Apple wants 340$ for repair...

Hey,
I am really mad at apple right now.
I own a MacBook pro and it was one of the first shipped (that meens in Febuary 2006)...
Since a few months I have the problem, that my MacBook Pro is making a buzzing sound all the time...
Today I went to Apple Store and they said me, it would have something to do with the display, but that I would have to pay 340$ for it. I meen I thought really Apple would have better service there.
What would you do??? Is there a possibility to call Apple and get it maybe cheaper or so... Thank you

Yep, sometimes credit card companies will automatically extend the warranty given by the manufacturer if you purchased something with them. Call your credit card company to find out.
As for Apple being unfriendly, that's typically not the case. If you have a complaint about a service representative, don't hang up, politely ask for a case number, and then call back and ask to speak to customer relations to give them your complaint. They are the branch of AppleCare which needs to hear about any "unfriendly" service.
Some repairs out of warranty can be done by these places for less than Apple:

No. Apple does not charge. It is entirely up to he carrier to set conditions and fees for unlocking.

Details matter. You didn't say your phone was only 3 months old. In fact you said in your opening statement your phone was no longer under warranty.

  • How much would Apple charge me for repairs?

Apple told me that they would charge me up to $359.00 for my ipod touch They said "If apple confirms that service is covered but you fail to follow instructions on returning the part, you will be charged a non return fee of $359.00" Why is it so much? My iPod cost less than that!

    - Unless the iPod is unrepairable, Apple will exchange the iPod for a refurbished one for this price:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
    - Are you contacting Apple or an Authorized Service Provider?

  • If I send in my Apple Earpods in for repair will they charge me anything cause my parents won't fill out the info unless they know they don't have to pay anything?

A couple of days ago my iPod 5Generation cracked and I had to get a new one, and when I opened up the box the Earpods were all bent and scratched up. I was wondering if Apple will replace them if they were broken when they were bought. My iPod 5Generation is under a warranty with Best Buy. Also, it was under warranty before it broke. Please Help???

I believe they will, yes, but customer support might know better.

  • Pay for repair service available at Apple?

Totally teardown a iphone 4, but start no GSM service or 1 bar of GSM service signal, Apple accept pay for repair service if device teardown and broken by self?

They probably wont fix it for you because i don't think their trained or equipped for that but they'll probably take in your warranty voided iPhone 4 and give you a replacement unit for about $200.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 & cracked its screen. Apple wants me to pay for replacement unit (I agree), turn in my old phone (??) & wait for 6 days (no problem). What do I do to access emails, Internet & make/receive calls during these 6 days?

I dropped my iPhone 4 & cracked its screen. I went to the service center to get it repaired. SInce it is not under warranty, i was willing to pay for repair charges.
They told me that the screen can not be repaired or changed, but they can replace my damaged set with an equivalent set, on payment of RM 760, roughly, 25-30% cost of a new one. I agreed.
    They told me to:
    1/ pay upfront
2/ leave my old set with them
3/ and the replacement unit will be delivered in 4-6 days.
I agreed on 1& 3 but not to leave my damaged set with them because it is still working and I don't have another spare phone with me, to serve me the 4-6 day waiting period.
THe service center guy told me that if I want a replacement, I have to agree to all 3 conditions and that I should buy another phone for 6 days. I told him that I constantly need email & Internet access, as part of my work responsibilities, so I can not do with a simple phone. It obviously, doesn't make sense to buy an expensive smart phone, go thru the trouble of transferring my data & mails & contacts - just for a week.
Unfortunately, all these logics fell on deaf ears & the service centre guy kept insisting on ALL of the above conditions.
I came back so flustered & upset.
I thought customer service was about solving problems & not creating hurdles for customers.
    what should I do?
    ANy advice?

What would you do for transportation if you drove your car into a tree and had to wait while it was fixed? You'd need to rent, borrow or buy another car, no? The same applies to your phone. This is not Apple's problem; if the service center does not have replacements in stock for immediate swap-out, then it's up to you to provide a backup device or do without.
If you're in a country where Apple provides direct service for iPhones, you may be able to call Apple support and arrange for advance replacement, where they send you the replacement phone and then you send back the old one. Apple offers such service in several countries, though you have to pay an extra fee for the service. If not, then you'll just have to wait for the service center to get in the replacement, and will have to arrange an alternative to use during that time.
    Regars.

  • I purchased a Mac book pro in oct 2011, I restarted it after updating and it,s stuck on apple symbol, I hit command R while restarting and clicked on disk utility. It says disk can't be repaired, apple wants $249 to tell me what's wrong. Please help!

What Apple store told you they wanted $249.00 to tell what is wrong?
If this is a 13" Macbook Pro then that is the cost of the Extended Applecare warranty. As you are outside the 90 days of Free Phone Support then what Apple told you is that to get Phone Support you would either need to pay $45 per phone call or pay $249.00 for the Applecare extended warranty which comes with 3 years Free Phone Support from date of purchase.
Or you can take it to a Apple Genius Bar and have them look at it for Free.
Every Mac comes with 1 year warranty and includes only 90 days of phone support. You can buy the extended Applecare warranty anytime within the first year of ownership, IE until the 1 year warranty runs out.
I suggest you have your computer looked at by either an Apple Authorized Repair Center or Genius Bar and then before the 1 year warranty runs out buying the extended warranty

  • Can a friend bring in my laptop for repair to an apple store?

Hi I am an American living in Italy. I have a friend who's going into NYC and I wanted to know if he could take my macbook into for repair with my warranty? Does he need to bring my ID or a signed approval?
    Thanks

My suggestion would be to have your friemd ask what ID is required when he calls the store for the appointment to deliver the MB.
I know when I took an iMac in for a friend, I asked and the Apple Store I was taking it to said that there was no problem.

  • Apple warranty in Indonesia: any value and iphone 5c that the supplier does not want to authorized repair

Dear Apple, Apple users and expats in Indonesia,
i want submit in this community a very strange and bad " adventure " with my iphone 5c here in Indonesia:
i have bought my item in Thailand in October 2013, and actually i live in Indonesia. I have broken with an accident the screen and the button of my iphone 5c, and the authorized service seller in Bali " GLOBAL ", with a lot of lies ( because they have tell me very clearly " you don' t have bought the item from us " ), be refused to replace my phone ( under warranty ), with my personal payment ( official Apple price list and claims/terms and conditions ) for change screen and button....but NOTHING!
I' m coming today at IBOX ( Premium apple reseller and service  ), and same story and situation with them.
Dear Apple, a lot of expat in this " special country ", where the INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY, don' t have any rule....please TELL US, how repair our items!
TELL US: for repair we need to go in Singapore, and for all your Clients they don' t possible travel in Singapore.....WE NEED TO PUT IN THE GARBAGE OUR ITEMS?!
    KInd Regards

You don't seem to understand: the iPhone warranty is NOT INTERNATIONAL. This is different from other Apple products (e.g. laptops, desktops, etc) where the warranty IS international.  AppleCare+ is irrelevant. Get it now?
You will never be able to get your iPhone serviced in Indonesia, and it really does not matter that there are "many people like you" in Indonesia.

  • My home button is not working sometimes and at the store they dont want to take it for repair because the problem did not show up at that time

My home button is not working sometimes and at the store they dont want to take it for repair because the problem did not show up at that time

When normally powering the phone, there would not be a loading bar, you would just see the Apple logo. You can try a reset of the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.
You can take the phone to Apple, by making an appointment at the Genius Bar to have the hardware checked. Apple handles warranty and post-warranty issues, not Verizon. Have Apple look at the hardware to see if there are any problems.

It appears that you may not have a properly installed OS X system.
You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
In the menu bar, choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Disk Utility,” and then click Continue.
Select your startup disk from the list on the left, and then Repair Disk.
After disk is repaired, select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk

  • IPad security When taking to the Apple store for repairs

I'm taking my iPad to the Apple store today. I'm logged onto most of my social sites, etc. How do I make my iPad secure so no one looks at my photos or any other info like my emails when it goes in for repair.

Granted my experience was best buy, not an apple store, but I returned my iPad a couple of years ago because it had an issue. Best Buy exchanged it and before I gave them my old one I asked and they let me go in and 'erase all content and settings', which wiped it clean.
Apple and Best Buy do have strict rules about customer data but they don't and can't make promises, probably due to liability issues. So doing it yourself is the one way to make sure, and I have yet to run into any store person that wouldn't allow the user to wipe the device.
If the employee balks, ask to talk to a manager and just tell them you want it wiped. You should have no issue at all. Honestly, I don't think they want access to your data any more than you want them to have it.

  • How Do You Contact Apple for Repair?

Hey i want to send my mac off for repair but i don't knwo how to contact them so i can send it off. Any suggestions?

The number to call depends on your location! Also, if you have one or more apple stores near you.
I live in the Philadelphia area, and we have 3 Apple stores within a 1 hour drive. On Sunday (12/31) the power supply died on my iMac G5. I could not get an appt at the nearest Apple store, but got one at the second closest. They told me that it would be 3 days to replace the power supply because they needed to order the part. I asked them to check other stores, and in fact the one farthest from me had the part. I drove there in about 1 hour, was seen immediately (the genius at the first apple store made an appt for me) and the repair was completed in 10 minutes, saving me 2 days, 22 hours and 50 minutes.
    Good luck!
