App and Website Development: CS5 Suite

I was planning on buying the CS5.5 Master Suite on the college discount, but I was trying to figure out if I actually need every program.
Pretty much I used up my Flash and Dreamweaver trial, and have been using my friends computer to get practice.
So my important question is whether the Web Premium Suite would suffice for (Android/iOS)App design/building and also Website design/building??
Also it isn't as important as those two, but I down the road here I wanted to make my own manga/comics and anime shorts.
The Web Suite has all the Flash, Photoshop and Dreamweaver, the ones i have used and sure that i need.
But the only thing missing out of the Web Suite is Premiere Pro(After Effects, Audition & Encore) and InDesign.
Pretty much I just need to know what programs will be needed for those kind of projects and which suite would accomindate me best.

I guess i figured that much, with any kind of video editing/making, it would make me wish i had the Master Suite.
I have exactly $1,400.
Master would take 975$ and intuos4 Small would be 225$.
I planned on a medium at $375, but if I get the medium, it would leave me with only $50, while the small would be $200.
Adding $450 to either total(medium($500) or small($650)) leaves open money for small things like financing a website, licenses, and peripherals.
If I don't start getting my anime going until this other stuff is rolling, I could wait 3 months when I get my next $1400 and get the production suite, if anime and video become an bigger interest.
I just didn't want to get the Web Suite and find out that I need Premiere Pro or InDesign for Web or App.

  • How to set up Print Specs and Profiles in CS5 Suite

I am no color management expert but I do want to get my printer to print the same colors as my monitor displays in PSD, AI and InD applications.
My Intel iMac and Cinema Display running OS10.5.8 are both color calibrated with Spyder 3 Elite to achieve correct color reproduction.
After days of searching and testing, this is my solution which I offer to help those new to CS5.
    1. Start: PHOTOSHOP:
Set colour settings (Edit>Color Settings) as follows:
              RGB - Adobe RGB 1998
CMYK - US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (This setting does not effect printer).
Leave Grey and Spot as default 20%
         Color Management Policys:
RGB, CMYK, Gray; all set to Preserve embedded Profiles
         Conversions Options:
              Engine - Adobe ACE
Intent - Relative colourimetric ( my choice for AI artwork. Choose Perceptual for photos in PSD).
Go to Save, give profile a name, and note the Conversion intent so you can create another profile for Perceptual and PSD.
(I called mine Epson R2400 and noted the Relative Colorimetric intent).
Finally, Go to Settings at the top of the Color Settings dialogue and select the color profile you have just named and saved. Click OK
    2. Go to Bridge>Edit>Creative Suite Color Settings. Find your saved profile and select it and click Apply.
Now AI and ID have the same colour preferences.
Users without Bridge will have to set these items in Color Settings for each Adobe application.
    3.   Photoshop>File>Print: Color Management
Color Handling - Photoshop Manages Color
Printer Profile - Choose the ICC Profile to suite your printer and paper stock. I used Epson canned ICC SPR2400 Premium Glossy with great results.
Rendering Intent - Relative Colorimetric for artwork or Perceptual for photos.
    4.  At top of Print dialogue box, select Printer (Epson Stylus Photo 2400 in my case).
         Below, Click and open Print Settings;
Layout - select  Paper Size and number of pages (copies). Layout is one of several items in a drop down menu.
Open the next drop down item, Color Matching. Check that he two options, Color Sync and Epson should be grayed out.
         Move to Print Settings.
Media Type - depends on your paper. (mine is Photo Quality InkJet).
Color - select Color or Black
Color Settings - OFF, This turns off color management in Epson Driver leaving Photoshop in charge!
Mode - I chose Advanced to get fine quality print. Automatic OK for general use.
Click Save. Click Print and you should get a print matching your Monitor.
    ILLUSTRATOR CS5
Bridge will ensure that Color Settings match Photoshop as 1. above. If you don’t have Bridge Go to Edit>Color Settings and specify the same as      Photoshop. Note Settings, at top of Color settings dialogue box requires the profile you created in Photoshop.
Go to File >Print. There are 3 steps to check.
In the  window at left are headings General, Marks and Bleed, Output, Graphics, Color Management, Advanced and Summary.
These are self explanatory. If you do not use Bridge, check Color Management as below:
    1. Printer: your printer. Color Handling: Let Illustrator determine colors. Printer Profile: select your monitor RGB icc profile.
Unlike Photoshop, do NOT use printer/paper ICC. Rendering intent: to suit your image.
    2. Bottom left of Print dialogue box is Page Setup. Set your size etc.
    3. Bottom Left is Printer. MOST IMPORTANT. Here are the similar setting options as PSD 4 above which require different handling.
Select Layout, go down to Color Matching>select COLORSYNC not Epson. This ensures Apple ColorSync does color conversion.
Profile - Automatic should appear with name of your preferred Printer/paper ICC below. ( be careful here as I have found AI sometimes finds the wrong      paper icc. Close Print and start again).
Move down list to Print Settings - Basic:
Page Set up - Standard; Media type - Your choice, (Photo Quality InkJet for me).
              Color - Color
Color Settings OFF to ensure Epson printer driver does not try to manage color.
Mode - Advanced if you want fine quality print. Automatic is OK for general use.
    4. Click Print to close Printer dialogue box. Click Print to close the Print dialogue box and you should get a print to match your on screen image.
    INDESIGN and General Comments.
Always select your Printer first as settings vary according to printer type.
InDesign Print set up is very similar to AI. Select Color Management at left and the Printer, Printer Profile and Rendering Intent require identical settings.
Go to bottom left, Page Setup. Specify Printer and paper size. Select Printer and the settings required are the same as AI.
If you switch between these apps there is considerable danger that the different Profile choices will trip you up. Photoshop color management requires the Printer/paper ICC, AI and InDesign require Monitor ICC. My primary error was to select my professionally scanned printer/paper ICC profile which resulted in weird colours on AI and ID. The clue that led me to choose my Monitor ICC profile instead was the ColorSync option in Color matching in AI. I hope you will find printing runs a lot smoother for you and I heartily invite better informed users than I, can add to, or qualify this post.
May the Force be with you!

Regarding print brightness at output. The Settings of monitor calibration determine white point and black point. At the time you run Spyder 3 or whatever your monitor calibrator is, the software sets a white point of your choosing. current iMacs are far too bright and prints resulting from unmodified Mac monitors will appear too dark because of the excessive screen brightness. My iMac at lowest reading is 139 candelas. To get prints which match the screen I specify 80 candelas. The Spyder software also reads ambient light in the room and makes a calculation which effects the white and black points registered for both viewing and printing. Since paper reflects a light level according to lighting conditions, we each view prints in different conditions according to illumination source. This effects also effects screen viewing so conditions determine what we see.
In simple terms, ambient light reading also modifies the software calculations for colour output. If it is too high, prints are pale, too low and prints are too dark. If the Monitor calibration has been done properly there should be no problem. The point here is to make certain your calibration process is accurate. Personally I have calibrated in a dark room at night-time and I have calibrated In a shaded room at midday. Hugely different conditions. Under both circumstances I have found the calibration has resulted in good prints. So I suspect it is user white point settings or calibration error which results in prints being too dark or too light. I understand the data used by the calibration software applies to the ambient light reading to the monitor for reading conditions and uses other color gamut data for the printing process. So printing error must surely originate with the user.
I welcome comment from more experienced people in this matter.
    Cheers,

  • What's the most appropriate Adobe app for creating interactive apps and websites?

I recently had a potential customer call wanting someone to create an interactive website for customers to use on an iPad in his lobby.  Ideally, I'd like to be able to incorporate cool animations, transitions and open video elements.  I have no idea what to use to create something like that, and looking at the Adobe apps, I'm more confused than ever.  A web search suggested InDesign could do it, but now it looks like Muse might be more appropriate...or maybe Edge Animate.
I'm guessing you Muse experts will have the right answer.  Time is limited, but I'm committed to learning this new skill so I want to focus on the right software.  Help?

Edge Animate would be a good choice to create animated and interactive content - http://html.adobe.com/edge/animate/.
You could then insert Edge Animate content directly into your Muse website. Take a look at this article - http://helpx.adobe.com/en/muse/tutorials/inserting-edge-content-muse-website.html.

  • Does iOS app and game development require additional cost?

I Want to develop iOS games and apps. I'm all alone to do that. I'm a One-Man-Developer. I can't hire a developer. I have money problems. I knew that I need a Mac And Developer Certification.
Develop a Story line 2D game, do I need to use more money? Why? Dose tye game engines need money?
TO create An app all by yourself on one Mac, do I need more money on the development, programming, coding and designing?

Nobody can give you an absolute answer.
But with the tools available with an Apple Developer paid account, all you need is your imagination and perseverance.  This stuff takes a tremendous amount of effort to learn if you haven't any prior programming experience, especially OOP.  Swift should make the process a little easier but even learning a language like Swift will require time and patience.
Only read enough to be able to get your first app up and running, no matter how simple.
Once you have a working app, save the source code in a safe place so you can copy it back if you need to later.
    Now, read and experiment.
Actually writing the code and testing is how you will learn most things.

  • Structuring Help for Many Apps and Agile Development

    Hi Guys
I am starting to evaluate RH9 (with server) and am lookign for seom advice on structuring help.
We produce a management information system, which comprises 17 apps.
We have major release versions: e.g. 4.9, 5.0 and then sub builds (e,g. 4.9.0.23)
Most sub builds contain new features that require documentation. We do agile dev, so we are producing new builds every few weeks. This means we can't just produce documentation for major releases (e.g. v4 and v5). This is waht we do right now, but it means it's always out of date
My initial project is to setup the master pages and css and import the Word manuals into RH and do any necessary cleanup. We will initially publish web help and "printed" (PDF) documentation from this, but eventually want to link into our applications (initially on the help menu and them adding context sensitive help).
So if a user is running 5.0.0.23 of Inventory Management and goes to the help menu, I want them to be able to get to the documentation for that specific build.
So, from a documentation point of view, how do I manage all of this?
Do I put it all under one project or one project per app or per major version or build? My main concern is that we can literraly have 100's of different builds in use by customers, so if we change the documentation for feature X, all users on relevent builds get the updated documentation.
We are keen to get user feedback and improve areas that require improvement, so let's say a user says the documentation for setting up warehouse locations is not very good. This feature has been around since version 1.0, so we want to update it's documentation and have it available to all current versions (4.x and 5.x). Is there a way to setup the documentation such that I can flag parts of it to specific versions. Using the above example, I want users on all versions and all builds to get the updated version; however, if we change the way locations are managed in 5.0.0.23, how do I ensure that everyone on 5.0.0.22 and below gets version A and everyone on 5.0.0.23 and above gets version B? Clearly, I don't want an entire project for each build (e.g. 5.0.0.23); otherwise, I'd have to make the smae update dozens of times if it's documentation on an existing feature .
One other thing to consider: related topics can be in other apps. For example in App 1, a related topic might be something in App 2.
    Any pointers greatfully appreciated
    Regards
    Mark

What you describe is similar to what we are doing currently, with a few notable exceptions. Two of us maintain a large number of online user's guides that are published both as Webhelp (25 projects merged into one parent help system) and as standalone .docx and .pdf files. We are also using Agile. Our company offers two or three major releases per year (2011.1, 2011.2, 2011.3) with one or two patch releases for each major release (2011.1.1, 2011.1.2, etc).
Our customers also use different versions--some are still on last year's release (possibly earlier), while others install the latest version as soon as it's available.
A few things you may want to consider:
    1. We've had limited success importing Word documents directly into Robohelp--the HTML invariably gets screwed up with a bunch of extra codes from Microsoft. We've found we have better control over the help files if we simply copy the Word text to Notepad and then copy and paste the stripped-down text to Robohelp, where we create topics, apply styles, insert hyperlink, and import images. This method of converting text from Word to RH takes longer initially, but seems to work better in the longer term, especially if the original document had nested lists or complex tables. FWIW, doing the conversion is relatively mindless work--the kind of task that is great to do at the end of a long week when your mind is numb from writing.
    2. The start pages for each of our 25 projects are linked to their corresponding modules in the software (users can click the Help icon or press F1 to see the online help for the module or to access the entire help system). However, we do not offer true context-sensitive help.
    3. We use the same source control system that is used by our software developers and check our Robohelp files into the same mainline code branch--this means that up-to-date documentation accompanies each release from mainline. Typically, we do not update the help files in our patch branches, since this would mean duplicate work (after updating the help in the patch branch, we'd have to make the same updates to the mainline branch). Instead, we use release notes to document any user interface or functional changes in patch releases. That said, the majority of our patch branches are for bug fixes, not enhancements, so they require only limited changes to the help.
    4. Our entire help system is automatically generated during our nightly software build using the RHCL batch command. When customers install a new release of our software, the latest help files are automatically written to their computers.
    5. After major releases only, we generate a revised Word/PDF file for each project and post those files on our customer support portal. Other than that, we make no attempt to provide improved documentation to customers who are using downlevel software. That is, if we need to rewrite the basic instructions for some task, we update the mainline branch for use with the next software release and all subsequent releases. I guess we figure that if our customers are interested in the latest and greatest instructions, they should spring for the cost of a software upgrade.

  • How do I go back into my registry and change a number for loading apps and websites from 20 back to ten?

I tried something suggested from a friend who said to go to a spot in my registry and change a number from 10 to 20, and this would help apps to load better, giving them more time. But now nothing will load because there is to much time taken. I need to find that segment of the registry and change the number back. When I went there, a little box popped up and said, "I will be careful I promise. "

I did the resetting preferences, still no help, still cannot play flash games on facebook like Indiana Jones, Cityville, and Pioneerville. I wish I could go back and change that number I changed from 20 back to 10. I would be playing right now.

  • Watching BT Sport on TV via Laptop App and S-Video...

I am trying to help my 82 year old father and I posted a question on what was required to watch BT Sport on the Box in the other forum and I now understand that as well as signing up to BT Broadband we also need BT TV and a Youview box.
    Or do we?
Could  we not just use the S-video out socket on the lap top to connect to the scart on the TV ( he has an old but excellent Sony Trinitron TV). One of these would be required:-
MHP 15m PC / Laptop to TV Video Kit 3 Piece - SCART Adapter / S-Video Cable / 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Cable
Has anyone tried this combination? Will the picture quality be less good then connection via Youview+, ethernet cable and BT HomeHub?

Full programmes are available to watch via the 'Video' sections of the app and website.
However, not all programmes are available for on demand catch up. Please see the guidance here

My system is OS X 10.6.3, good clean 10 month install, running on 2008 Mac Pro 8 core
I also have CS3 suite installed,  all apps are OK
Very disappointed with the CS 5,
Does any one have any ideas, with three apps that have errors, I did try to set the CS5 settings folder with my permissions. Below is a link I found on this site , however it did not work
Navigate to /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings
    Select that file File>Get Info
At the very bottom under permissions, hit the + icon.
Add your user name from the list that pops up.
    Highlight the user just added.
Click the gear icon to the right of the +/-
    Choose make owner.
Click the gear icon again and choose apply to folder contents.
    Open Photoshop.

I was able to fix this stupidity by deleting the following:
    Quit Photoshop.
Goto your home - assume you're home is named john.
john/Library/Preferences and delete a folder named: "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings"
Launch Photoshop again and make a change to preferences.
Quit.  It should not give that error again.
You will see a new folder there with the same name, but this time, it's OK.  Also notice inside are now 10 items.
The one you trashed is empty, because the difference is that the permissions on the original folder are showing:
    Old one:

    The new one will be:

  • I am trying to uninstall and then reinstall the suite. The uninstall app Adobe says to use, however, is nowhere to be found.

As part of my effort to get cs6 (especially InDesign) to work flawlessly in Yosemite on my iMac, I am trying to uninstall and then reinstall the suite. The uninstall app Adobe says to use, however, is nowhere to be found. Not in Applications, not in Utilities, not in a search. Any advice?

    Hello Jimmy,
in this case I would download a really new trial version of your program(s) in question and change it/them into a "real" version later and it would be necessary that you have to use "Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool".
Here an advice for that (The order varies depending on your individual needs. Please read all my proposals first, so you can better choose the first step:)
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html
    2. Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"? Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
I quote: Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite (CS3-CS6) applications. The tool removes installation records for prerelease installations of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications. It does not affect existing installations of previous versions of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications.
Please use: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html   and follow the prescribed sequence of operations
    4. If necessary and for further questions click through http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.htl and if "open" please use the chat, I had the best experiences. I quote from Adobe's employee Preran: The chat button is activated as soon as there is an agent available to help.

    Hello Jonnny.
I use the same software as you, and have the same thoughts and issues, and have been searching the internet and Adobe forums for similar answers and questions. Many people are having issues and most are saying if you are running older versions of CS, (I don't think CS5 is that old!) then a Java update is needed and easily downloaded from the Apple website. Personally I will wait another 2 weeks or so before deciding, but I may just keep my Mavericks, the last time I upgraded it caused me countless hours of downloading and reinstalling software again, one of Apples pieces of software I enjoyed using was iDVD which is no longer supported and just about got it too work again on Mavericks, but not sure if it will work on Yosemite.

  • Can compile iphone apps on both the mac and pc with cs5?

im assuming yes,for both mac and pc versions, but if thats the case, why does apple force people to use mac's (w/ objective c) to have your app in the app store? and why doesnt cs5 have this restriction?

Even if you are part of Apple Development Program already, and you are on a PC...how do you correctly create the Certificate?
When you try to generate one Development Provisioning Assistant, everything is geared towards Apple computers.
    From the Apple Site:
    Generate a Certificate Signing Request
To request an iPhone Development Certificate, you first need to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) utilizing the Keychain Access application in Mac OS X Leopard.
    Launch Keychain Access
In the Applications folder on your Mac, open the Utilities folder and launch Keychain Access.
Within the Keychain Access drop down menu, select Keychain Access > Certificate Assistant > Request a Certificate from a Certificate Authority
In the Certificate Information window, enter the following information:
In the User Email Address field, enter your email address
In the Common Name field, create a name for your private key
    (eg. John Doe Dev Key)
In the Request is group, select the "Saved to disk" option
Click Continue within Keychain Access to complete the CSR generating process
