Apple Care iPhone Replacement Quality Question

For the people here who have gotten their iphones replaced thru apple care for whatever issue it may have been, did the replacement unit contain any defects (cosmetic, dead pixels, dust, "bad" screen) or was the replacement unit sent 100% defect free? I am asking because I am wondering whether the replacement phones that apple sends are troubleshooted and screened more extensively that the ones sold in stores. Although obviously the same phone, I could see that it would be against Apple's financial interest to send the customer a phone with some new defects only to have that unit returned again.

Not sure about apple care replacements. Since the iphone is still so new they may just send out new ones instead of refurbs because they don't have any yet. I got mine replaced at an apple store one time and they brought out a brand new one and I watched as the apple guy tore off the wrap and opened it for the first time. The guy also said that apple was collecting defective units or damaged ones to study.
What was your issue with sending it in?

    We took my daughters broken iphone 4 into an apple store and was told that the damage was not covered under warrany but for only £120 we could get a replacement iphone 4
    the problem being when they helped her set  up the replacement Iphone 4 they installed os7 as the opperating system rendering the phone useless as it now runs slow, freezes & cannot use messaging at all etc
    we went back to the store hoping they could HELP  &  were told that the iphone should not have these problems & to do a full restore; as it turns out the processing chip cant handle os7 which becomes Very apparent & now the store staff are suggesting that they will upgrade the phone to something newer & give us a £60 discout towards a new phone for something we paid them £120 48hr earlier.
    Its not the Apple experience we have all come to love can anyone suggest how we might restore the phone to an earlier opperating system

    That's nonsense. I have 2 iPhone fours and both work just fine with iOS 7. As mentioned take ti back.

    nope. Maybe your home owner's insurance. Or cellular providers sometimes offer insurance, you'd have been paying a monthly fee for that.

    Basically I dropped my iPhone 5s after about a week of having it and its left a nasty dent in the bottom of the phone just below the screen, do any of you guys know if Apple care covers this and will replace it or any other methods where I could possibly get the phone replaced or the phone fixed? many thanks

    AppleCare+ (note the plus) will allow a replacement for $49 (maximum 2 events withn 2 years).
    Basic AppleCare does not cover accidents.  You would need to buy an out-of-warranty replacement for about 1/2 the cost of a new  phone at the store.

    Sorry, but Apple does not appear to be offering AppleCare for the iPhone in Peru, and you cannot purchase and use an AppleCare plan sold in a different country since your iPhone is supported only in Peru. If you want extended warranty and insurance, you'll need to find out what Movistar offers, if anything.

    I agree with you.  I think it stinks that the warranty doesn't have an option to cover lost/stolen (with deductible).  I'd rather get an apple replacement than whatever kind you get with the Asurion program or other non-apple programs. 
    That's one of the reasons I've gone with the AppleCare + on my iPhone 4s and my wife's new iPad.  I probably reach down and touch my phone in my pocket about every 2-4 minutes.  The chances of me 100% losing it are very slim.  I'm at work in a secured building (only those with a PED can get in) with cameras all over the place.  I don't think I have to worry much about theft at work. 
    So I figure with the above being said, I am much more likely to break something myself (which I'm actually finding I'm NOT very likely to do so.  Commuter case and I'm very careful) or have something go bad than to have it be lost/stolen.  I also figured I'd rather get an Apple replacement and/or have to deal directly with Apple than some 3rd party.
    I could very well be wrong and wouldn't mind being educated if there's a better route for me.
    Incidentally, I did check into putting the iPhone on a homeowners insurance that would protect against fire/theft.  I don't think it covered loss however. 
    (now watch, I'll lose my phone or get held up at gunpoint.... dang it!)

    I have a question about the new replacement program of the iPod nano 1st gen.
    The program doesn't state whether or not you get a refund or a new iPod nano (the small squared once with touch screen).
    The program says that you'll get a replacement iPod Nano, but isn't very specific if it is the new generation.

    I can say it is not a scam - Apple is definitely replacing the iPods.  Once I read the article and went to apple.com, that proved it.  Apple.com would never risk another class action lawsuit over this iPod.
    My First Generation iPod was given to me at work for being the winner of a give-away drawing and about a year or so ago it overheated and erased all the info on the iPod.  Now it will only charge and drain the battery.  It no longer allows me to store any thing on it.
    I am glad that Apple is doing this exchange.  I thought I was just out of luck and was glad I had not paid full price for it.  I love my Nano and used it constantly!!!
    Just send your's in using the box and label they send you and give them 6 weeks like the apple.com website says, Apple will make good on their product.  Millions of people don't stand in line and wait weeks/months for their new products to arrive for no reason, trust me.  Oh, by the way, I know this for sure.....I work for a wireless phone service that has been dealing with Apple for Yearsssssssssssss.....and every year the same thing.  People will give anything to get a product with that apple on it.

  • Apple's iPhone replacement policy? Need some answers plz.

    I'm eventually going to trade in my black iPhone 4 for a replacement at the Apple Store (I am willing to wait right up before my warranty ends since its not a major issue for the time being).
    Hypothetically speaking lets suppose the white iPhone 4 comes out, will i be able to trade my defective black unit for a white one. A comparable situation would be exchanging a defective black iPhone 3GS for a white one or visa versa.
    Would policy permet such an exchange?

    In a word, no.
    An exchange under warranty will be the same model and color.
    How do you know for certain whatever the problem is requires an exchange under warranty? Whatever the problem is can't be resolved by any other means? I wouldn't wait until just before your warranty expires if your iPhone has a problem that cannot be resolved by any other means besides an exchange under warranty. You drop the iPhone causing any damage and no exchange under warranty. If any of the moisture indicators are tripped between now and then, no exchange under warranty.

    It's Apple's warranty. It has to be done through them, not AT&T. If it is AppleCare Plus, you get a replacement phone for $49. If it is regular AppleCare (not Plus), then you have to pay the full out of warranty price as accidental damage is not covered. iPhone 5 is $299, iPhone 4S is $199, earlier models are $149.

  • Does Apple Care cover battery replacements?

    My battery has been having problems, like not holding charge as long as it used to and the battery percentage sometimes freezes. I asked about it before and I was told the battery in my Macbook Pro only goes up to 1000 cycles and I'm at 937, so my battery is seeing its end soon.  I've had this macbook since January 2013. I have been reading the Apple Care information and I can't find where exactly it addresses this issue. Does Apple Care cover battery replacements for cycle counts like this?
    PS. I'm learning more that Apple Care doesn't really cover anything. The more I read, the more I feel like I wasted my $250 on it to be honest. I don't see anything Apple Care truly covers unless it's a problem when you first get your laptop that manufacturers did. I'll probably will be moving back to Microsoft after this Macbook goes. Half the price and longer lasting without any protection/insurance.

    Since the battery is beyond one year of use, it's doubtful Apple Care will replace the battery for free.

  • Anybody have experience of service after guarantee/Apple care expired.

    I am plaining to get a MacBook Pro, but what afraid me is that if the Apple care/guarantee has expired, as I have an experience with my iPhone of being refereed to a third party service center. That was not a good experience one, as they didn't do a proper job to my iPhone.

    Yes! i have had my screen replaced 3 times,just before the warranty ran out,and i knew that it would happen again, (even has i am typing this out its happening again) I was given no choice but to buy this Apple Care Plan. My question is what happens after 3yrs. In my country England you just keep on paying the insurance every year. If you do not have any insurance, Say, on a washing machine you call the guys out to fix it, they tell you the price before they begin. You are better off buying a new washer, because of the price they charge. I know for definate after 3yrs thats it,and say if you had to get your screen replaced it would cost you £400 plus carriage,and that comes to about £500. You might as well buy a new computer. Unless anybody can come up with a better answer to this i would love to know.

    AppleCare cannot be renewed or extended. You can purchase AppleCare, if you purchase an iPhone 5. As far as any discount goes, not from Apple, so contact your carrier.

  • I could not get my iPhone 5 which purchased in Australia repaired by apple in the US. Guys from apple retail store verified a replacement for me and asked to call apple care. However, apple care said they cannot get it fixed nor repaired.

    My iPhone 5 got some defects and I went to a apple reatil store yesterday. The guy from the genius bar told me that he verified a replacement for me. And I need to call 1-800-apple care to finish that process. I called apple care and one of the senior supervisors told me that I have to send it back to Australia (where I bought this iPhone) to get it repaired. Turns out I could not solve the problem after a apple store vist and several calls. I just want to know if there any way to solve this. This iPhone is a factory unlocked one that purchased in an apple retail store in Melbourne at the day it was first released. And my experience today is not what I can tell as fair. I will be really appreciate for any helps and advices. Thanks.

    Warranty on iPhone is not international, but valid only in country of
    original sale. Since you purchased the iPhone in Australia, your warranty
    is valid only in Australia. You must either personally return the iPhone
    to Australia for evaluation and possible replacement or sent it to someone
    in Australia to take into Apple for the evaluation. Apple will not accept
    international shipments for repair nor will Apple ship out of the country
    after replacement.
    Sorry to be the bearer of this news, but it is the way iPhone warranty and
    replacement has always worked.

    its just not fair. apple should at least make sure its stolen. apple care should cover theft. now i know the reason they wont replace apple products, because someone could easily say their iphone got stolen and didnt even have a phone in the firt place. Thats understandable but cant they check my records? ANYTHING! Check with my provider. Cspire knows my phone has been stolen for over a month.     It's a good idea to check the terms of your insurance first. Some companies will raise your rates as soon as you make any kind of claim, no matter how small, and the deductible may be so high that making a claim is not worthwhile.
    Sorry for the loss of your phone. It's a huge pain, I know.
