Apple Mail 250 MILLION incoming messages (Mavericks)

A few weeks ago I upgraded to Mavericks.
Mail was working great but now I'm having all kinds of problems.
I've seen there are lots of other people having similar problems, but one I have not seen anyone post is...
In the "mail activity" window, below the list of mailboxes, I have a HUGE number of incoming messages.
Today it is up to over 250 MILLION incoming messages!!!!!  Not hundred, not thousand but MILLION     And the number is still increasing!!
In my different emails I may get a maximum (depending on the day) of up to 150 emails, all of which are already loaded on my computer (I end up deleting the majority of those emails), so how can I have so many emails trying to come in??
Of course, when I open my Activity Monitor, the Mail application sometimes takes up OVER 100% of the processor... making it impossible to work.
I went into my different accounts and deleted the "deleted" emails on the servers.  What else can I do?
What can possibly be causing this??
I have several gmail accounts and others on specific domains (linked to websites), all imap.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
macbook pro 15-inch, Early 2011,
mavericks 10.9.5
8 go ram
Mail 7.3

Yes Eric that does reset it but the numbers quickly start to climb again!!!
At first it says may 10 incoming  messages (that would be about normal),   but now I'm up to over 50,000 again!!!
There is some sort of duplication going on that was not happening before I upgraded to Mavericks.
I agree with you about feedback.  I'm trying to send feedback everyday, until I find a solution.
This problem is keeping me from working since it is using up way too much of the CPU.
Thanks anyway.

My Apple Mail is showing 100 million incoming messages and climbing at a rate of about 20k per second. Where are all these going and how do I get this to stop?
    thanks

Whoa, was your email exposed on a public forum/TV show?
First I would sign out of Mail right away.
Second I would go to your email's website and sign into there. Examples... icloud.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com and whatever you use. Just to see if it's happening there. If it is happening there, then I strongly suggest changing your email address and whatever website  you used it on for login information.
If it's not happening there, then hopefully when you sign back into Mail it won't happen again. If it does happen again, let us know. I wouldn't be able to help but maybe someone else could.

I am wondering if anyone is seeing my question? This is my first time and I am not sure if I am communicating correctly. If you are seeing the question above regading deleted messages reappearing please reply so I will at least know I am getting the message out.
    Thank you.

  • My mail activity shows more than 1 million incoming messages and is moving in lots of 10 thousand - this is happening periodically  - what is wrong?

Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks my mail has been periodically showing incoming messages at larger and larger volumes.   Sometimes in the hundreds of thousands and today in the millions.  Clearly I don't have that going on  - it seems to eat my resources for a bit and then stops - I have no idea what is going on.  Suggestions?

It is a bug. Quit Mail and then reopen it. Should fix it.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Apple Mail, won't sort message on server

Apple Mail 7 on Mavericks, when I display my account's email messages  still stored on the ISP server (account information), it is no longer possible to sort them by categories (dimension, date, sender, etc.).
Previously it was possible: is it a bug or has been removed as a feature (very useful to delete old message from the server !!).

I'm not talking about the email messages stored locally on my computer.
It's not the main Mail window I'm talking about.
Let's see if I can make me clear.
The step to reproduce the problems are:
1- click on your account's INBOX incoming mail contextual menu
    2- select "account informations"
3- this will open the "account informations" window, showing all your email messages still archived on your ISP server (not only your local mail).
4- In this window it is no loger possible to order the mail messages by date, sender, dimenstion etc
    See short movie here:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8222823/Mail_account_info.mp4
BTW, you'll see in the movie that Mail messages are ordered (why?) by dimension.
What if I'd like to select and delete all the old message from 3 days ago?

  • Lost mail body and marked messages - Maverick Upgrade

I lost some message body (they are listed but have no content) and 15 out of 16 messages marked with a flag where not in the Marked Message Folder. That happened after upgrading to Maverick. I tried to replace only the Mail folder in the libraray with the old one from Time Capsule. Didn't work. Had to reinstall whole system.

i had lost mail body, this is how i fixed it:
hold option, click GO in the top bar (where the apple icon lives), go to library > Mail > V2
now here's where things may differ slightly, i lost the body of mails i had moved to my computer (on my mac), plus i'm using Gmail accounts, that being said, inside the mailboxes folder is where the local folders are and Mail decided to create duplicate folders of some of them so i had
    Clients.mbox (with some emails)
    Clients-2.mbox (with the missing ones)
i then moved the Clients-2.mbox to the desktop, went File > Import (in Mail) then selected Apple mail as the import type, selected the mbox folder on the desktop and imported them into mail at which stage i just moved them back in to the clients folder where they belong.
i still have an issue where the reply arrow (next to email subjects of replied emails) is linking to completely irrelevant emails, that is not good. unless apple fixes it asap i would recommend moving to another email program as the Mail dev team has not only dropped the ball but stabbed it repeatedly with a blunt rusty object.

  • Apple mail: Sender not matching message

I had a problem with my messages from my apple account through Apple Mail. When I opened up the message, the message was from someone else and from a different date then who was listed as the sender. So Bob sent me a message and when I opened up the email it was a message from Steve from six months ago. So what I did was to rebuild my mac email box.
To rebuild your specific mailbox, you must select the specific mailbox. Then go to the menu mailbox and click on Rebuild.
This did take some time, but it cleared up the problem and fixed all new and old message that had the problem.

    Hello Art Kleimer,
It may help to rebuild the affected mailboxes in Mail.

  • Can I moving mailboxes from Apple Mail 4.6 (OS X Lion) to Apple Mail 7.1 (OS X Mavericks)?

    Hi all,
I've tried to copy my /User/Library/Mail, /User/Library/Mail Downloads and /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist on OS X Lion 10.6.8 to the same dirs in OS X Mavericks. But I still can't see my old mailboxes and messages.
It's possible to migrate from Mail 4.6 to Mail 7.1?
    tks

Apple doesn't have an email system for support. AppleCare is the only method.
You might try the Support link on the Mac App Store, but they're not necessarily the people in charge of the up-to-date program, but they may be able to help you. Don't get your hopes up on that, though. When you contact the App Store support, make sure you note all of the things you stated above along with your Claim Reference number.

  • Apple Mail receiving not all messages?

    Hello,
I have my email through Bluehost, a web hosting site. I did this so I can have a custom domain such as [email protected] Checking mail through Bluehost is horrible so I have a forward set up to gmail.
My Apple Mail has both emails set up to it. I notice sometimes I would recieve an email only to the [email protected] one or sometimes receive an email only to the gmail account. Other times they would send to both. - Shouldn't they always go to both accounts? People only know my bluhost one and even if they send an email to my bluehost one sometimes it only goes to the gmail account when i check apple mail. This is one of the reasons I didn't keep just the gmail account and kept both in Apple Mail. I'm affraid if I only keep the gmail I'm going to miss some messages I won't recieve, vise versa.
Another issue why I have both emails on Apple Mail is when I would send something at times it would show up as the gmail address which is slightly different even though I made in gmail settings to use my domain from bluehost.
My goal is to eventually just use the gmail account in apple mail but trust im not missing any potential incoming messages, and also to be able to send out messages all having my custom domain blue host address.

  • My apple mail has an error message and won't open after iTunes update 6/20/14

I have a MacBook 13 Aluminum using Mountain Lion/MavericksX. Soon after I did a random update for iTunes mid June 2014 I noticed that I could no longer open my mail on my desktop. I did tell Apple about it when the error message came up, but I haven't heard anything and the last update 7/1/14 didn't help. I can use Entourage, but I like Apple mail better. Any ideas? Yow

I had all but given up on the Apple mail. Then I remembered that I hadn't checked it since my last X update yesterday. So, I tried and of course, APPL fixed it. Apple is so fantastic. Sorry but there is no problem to work on.

Well I feel a bit silly about this. I gave up on Apple mail and was using Entourage. Yesterday I did the most recent update from APPL and hadn't checked to see if they'd come up with a fix. I'd written them to ask about it because the error occurred after the iTunes update so I figured there was a bug. I just opened it, and poof, apple mail again. It did go through something and dinged and opened. Thank you for writing me. Y

  • Sad ex-Eudora user, Apple Mail 5.1 losing messages, me losing clients

Since I grudgingly switched from Eudora to Mail last week, thanks to Lion, I have been driven slowly crazy by Apple Mail.  It keeps losing important messages from my clients.  I try to either leave them in the INBOX or file them in the appropriate Mailbox, but then I look in both places and can't find them.  And the (weak) search function in Mail can't find them either.  Not EVERY message, but enough messages.
    Any suggestions?
    God, I miss Eudora.

I've never once lost an email message in Mail except through user error.  However, some possibilities:
Have you checked your spam folder?  Perhaps Mail is mis-filing some legit messages as spam, which can happen early in the training process.  If there are legit messages in there, mark them as "Not Junk" and move them back to an appropriate folder.
Do you check mail with other devices, and if so, do you have the account set up as POP or IMAP?
Are you using rules to organize your messages?  If so, review them all carefully and consider doing without them for a while to see if that makes a difference.
Have you tried rebuilding all your mailboxes?  See the Mailbox menu.

  • Apple mail search finds the message but cannot show its content, why?

    Hi
I have a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion installed on it. All the updates are also installed.
The problem is that I can quickly find a message among 100,000 messages sorted in different folders in Apple Mail, but as I click on the message, it keeps showing "loading..." and never shows the content of that message.
When I manually go to that message, Mail shows the content properly. So it happens only when I try to see the content of the message that has been found through search function.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Farshid

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "mdworker" (without the quotes) in the Filter text field. Select the most recent 50 or so messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are long runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Do the same with the search string "mds".

  • Thunderbird 2.8Gb, Apple Mail 9Gb for same messages

I have all my mail from the last thirteen years in both Thunderbird 3 which uses 2.8 Gb, and Apple Mail 4.2 which uses 9 Gb for the same messages.
There are no duplicates in the Apple Mail, and the attachments all seem to be present and correct in Thunderbird.
Is there an explanation for the difference?
I know I can archive the Apple Mail mailboxes but then Spotlight can't search them.
There doesn't seem to be any "compact" option.
    Thanks for any input.
EDIT: I meant to say that this mail is all "on my mac" and is all the mail from my POP days, before I converted to IMAP.

Settings > Messages, log off the Apple IDs on both of your iPhones.  Once done, login your own Apple IDs on your own iPhones.

  • Mail Composed, and incoming messages displayed Font too small.

Most emails I receive and my outgoing composed messages use a font size around 12 point. People who receive my emails see a normal size, but while I am composing or reading incoming messages the font displayed is too small and difficult to read.
When I use other applications where I also use or view a 12 point font, and have the viewing magnification set to 100%, the displayed font is just fine. I think this is due to my screen resolution which is set to 1280x800 on my 13" MacBook.
When I change my screen resolution to 1024x768, the mail displayed 12 point font becomes readable, and in other applications the 12 point font at 100% magnification is the same as when I was using the 1280x800 screen resolution.
I have tried entering Command-Plus to magnify the displayed mail message, it actually increases the font size in the message rather than magnifying the message and keeping the font the same.
Is there another way I can magnify just the displayed message without magnifying the whole desktop/screen?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jeff Cameron

Yes, setting the monitor to the default resolution, it does look fine. But for applications like Word, Pages, Preview and many other when you set the display zoom magnification to 100.00 regardless of the screen resolution the text seems normal, but in Mail, there is no screen zoom magnification, and so the higher the screen resolution, the smaller the text in composed and received messages is.

  • Apple Mail showing multi-part messages incorrectly

All of a sudden, in Lion only, messages with attachments in Apple Mail are being shown as raw source, and I can't extract the attachments (and I can barely read the message). Here's an excerpt that shows what I mean:
    --Apple-Mail=_9C72CECF-1C52-4B2A-ACB7-FB8F9282EAB6
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: inline;
              filename=Keynote.png
    Content-Type: image/png;
              name="Keynote.png"
    Content-Id: <CF71EAE0-CDBB-4866-9ACD-1387EACD3EE4>

    lndUU9kWh8+9N71QkhCKlNBraFICSA29SJEuKjEJEErAkAAiNkRUcERRkaYIMijggKNDkbEiioUB
And so on. That's a PNG image attached to the message, but I can't extract the image. There's no way to get a different view of the message; none of alternatives under View > Message are enabled. If I use a different computer, running Snow Leopard, I can receive this same message and it displays normally (with the image shown inline) and I can extract the attachment. What might be the cause of this? Thanks.

It's not just you.  I'm having the same problem -- Gmail, IMAP, subject lines matched with wrong email body.
And I've noticed that in my case, it seems that (at least?) two emails have exchanged the subjects/message index lines and their bodies.
Rebuilding or deleting accounts or deleting the envelope index doesn't help -- it always comes back in a day or two, often with the same emails.
