Apple software updater could not be found on my desktop

i have tryed to update my software updater and the updater path cannot be found but when i go to remove programs it wont let me remove the updater or itunes itself it cant find the installer itself and also when i try and reinstall itunes from the set up it still cant find it.

Use Get Info. on a broken track and view the "expected" location from the summary tab. Restore the file from a backup, or find out where it has been moved to and move it back. If there is an obvious pattern it may be possible to move everything in one go, or I have a script called FindTracks that may be able to reconnect files to their current locations, assuming they're still present somewhere.

  • An older version of Apple Software Update could not be removed

when trying to upgrade to itunes 8 i get an error saying "An older version of Apple Software Update could not be removed. Contact your technical support group."

Polydorus, you just saved me a lot of (additional) heartburn. I had to do a system restore to rid myself of a virus, and afterwards, somehow all my Apple products entered a state of suspended animation - they were neither there nor not there. They were still listed in the programs and all the shortcuts remained, but clicking the icons led to an error message stating the programs were gone. I couldn't do a reinstall because it said an older version could not be removed, yet I couldn't uninstall them via the Add/Remove program function - "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". Delving further, I was told "the installation source for this product is not available. verify that the source exists and that you can access it." I was nearly apoplectic.
Your direction to use Windows Install Clean Up worked perfectly. iTunes et al are back and all my songs are right where I left them.
    I am so grateful.

  • New Installation Failing w/Error: The update could not be found.

On a new 2008 R2 server (Standard), using the Add Roles Wizard, I tried adding WSUS but it fails with "The update cound not be found. There may be a network connection issue. Click here for more information."
Clicking there takes me to the "Resolving WSUS issues" pages with refereces to Microsoft. The first is the most relevent:
"If you receive the message “The update could not be found. There may be a network connection issue.” when you try to install WSUS, refer to the information in the Network and Sharing Center Troubleshooting Guide."
Clicking on the link to the "Network and Sharing Center Troubleshooting Guide http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140135" takes me there (so there are no connectivity issues) but nothing seems to apply to my issue. I can browse the internet just fine and have even went in and manually installed various required components like IIS, .NET Framework 3.5.1, and Windows Internal Database but still no luck. I even downloaded the file "WSUS30-KB972455-x64" and tried running that without success. What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance.

To install WSUS as a role, the candidate server must either have an active Internet connection to obtain the WSUS installation package from Microsoft Update, or be configured to update from an existing WSUS server with the WSUS3SP2 Dynamic Installer package already approved. If the R2 server is configured to use WSUS and the WSUS3SP2 Dynamic Installer package is not approved for installation for the group(s) in which the R2 server is a member, then you may also encounter this situation.

That's hard to say. Running the installer should not have presented any issues, but then you've not shared the exact details of that particular failure, which almost certainly would have been different from the previous failures encountered using Server Manager. Of course, successfully running the installer presumes that the server has been properly prepared and prerequisites have been properly installed and configured. I would be concerned that you don't seem to have referenced and followed the explicit instructions documented in either the Step By Step Guide or the Deployment Guide, so this is a high probability source of the cause. (Note: .NET Framework 3.5.1 is NOT a required component, the Windows Internal Database does not require manual installation for WSUS, and if IIS7 is not properly configured with the exact requirements for WSUS, the installation will fail.)Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA, MCSA

  • Apple software updates does not appear to do its automatic checks?

I have itunes installed on two almost identical Windows 7 based PC's and I have noticed that on one PC the Apple Software Updates do not appear to do its job by checking for updates automatically. If I run the software manually it will show if an update is available and allow me to install it but I never seem to get prompted automatically by Apple Software Updates even though its set to check weekly.  My other PC does prompt.  Both PC's have pretty much exactly the same software installed including firewall.  Any reason why this would not appear to be working?  Any way of checking if its actually carrying out the checks?

The reason I suggested moving the files to the Desktop is because if none of these files are responsible for the problem, you can then put them back--or at least put back the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file, which would have many things in it besides the setting for Software Update. If it is the cause of the problem it would be a good idea to replace it and redo your settings. But if it is NOT causing a problem you would not want to figure out what all needs to be reset, instead you can put the old one back. The two plists from the ByHosts folders can probably just be trashed, and new ones created when you reset preferences for Software Update, although the scheduler might do something else (I don't have many things on auto schedule so I don't know, the only thing in mine is Software Update settings).

  • Itunes won't install-"Apple Software Updates Can Not Be Removed"

Cutting right to the problem. I currently have quicktine 6.5 installed and working. iTunes was completely removed. When doing search, nothing shows up. In Add & Remove Programs, however, iTunes is still listed (37 megs). How do I get rid of it so I can re-install. When I try to install, I get message "Apple Software Updates Can Not Be Removed, Contact Administrator". When I try to upgrade Quicktime to 7.1, I get "An Older Version Of Quicktime Can Not Be Removed". I would like to completely remove all traces of itunes and then try to reinstall.

    okay.
download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to remove the Installation configuration information for iTunes, Apple Software Update, and QuickTime:

now use the following document as a guide to a manual removal of any leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • The apple software updater will not update

the apple software updater will not update the following apps
    iTunes
    Quicktime player
    iCloud
    <Re-Titled By Host>

There is a tech note on what to do when an install or update fails.
Often due to prior copies and cache of those on your system.
Some you have to uninstall but it will leave behind files and folders that then have to be manually removed.
    Clone Windows just in case.
    Run chkdsk
    Cleanup
Use CCleaner or similar and repair the Registry might help too.
I just did a clean install Windows 10 Preview, and the one app I most feared installing installed and seems to be fine, iTunes 12.01+

  • Cannot install iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7. Getting "a program required for this install could not be run"--Apple Software Update is not installed, so updating it is not a possible solution.

I was following the process of unistalling all Apple software and reinstalling iTunes. But I am getting an error that says "a program required for this install could not be run."
Other threads recommend updating the Apple Software Update module, but that was uninstalled. So if it's part of the problem, updating it is not a solution.
    Windows 7, 64-bit, SP 1 installed.

For what it's worth, at the point the installation fails, Bonjour, Apple Application Support, and Apple Mobile Device Support all show as installed on Control Panel. Apple Software Update has a link on the Start Menu but does NOT show as installed on Control Panel. Is there a way to install this separately from iTunes?

  • Software Update: Could not be Verified

I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion. Since I have gotten it, I've used Software Update without experiencing any problems - untill now. Now, whenever I try to download/install updates, I get an error message saying "The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs." What is going on, and how can I fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Bootcamp: installer disk could not be found - but MAC desktop can see it

    Hi,
I have an iMac intel - 17" 1.83 GHz that I put together from a box of junk. Mechanic friend took it all apart, don't ask. Installed a new hard drive of 1 terrabyte. The internal optical drive does not work so we got a new Iomega optical drive that works just great.
We want to run Windows XP Pro on this iMac - and after updating all of the software in Mac (OS 10.5.8), and running Bootcamp set up assistant, partitioned the drive to 500 GB MAC; 500 GB PC, got this error message saying that the Windows XP installer disk could not be found.
The disk appears on the desktop. I can click on it and see all of the pc files in it. I clicked on a couple of the files and got a simple text document of gibberish. But the set up assistant in Bootcamp still doesn't recognize the disk. So I have been unable to install Windows.
The disk itself is a burned copy from my university that gave me a full license for Windows XP Pro, SP 3. It's 32 bit. And it shows up as an install disk when I pop it into a PC.
I've run Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities to repair permissions and to check that the new hard drive is ok...and it's all set.
I wonder if this is because of the external dvd drive that I'm using. I can use my Macbook Pro and get the imac into target mode. But don't know if this will have me continue to bark up this tree.
Has anyone had success with the same kind of problem that I'm not facing? Thanks much in advance.
    Sheila

I too got a version of Windows 7 64 Professional from the the Microsoft Software Distribution Network through Uni. I burnt the iso file on a PC to a DVD with power ISO and then tried to use it as the install disk. After some umming and arrhhing Mac OS X recognised it, the installer started, allowed to select language etc, then suddenly a box appears announcing that a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
I have rang up apple support and they are pretty much saying it is a disc quality issue, but I have checked all the disc drive regimes and permissions and they all seem to be fine. I have also done it with multiple brands and a number of times, everytime the same message returned. All the latest firmware has been downloaded. One thing that was briefly mentioned by the guy at Apple support was that there was the possibility that it may be the "logic board". So the previous poster may be right. They said this was unlikely, but everything is possible. The drive works for everything in the OS X side though, so has pretty much stumped me and the Apple support people. I think the only option is to take it to an Apple shop and let them see it for themselves, not really an option for me as I need the Mac Book to write my dissertation, due in about three weeks so can't afford to lose it.
Sorry if I have slightly "jacked" the thread, but the issue sounded pretty close to mine. Any resolution or insight into what might be the issue would be amazing.

  • TS1538 the iphone cannot be restore at this time because the iphone software update could not be contacted or temperarially unavailable

the iphone cannot be restore at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or temperarily unavailable....
    this error has been occred

"Activation Server Temporarily Unavailable, contact Customer Care?"
99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

  • Software Update - could not be verified and expanded

I tried to do a search on this, but didnt initially find anything.
Software Update runs, finds updates to download, I click Install Updates, they are downloaded but then I get an error that reads, The update "XYZ" could not be verified and expanded correctly. Make sure you have permissions to write to /private/tmp/501/temporariyitems, then try again.
I tried to chown the permissions on that directory, no difference. I then did:
    sudo su
    cd /private
    rm -r tmp
    mkdir tmp
    cd /
    ln -s /private/tmp tmp
...and now the error message for software update has become: blah blah blah, Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.
Can anyone help? This computer has been sitting dormant for a couple of months and I wasnt the main user before so I can only assume this has been going on for a while and is not a new issue. Thanks!!!

Do you have an admin account on the computer?
Instead of Software Update, I suggest that you download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update. Remember to Repair Disk Permissions before and after installation.

  • Window could not find apple software, window could not find apple software

My computer is windows 7 and it could not find apple software. I installed itunes which is latest version but still can't connect with ipod touch.

    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
