Applecare auto transfer

Question

they replaced defective Ipod classic with refurb that's gone bad but, applecare wasn't auto transferred to refurbed replacement.
Now, none of s/n match anything! The s/n internally doesn't even match the engraved s/n.
Gotta find the original receipt if possible from 12/07

Not suspicious at all. That's what I was trying to explain. If every refurb replacement came with a one year warranty, you could, conceivably, keep extending your warranty. That would hardly be cost effective for Apple. As I said, it's a policy issue, not related to the quality of the refurb.
And, where do you think refurbs come from? They're repaired items. When you send your iPod in for warranty service, Apple verifies the problem then notifies the shipper (DHL, I think) to send out a refurbed unit. This means your turn around time is about seven days. Apple then repairs and refurbs your original unit which could take longer than seven days and puts it back into the system. Very early in the product life, the warranty replacement units are probably brand new items. Returned units probably also go into the system.
