Apple System Profiler V 10.6.0 with OS 10.6.7

How can I get a list of Applications to appear in ASP V 10.6.0 ?
When Contents/Software/Applications selected I get "No information found."
I have tried 32/64 bit mode combinations with and without Rosetta.
Activity Monitor indicated that ASP is a Intel (64 bit) app.
This happens on all of my Macs -- MP/iMacs/MBP/MBA/MB/MM/MMS
I have left ASP on over night and still get the same -- No information found

roam,
Yes, I have disabled Spotlight due to its high CPU use (30%), taking up extra HD space with its database file and trying to index my external HDs or flash keys when they are being frequently connected.
I use EasyFind to replace Spotlight.
I have just activated Spotlight and set it to just Index the Applications on my iMac with a 1 TB HD. All other Spotlight selection are still deactivated. Spotlight reports that it will take 7 to 9 hours to complete the Indexing of Applications.
I will report back when Spotlight has completed the Indexing and then look for the complete list of Applications on my iMac's System Profiler.
Thanks for the recommending the possible solution to this problem.
My primary reason for this mode of operation is that I need 100% of CPU processing capability so that the iMac can process Stanford University's  Folding@Home cancer research Work Units:

When uploading my formatted resume to my Apple Jobs profile, I am always presented with a c:\fakepath message and the resume does not upload. How can I rectify this?

Add this one to the list of thinks that don't work on the Apple Job Board. It looks like Apple is using ADP's VE (Virtual Edge) technology to run this system, and I've been stupified by the number of features that are just broken, or so poorly thought out by ADP as to be unusable, (certainly for webkit and mozilla browsers at least: I didn't bother checking IE.)
    Here are a few highlights:
"My Job List", list of jobs applied for, seems to max out at three. You can apply for more than that, but you can only see the first three.
"Search Using Your Resume" feature yields few or no results, even when the pasted text contains only common, exactly matched words like 'Design' or 'Engineer'.
The missing resume upload, described in this thread.
"My Job Agent" seems to never flag anything, at least it hasn't ever for me despite pretty loose criteria.
Agent's created using "My Job Agent" eventually just disappear, which is fine because they don't seem to work.
When updating a profile, acknowledging the 'Terms' happens twice in a row.
Job seekers can only supply one cover letter despite being able apply for several jobs.
Pagination for search results only appears at the top of the page, so it's necessary to scroll down through each page, then up to the top again to proceed to the next page.
Well, I'm sure there are others, but you get the idea. I hope the Apple folks can fix this, (or twist ADP's arm to fix it,) so it better represents the quality of experience that Apple is so respected for consistently delivering.

  • Error messages in Console Log of Apple System Profiler

Today, I manually executed some CRON scripts from the Terminal window as part of a regular maintenance cycle. Before doing so, I ran the Apple System Profiler (OS 10.2.8), clicked on the Logs tab, and checked the Console Log. It had three days of error messages and other info (more on this later), but my intent was just to check the last entries in the log before running the CRON scripts, so that I could detect any additional errors logged as a result of the CRON scripts.
Having checked the log, I quit the Profiler and all other applications. Then I opened the Terminal window and entered:
    sudo periodic monthly
I was prompted for my adminstrator password, and it then executed the script. It took just seconds to execute. Following this, I also executed
    sudo periodic weekly
    sudo periodic daily
The weekly CRON took about 2 minutes to finish, and the daily only a few seconds. I ran Apple System Profiler again and checked the console log and found this additional error message (not present prior to running the scripts):
    Feb 15 13:43:10 Drake-Bradleys-Computer sendmail[865]: NOQUEUE:
    SYSERR(root): /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 93: fileclass: cannot open '/
    etc/mail/local-host-names': Group writable directory
(I have inserted hard returns to break the single-line error message into three lines to avoid requiring readers to use the horizontal scroll bar.)
Can anyone tell me what this error means, and what, if anything, I should do about it?
Following all of this, I next repaired my permissions with Disk Utility (and yes, after dragging iTunes 6.0.2 to the desktop). I then ran the profiler, checked the log, and encountered these two additional error messages:
file not in an order that can be processed (local relocation entries out
    of place): ./Library/Frameworks/StuffIt.framework/Versions/A/StuffIt
file not in an order that can be processed (local relocation entries out
    of place): ./Library/Frameworks/StuffIt.framework/Versions/A/StuffIt
    (Again, hard returns are inserted.)
The errors are identical. They presumably were generated by my running disk permissions, as other applications were shut down. It appears the error refers to the Suffit application.
Any ideas what causes these errors?
Finally, a last question. (And thanks for being patient with such a long post.) The console log contains a large number of error messages for each day. This occurs even on days when I have had no apps hang, or any other system problems (power failures, etc.) that I was aware of. Many of the errors seem to involve windows manangement. The most common one is:
    Feb 14 17:11:18 Drake-Bradleys-Computer /System/Library/
    CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/MacOS/SystemUIServer:
    kCGErrorIllegalArgument : CGSGetWindowGeometry: Invalid window
    But other examples are:
    Feb 14 17:42:21 Drake-Bradleys-Computer WindowServer[194]:
Cannot merge groups (yet) for wid 1877, otherwid 1881
    Feb 15 10:34:37 Drake-Bradleys-Computer WindowServer[194]:
Reserved range exhausted. (0xbbf45000 to 0xbc271000 goes out of
    bounds)
    Feb 15 10:35:03 Drake-Bradleys-Computer WindowServer[194]:
    CGXRemoveTrackingArea : Invalid tracking area
Is it fairly common for the console log to be filled with dozens of errors like this on a given day even though the iMac seems to be functioning normally?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Drake Bradley
P.S. I have a Casio digital camera and an HP printer hooked up to the iMac, and very recently, an Iomega HDD. (The latter was not connected for the tests reported above.)

    Hi Drake,
Yes, it is common, and I wouldn't worry about it.
These "errors" are not about anything wrong. My guess is that it's a developer jargon to indicate that something didn't happen, only because there is no possibility of it happening given your specific settings/system options.
See for example the statements "System woke from sleep" or "System going to sleep" in "error_log"...
We don't know to what extend these "errors" belong to so many unmodified files that used to do something in UNIX 15 years ago, but are now completely useless, harmless and so small they can't affect Mac OS X performance in any way?
    Enjoy your Mac!

  • "Memory Overview" not listed in Apple System Profiler

I have a beige G3 minitower running OS 10.2.6 that currently has 192 MB RAM. I am set to get more RAM for this machine, but I noticed that my Apple System Profiler doesn't even have a Memory Overview category showing what RAM is presently in which slot. (I'm used to seeing that in OS 9.2) In other words, I see the software, hardware, network, and production information overviews in the System Profile tab but not the Memory overview. (I get the 192 MB when I choose About This Mac from the Apple menu.) Did Apple discontinue the Memory Overview feature with Jaguar? Or is there some Preference or View I need to set? (The Preferences command is greyed out on the Apple System Profiler menu)It just seems strange to me that I can't get specific info on the currently installed RAM

    Patroklus,
That is what is showing on the right hand side of the page, correct?
What I listed, is what is in the left column of System Profiler, when all of the Disclosure Triangles are clicked, and pointing down.
I then click on Memory, to highlight it, and on the right side of the Profiler,
    my Memory Slots are displayed.

  • Firewire Drive in System Profiler But Not In Finder?

I have a 2.3 MBP with a Seagate FreeAgent 1 TB drive attached via FW 400.
Just yesterday, it wont show up in the finder, but does in Apple System Profiler. This drive is full of iMovie Events I'd hate to lose.
Is there a way using Unix to try to mount it? Any suggestions will be welcomed.
    Tom

After unplugging power and firewire from the device try refreshing System Profiler. Refresh in System Profiler can be found under View OR Command R will do it. I use this all the time when I loose either USB or Firewire Connections and nothing else, such as unplugging, doesn't work.

  • System Profiler yes, iPhoto no

When I hook up my digital camera to my G4 via USB, System Profiler recognizes the camera, complete with vendor, model, etc. However iPhoto does not see an attached camera, and nothing appears on the desktop to represent the camera.
This is a very low-end camera called a Vivitar Mini and is not on the list of approved cameras at the iPhoto web page.
It comes with PC only software (ArcSoft Photo Impression 4.0).
I have tried other digital camera software: RAW Developer Demo, ImageIngester and RPP360,but none of these can see the camera.
The camera holds 20 images from my niece's HS graduation that I would like to save. I realize that I could borrow a PC, install the SW and do it that way, but would like to be able to use the camera in the future with my Mac. Is there any other software out there that I might try?

    fflynn:
Does the camera have a removable memory card? If so then you can buy a card reader and upload from that via the Finder. Also see if Smtr's suggestion of using Image Capture will work. If so, you're home free.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • 10.3 System Profiler problems

Hi, I've just installed OSX 10.3 and done all the updates but when I try and open the system profiler I get the following error message -
'The application Apple System Profiler has unexpectedly quit. The system and other applications have not been affected.
Would you like to submit a bug report to Apple?'
I tried about ten times and I'm getting nowhere. Just the same error message. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    madcap3,
According to Mac OS X: Issues After System Fonts Removed or Relocated: Applications, including Apple System Profiler, TextEdit, Address Book, and Safari, may unexpectedly quit if System fonts are deleted or moved from /System/Library/Fonts.I would recommend that you check out Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang.

I have both a MacBook Pro and macair but the pro won't let me in I think it something to do with hard disc or permissions as it says system profiler in utilities , if anyone could help I'd be very grateful

Restart the MBP and immediately hold the option key down. Release the key when you see the Apple logo. The computer will boot and show you a screen with two hard drive icons.
    Select Recovery and hit Return.
On the new screen, select Disk Utility and hit Return.
    In DU do this:
In the list at the left, select the name of your hard drive. (Be sure to select the name that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
When that is done, click Repair Permissions. Be patient!
When that is done, quit DU and restart in the usual way.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The hard drive is not formatted, and it must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to install OS X.
Close the OS X installer, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility. Then, format your hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as Format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X

  • I'm trying to use a madcatz controller on the mac but it turns on for 2 seconds and turns off. the system profiler picks it up as a xbox 360 gamepad but says its not been configured. how can i allow my self use this with my games.

i'm trying to use a madcatz controller on the mac but it turns on for 2 seconds and turns off. the system profiler picks it up as a xbox 360 gamepad but says its not been configured. how can i allow my self use this with my games!

I have exactly the same problem.
I'm a little peed-off with Microsoft on this. The original wireless controller I have doesn't work either since the cable I'm using is 'just' the charge and play cable, so a direct connection to my Mac won't work with this cable. It's a cable for god's sake. Why on EARTH put any limitations on this!?!?
Next I learn I need an additional USB wireless receiver from Microsoft to get my original 360 controller to talk to my Mac. As I certainly don't want to fork any more microsoft dollars on this, this is not an option.
Next I think, yes! I have a MadCatz 360 wired USB controller. This should surely do the trick just plugging it in and the way I go. But oh no, for some reason I plug my MadCatz Xbox360 controller in, it flashes a few times then switches off and can't be turned on again.
The System Profiles recognizes it as a MadCatz 360 device controller but that is about it, but the ontroller software I download for the System Prefs (360Controller, USBOverdrive etc) don't even recognize the controller as being plugged in.
What the **** Is The Microsoft Deal with all of this!?!?
PS: Oh, and I forgot to mention, there are No drivers for device 4716 that I can find on the MadCatz website, or am I going blind?
If anyone has a link, it would be appreciated.

  • I tried to open a third party download with system profiler

I tried to open download with system profiler. I know stupid. I know nothing about all this.
Now I can't get the sytem profiler icon off the application download. It is an Internet Sweeper or something. I want to uninstall it but I can't. Otherwise it doesn't matter. It is just sitting and doing nothing.

Have you tried restarting your MacBook?
What do you mean by restarting?

I have an Imac  operating system 10.4.1 and Apple Works 6 and am having problems with Aplle Works 6. It shuts down before I am finished. Is there a place I can download Apple Works 6 onto my computer free?

AppleWorks has never been available for legal download.
Have you done the usual trouble shooting steps:
    Quit AppleWorks
Delete most or all of the Recent Items list.
Remove the Preferences files to the Desktop or to the Trash.
Launch AppleWorks to see if the problems remain.
    You'll find Recent Items in:
username > Documents > AppleWorks User Documents > Starting Points > Recent Items
    There are several preferences files.
    Go to:
    username > Library > Preferences
Locate, select and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
Still in the Preferences floder, locate and open the folder AppleWorks.
Select and delete the two Cache files and the Preferences file.
Button Bars is also a preferences file, but may be left where it is IF you have no problems that appear related to the Button Bar, and wish to preserve any changes you've made to the Button Bar.

  • Can I run PSE 8 with Mac OS X 10.8.2? Install hangs at 'checking system profile'

    Hi
I had to replace my iMac hard drive a few months ago and installed Mac OS X 10.8.2 (having been running something a bit older).  I have just tried to install PSE 8 from disc (which worked quite happily on my earlier OS X version) and it hangs when the install gets to 'checking system profile'.    Should it install or do I need to get a later version of PSE?
    Thanks

Don't think that this will work, despite PSE 8 not being that old. Undoubtedly some of the security and file system changes in OSX 10.7 and 10.8 are at play here thast the installer can't cope with... Consider getting PSE 11.
