Apple Configurator VPP "app not authorized" error

Hi, I’m new to using Apple Configurator and VPP licensing for setting up iPads for our business. In a nut shell I had several free apps and a couple VPP apps imported and deployed to several iPads with no problems. Everything seemed to be working great until I went to import some additional apps from my iTunes folder and accidently re-imported the entire folder. Once the entire folder was import “overriding all the existing apps and VPP apps” I could no longer re-deploy any of the VPP apps to the iPads –I am getting an “app not authorized” error for only the VPP apps. I then tried to remove and re-import all the apps, re-import the VPP licenses, check-in and check-out the iPads, deleted and re-downloaded apps under iTunes, etc. (just about every troubleshooting combination) with no luck.
Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The database in which Apple Configurator records the use of redemption codes is your only record of the valid use of those codes. Be sure to maintain a backup of the Mac on which you use Apple Configurator.
If you lose the Apple Configurator database, your users will retain rights to use the apps already installed on devices, and you can reimport any spreadsheets to install additional apps on devices using unredeemed codes. But if an app is deleted from a device after you lose the database, Apple Configurator will be unable to determine the device’s rights to that app, and you will need to redeem another code in order to reinstall the app.

Apple configurator and App not authorized

Today was my first day putting paid apps in. I have 4 different paid apps, and 3 codes through VPP for each of the apps.

+1 for what bcpoole said. Redownload the spreadsheet and reimport into Configurator.
Also you need to be sure to authorize iTunes on the sync computer with the same Apple ID that you are using in Configurator. Here's how I've been doing it using Apple Configurator 1.1.2.
First, go into iTunes and authorize with an Apple ID (Store -> Authroize this computer). Download the app(s). They will go to ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications. Then go into Apple Configurator and add the apps on the Prepare -> Apps screen. When you try to add the app in AC (clicking on the "+" at the bottom of the screen), you should be prompted to enter an Apple ID and password. Use the same Apple ID and password that you used to download the app in iTunes.

App Not Authorized on 2/16 devices

Ok so I have AC 1.2.1 in a school context, 16 iPad mini's 14 of which have all successfully become managed devices.
I have two iPad minis that continually get stuck during the app syncing process with the "App not Authorized" message.
There are at least 7 codes free for each of the apps. There are no Apple ID issues on the Mac that is managing the devices, as we have successfully supervised 14/16 of the minis.
The profile is the same profile for each
Any ideas as to how resolve this?

The only time I've ever come across this error message was when the Apple ID used to download the app (.ipa file) in iTunes on the provisioning computer was different from the Apple ID entered into Apple Configurator. As to why its working on all but 2 of your iPad minis is strange.
First thing I would try is to associate the Apple ID with the iPad mini. On the mini, go to Settings -> iTunes and App Stores and enter the Apple ID and password that you used on your OS X Mac to download the app. Then plug back into Apple Configurator and try adding the apps again.
If that doesn't work (and if there isn't any data or apps you need to back up on the mini), I would wipe the iPad clean (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Conteent and Settings) and restore a new backup...then try again.
Below are steps that I have suggested to many users on this forum who have come across this error message (and it has helped many of them). I know your circumstances are different because its working on 14 of your 16 iPads but I thought I'd share it in case something in there helps you.

First, go into iTunes and authorize with an Apple ID (iTunes -> Store -> Authroize this computer). It doesn't have to be a VPP Apple ID…just an ordinary Apple ID used to associate with the app. Then download the app(s). They will go to ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications. These apps will be linked to the Apple ID you authorized in iTunes. Next go into Apple Configurator and add the apps on the Prepare -> Apps screen. When you try to add the app in AC (clicking on the "+" at the bottom of the screen), you should be prompted to enter an Apple ID and password (see screenshot below).
It will say that "This Apple ID will be used to redeem VPP codes…" It is NOT the Apple ID used to purchase the VPP codes… The VPP codes can be redeemed by any Apple ID.
You must enter the same Apple ID and password that you used to download the app in iTunes, and you should be good to go.

HT5188 Configurator - "App Not Authorized"

I've read several articles and each time get a little farther, but still haven't been able to resolve this...
I am using the latest version of Apple Configurator on a Macbook, also freshly updated to the latest update of Lion. I have set up the Macbook with the iTunes Account I set up for this cart, we'll call it [email protected] I have logged into iTunes with this same account, and authorized it. I have gone to Preferences in Apple Configurator and set this as the iTunes account there.
I used the Volume Purchase Store to obtain some apps through my facilitator account, [email protected] I sent the codes and the xls files to [email protected], clicked on the links, and downloaded them via iTunes. These are Supervised iPads, so I went to the Supervise mode of Configurator, and added in the paid apps, along with some free ones I got along the way. I clicked next to each paid app and imported the xls files.
Each time I try to Apply the new apps, I get the error "App not authorized." This is when I went into Configurator's preferences and entered [email protected] into the Preferences. Then when I hit Apply again, it zapped away the codes (marked them as used) but did NOT put them on the iPad - in the license sheet it just has a checkmark, it doens't list device name/number or anything. And it still says App Not Authorized. I even went on to the iPad itself and logged into Store with the same [email protected] account. Nada.
I'm tearing my hair out... any other suggestions??

(Altogether 3 trollies, divided with 17, 19 and 23 in each)
Things that you should notice:
1. Make sure that after redeemin the appl VVP cods, go back to the VVP webpage and dowload the new spreadsheet. Direct Link:

+ Since you have already redeemed one app, the old spreadsheet doesnt recognise that you have done so. In the new spreadsheet,
2. tyr to install the free apps first, only for the last ipad/iphone,
3. if you are unable to fix it with anyway, call apple care,
they are pretty good, they will make sure that you get the X number of apps you need.
+ when you recevie these codes make sure that you ask them to send it via an excel spredd sheet, so you can import them directly to apple configurator.

Hi, is the problem just to update your apps on your iPad? Here is what you should check. Is the iTunes on your computer updated to the latest version? Does your iPad needs to be updated? Do you have enough storage on your iPad to do the update? On your device is your iCloud back up checked?
Go to Settings - iCloud - Backup/Storage - see if its checked, and try unchecking it before connecting it to the computer.

Watch ESPN - User not authorized error

I'm a U-200 subscriber, I get all of the ESPN channels on u-verse. I recently moved to Kansas City from Chicago, and since the move I haven't been able to access Watch ESPN online. I've tried from my laptop, phone and two different tablets. I just get the User Not Authorized error. Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't have time to spend an hour on hold waiting for tech support.

I'm a U-200 subscriber, I get all of the ESPN channels on u-verse, and also BTN, NBCSN, etc.. I recently upgraded from Internet U-verse only to U-200 and Internet, switching from DirecTV. Unfortunately, when I try to use TV network apps on my iPhone and iPad (like ABC, Watch ESPN, NBC Sports Live Extra, Fox, BTN2Go, etc), after selecting ATT U-verse as my participating TV provider and entering my U-verse credentials, I just get the User Not Authorized error from every single app. Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't have time to spend an hour on hold waiting for tech support, and I am about to switch back to another provider after only three days with U-verse. Examples of errors: NBC Sports Live Extra: "We're Sorry it looks like you're not a subscriber to this channel. Please contact you're provider."ABC: "Error code:400-1. Unfortunately, you cannot access this content. Please contact your TV provider for further assistance."BTN2Go: "User is not authroized to this content."Watch ESPN: "Unable to play video. He called me and noticed that when I upgraded from Internet Only Uverse, the database they use to authenticate TV subs on these apps was not properly synched after my upgrade to the TV/Internet account bundle. Old Purchases not syncing with Not Authorized Errors

I have had an iOS device and iTunes for over 7 years and have made a number of purchases. This was working fine up until this week. Only change was I deleted an old user account from a family member from the MBP. iTunes will not allow me to sync any of my purchases prior to August of last year and gives me a Not Authorized Error. I completely repaved my 4s and still have the problem. Similar errors when attempting to play on Apple TV (home sharing is enabled and works for all the content but this same group of purchased songs). I did the basics of authorizing and deauthorizing, yada yada.
Here is a screen shot that I get while syncing.
Called Apple support and they gave me the run around saying I'd used two differnt Apple ID's. The MBP has a different Apple ID but iTunes and my iPhone are all under the same ID, the same ID I have used for all my purchases.

iTunes 11.
iPhone 4s running 6.1.2.

I tried updating to itunes 10.5 and now when i try to open itunes i get a message saying "Apple application support was not found" error 2 (windows error 2)

Install 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and use one of them to extract the contents of the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe installer file, then try installing AppleApplicationSupport.msi as a standalone component. Even if it won't install you may get a more useful error message as to why not.

Error running Web Services in DEMO : User is not Authorized error

We created a Web Service in our DEMO installation of ERP9 Tools 8.97, Database Local SSE (User - DEMO, Password-DEMO). The Web Service is using JDE Vanilla BSFN - B0100021 - Formatted Address and created through JDeveloper using JDE BSSV tool.
When we are running the Web Service (TestCustomWebService) from JDeveloper (Right Click and Run) it is providng an url (http://moequbal:8988/context-root-JP55HOL/TestCustomWebServiceSoapHttpPort) and when we are pasting the URL in the browser and entering a valid value in the Input field and pressiing the 'Invoke' Button, the following Error pops up -

I can confirm that the lab and BSSV functionaly works in DEMO, I have it working nicely. However, I dont think you can deploy this to a Business Services server. I haven't tried as yet. but you can test all the published BSSV via jDeveloper to verify that you have the correct code. It starts O4CJ and web services locally and brings up an input web page to enter the AN8, the data outputs to XML.
Tip:
1) Make sure that you have an entry in the P00950 security workbench. .
2) make sure that you select the BSSV item (i.e CustomAddressManager) and select 'set to publish' available (this only appears on checkin) when you check the object in. Make sure that you have entries in the F98601, 602, 603 tables in Object Librarian
3) Open P00950 select published bssv, click on the grid line (1st column) in the grid form of W00950X click the searchlight, in W00950U hit find you must see your published BSSV in here.
if not you go back to step 2. You must 'set to publish' for the bssv i.e CustomAddressManager object. Otherwise you will not be able to see in the W00950U form.
4) Repeat for the 2nd column and Make sure you select the 'Secure by Method' this will take you to W00950Y form and you must select your bssv and select the 'Allow Execute' on the bottom of the form.
Once you have these in place then you will not get the 'Not authorized' error messages.

Oh phooey. I had the same problem, so I decided to delete and reinstall. Only to discover that Google's YouTube app no longer supports anything below iOS 6. This is a problem since I'm running an original iPad.
Yes, I realize that my version of iOS still has the old YouTube app. But it's not the same. For one thing there are a lot of ad-supported videos that will only play in the new app.

How much is the charge ? Have you added or changed your credit card details on your iTunes account ? If you have then each time that you do so a small temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - it should disappear off your account within a few days or so.

When I try to play a movie I downloaded from iTunes on my apple tv, the error message I get says the apple tv is not authorized to play the movie. I reauthorized the computer to be sure it is authorized ( as per Apple advice).

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If this is the Apple TV 1, this is a new issue which started with any new protected content purchased after October 28.
You could de/re authorise your computer, disconnect and reconnect the library and resync your content, alternatively purchasing content directly from the Apple TV also appears to resolve the problem.

Apple Configurator VPP Australia

Hello,
I am using Apple Configurator to install free apps to 38 iPads for use in a primary school in Australia. The VPP is not available in Australia (as of writing), and I wish to distribute apps that we purchase to the iPads. Can Apple Configurator be used to do that? If not, what is the recommended approach? If just some of the iPads were to access the iTunes account to purchase apps outside of using the Configurator program, would the paid apps remain on the iPads when reconnected to the MacBook originally used to install free apps to the iPad?
Education dollars are hard to come by, but in the interim, I will just have to spend the money to download onto each iPad and install the apps required.
Any help with this Apple Configurator program, VPP, and paid apps install appreciated.

Apple Configurator Buy App Problem

I working in Hong Kong School, Our School have over 150 ipad, I used the apple configurator to synchronous all of ipad free App,
Now, Our School want to buy some App to user, I see your apple support communities need Using Volume Purchase Program (VPP) Redemption Codes to buy the App. But the Education VPP Program Manager Enrollment can not select my country Hong Kong, How can I use the VPP to buy App?

Basically, you go to the Apple Volume Purchase Program for Education Store and find the app you want. You select an app and how many copies you want…lets say 20 copies. You then download an Excel spreadsheet that includes 20 VPP Redemption Codes. You take this Excel file and import it into Apple Configurator. As you install the app using Apple Configurator, it keeps track of how many codes you've used. After you've installed it on 20 iPads, you will no longer be able to install the app on additional iPads unless you purchase more VPP codes.

HT5194 Apple Configurator, VPP code and Hardware failure

We use VPP for many iPads, but the likely hood of one of those being damaged/stolen/lost is high (devices imaged and deployed to multiple, and changing users) and we don't want to loose a VPP code each time one of our devices needs to be replaced due to damage, lost or stolen. Can Apple Configurator handle this situation w/o buying a new VPP code each time a new iPad is brought into the environment? I have read that backing up the configurator database should handle the issue if the MAC managing the devices and running the configurator goes down and needs to be replaced, but what about the actual devices themselves?

Your questions address a feature that many of us want Apple to support...the ability to recover and/or redistribute VPP codes, which is so important especially in schools. However, the process you are asking for is currently unsupported by Apple and most MDM providers. Currently the only way to recover VPP codes is to remove the app from Supervised iPad(s) using Apple Configurator. If you don't have the iPad, you can't recover the VPP code(s). So yes (unfortunately) if the iOS devices is lost/stolen/broken then the VPP redemption codes are lost.
If you were in a situation where a large number of devices were stolen all at once (like a whole cart or multiple carts), you may be able to call Apple Store support for Education at 1-800-800-2775 and explain the situation. I have heard of circumstances where VPP codes have been returned/recovered but that is a rare circumstance.
I know its not the answer you wanted to hear, but I hope this answers your question.
