Apple wo t repair my iPod as the believe it's accidental damage or abuse

I updated my iPod to the new OS on September 29th. From that very moment the update bar filled and my iPod went a shade of blue, no apple logo nothing. Wouldn't turn off. They suggested try to restore it from iTunes, wouldn't restore. Now they won't repair and my warranty is good until December. It's never been dropped its never been wet it certainly hasn't been abused :( I'm so frustrated. I also have an iPad 2 and I'm scared to update it now. I won't be buying anymore apple anything.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Will the retail Apple Store replace/repair my iPod

Do I have to send in my broken iPod to Apple, or can I simply take it to my local Apple store for repair?
    Thanks

Many people have posted here that they got their iPod exchanged at a store. I think (but don't know) that it would depend on how old the iPod is.
As to whether the replaced iPod would be a new or refurbished one, I would think (again, I don't know) it would be new as the Apple stores don't carry refurbs as far as I know.
The only people who can give a you a definitive answer to your questions of course are the folks at the Apple store.

  • Apple won't repair my ipod touch gen 4

My Ipod touch 4th gen. Wouldn't connect to computer or charger. It had enough battery to see that it was still working but wouldn't connect. It was still under warranty. So I sent it in. One day later they sent it back and said I did something to it and they weren't going to fix it. I don't know what I did to it and I can't even pay them to fix it. Does that mean it's to bad to fix. It was working when I sent it back other than not connecting. What could be so wrong with it.  Help please

Just exactly did they say? It appears that you abused your iPod and that voids the warranty. Apple should still exchange the iPod for a refurbished one for this price as an out-of-warranty service. See:

  • Apple refuses to repair my iPod classic under warranty

We are a total Apple family who CURRENTLY own 5 Macbook Pro's, one iPad, one desktop Mac, three iPod classics, three iPods and 6 iPhones. Not to mention all of the Apple products we have owned in the past. How much more can we support your product?  We have never had a dispute with Apple over service, but the decision to refuse to repair my ipod under warranty because of damage or misuse is absolutely inaccurate. What is my recourse for disputing this decision?

First of all, you are not talking to Apple here, this is a user-to-user forum.
Warranty is there to protect you from failures in the manufacturing process. It is not there to pay for problems you cause or create, even if it was accidental.
If Apple have determined that the fault with your iPod is due to misuse, or damage, by someone who had access to the iPod after they sold it to you, and not due to a fault in the manufacturing process, I'm not sure there's anything you can do. I supose you could contact Apple again, appealing their decision, but I wouldn't hold out much hope of that resolving the issue, because these things are usually clear cut.
It's not in Apple's interests to refuse you warranty if their product was not up to their own standard, so that suggests that their diagnosis was accurate.

  • Apple will not repair my ipod touch under warranty, they said it was accidentally damaged or misused, I disagree, what can I do now?

    Do have any other recourse?

You could try talking to someone different, but if the answer is the same then it is unlikely to change. What are the specifics of the issue? Cracked screen? Liquid damage? Apple usually has ways to be pretty certain whether or not a device was accidentally damaged.

  • Is there any way Apple could trace my lost ipod with the help of its serial number ?

unfortunately my ipod might have been stolen, there has to be a way apple can trace it with its serial number rite? all products have a unique serial number cant there be a way to trace where it might be under use, what IP address it was last connected to? Ive installed find my ipod/iphone app and activated the application BUT after updating i realized that the settings for it have changed and you have to reactivate the find my ipod option from the icloud setting or something which is SAD! come on apple can obviously help out on this ! or atleast put up a portal for users to trace their product if such a situation arises. I might not be a computer wizard but im sure there can be a way to trace it with its unique serial code.
I hope apple can do something here!

There is no way to trace your iPod by serial number. Only via the Find My iPod service can an iPod be located, and if you didn't reactivate it, or the finder/thief deactivated the service (or the iPod is off or not connected to WiFi), then tracing your iPod is impossible. Contact the police, if you haven't already done so, and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).
    Regards.

  • Can you call apple to track a missing ipod with the serial number?

i lost my ipod or soeone must have stolen it..i did not have any tracking devices or gps apps on it...can apple track it through the serial number?

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • HT3743 If my ipod5th gen is jailbroken will Apple still replace the screen...Ihave the extra 2 year warrenty meaning i have 2 accidental damage things.Or will i have to erase every thing the put in the back up.

    The title says it all

Jailbreaking voids the warranty. Apple will not repair your iPod and as soon as they realise it's been jailbroken, they will return it to you in the same condition that you sent it to them.

  • Repair costs ipod touch 4g

i have an ipod touch 4g and i dropped it, the whole screen cracked and also the volume buttons power buttons, wi fi would not pick up, so i ordered a new digitizer and when i opened it up the ipod the copper connector appeared to have ripped, how much would it cost to repair?

You'll need to contact an independent iPod repair service and ask. Apple will not repair your iPod - they don't repair defective iPods, they replace them for a flat fee. And since you've taken yours apart, they may well refuse to touch it at this point, though you can ask at an Apple Store if you wish. Apple's replacement charges can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
    Regards.

  • How Much do Apple charge for repairs

just want to find out how much apple charge for repairs of Ipod

I don't know any exact numbers, but I'm sure it would depend on what is wrong with the iPod.
If you have an Apple Store nearby, make a reservation at the +Genius Bar+ (using the web page for the store) and take it there.

  • Will a Aplle store replace my ipod if the screen is broke?

Will a Apple store replace my iPod touch if the screen is broken and i don't have warranty?

they will gladly replace it but there is a small service fee of the full retail price of a new model.  applecare and the warranty doesnt cover accidental damage, sorry.
depending on the extent of the damage you can put on one of the screen protectors to keep from cutting yourself/causing more damage or pay for a repair.

  • Repairs denied due to misuse or accidental damage

Daughter's ipod charging port got damaged and apple won't fix it due to misuse or accidental damage. Does this sound right to anyone? Should I take it to an apple store for repair?

    bmmcwhite wrote:
so plugging and unplugging the charging cord is accidental damage?
It can be.  Especially if you try to force the dock connector in when it is upside down...  That is exactly how my 12 year old grandson broke his 2nd gen.

  • I just got an iPod touch 5th generation back in November and while I was out in my garage trying to find something on a shelf while standing on a stool, I dropped my iPod touch the screen cracked a bit- anyone know repair prices from Apple?

So I dropped it... And the screen cracked a bit. It's fairly new (got it in November) but I noticed Apple doesn't cover accidents like mine. Anyone know the prices for getting a replacement/ repair? It's not that bad of a crack, but it's annoying and new so..Yah. Any help with prices for a replacement/warranty would be helpful and on how I should do it. Maybe I can get a replacement for cheap or free cuz I got it recently and I've never complained to Apple before? I know it's my mistake but I'd be thankful if you guys could help! Thanks!

Sorry, but the warranty does not cover accidental damage no matter how recently you got your iPod. As to servicing, Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". It is also possible to purchase parts and find instructions on doing a repair yourself, though it's not particularly easy. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform a repair yourself, all further support from Apple will be void.
    Regards.

  • Will apple send me a new ipod touch if they cant repair the screen

will apple send me a new ipod touch if they cant repair the screen

No.  They will likely replace your iPod with a refurbished iPod of the same model and refurbish yours for later use as a replacement if it is economical to do so.

  • Ipod Nano 6th Gen damaged Apple won't repair...any options?

I have had my Ipod Nano 6th gen for about 8 months and used it religiously during work outs...unfortunately I sweat a lot and apparently this will damage Ipod Nano to the point that Apple considers this to be outside the guidelines of normal manufacturer warranty.  I am a little frustrated by this as I spend a fair amount of money on Apple products every year.  Any advice on what I can do other than just sell it as damaged on eBay?

The best thing to do is consult Genius Bar. But as you have already said Apple does not honor the cause of damage and therefore not eligible for replacement. I recommend to visit an apple technical support to confirm the initial assessment.
You can try the out-of-warranty repair and determine how much it will cost you to repair. But try to weigh in cost of repair vs. a new replacement. Here is apple's statement about out-of-warranty repair.
If you want to set up your iPod for the Out-of-warranty service, we recommend that you take your iPod to a local Apple Retail Store. Alternatively, you can contact Apple Technical Support.
For more details, please refer to the Repair Pricing tab on the left.
If Apple determines that an iPod is not repairable, for example, if it has failed due catastrophic damage or the iPod has been disassembled into multiple pieces, then Out-of-Warranty Service is not available and the iPod will be returned. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.
