Apple Mail and Date Format

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Is there a way to use international date formats in Apple Mail.app with the AppleStationeryDynamicElement?
Example: xxxxx<\span >
In my case it always displays the English Format "October 22, 2010" instead of the German format although in the language settings everything seems O.K. .
Thank you very much!
Kind regards

  • Migrate Apple Mail and iTunes to a new Mac

A friend df mine has a macBook Pro 2009 and now has bought a MacBook Por Retina.
As the old AMcBook pro is full of problems on system level I offered to help him with th emigration of some of his old data to the new machine. iPhoto data is no problems as I know which files to copy but hesitate on Apple Mail and iTunes.
I read this extensive manual http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/moving-apple-mail_4.htm#step-heading but it tells me also to copy the old keychain data, which is corrupt and even Key Chain First iAd can't solve.
Is it possible yo only copy Username/Library/Mail and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Username/LibraryPreferences ?
On iTunes I have want to follow theses steps to have his iPad and iPhone sync on the new Mac
    1) Make sure that iTunes is not running on both Macs.
    2) Disconnect your iPhone/iPod from both Macs.
    3) Copy your iTunes folder: /Users/username/Music/iTunes
    4) Copy your iPhone/iPod backups: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
    5) Copy your iTunes configuration files: /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
    6) Open iTunes on your new Mac and verify that Applications and Ringtones appear.
    7) Connect your iPhone/iPod to the new Mac and accept any new authorizations.
    8) Use iTunes on your old Mac to de-authorize the computer.
Your help and advice is appreciated

Is it possible yo only copy Username/Library/Mail and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Username/LibraryPreferences ?
Yes. You'll need to reenter the passwords for the mail accounts.
    Your iTunes plan looks good.

  • In the advanced tab of languages and Region the time and date formats will not change

For a certian Application I am using I need to change the format of the Time and Date. I had no problems in Mountain Lion. In the advanced tab of languages and Region the time and date formats will not change. I need the date format to read as 01/01/14 and time format to read 13:00. As I said this was easily done in Mountain Lion and all previous Apple OS. I suspect it's an issue with in the OS.

You're right, it has been that way for a long time. I've never bothered reporting it as a bug since it's simple enough to deal with, but reporting it would be a reasonable thing to do.

  • Apple Mail and Google Apps (personal domain) - 554 554 Denied Mail Delivery Subsystem (Intermittent Failure)

    Hello,
I am having problems with my Apple Mail and Google Apps and I don't know what to do.  I have been using apple mail with google apps for a few months now with no complications.  In the last week I have recieved a handful of messages from the Mail Delivery Subsystem citing error "554 554 Denied". I know that the emails I have tried to send to are real emails and are entered correctly. I tried to send directly from google apps to one of these people today and it worked so I assume the problem is with Apple Mail, or is intermittent. Adding to my frustration is that it works with some people and not with others so it's hard for me to see exactly what is causing the problem.
    Any ideas?
I'll include a copy of one of the Mail Delivery Subsystem emails I recieved - excluding the email address and message body.
    Thanks for your help!

    hope this helps a bit.

  • Apple mail and address book amnesia

I recently purchased a new imac to replace my macpro. The macpro was running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
My new mac is on Mavericks. I copied the entire address book over from Snow Leopard over to Mavericks
In mail on Mavericks, when I receive an email it no longer recognizes that the email is already in my address book.
When I highlight the email address in mail it gives me the option to "add to contacts" but i know for a fact that this person is already in my address book.
In snow leopard when someone emailed me that had done so before, I was able to highlight their address and it would open their contact info in address book automatially so I could read all personal info. Now about 90% of the time it forgets that i already have this email in my address book so I must manually search for this contact
How do i force apple mail and address book to work together again?

    Hi,
I have the following problem. When I updated to Mavericks (from snow leopard), the folder name "Address Book" did not change into "Contacts".
I could see that all data were still there (library/application support/address book/metadata) but when I opened "contacts" in dock it displayed "0" elements.
I could display my contacts only through Mail, which is very strange, because I could not open it in Contacts.
Again, my identity in Mail was wrong: I received the eMails with the name of client of mine (who is in my address book). The address was correct, but the label was and is still wrong.
Then I've changed the folder name from "address book" into "contacts" and now, when I open it from the docks, it display 2 elements.
    1) Apple GmbH (Ltd. in Germany)
    2) My personal contact data (but I had to enter all my data again). Concerning this I my be wrong but I think that before it displayed my contact/identity as "me" and now it doesn't (name/family name/company...)
I can't retrieve the data in the metadata folder.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Silvio

  • Apple Mail and IOS mail client's auto configuration

    Good morning,
Does any kind of documentation exist, anywhere, of how Apple Mail and IOS does autodiscover (how they handle it) and which XML format does it require for non Exchange accounts to be autoconfigured (an IMAP account with SSL and SMTP SSL too?.
    Best regards,

    Good morning Eric,
Thank you so much for your answer. Básically the answer I'm trying to get is how to manage for autoconfigure Apple Mail and iOS Mail automatically with a not "so known" email provider such us Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, like can be Sarenet (www.sarenet.es). I mean which kind of info should an XML or DNS SRV record contain in order to achieve this goal?. My answer requirement is far more specific that yours. Anyway thanks a lot as said before .

    Hi,
According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.
_*Apple Mail and GoogleMail via IMAP*_
As posts concerning the setup of Apple Mail for GoogleMail IMAP access become more frequent on Apple Discussions, I decided to collect some of the most asked-for info in one place. The following hints are intended to provide enough info for anyone who wants to get started with Google Mail IMAP and Mail.app.
As you might have noticed already, GoogleMail behaves differently from other IMAP accounts in some respects. One of the underlying reasons is its use of labels instead of folders (i.e. instead of moving messages to different folders – like e.g. Private and Work – in order to establish some order, rather there are labels tagged to the messages). Because of this a particular setup of Apple’s Mail client is required.
    *Activating IMAP for Google Mail*
If you haven’t activated access via IMAP for Google Mail already, follow the instructions given by Google [here|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695&topic=13294]. It boils down to this:
    1) Sign in to Gmail.
    2) Click "Settings" at the top of any Gmail page,
    3) click "Forwarding and POP/IMAP",
    4) select "Enable IMAP".
    5) Click "Save Changes".
*Creating a new account in Apple Mail*
To add a Google Mail IMAP account in Mail.app, go to File > Add Account. A wizard will open which prompts you to insert your Name, the eMail-address of the new account and the password. Don’t use the option for automatic configuration if it’s available. Info on what to type into the different fields can be obtained from Google [here|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799&topic=12814]. The most important are:
    1) Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com, port 993 (using SSL)
    2) Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com, port 465 or 587 (using SSL)
    3) Your account name is your full email address including "@gmail.com" (without the quotation marks)
*Configuring the Google Mail account in Apple Mail*
After you have added your Google Mail IMAP account to Mail.app, you’ll find a section for Google Mail in Mail.app’s sidebar with subfolders like "All Mail" (which has in turn several subfolders) and folders for each label you created with GoogleMail. Now you have to configure the account properly. Despite what [Google recommends|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892&topic=1281 4], I found the following settings to work best for me.
In the sidebar, navigate to the subfolders Trash/Sent/Drafts/Junk of "Google Mail" (the one with the white folder icon instead of a blue one) in turn and go to "Mailbox" menu > "Use this mailbox for..." > Trash/Sent/Drafts/Junk respectively. Afterwards these folders show up as subfolders to the main Trash/Sent/Drafts/Junk folders in the sidebar (and at the same time disappear from the GMail section). Among others this step is necessary because of Google Mail’s implementation of labels. E.g., as Google states [here|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892&topic=12814]:
Messages that are deleted from an IMAP folder (...) only have that label removed and still exist in All Mail
So if you want to delete a message you have to set the option to "Use this mailbox for… Trash" as described above. Same applies to sent messages etc.
Furthermore, make sure every checkbox in Mail's Preferences > Accounts > GoogleMail > Behavior is checked . (Some will already and automatically be checked when you apply the option "Use this mailbox for..." as described above).
    *Some basic troubleshooting tips*
    1) If your counter for unread messages in Mail.app doesn’t refresh properly, go to "Mailbox" menu > "Sync all accounts".
    2) If you have set up a Smart Mailbox in Mail e.g. for unread messages and every unread message of Google Mail shows up twice, then add the criterion "Message is not in mailbox" > "All Mail", and set the requirement for messages to comply with ALL conditions (instead of ANY). This is necessary because of every message there is a copy stored in All Mail.
I hope these info will be regarded as helpful by anyone who tries to get started with Google Mail and experiences some problems on the way.
The links given were accessible as of September, 3rd, 2008. The setup was tested on a MacBook with OS X 10.5.4 Leopard and Mail 3.4 (928/928.1).

  • Apple Mail and Gmail IMAP

With the iPhone coming to Verizon soon, I'd like to move back to Apple Mail from Gmail, but still want to keep Gmail as my source because my domain is setup with Google Apps but mostly because of the unparalleled spam filtering Gmail has. My problem is that even though I've configured Apple Mail exactly as Google recommends (shown below), I still have some issues.
From the Mail menu, click Preferences > *Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors*
    Drafts:
Store draft messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    Sent:
Store sent messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    Junk:
Store junk messages on the server > checked
Delete junk messages when > Never
    Trash:
Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > *do NOT check*
Store deleted messages on the server > *do NOT check*
I want to have true IMAP functionality here, but I'm not getting it. Sent messages work fine...if I send a message, it shows up in Apple Mail in the Sent folder and when I go to Gmail it is also in the Sent folder. BUT...when I delete a message in Apple Mail it goes to the Gmail *All Mail* folder (in Apple Mail and Gmail) and never shows up in the Gmail Trash on either Apple Mail or Gmail...where it should. I've tried changing the settings under *Apple Mail > Trash* but that doesn't fix the problem.
I realize some of you might be inclined to say "It's Google problem...ask there" but I'm hoping a Gmail user here might have had this same issue before. Even as a dedicated Apple person for many years, I still can't give up Gmail and their spam filtering that Apple Mail can't come close to. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, Andy. I should have posted a closure statement on this thread as I finally figured everything out. The most frustrating thing is Google's own advice at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892# couldn't further from correct. After many hours of experimenting with settings, I finally came up with the correct ones. In fact, I'm in the process of writing an article about it since there is simply no definitive guidance on the web that I've been able to find in the time I've searched.
Your comments are on target...everything on the *Behaviors Tab* needs to be checked (excepts Notes) and the *Delete when* settings must be set to Never. But there are a few other things that must be done, including some changes on Gmail Settings before Mail and Gmail will be perfectly synchronous. I'll post the entire solution on this forum when I finish the graphics.

  • Apple Mail and Godaddy Fix

FINALLY!  So after a couple years of coaching clients through the Godaddy/Apple Mail situation and lately a couple months of not using Apple Mail and using Postbox instead... I decided to give Apple Mail one more try.  I like the interface of it and am just used to it.
Tried the normal stuff that every one says to do... remove and add the email account, rebuild the mailbox, turn Mail offline/online, made sure I didn't have 25k emails in the inbox.  (Sidenote: Your inbox will stop syncing new emails if you have over 25k emails.  It will only sync the oldest 25k, so as you delete them the newer emails begin to show.
To the part you all are waiting for!  I am hoping this works for every one, like it did for me.
    Log into Godaddy webmail
Create a new folder (top level, no parent)
Move all emails from the inbox into the new folder
In Apple Mail, click "Get Mail" and wait for it to complete
Synchronize the mailbox in Apple Mail. You may want to rebuild the box too (I was trying everything as usual)
Give Apple Mail a little time until your inbox becomes empty
Send yourself a few test emails and you should see the new emails start showing up
This worked for me and I really hope you get the same success.  An additional note... I went back into Godaddy Webmail and started moving 500 emails at a time back into my inbox from the folder I created.  Apple Mail is syncing them back in.  When you do this just make sure you do 500 at a time and wait for Apple Mail to see the new 500 before you do more.
Apple Mail is still hanging on the "trash" folder though.
The one thing I do not understand though is that I have 3 different Godaddy email accounts.  The other two work fine and one of them actually has over 35,000 total emails (not in the inbox).
I have had this problem with Snow Leopard, then upgraded to Mavericks, and then Yosemite.... both times hoping it would solve the problem.  It never did.

  • Why are Apple Mail and Addressbook not listed?

In Support, neither Apple Mail nor Addressbook are listed on OS apps. And if you go to Feedback > Product Feedback, there are 31 apps listed, but Apple Mail and Addressbook are not listed there either. Mac OS X is, so you need to use that for these apps.
But I think the lack of listing is not so bad, but is indicative that Apple doesn't seem to embrace these apps the way it does it's other OSX built in apps. They are basically good apps. I use them as my default apps along with iCal in order to always be in sync with the latest OSX release/update. I used to use 3rd party PIM apps but then had to always wait until they released their update to be in sync with the latest Apple OS. After awhile I realized the smarter approach was to use Apple's software as much as possible since they will be designed to work with the latest OS upon the release of the latest OS.
But the built in apps: iCal, Addressbook and Apple Mail, while sufficient, are not full featured robust apps like their 3rd party competitors. I have to assume some this is financial since they are included in the OS where as 3rd party apps cost $40 and up, plus upgrade costs after a certain cycle lifespan.
Personally, I never want to use a calendar, contact manager or email 3rd party clent again so that I am fully in the Apple family with hardware and software all made to work together.
If the reason these type apps are not more robust is because Steven didn't feel we needed more, or because there are only so much design and programmng resources Apple can apply to essentially "free" apps, I would welcome a paid for "Pro" version of these apps to pay for more features.
Example: while iCal and Addressbook sync with all your devices, Apple Mail doesn't. Now that I have a new 2nd computer (MBP), I would REALLY love it if all my folders on the left column were identical on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
There are other feature requests I would make, and bet you would too.
I hope this is helpful to all and to Apple in terms of making their indigenous apps more robust for us, listing them in the OSX apps list in Support and Feedback and embrace them as signature Apple apps fully supported, developed and proud of.
    Just my opinion.
    Steven

Example: while iCal and Addressbook sync with all your devices, Apple Mail doesn't. Now that I have a new 2nd computer (MBP), I would REALLY love it if all my folders on the left column were identical on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
My Mail syncs, I don't know why yours doesn't. All the folders on the left of my Mail App are identical on all of my Macs and my iPhone.
In Support, neither Apple Mail nor Addressbook are listed on OS apps.
Granted, Contacts (No longer AddressBook) is not listed.

  • How do we transfer contacts and mails from apple mail and address book to Microsoft outlook on my mac

How do we transfer contacts and mails from apple mail and address book to Microsoft outlook on my mac

From Contacts, anyway (the new version of Address Book) you can export to a .abbu file and import then into Outlook. I'm not sure about Mail as I only really use Outlook...

  • RSS feeds between Apple Mail and Gmail

I was wondering if this is possible or if this even exists.
I am subscribed to RSS feeds in Apple Mail which I love reading on my iMac. But when I'm at the office on a Windows machine I can only read my RSS feeds through Gmail. It's hard to keep track of what I haven't read and have read.
Is there a way to sync which RSS reeds which are read/unread with Apple Mail and Gmail?

  • Apple Mail and Sent Messages

I have been having some issues with my iCloud email account and Mavericks. I wasn't sure if this was an iCloud issue or an issue with Apple Mail. It has to do with saving Sent messages. A couple of months ago, I had some issues with Mail. I deleted the com.apple.mail and com.apple.MailServiceAgent folders in ~Library/Containers and I deleted any plist files in Preferences. It worked for a couple months. Then, about two weeks ago, I noticed Sent emails were not be saved any where on my iMac.
So, I repeated the procedure and created Mail anew. It worked great for about a week. I always have the "save sent messages to server" option turned on. Then, one day I got some kind of message that a folder called "Sent" could not be created on the server. Looking at Mail, my Sent folder was completely gone. All of my previously saved messages in Sent were moved to the folder INBOXToDos.mbox/Sent Messages.
At first I thought iCloud itself was messed up. I logged into iCloud. There was no Sent mailbox, and there was no INBOXToDo mailbox. So, now I have no sent messages anywhere in iCloud. I sent an email from Safari in iCloud, and then, iCloud created the Sent mailbox.
Still, my Mavericks iMac will not save sent messages anywhere. I need help sorting this out and don't want to lose my previous sent messages even though they seem to be stored in some wonky folder.

Where is the Sent Messages folder listed? If it is not under MAILBOXES but in an IMAP folder, select it and go to Mailbox menu, Use this mailbox for>Sent.
It should disappear and sent messages then appear in the Sent folder.

  • Delaying when switching between apple mail and safari

    just on mavericks.
it more or less looks and feel ok but...
when I switch between apple mail and safari, everything "freezes" for some seconds (up to 30).
    anyone similar experiences?
what could be the cause of that?
    its really disturbing.

I am a little puzzled by the libraries and switching between the libraries. My personal computer has the majority of the movies and content that would be transfered to the appletv. I chose to only select a minimal amount of content (of movies and tv shows, music via playlists) so there would be space left that would hold photos. Also, i just want to send over only what I want to view (manual synch) If I switch to my Kids library, it streams all the content well (movies & tv shows)(which is fine and streams well) If I switch back to my library, it shows every movie, every tv show, hundreds of music playlist that I did not choose to see. (stream mode) The only fix is to reboot the computer, and all is well. anyone experience this issue?
