APEX 4 Charts and SSL

Hi Forum
We are running APEX 4.0.1 on a Linux server, using the APEX listener and Apache (mod_jk).
When using SSL (https), we ran into a problem displaying charts.The error is "XML Parser failure".
Investigating the HTML code shows the following:
/i/flashchart/anychart_5/swf/OracleAnyChart.swf?XMLFile=http://<server name here>:443/apex/apex_util.flash?p=101:17:841359703279817:FLOW_FLASH_CHART5_R826355027361103270_da
Which means APEX is trying to callback the server on port 443.
When I try this in the browser, I get:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Reason: You're speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.
Instead use the HTTPS scheme to access this URL, please.
This makes sense, so how do I make APEX graphs use "https" instead og http (port 443) ?
Brgds
Martin Nielsen

Hi Martin,
are you using the most recent APEX Listener (1.0.2)? Because there was a bug in previous versions Does Apex_Listener resolve variable #HOST_PROTOCOL# correct in HTTPS?

  • Apex charts and IPad

    http://www.anychart.com/blog/2011/03/24/html5-version-of-anychart-coming-soon/
    They will release AnyChart HTML5 version.
    Is there any way to incorporate these charts into existing apex applications?
    Goal is simple: get charts working on IPad...

    By the way,
    Anychart will release HTML5 charts this month.
    So we can embed them into APEX.
    This is answer from their Director of Sales:
    Hello Alex,
    Not at this time.  We’ll be releasing our HTML5 charts later this month.  We are in discussions with Oracle about  including them as part of APEX but that would be some time away at this point.  However, once the HTML5 comes out, you could implement them into your APEX environment directly just like our other charts.

  • Charts, reverse proxy and SSL

    I have set up an APEX server running XE under Windows 2003. I upgraded it to APEX 3.0.1. I have an application almost completed that I now want to start testing remotely, and that I want to protect with SSL. So, I installed the Windows version of Apache, and got one of my network experts to help me install an SSL certificate. We used a reverse proxy method per non-Oracle documentation we dug up using Google. (I think one of my problems may be that I did not actually configure APEX to use an external web server -- read on.) Everything seems to be working fine except the flash charts, which generate an error message that "XML loading failed." There is a URL in the error message that starts: http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex... Clearly, when APEX generates an internal URL, it is not aware of the fact that the browser is remote and the reverse proxy is only working from the Apache server to the internal APEX server (and not the other direction). This may or may not be complicated by the fact that the URL's being proxied contain "https".
    I tried to configure APEX for an external web server per instructions in the APEX 3.1 Installation Guide. HOWEVER, per step 4.4.5, I cannot find "ORACLE_HTTPSERVER_HOME\Apache\modplsql\conf\dads.conf". In fact, there is NO apache directory anywhere (except for the one that I installed indepentdently of APEX). I had this problem prior to installing Apache myself, i.e there is no obvious place where the web server that comes with APEX is installed, and there is no DADS file. I searched the ENTIRE C: drive and there is no DADS file.
    You've already guessed that I have not been using APEX very long, and I am guessing that I probably have more than one problem. I have spent hours reading documentation, and have had a lot of success with APEX. This just went further than I know how to diagnose.
    Here are some of my questions, some of which I'm sure are related:
    - Where is dads.conf?
    - Where is the 3.0.1 web server?
    - What do I have to do to get APEX to generate the correct https URL's?
    - Is it possible to set up a reverse proxy from the APEX internal web server to the external Apache server?
    Oh... and P.S.: I installed the upgrade to APEX 3.1 in the hope that it would fix something. I spent a lot of time trying to follow every step precisely. The 3.1 installation acts the same way as 3.0.1 where everything that I have done except charts works fine.
    I will be incredibly gateful if someone can help me with this.

    Did you ever find a solution to this issue?

  • Chart and text items are not synchron

    hi all,
    i am a newbie in apex 4.0.
    i have two regions. the first shows a chart, based on pl/sql-code. second shows text items for possible filter an the current statement of the chart.
    when user clicks on a bar in the chart then
    1. i set the the first text item as filter,
    2. a pl/sql-code runs, build a sql statement, assign the sql statement string to the second text item and
    3. returns the statement for the chart.
    it works fine. the chart refresh. and the data i can see are correct.
    but the text items in the other region doesn't refresh.
    when i press "refresh"-button at browser level everything is fine. chart and text items fits together.
    what can I do to refresh all regions when the chart changes the sql-statment / User clicks?
    Is there any way to read out the current statement of a chart?
    thx in advance

    Bernd: the reason I asked about views is that you don't have any error messages. This might indicate that (a) you have no items in the view, or (b) there's something wrong with view-role-user assignment.
    To check for (a), please go to the published procurement catalog, and go to Views tab. Check that your View is Active. Click on your View ID link to display view details. You should see a list of characteristics assigned to your view in Assign Characteristics sub-tab (the list should not be blank!). Go to Assign Items sub-tab. Navigate in your schema to find items that are supposed to be assigned to your view. You should see "Yes" in the "Assigned" column for those products. If you don't, then you simply don't have any items in your view.
    Another thing I'd like you to check: when the user calls your procurement catalog for search, do you see the name of the catalog displayed just below the drop-down "Select Categories Hierarchically"?
    Cheers,

  • Customize Apex charts

    Hello,
    I'm an Oracle DBA thats slowly learning Apex. our company wants to use Apex for forms and various reports. I have absolutely no XML, Java, HTML or any such knowledge that would be usefule for webdesigners. i rely mostly on the settings Apex provides, but i'm learning a few tricks here and there.
    my question is, how to customize/edit charts? here are open issues:
    - i have a 3D stacked bar chart (flash chart). i want to be able to
    - add a line to this chart for the same data. the line can be a "trendline" or some fixed value. i saw a website (AnyChart) that offers this soultion, but have no idea how to incorporate this. in any case, i did some tests, and it didn't work.
    - changing the Legend: we want to be able to change the order of the legend, so that it fits the chart! seems like a simple thing, but Apex does not offer this. it shows the legend in reverse order to the chart.
    Also, the Legend seems to fix a capital letter to the first character of a word, the rest is small.
    ex: we want a legend definition "AA KCOO" and we get "Aa Kcoo". we define this in the SQL Query, but it doesn't accept this.
    i suppose all this can be changed in XML coding, but how, and more important, why? shouldn't a tool like this have that option of changing these things? the GUI tool seems so limited here. its nice that you can customize in XML, but i think these are missing options..
    can anyone help, or guide me to the right documentation?
    thanks,
    mike

    Hi Dimitri,
    thanks for the tip.
    first of all, getting the item in like you mentioned did not work. i tried with and without the single quotes
    without quotes (<line value=&P8_LINIE etc) gives me an "XML Error was malformed" message, and with the quotes (<line value='&P8_LINIE' etc) gives me a completely differnt number! it draws a line at the very top of the scale, fixed at 160 in my case.
    i did another tes, redoing the flash chart in a different region. exact same error, only this time, since i set my y- axis max value at 180, then the line was drawn at the top again - so it seems like the line is automatically drawn at the place where the chart value was defined for maximum...
    oh well, no idea where this comes from...
    as far as Anychart goes - i took a look at the website - it costs a fair bit for this newer version! for one developer license 500 USD, for 4 developers 1000 USD!
    my question is: will a future Apex have the newer version? would it make sense to buy this or should we wait until Apex 4.0 comes out?
    i have since discovered another thorny issue with Apex charts, but i will open a new thread for that. see my "remove marker from 2D Line flash chart" thread
    so far, i'm quite frustrated at the lack of modification options available to this GUI tool. perhaps in future versions, Apex graphs will be better...

  • How to use the d3.js library with Apex Charting

    Hello.
    I am using Apex 4.1.0 with Oracle 11gR2 and Oracle App Server (mod_plsql).
    I'm trying to incorporate the d3.js library (a visulaization framework) in my Apex charts but am not having much success.
    I found this article in which David Mann uses the library within an Apex 4.x application:
    http://ba6.us/d3js_application_express_basic_dynamic_action
    I replicated his exact steps in my own application but without success. I do not see how he was able to get his application to work. Indeed, the tutorial does not even use a dynamic action despite what the article title says.
    Has any one used the d3.js library with their Apex application. If so, would you be willing to share how you went about it?
    Thank you very much.

    Hello fac586.
    Thank you very much for responding/helping.
    In the article I referenced I did note David's statement about using a "modern" browser with d3.js (one that recognizes css3 syntax); otherwise, the framework will not respond. And so, I was careful to run my Apex application in IE9.x as well in Firefox 16.x. But all I see is an empty region with a title. No chart. Nothing.
    I suspect my one of my problems here is in getting the chart to refresh every "n" seconds. For this, I think the dynamic action would be used, though I'm not sure how to go about doing so.That's included in the sample code (line 99). Strangely Dynamic Actions don't seem to include a native timer event...however there is a plug-in.
    More problematic, though, is that I am not seeing any chart whatsoever in the region. I would have expected to see some chart data, even if it is not automagically refreshing.
    I've created my example in my EEG workspace on apex.oracle.com:
    Workspace: EEG
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: galaxy (note: all lowercase)
    Please see application 27083 called Elie_Goodies, page 25. This page has an associated tab called, appropriately enough, "d3.js Library". The Safari console showed a couple of JavaScript errors.
    1. The URL used to include the d3 code in the blog article:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://mbostock.github.com/d3/d3.js"></script>is returning HTML, not JavaScript. Changing it to that given on the d3js.org site:
    <script src="http://d3js.org/d3.v2.js"></script>includes the correct script.
    2. There was a syntax error in a script in the Run Code region. I think there was some kind of issue arising from copying from the blog article: it looked like line endings hadn't been respected as the code wasn't formatted properly. Pasting it from the blog into Coda's editor and then into the APEX Region Source text area fixed the format, and it then ran first time.
    Thanks for the heads-up. I'll also be looking further into d3.

  • Charts and dashboards

    Gurus,
    using APEX can we develop Charts and dashboards. if so can you help me find like/documentation regarding this?
    thanks

    Hi "user13319804"
    What version of APEX are you using? Since APEX 3.0, Flash chart support has been supported, using a third-party component from AnyChart: http://anychart.com/. With APEX 4.2, we've integrated AnyChart 6 which offers HTML5 chart support, as well as enhanced Flash charts. The AnyChart online documentation is pretty detailed, and I'd recommend taking at their User's Guide for further information on the various chart types that we expose through the APEX wizards. Please note that we only license a subset of the chart types that AnyChart offer, and users are only licensed to create chart types that we expose through the APEX wizards.
    I would also recommend reviewing the section Creating Charts in the APEX User's Guide - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/doc.42/e35125/bldapp_chrt.htm#CHDFEJAB - for information on creating charts. While it is possible to layout your pages in APEX as a dashboard, the AnyChart dashboard feature for creating a charts dashboard is not covered by our license.
    You might find it useful to step through the Building Charts, Gantts and Maps OBE, available here: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=44785:24:16898343576394::NO:24:P24_CONTENT_ID,P24_PREV_PAGE:4776,2.

    Siegwin

    Hi Siegwin,
    I've done some digging through the AnyChart documentation, and it looks like you need to look at setting a scale pattern for your Gantt chart. Take a look at the section called Date Time Scale Units Patterns in the AnyChart AnyGantt User's Guide, here: http://anychart.com/products/anygantt/docs/users-guide/timeline-scale.html?fromtree#date-time-patterns. I've updated one of my existing sample Gantt charts to apply a <weeks> pattern, which now displays the calendar week above each week - http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:50 - you'll need to zoom in on the timeline in order to see the weeks of course. To achieve this, I just updated the custom XML region:
    from
      <timeline>
        <plot line_height="30" item_height="15" item_padding="5" />
      </timeline>to
      <timeline>
        <plot line_height="30" item_height="15" item_padding="5" />
        <scale>
          <patterns>
            <weeks>
              <pattern>%e</pattern>
            </weeks>
          </patterns>
        </scale>
      </timeline>I would recommend that you review the AnyChart AnyGantt User's Guide (http://anychart.com/products/anygantt/docs/users-guide/index.html) and XML Reference (http://anychart.com/products/anygantt/docs/xmlReference/index.html) for any further customisations that you wish to apply to your chart, as they provide some very useful examples and associated XML code, which can prove very helpful.

  • Apex Charts custom XML integration

    Hi All,
    I found a chart in Anycharts.com and downloaded its XML.I wanted to integrate this chart with apex. But the XML,which i downloaded uses data from a .csv file. How to integrate this XML with apex. I found we can edit the default XML in the chart generated by. But How does XML take the values from the query which we write. There is only #DATA# at the end of the chart generated by apex and no clue on how and in what format this Data comes.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks,
    Ajay

    Ajay -
    Others may be able to explain this process better than I but I'll give it my best.
    The #DATA# tag that you see in the default custom xml for a chart is a substitution string. When your page is rendered, APEX runs the queries associated with your chart and then creates XML based on the chart type of the series. Next, it takes this XML that it generated and puts it in the chart custom XML where that #DATA# tag is located.
    There are other ways to get custom data into your chart. You can create the XML yourself in a page item and then insert the contents of that page item into the custom XML of the chart. This can be an advanced topic, but it really isn't too bad once you get the hang of it. The following link contains some pretty good examples of the things you can do. It even shows you how to format your SQL to obtain similar results. Custom XML generation is in the MISC tab. http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:1:2979429292819853::NO I am not responsible for putting this page together, another forum member is, and perhaps they will chime in.
    Hope this helps

  • Exporting apex chart to excel

    Not export as such however, if you are using Apex V4 you can right click on the flash charts and save as image.

  • Apex Chart with multiple y-axis

    Hi,
    I am using the build-in flash Apex chart which I understand to be a subset of the Anychart.
    I have the following problem, I have two series, which I am displaying in a 3D Bar Chart on a horizontal view with two Y-Axis. This works well, the problem is that each Y -Axis has a different scale. I am not setting the min or max value range for either of the y-axis as I do not know what this value range may be at the time of rendering the chart to the application user.
    So as it turns out, the left y-axis has a value range from zero to 100 and the right y-axis has a value range from zero to 50 and the application users are finding this difficult and confusing as they are only looking at the bars represented in the chart and assuming that as the two bars, i.e. one form each series look similar in size, they have the same value and this can not be further from the true, as one y-axis is showing a value range twice as big as the other y-axis.
    So my question is how do you customise the chart so that the value range on both y-axis is the same. i.e., the largest of the two?
    Application Express 4.0.2.00.07
    Thank you

    You can't get axis scale variables to work in the APEX declaritive GUI because it's not designed for that. You will have to switch to custom XML.
    Set everything you want -- that you can set -- because once you switch to XML, if you switch back I think you lose all those custom settings. Then when you set Custom to "Yes", drag the window widget to enlarge the window so you can edit more easily.
    Find the y_xis section of the XML.
            <axes>
              <y_axis >
                <scale   mode="Normal"    />

    <minor_grid enabled="True">
                  </minor_grid>
              </y_axis>You want to change the scale line between <y_axis>   </y_axis> to
    <scale mode="Normal"  maximum="100" minimum="0" />Or maybe it's just <scale maximum="100" minimum="0" />Except instead of constants, you want variables. I'm not sure you can use bind variable (:P7_YMAX, :P7_YMIN) you may have to use (#YMAX#, #YMIN#) variables.
    I would make a new page and experiment with some VERY simple data -- maybe constants in a SELECT -- SELECT ..., 1, 2, 3 from dual ...... until you get what works.
    And, again. This assumes you decide on some computation to compute the values of (:P7_YMAX, :P7_YMIN) or (#YMAX#, #YMIN#) you want it to use.

  • Flash chart and multiple Y-Axis

    Hi,
    I have to create a flash chart with a bar and a line graphic in 1 graphic output
    The left Y-axis should show the values of the bar (i.e. 0 - 20.000) and the right Y-axis should show the percetage value of the line graphic (0 - 100).
    How can I scale the different values and order it th left or right like EXCEL (APEX 4.1)
    Please help me
    Regards,
    Siegwin

    Hi Siegwin,
    thanks for providing access to your workspace. The reason that that second line is not behaving as you expect is because that series of the chart is not associated with the extra Y-Axis. As I mentioned in my previous posting, the extra Y-axis only gets associated with the second series of your chart. In your case, you're actually looking to associate series 2 and 4 with the extra Y-axis. In order to achieve that behaviour you could do one of the following:
    *1*. Hard-code the data in your custom XML region, ensuring you update the XML tags for the 4th series to look as follows:
    <series name="BX old failurre" type="Line" color="0xDBDC25" y_axis="extra_y_axis_1">instead of how it is currently generated for your chart on Page 1:
    <series name="BX old failurre" type="Line" color="0xDBDC25" >
    NOTE: the extra Y-axis will only be associated with the series where the attribute y_axis="extra_y_axis_1" is included.
    This option is not ideal, because you are hard-coding data in the chart, which won't be updated to reflect any changes to the underlying data.
    *2*. Split your chart out in to two separate charts instead of attempting to represent them on one, as done on Page 2 of your application. NOTE: the first chart is using some custom XML to set the maximum value of the extra series to 100.
    *3*. Generate your own <data> tags, to ensure that the extra Y-axis is associated with your selected series. This would require doing something similar to the Thresholds example here: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:35 - where you are basically overriding the #DATA# substitution string for your chart and replacing it with your own <data> tags.
    In a future release, we'll look at exposing options on the Chart Attributes page to allow for the setting of attributes specifically for the extra Y-Axis, and also allow for the specification of which series the extra Y-axis should be associated with. In the meantime, I think Option 2 above is your easiest option.

    Hilary

  • Scrollable APEX chart legends

    I'm using various apex charts for a dashboard application, and am utilizing the legend. However, on some of the charts, the dynamically generated legend has numerous items that exceed the height of the chart region. I noticed a scrollable tag in the xml, which would be ideal, but when I set it to yes it just displays a non-functioning scroll bar, and adding width and heighth parameters doesn't seem to change anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

  • APEX Listener and EPG - strange behaviour

    Hi
    For some years, I've used EPG for APEX but have struggled with performance particularly as I can have up to 150 student developers using at any one time.
    I do a fair amount of work using ORDImage and have successfully developed APEX applications to upload image files and display full-size and thumbnail images.
    After upgrading to APEX 4.1 (from 4.0), I decided to install APEX Listener standalone.
    Before I did so I checked that my applications still worked in 4.1 and they did.
    However, just installing APEX Listener but not configuring it (yet) has meant that my image display in a report using a procedure based on wpg_docload.download_file( l_ordimage_image.source.localData ) no longer works in EPG - the images are not displayed.
    Configuring APEX Listener and running the same application through that DOES display the images.
    So this part of the application works under APEX Listener but not under EPG.
    My application also allows users to upload images from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES using standard code. Under APEX Listener after uploading, I'm left with a blank page with a wwv_flow.accept URL although the image does indeed upload. Under EPG it works as expected and I get a success confirmation.
    So this part of the application works under EPG but not under APEX Listener.
    Has anyone else come across different behaviour depending on the mode of connection?
    Thanks

    Hi Brian,
    it sounds like you have both EPG and APEX Listener running on the same machine, so your problem might result from a port conflict. Note that both services use TCP port 8080 as default.
    At least a port conflict would explain the strange behaviour in your case, some things working on one web server and some on the other.
    Some parts of your initial post hint to that direction, e.g.
    However, just installing APEX Listener but not configuring it (yet) has meant that my image display in a report using a procedure based on >wpg_docload.download_file( l_ordimage_image.source.localData ) no longer works in EPG - the images are not displayed.... because the APEX Listener only interfere with the EPG if it is at least running on the same machine as your database and furthermore, if it is unconfigured in terms of ist database connection, a port conflict might be the only way it could cause anything like that.
    However, if you are sure that's not the issue, please check if you see any error in the APEX Listener's log for the following action you performed:
    My application also allows users to upload images from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES using standard code. Under APEX Listener after uploading, I'm left with a blank >page with a wwv_flow.accept URL although the image does indeed uploadIf you actually see just a blank screen, something very bad must have happened and you should see some kind of stack trace there.
    For further investigations, if necessary, it would be helpful to know how you deployed or started your APEX Listener and which JDK version you use.
    For the moment, I still think the port conflict is my best guess.
    You could avoid it by either changing the port for EPG (I'd not recommend that if you have other users still using it) or by changing the port for your APEX Listener.

  • Securing file download with standard web security and ssl

    Hi,
    I want to put some files for download in my webapp. At the same time, I want to protect these files using standard servlet security and ssl. So I added <security-constraint> in my web.xml and configured tomcat to allow SSL connection. Now I got the files protected as I expected. When I try to access the file directly from browser, tomcat shows me the login page. However, after correct login, I.E. pops up an error saying something like "Internet Explorer cannot download XXX from XXX. The file could not be written to the cache.". The log file showed the following exception:

    I've tried separating concerns, for example protect files but not require SSL, and enable SSL but do not protect files. Both works respectively but not together. I also tried using a download4j's DownloadServlet. Still doesn't work.
    Have any of you encouter the same situation? If so, could you enlight me what I did wrong? It maybe just a simple SSL configuration or something. Thanks in advance!
    Jack

    My environment setup is:
    JDK 1.5.01
    Tomcat 5.5.7
    For downloading files, I just use plain old <a href> method. I simply right-click the link and choose "save target as...".
    Thanks,
    Jack
