Apex Function API's and column aliases

Has anyone run into this? WHen I supply this simple query in a report page, the syntax is accepted:
select apex_item.text(1,c.claim_nbr)
from claim c, service_x m
where c.claim_nbr = m.claim_nbr
When I change it to this:
select apex_item.hidden(1,c.claim_nbr)
from claim c, service_x m
where c.claim_nbr = m.claim_nbr
I get this result:
1 error has occurred
query column #1 (APEX_ITEM.HIDDEN(1,C.CLAIM_NBR)) is invalid, use column alias

User,
What is your name?
I would have expected the error in both cases. Try:
apex_item.hidden(1,c.claim_nbr) AS column_aliasRegards,

• Database adapter and column aliases in the select statement (10.1.3.1)

Hi,
Is it possible to use column aliases in the select statement for a database adapter to return an xml element name which is different to the column in the queried table?
I have tried using
SELECT EMPLOYEE_ID, FIRST_NAME AS MYNAME, LAST_NAME, SALARY, DEPARTMENT_ID, PHONE_NUMBER, EMAIL, HIRE_DATE FROM HR.EMPLOYEES WHERE (DEPARTMENT_ID = #DEPT_ID)
but I get the following XML fragment returned
<Employees>
<employeeId>100</employeeId>
<firstName xsi:nil="true" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"/>
<lastName>King</lastName>
<salary>24000</salary>
Any pointers appreciated.
Joel.

That is really interesting.
When I use the "custom sql" option in the DB adapter wizard, it used the aliases just fine in the return schema.

• Column and table aliases

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you know how to do the following:
I have two tables (A & B).
The columns on these two tables are similar in name in some cases eg: name and visit. So for table A I created an alias such as tb1 and for table2 tb2.
This means now that my fields are referenced as: tb1.name and tb2.name.
Now, I've got that sql code in an INLINE VIEW. I want to now reference those inline columns, how do I do it?
I've got this as an example and would like to know if someone can shed some light on this:
select re.name,re.visit from (select tb1.name,tb2.name,tb1.visit from table1 tb1, table2 tb2 where some_criteria_here) re
where rownum <10;
Thanks for your help.
-J

Just give those two name columns aliases in the inline view:
select name1, name2, visit
from (select tb1.name name1, tb2.name name2, tb1.visit
from table1 tb1,
table2 tb2
where some_criteria_here)
where rownum < 10;I'm assuming there is an order by clause in that inline view that you are not showing here - that is the only reason you would need to use an inline view, otherwise it should just be:
select tb1.name name1, tb2.name name2, tb1.visit
from table1 tb1,
table2 tb2
where some_criteria_here
and rownum < 10;

• OBIEE UI Interface is missing prompt functionality and Column Selector

Hi,
OBIEE UI Interface is missing prompt functionality and Column Selector in Answers when creating a report. This problem occurs on all the reports. Also the problem occurs in firefox too. Could you please suggest me any suggestion to overcome this issue.
Thanks and Regards

May sound stupid, but do you have the Privileges to add these things to a report? These features can be turned on/off from the Privilege Administration Screen, for a group or user. Have a look.
Cheers,

• Apex Report Very Slow And Aborts

Hello All.
I am using Apex 2.2.1 and have created a report region in which I retrieve upto 1500 rows in a report. The underlying report query is a function returning a SELECT statement in which search criteria are made part of the SELECT only if the user has actually typed-in any values for the search criteria fields on the Apex region.
I also have a "Display" drop down list populated by a hard-coded LOV. Users can select the number of rows desired in the report by choosing one of: "10", "20",
"50", "100", "200", "500", "1000", "5000" from the drop down.
I've set the following fields in the "report Section":
"Report Template" set to Template: 10. Standard
"Show NULL Values as" set to empty
"Pagination Scheme" set to Row Ranges 1-15 16-30 in select list (with pagination)
"Display Position" set to Top and Botton - Left
"Number Of Rows" set to empty
"Number Of Rows (Item)" set to P13_ROWS - this is my Display select list
"Maximum Row Count" set to 5000
"Strip HTML" set to YES
The underlying query is not calling any PLSQL functions. It is basically a SELECT
from a view which is itself a join between two tables. One of these tables has
1500 rows (each row has 25 columns) while the other has 251000 rows. I am
selecting one column from this second table.
Both tables have indexes on the columns used as search criteria and both tables
and their indexes have been analyzed via DBMS_STATS on Oracle 10gR2. The
PARALLEL option is NOT enabled on any of these tables or indexes.
When I run the underlying query (that results from my report function) in SQLPLUS,
it returns all 1500 rows in under 2 seconds.
When I run the report in Apex (with out any search criteria), the following occurs.
When the Display drop down is set to "10", the report returns 10 rows within 1 second.
When Display = "50", the time takes about 3 seconds.
When Display = "200", it takes 10 seconds.
When Display = "500", the report "sits there" for over 30 seconds and then
literally aborts. The only error message I get is that the "operation could not
be completed". There is no ORA error message. I checked with our DBA
and there is nothing in the Oracle server Alert Log. I appended &p_trace=YES
to my report url and ran the resulting trace file through TKPROF. All looks good.
What is causing this report to abort and to take so terribly slow?
It appears to be somehow associated with the "Display" drop down list value,
but I'm puzzled as to why. As mentioned, the report query in SQLPLUS runs
to completion in under 2 seconds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Elie

Hi, Keith.
I tried the pagination scheme "Row Ranges X to Y (with next and previous links)".
This caused the same problem - my page aborts with the error message:
"Internet Explorer cannot open the Intenet site https://oraweb.slac.stanford.edu/apex/slacprod/f?p=116:13:439623456781::NO:::
Operation aborted"
I even removed pagination altogether and still got the same error.
Futhermore, it is sporadic. At times I invoke the report with 500 rows and it
displays without problem. And then, 5 seconds later, I run the re-run the report (again asking to display 500 rows), and it aborts.
This report worked without error (it was "slow", but worked) two weeks ago. But now, it is failing. My gut feeling is that my problem lies with out Oracle
Application Server. I have the feeling that our DBA's have changed some
sort of configuration (a buffer, perhaps) that is causing my problem. Not sure
about this. I guess I'm reaching for straws at this point.
Thanks for your help. It is appreciated.

• APEX function documentation

I'm new to APEX and finding that some functions aren't documented, such as wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.logout (used for the logout URL) and the JavaScript popUp2 function (just to name a couple that I've run across in my learning).
Reading other forum posts has convinced me that the wwv_flow functions should not be used directly and that documented API functions should be used instead. So for example, APEX_CUSTOM_AUTH.LOGOUT should be used instead of wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.logout.
APEX API - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/apirefs.32/e13369/toc.htm
So my question is, why is the JavaScript popUp2 function not listed in the JavaScript API and how many other functions aren't documented? Do I need to spend time looking through source files such as apex_3_1.js?

Thanks for the thorough explanation. So the APEX API and APEX JavaScript API really do contain all of the functions that developers like myself should be using (I wasn't missing anything). And even though I see undocumented functions referenced in the APEX generated code, APEX JavaScript files, APEX PL/SQL, APEX books, and this forum, I'm advised not to use these functions in my own code since these functions are internal to APEX and may not be supported in future releases of APEX.
Thanks again.

• Question regarding Dashboard and column prompt

My question regarding Dashboard and column prompt:
1) Dashboard prompt usually work with only for columns which are in subject area. In my report I've created some of the columns which are based on other columns. Like I've daysNumber column that is based on two other columns, as it calculates the difference of two dates. When I create dashboard prompt I can't find this column there. I need to make a prompt on this column.
2)For one of the column I've only two values 1 and 0. When I create prompt for this column, is it possible that in drop down list It shows 'Yes' for 1 and 'No' for 0 and still filter the request??

Hi Toony,...
I think there was another way of doing this...
In the dashboard prompt go to Show option > select SQL Results from dropdown.
There you need to write your Logical SQL like...
SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN PERIODS.YEAR ELSE difference of date functionality END FROM SubjectAreaName
Here.. Periods.Year is the column which is already exists in repository's presentation layer..
and difference of date functionality is the code or formula of column which you want to show in drop-down...
Also write the CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN PERIODS.YEAR ELSE difference of date functionality END code in fx of that prompt.
I think it helps you in doing this..
Just check and inform me if it works...

data with the number on the left and the fields going to the right. Is it
possible to switch a table in this way?
It sounds to me as though you wish to transpose a table so that the original is changed from rows to columns and from columns to rows, as in the following:
Table 1
A B C
========
1 o p q
2 r s t
3 u v w
Table 2
A B C
========
1 o r u
2 p s v
3 q t w
You are right - it would be nice to have a menu item to magically transpose a selected block of cells. But there isn't one. So...
One way to solve this is to use the index() and transpose() functions to accomplish row and column cell transposition. If you are going to use a 1:1 cell correspondence and change the header columns and rows also, you can use this:
=INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table # :: <range>),ROW(),COLUMN())
where Table # and <range> is substituted as in the following fashion:
=INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table 1 :: $A$1:$C$3),ROW(),COLUMN())
Create a second table. Copy the modified formula above with the appropriate substitutions, select the range you wish to have your transposition inserted into (must match the transposed cell dimensions of the original range), paste the forumula and voila! the cells will be transposed.
Cautions:
o The target table must match the swapped cell length and width dimension. For example, if the original data range is 6 columns wide by 4 rows deep, then the corresponding table or range to hold the transposition must be 4 columns wide by 6 rows deep.
o If your transposed data block is to be offset from the origin of the new table, then you will need to include a subtractive offset into your cell formula, since in the transpose() function the data in the master data range is referenced from its position with the master range, not its cell position in the table. Such an offset is necessary because this example formula uses the target row and column numbers to arrive at indexed positions.
For example, if the new data range is to be offset one column to the right and one row below from the target table's origin then you must subtract (-1) from the cell and from the column references in the formula:
Example:
=INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table 3 :: $B$2:$D$4),ROW()-1,COLUMN()-1)
If someone has a better solution I'd be glad to hear of it.

• Apex 3.1.2 - missing column in CSV output

Hi,
We recently moved our application to apex 3.1.2. There is a report with a CSV output that worked fine in apex 3.0.
With the same report in apex 3.1.2, one column is missing in the CSV file but is showing on the report. Show column is set to YES, include in export is set to YES and there is no condition in the column attributes.
Any idea what my cause this problem ?
Patrick

I've found the problem. In the print attributes of the report, the column that was missing in the csv file had a column width set to null. When I put 10 in that field (same as the other columns), it suddenly appears in the csv file.
If I set the column width back to null, the column dissapears again. This must come from the upgrade to apex 3.1.2.
To find columns that could have this problem, I suggest you take a look at APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_RPT_COLS.
+select *+
from apex_application_page_rpt_cols
where include_in_export = 'Yes'
and nvl(print_column_width,0) = 0

• Sql query slowness due to rank and columns with null values:

Sql query slowness due to rank and columns with null values:
I have the following table in database with around 10 millions records:
Declaration:
create table PropertyOwners (
[Key] int not null primary key,
PropertyKey int not null,
BoughtDate DateTime,
OwnerKey int null,
GroupKey int null

[Key] is primary key and combination of PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey and GroupKey is unique.

[PropertyKey] ASC,
[BoughtDate] DESC,
[OwnerKey] DESC,
[GroupKey] DESC
go
Description of the case:
For single BoughtDate one property can belong to multiple owners or single group, for single record there can either be OwnerKey or GroupKey but not both so one of them will be null for each record. I am trying to retrieve the data from the table using
following query for the OwnerKey. If there are same property rows for owners and group at the same time than the rows having OwnerKey with be preferred, that is why I am using "OwnerKey desc" in Rank function.
declare @ownerKey int = 40000

from PropertyOwners
) as result
where result.[Rank]=1 and result.[OwnerKey]=@ownerKey
It is taking 2-3 seconds to get the records which is too slow, similar time it is taking as I try to get the records using the GroupKey. But when I tried to get the records for the PropertyKey with the same query, it is executing in 10 milliseconds.
May be the slowness is due to as OwnerKey/GroupKey in the table can be null and sql server in unable to index it. I have also tried to use the Indexed view to pre ranked them but I can't use it in my query as Rank function is not supported in indexed
view.
Please note this table is updated once a day and using Sql Server 2008 R2. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

create table #result (PropertyKey int not null, BoughtDate datetime, OwnerKey int null, GroupKey int null, [Rank] int not null)Create index idx ON #result(OwnerKey ,rnk)

• Displaying the Row and Column number in the report

I am trying to show row and column number in the report (not just web preview). I am using Hyperion Reports Version 7.2.5.168

use a formula column/row. use RANK function in that. (e.g. Rank([A], asc) will sort the rows based on column A values in ascending order)
you can use this rank in your heading.
But frankly this is not so easy. You have to do it in a very intelligent way, so that rank gives you column number/row number any how.
Have a try and let see if you find a appropriate solution.

• Report with multiple dimensions in Row and Column with EvEXP

Hi
We are currently running BPC 7.0 SP3 and try to create the report(or schedule) with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column.
e.g.
row dimension : Outer row is Entity, Inner row is Account
column dimension : Outer column is Time, Inner row is Category
We created the report with 2 x 2 dimensions like above e.g. with EvEXP and EvNXP, NOT EvDRE
based on default dynamic template:Template13.xlt(Nested Row, 2 x 1 dimensions defined by EvEXP and EvNXP formula).
However, when expanding the dimension with double click these dimensions or change CV of the report with 2 x 2 dimensions defined by EvEXP and EvNXP formula,
error occurs on EvEXP and EvNXP formula and can't retrieve the result correctly.
[Question]
Can't we create the report with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column using EvEXP and EvNXP function ?
We understand that we can make the report with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column if using EvDRE.
Thank You in advance
Kenya

Thank you for your advice.
I understand that we should use EvDRE when creating the report with multiple dimension in the row/column because EvEXP have some erros, poor performance, etc.
Then, we have two questions.
1)
>plus they had some errors in the designs.
what kind of errors they have as an example?
2)
>If you must build the EVEXP and EVNXP, I would suggest building the template from scratch
We built the simple template with just 2 x 2 dimension from scratch.
But this report doesn't work well when double-click the dimension or changing CV...
Would you please check the following template?
<https://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=RCZE1ME4YSORY3DCDO4NNMANZLBL1L5ZBUOB2F71YVNVS8XDJW>
It would be greatly appreciated if you could give me your advice for the template.
Thank you again

• Advanced functions,UDF's and node function

Dear all,
Can you kindly let me know about Advanced functions,UDF's and node function.Differences and Uses.
Also Let me know about the advantages,Disadvantages of Graphical,XSLT,Java,ABAP and ABAP XSLT mappings.
Thanks,
Srini

Hi,
The term Mapping means:
1. The transformation process, and/or
2. The transformation rules.
Independently from XI, you can distinguish two different mappings
• Structure mappings transform entire message structures.
• Value mappings transform values within messages.
Mapping Programs to Map Messages :
Message Mapping
Designed by using the graphical mapping editor of Integration Builder
Result: Generated Java Code.
Imported Archives
Import externally defined mapping programs into repository
Java mapping:
Implemented by using a specific interface
XSLT mapping:
Runtime supports XSLT processor
Java methods can be called from within a Style Sheet
ABAP Mapping
You can execute mapping programs in a sequence
The exchange infrastructure supports three types of mappings:
Message mappings that can be designed using a graphical mapping editor in the Integration Builder. As a result, Java code is generated from the graphical representation that is compiled before it can be executed on the integration server.
You can implement your own Java mapping by implementing a specific interface of the mapping API.
You can implement an XSLT mapping
For the latter two, there is no tool support in XI. It is expected that they are developed using external development tools. To make them available for the integration server, they have to be imported into the integration repository as JAR
files before (JAR: Java Archives).
Developers can even decide to combine the different mapping technologies:
Message mappings, XSLT mappings and Java mappings can be combined in a sequence by means of an interface mapping.
XSLT mappings can use java functions
Message mappings support user-defined functions that can use imported java packages of the same namespace.
In SAP XI, there is 3 types of mappings. Namely
XSLT Mapping
Java Mapping
ABAP Mapping
Here is the details of each mapping.
XSLT Mappings (ABAP Engine)
Interface descriptions are in the form of XML documents. XSL Transformation (XSLT) is a member of the XML family of languages. It describes how an XML structure is transformed into another XML structure.
Customers can develop an XSLT mapping by using the Transformation Editor of the ABAP Workbench. Such XSLT mappings are executed at runtime on the ABAP Engine of the Integration Server.
To simplify matters, this section refers to XSLT mappings of the ABAP Engine as transformation programs to differentiate them from XSLT mappings from imported archives that are executed on the J2EE Engine.
Features
XPath and <xsl:include>
You can define mappings using XSLT together with XPath. XPath is also a specification of the XML family. Using XPath you can address any node in an XML document. XSLT implements XPath expressions to select substructures of an XML document. Using templates in XSLT you can define the mapping rules for the selected substructures.
You can use the XSLT tags <xsl:include> and <xsl:import> to include predefined templates for substructures in a complete mapping definition. In this way, you can reuse mappings for data types.
Java Mapping
You can implement mapping programs in Java. To process XML documents, use Java API for XML Processing (JAXP), for example. The JAXP supports the Document Object Model (DOM) and the Simple API for XML (SAX). This gives you great flexibility for mapping definitions with Java.
Implementation Considerations
Java mapping programs are not permitted to be stateful. You are therefore not permitted to perform actions such as writing data to a database table during a Java mapping. The Integration Server cannot track such side effects. Therefore, if an attempt is made to resend a message that has not been received by the receiver, the data may inadvertently be written to the database twice in a Java mapping.
If you use JRE classes in your Java mapping programs then the same program restrictions apply as for Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs). For a detailed description of these restrictions, see the relevant EJB specification. It is important that you also refer to the information under Scope of Functions in Runtime Environment (Java Mappings).
The runtime environment for Java mappings has an mapping API. To use Java mapping, you must define a Java class that implements the Java interface com.sap.aii.mapping.api.StreamTransformation. This interface has two methods:
● public void execute(java.io.InputStream in, java.io.OutputStream out)
At runtime, the Integration Engine calls this method to execute a mapping. This method contains an input stream for the source document and an output stream for the target document as parameters. These streams are usually XML documents. You can import the substructures to be converted from the input stream and output the converted target document in the output stream.
● public void setParameter(java.util.Map param)
The Integration Engine transfers parameters to the mapping program with this method. It evaluates these parameters at runtime in the method execute(). This enables you to control the process flow of the mapping.
The transferred object that implements the Java interface java.util.Map contains seven key/value pairs as parameters. These correspond to corresponding fields in the message header. Apart from the MAPPING_TRACE constant, the value objects are of type java.lang.String. The key objects are defined in the class com.sap.aii.mapping.api.StreamTransformationConstants
ABAP Mappings
ABAP mappings are mapping programs in ABAP objects that customers can implement using the ABAP Workbench.
Features
An ABAP mapping comprises an ABAP class that implements the interface IF_MAPPING in the package SAI_MAPPING.
Exception: CX_MAPPING_FAULT
Applications can decide themselves in the method EXECUTE how to import and change the source XML document. If you want to use the XSLT processor of SAP Web AS, you can use the ABAP Workbench to develop a stylesheet directly (see XSLT Mappings (ABAP Engine)) rather than using ABAP mappings.
Runtime Constants
In ABAP mapping you can read access message header fields. To do this, an object of type IF_MAPPING_PARAM is transferred to the EXECUTE method. The interface has constants for the names of the available parameters and a method GET, which returns the respective value for the parameter name. The constants are the same as in Java mappings, although the constant MAPPING_TRACE does not exist for ABAP mappings. Instead, the trace object is transferred directly using the parameter TRACE of the method IF_MAPPING~EXECUTE
Example: Accessing a Runtime Constant
Method IF_MAPPING~EXECUTE.
Get mapping constant SENDER_SERVICE
data: l_sender_service type string.
l_sender_service = param->get( IF_MAPPING_PARAM=>SENDER_SERVICE ).
ENDMETHOD.

• Navigation on row and column total in pivot report

Hi All,
I have created a pivot report with 2 dimension columns and one measure and defined row and column total. Now, users wants to have a navigation report on the row/column total so that once he clicks on total value, he can see the detail report. While doing this, he also wants to pass on the 2 dimension column values to detail report.
Is there any workaround for this?
Thanks in advance.

use a formula column/row. use RANK function in that. (e.g. Rank([A], asc) will sort the rows based on column A values in ascending order)
you can use this rank in your heading.
But frankly this is not so easy. You have to do it in a very intelligent way, so that rank gives you column number/row number any how.
Have a try and let see if you find a appropriate solution.

Rahul
