause:    An attempt was made to insert or update a column with a value
    which is too wide for the width of the destination column.
    The name of the column is given, along with the actual width
    of the value, and the maximum allowed width of the column.
    Note that widths are reported in characters if character length
    semantics are in effect for the column, otherwise widths are
    reported in bytes.
    *Action:   Examine the SQL statement for correctness.  Check source
    and destination column data types.
    Either make the destination column wider, or use a subset
    of the source column (i.e. use substring).
    The source database runs - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
    The target database runs - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    The source and target table are identical and the column definitions are exactly the same. The column we get the error on is of CHAR(8). To migrate the data we use either a dblink or oracle datapump, both result in the same error. The data in the column is a fixed length string of 8 characters.
    To resolve the error the column "COL_XYZ" gets widened by:
    alter table TAB_XYZ modify (COL_XYZ varchar2(10));
    -alter table TAB_XYZ succeeded.
    We now move the data from the source into the target table without problem and then run:
    select max(length(COL_XYZ)) from TAB_XYZ;
    -8
    So the maximal string length for this column is 8 characters. To reduce the column width back to its original 8, we then run:
    alter table TAB_XYZ modify (COL_XYZ varchar2(8));
    -Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-01441: cannot decrease column length because some value is too big
    01441. 00000 - "cannot decrease column length because some value is too big"
    *Cause:
    *Action:
    So we leave the column width at 10, but the curious thing is - once we have the data in the target table, we can then truncate the same table at source (ie. get rid of all the data) and move the data back in the original table (with COL_XYZ set at CHAR(8)) - without any issue.
    My guess the error has something to do with the storage on the target database, but I would like to understand why. If anybody has an idea or suggestion what to look for - much appreciated.
    Cheers.

    Use SQL Reference for datatype specification, length function, etc.

    how to pass my 10k record string

    insert into table
    select * from table(fn_split('2,4,2,5,7'));Do you understand what a string literal is? You cannot provide a varchar2 string that exceeds 4000 bytes from within SQL. Fact. It just cannot be done.
    If you are passing the string from a user interface using a datatype that supports more than 4000 bytes, and you pass it directly to PL/SQL code by calling the function or procedure directly (not using SQL) then you can use up to 32767 bytes for your VARCHAR2.
    The code you've posted (which happens to be some of my own code posted years ago on these forums) takes a VARCHAR2 as an input. You would have to change that to accept a CLOB datatype and work on the CLOB instead. However, you still wouldn't be able to pass in a string literal of more than 4000 bytes from SQL for it.
    Looking at your other thread: Seperate the string value
    ... it looks like the 'user' is trying to pass in a table definition. What is it your application is trying to do? Surely you are not trying to create a table at run time?
    So explain, what is the business issue you are trying to solve? We may be able to provide a better way of doing it.

    is there anyway of automatic other than trigger in this case.You can't COMMIT inside a trigger. Oracle issue an auto COMMIT before and after the execution of DDL. So you can't use DDL in trigger. You may get suggestion to use AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION to perform COMMIT within tirgger. But dont do that. Its wrong idea.
    I will suggest you look back into your requirement and see what exactly you want. You could schedule a job that runs on a daily basis that will pick up the object details from your table and drop them accordingly.

    Hi,
    Yes if I put it on the server it works.
    But if I put the file on the client in a shared folder and put the ip address as below:
    10.97.140.59\mydata
    it doesn't work.
    So it seems that this will work if the file is on the server and not on any client.
    If that be the case then it is a definite disadvantage.
    thanks for ur reply.

    Yes. If he wants the result to be sorted on product_code, he can do something like:
    select DISTINCT Det from (
    select product_code ||' ' || subproduct_code ||' '|| position_number as Det
    from alm_owner.wrr_recon_source)
    order by substr(product_code,1);This will atleast sort the first section of the result. For example,
    @raghu> select distinct det from (select empno ||' ' || ename ||' '|| sal Det from emp);
