Apple's Mail program is missing 1000s of messages from Exchange account
I just discovered a terrifying thing about Mail, which I had chosen to use as my mail client to access my company's Exchange server.
When connected to the Exchange server, Mail shows and counts only 6,800 messages , while when I access the Exchange account from other systems ( iPad, iPhone, web mail, MS Outlook, ) there are 18,000 messages !
This is a SHAME ; I have used Mail to search for messages and make archives ; now I understand why on many occasions my searches etc. where unsucessful !
Mr Apple and Mr Microsoft, you need to solve this or just say upfront one should NOT use Mail to access an Exchange account ( which is my advice to anybody).
Right click on the email in the left hand pane. Select Mark as Unread to return it to an unread state. Click Delete to move it to the trash or file it in a folder if you have any configured. You may need to click the show button on the upper left hand side of the window to see your folders. The + sign at the bottom of that pane allows you to add a new folder.

Apple Mail can't send or receive messages from Exchange 2010, Mountain Lion
Over the last several weeks, I have been unable to send or recieve e-mails from Exchange 2010 in a corprate environment. I have deleted and re-added the account several times, and sometimes it will fix the issue. Other times it won't. I have also tried deleting the account, clearing the cache in ~/Library/Mail/V2/EWS*, and then re-adding the account. It resolves the issue temporarily, but then returns to not being able to sync. I've tested it with a number of other users accounts on the same Exchange system, and it's working as expected. OSX is version 10.8.4 with current patches as of 10/7/2013.
The connection doctor shows that the connection to EWS is green. The activity monitor looks like it's updating the folders properly on sync.

Apple's Mail program can't handle junk mail
I've had this machine for almost two months now and I'm STILL having problems with Apple's mail program:
1. It doesn't recognize junk mail. Although I've been in "train" mode for almost two months, it STILL doesn't recognize ANYTHING as junk mail, even things that are obviously junk, and even duplicates of messages already marked as junk.
2. Although I've set my preferences to delete junk mail on exit, the program doesn't delete junk mail. It doesn't matter whether I mark the messages manually as junk and leave them in my inbox, or if I mark the messages as junk and move them to my junk mailbox, or if I just move the messages to the junk mailbox without marking them as junk. The messages sit in the junk mailbox until I delete them manually.
I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with Apple and Apple software and the fact that almost NOTHING works as expected or advertised. I have problems with Mail, Safari and iCal to name just a few...I am not understanding any of these problems, as Mail marks Junk quite reliably for me (and I think many others). Also, no problems with Safari nor iCal here.
If you have Junk in Training, as you report, then this would explain some of the behavior. While in Training vs Automatic Mail does not create a Junk mailbox in the the account folder, and thus the setting to delete messages from the Junk mailbox would not do anything. If you have yourself created a mailbox named Junk, Mail would not use it for its own purposes.
I think there are a number of misunderstandings on your part (Junk filtering with Mail's own procedure vs manually created Rules for one), and thus I cannot easily tell what may do the most good to correct things.

How do I get my email in Apple's Mail program from old drive to new drive?
I can not determine from Apple's support info how to export my email in Apple's Mail program from the old drive to the new drive.
The old 60 GB drive was at 55GB and had 3 volume structure problems. It would not backup all files using SuperDuper!, but I could backup the user files onto an external 250GB Tintanium Fantom Drive. So I installed a new 120 GB in the iMac and took the old 60GB drive and put it in an external firewire drive housing, which mounts, runs and will even act as the startup drive. I installed 10.3.9 on the new 120GB drive. I was able to export the address book over to the new drive with no problems, but I don't know how to export the email.
There does not appear to be an export function in Apple's Mail program (This sounds kind of ???).
I have a lot of email (#???) in a lot folders and subfolders (60) in addition to the inboxes, plus all the sent mail (2,000)The Mail.app preference file (which stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences) is located at Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
All Mail.app mailboxes and other data is stored in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
With the Mail.app quit on the new hard drive, place a copy of the Mail folder from the old hard drive at Home > Library on the new drive. If there is an existing Mail folder at Home > Library, this will replace it.
Place a copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file from the old hard drive at Home > Library > Preferences on the new hard drive. If there is an existing com.apple.mail.plist file at Home > Library > Preferences on the new hard drive (and there should be one if you have launched the Mail.app on the new hard drive), this will replace it.
Launch Mail on the new hard drive and the Mail.app should be completely restored or identical to the Mail.app on the old hard drive. -
I'm new to Apple’s Mail program (I’ve used AOL for years). Howdo I configure Mail so once an email is read it automatically disappears fromthe list of emails? Conversely, how do I mark "keep as new" an email I'veread but I want to remain on the screen?

All of a sudden, Mail isn't picking up my messages from my Yahoo account. I got messages first thing this morning---and now, nothing. No changes made to passwords, etc. Connection Doctor is working fine too. Any suggestions?

Mail can not receive messages from yahoo account
Hello,
last year I bought my first Appler computer and it was a good decision . I use the mail application and addes 2 email accounts. One yahoo email account and one t-online email account. It works very well until september ... Since september I can't receive new messages from my yahoo account.
I tried different things I read in this forum. For example to delete the file com.apple.mail.list in library/preferences and start the mail application. I create a new account for yahoo. Mail read the only 49 messages from the total 84 messages. If I look at the account information within the mail application it shows all 84 messages from the yahoo account.
I also use opera as an other internet browser and the embedded email client. Opera receive my emails from the yahoo acount.
There are any other suggestions to solve my problem ?I'm having the same problem too. I think it's an issue on Yahoo's end because whenever I can't retrieve message on the POP server, I also can't login to Yahoo on Adium Messenger. Yahoo has a history of this happening, but never for days on end. I think the solution is to set your Yahoo mail to forward to Gmail and be done with it.

Hi I already used apple's link to remove u2's free album from my account but it has still been on my phone for the past few weeks. Can anyone help me? I can't swipe-delete because I have never downloaded it.

The short solution is to go to Settings > FaceTime > iPhone Cellular Calls OFF.
However, as Csound points out, you should not really be sharing an Apple ID with anyone. See: How to Stop Sharing an Apple ID.

Mail is not downloading messages from two accounts but the messages are in the server.
Hello, I'm having this problem. Mail is not downloading messages from two accounts. I don't know why but there're two accounts working so bad. If I click with the right button on the account and click to see the account details, I can see the messages on the server but not in inbox. I made a sync with this account and my iphone and then the iphone downlad the messages with out problems. Not my imac at work or my imac at home... what can be wrong?
Thanks.For Gmail, this is normal, there is nothing you can do about it -- just type Mail AND Gmail in the search box to see threads discussing how Gmail works.
As for the other accounts, this shouldn't happen. I wonder if what you're seeing is just that Mail is ignoring this setting for mail that was already on the server when you started using it. I've seen something like this happen when playing with that setting, e.g. changing it from "After one day" to "After one week". Mail would just ignore messages that fell in the timeframe where the two settings could interfere and I didn't notice it until some time later, when Mail "forgot" those messages had already been downloaded and, being faced with them again, dutifully downloaded them as if they were all new.
I believe that, if you leave the setting however you wish and stop playing with it, then Mail shall correctly process any mail that arrives from now on. In order to manually delete old messages that Mail seems to be ignoring, you can invoke the Account Info window (this is probably what you meant when you said "I can delete messages individually"; if that's not the case and want more info on this, just ask). -
Mail.app and purging of moved messages with IMAP accounts?
I REALLY want to like Mail.app but one item that has caused frustration for years is the handling (or lack) of handling of my messages once moved to another folder with IMAP accounts. I would like for Mail.app to purge/expunge the messages from the server automatically when the message is moved but it doesn't seem to complete that transaction until you actually quit out of mail.
I use multiple computers and I don't remember to quit out of Mail.app going from one of my Macs to another and don't want to but I'm getting tired of having to file the messages twice (or more). Is there a way to set Mail.app to do the automatic instant purging (or expunging) of the messages from the originating folders without having to quit out of the application? This seems to be the default behavior for nearly every other mail client I've used, including Entourage and is an option in Outlook and Outlook Express (PC).same is true with popmail, not just imap.
moreover, i think hitting "remove now" just puts content in your server's trash folder, meaning it's still taking up disk quota and you'll never know till you stop getting mail... -
MAIL Preferences / Composing / Addressing / Send new messages from account of selected mailbox = SHOWING as the option to use.

Thanks for your help!As Ernie said, you need to create an SMTP server for each gmail account with the correct username and password. Be sure the correct server for each account is listed in the SMTP box and check the box to use only that server for that account.
Gmail's default behavior when sending from one account through another account's outgoing server is to change the address to the server which is used. Same goes if I send a message from my ATT/Yahoo account and use gmail's server to send through. It will change the ATT address to the gmail address.
There is an option in gmail's settings under the Account's tab under Send Mail As. You can add different gmail or other accounts such as Yahoo to this and choose how the gmail server handles it. You can set it to send as the sending account and not change the address. I've used this many times for my ATT account for sending through gmail when ATT accounts were having problems.
You can add the different accounts to each gmail account you have. -
