Apple logo constantly blinking, cannot open itunes or use phone at all

Please tell me how to fix this issue without losing my contacts, media, data, etc. I would prefer not to restore my phone to factory settings. I have a 3GS, not jailbroken, have had it for about a year and a half. I can't even turn the phone off or on, and my laptop isn't recognizing my phone. Thanks.

HOWEVER, it is not a permanent fix. This issue keeps happening over and over. It happens randomly, but the main connection I have made so far is it restarts when I am using the iPod to navigate to a song or playlist or album or whatever. It happens when I click to select one of these things, not during playback. It is never the same song, playlist, album it appears to be random. I have two 160GB classics that are nearly full (5GB remaining) and syncing to the same library in the same manner and they both have this issue. One is about 1.5 years old and the other is 0.5 years old. I have the latest firmware and iTunes 8.1.1. My next troubleshooting is to try to sync only one playlist and mess with it for a while and see if the issue comes back. If not it might be due to the iPod being nearly full. If so then it might be a firmware bug? It is not a hardware issue because two iPods don't crash the same way at the same time (highly highly unlikely).

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore. When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

My problems started with an error 50 message when trying to download bought films. After un-installing and downloading iTunes, a number of times, I still cannot open iTunes on my PC and keep getting the message "you do not have permission to open"

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.

Keyboard
Hold down F12 as you restart the computer until the CD ejects itself.
USB Mouse
Hold down the left mouse button as you restart the computer until the CD ejects itself.

Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it! It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Logout of the app store and iTunes store: Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Go back to home screen and reset the phone by pressing the sleep/wake and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears then release them.
Once phone has finished rebooting go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store and login with your Apple ID and password again. Then open the iTunes Store app again.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (Although the procedure is for Vista and 7 and you've got XP, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.
