AppleScript for recurring events in Outlook calendar

I'm trying to write an AppleScript that will create a new appointment with properties that are derived from the properties of a specific appointment that is part of a recurring series in an Outlook calendar.
Outlook 14.2.5
AppleScript Editor version 2.3
In the Microsoft Outlook window in the editor, the calendar event help information shows two distinct properties:
is recurring (boolean, r/o):  Indicates whehter an event is part of a recurring series of events.    (the typo in "whehter" is actually in the help information!)
is occurrence (boolean, r/o) : Indicates whether an event is an occurrence of a recurring series
I don't understand the difference between these two.  If I have a series of appointment (say one meeting every day for three days), and I have selected the second appointment in that series, "is occurrence" is false, but "is recurring" is true.  What is the difference?
My ultimate objective is to extract the start time of the specific appointment that is selected, but when I use the "start time" property of the selection (the second appointment in the series of three appointments), my script is returning the start date/time of the first appointment in the series.
set selectedEvent to selection
set startTime to start time of selectedEvent   <-- this is returning the start time of the first appointment in the series - not the start time of the particular occurrence that is selected in the calendar (which is what I actually want)

  • Alerts for recurring events in iCal no longer display on iPhone after iOS5 upgrade

That pretty much says it.  I have a daily meeting in my iCal, with two alarms set, one for 15 minutes before and one for 5 minutes before.  The alerts no longer display on my phone after the upgrade.  (They appear on my Mac no problem.)  Has anyone else seen this problem?  I have notifications turned on for iCal , set to Alerts.  Tried badges, tried turning notifications off then on, to no avail.  It doesn't display for recurring events that were in my calendar before the upgrade and for those created after the upgrade.  I don't seem to have a problem with regular i.e. non-recurring events.  Doesn't seem to matte also if it is the default calendar or a different calendar either.  (I tried Reminders and that worked fine, but I don't want to have type all of my recurring events in to iCal and then in to Reminders as well....)
    Thanks very much

I'm having the same problem on my iMac (works on a different phone on my MBP). I restored the iphone and no dice. I'm also constantly getting a beach ball... Hope someone out there knows a workaround.

  • TS3999 Why can't I delete a recurring event on my calendar?  Every time I delete it, it show up again within a few minutes.

Why can't I delete a recurring event on my calendar?  Every time I delete it, it show up again within a few minutes.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I did take a look at the Jira issue you referenced. It suggests that the MediaPlayer be set to null in the MediaView after the last media file has been played and nullify the MediaPlayer reference. However, all this relies on GC to cleanup the resources. (In fact, the sample code in Jira shows a call to System.gc(), which, I understand, is not guaranteed to run immediately.)
All the same, I tried the suggestion, but it didn't help my situation. So I am stuck with my alternative.
It is rather disheartening that there is not a clear cut API for cleaning up media resources when you are done, instead of being dependent on GC.
    Thanks again.

  • Do not show dots for 'free' events in the calendar month view

I wish I could.... not show dots for 'free' events in the calendar month view. For an overview of when I have hard-scheduled events in the calendar it's pretty tedious and slow to go day -by day, and other views... Instead the dot  in the month view... - why does it show even "free" events? Any ideas, tips?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately there is no option to disable the dots.

  • How do i get calendar syncing recurring events from outlook to iphone to handle daylight saving time

When I sync recurring events of my PC Outlook on to the iPhone calendar they appear one hour later during summer i.e. between Mar 26th and October 27. I have a weekly thing every wednesday at 8pm that appears at 9pm in summer - so outlook seems to be sending the info in UTC time but the IPhone isn't compensating for summer time.

What do you mean "correctly". If I enter a recurring (weekly) event in Outlook at say 8pm every Monday from February till December, then Outlook calendar propagates it at 8pm every Monday from February till December, and I can see it on each Monday regardless of whether it's standard time or summer time. However when I sync with the iPhone calendar through iTunes it transmits just the start date/time and end date, and the iPhone then recreates the series of events (provable because it creates occurences that I have deleted on Outlook). However it propagates the UTC time at the start date, and gets confused by the change to Summer Time in March (and Ocotber). The iphone "corrects" the (UTC) time for Summer Time so it starts at 8pm, all summer the event appears at 7pm, and goes back to 8 in November. I have tested across both boundaries - if a recurrence starts in summer time at 8pm then from November it gets an hour later, 9pm. And you can't solve it by turning off Local Time handling on the iPhone because then all individual events through the summer are an hour out. This is a bug.
Workaround - enter separate recurrent events for each time period, so in a calendar year 3 events: Jan-end March, April-end October, Nov-Dec

  • Sync end date of custom recurring events? - Outlook to iPod touch calendar

I've been having a particular problem with my "nonstandard" recurring appointments in Outlook that give rise to a custom recurring definition in the iPod touch I just got (software 2.1.1) when I sync with iTunes (8.0.0.35) on Windows XP by USB - I can't seem to get the end date (when there is one) to be sent to the iPod! So, for example, if I have a standard once a week event over the summer, it ends properly based on the end date, but if I have say an event every Monday and Thursday over the summer, the iPod has a "custom" recurring event definition created, but no space and no evidence of the end date, and the events keep getting shown after the Outlook defined end date (continuing after summer in this example).
I tried something called CompanionLink to see if I could get a more thorough sync, but it seems to rely on the iTunes sync. I had become used to Pocket Informant on my old Pocket PC (until the Pocket PC was just crashing too often to be functional, thus the recent purchase of an iPod touch - which even if the calendar won't sync completely has allowed me to move enough programs off the Pocket PC to have it trimmed down and working better again!). I hear the people that make Pocket Informant are working on an iPhone / iPod touch version.
In the meantime, any suggestions about the lack of end date syncing for custom recurring events, other than waiting for an Apple update (how, by the way, can i make a request to Apple? - it wasn't too clear to me on this website).
    Thanks!

  • Recurring events in outlook not showing on iPhone

    Hi,
    Trust you all are well.
    I have outlook 2010 with exchange 2003 + iPhone 5.
I have recurring calendar events setup in my outlook calendar, when I edit a recurring event in my outlook the updated request does not sync with my iPhone and does not for example – move the event to a new time slot or date on the iPhone, but the changes do reflect in outlook + all the other recipients receives the new time or date change.  When I change the recurring event on my iPhone the changes take effect on the iPhone, but the changes does not reflect in outlook.  This is really frustrating as meeting is missed and it causes confusion among the recipients if a meeting is still on on not when traveling and using the mobile device.  What can I do to get this solved – This only happens with the recurring events, with a normal calendar event I’m able to change on the iPhone to another date or time and this do update the outlook calendar.
Please let me know what I must do to get this sorted – we are in the process of upgrading our Exchange Server to – Exchange Server 2013, but we have some complications with the upgrades and might still take a while.

I am having the same question with my iPhone 5.  I'd love to know if you found a solution to this problem.

  • Issue with Copy of events from Outlook Calendar to SharePoint 2010 calendar(mapped in outlook)

There is a issue while copying events in Outlook mapped SharePoint 2010 Calendar.
This issue only seems to happen when user copies an event from his Outlook calendar to the SharePoint 2010 calendar.
He is able to create a new event in the SharePoint calendar from Outlook.
He tried below steps, but still no success
    1.
    Open your Outlook calendar.
    2. Open the event you want to copy.
    3. From the File menu, select Info.
    4. Click the Move to Folder button.
    5. In the Copy Items To dialog box, scroll down to the SharePoint Lists item and select the SharePoint calendar to which you want to copy the event.
    6. Click the OK button.
    7. Click the Yes button when prompted to continue.
Please let me know if there is any possible solution for it.

    Hi,
I have done a test as your steps. I am able to copy an event from my Outlook calendar to the SharePoint 2010 calendar.
    1. I suggest you test in another compute, perhaps your Outlook results to that issue.
    2. Please create a new site collection, then test again, compare the result.
    3. Maybe it will take some time before the copied event displays in the SharePoint 2010 calendar. So, wait a minute, compare the result.

  • Select multiple days for recurring event?

    Hi,
I have a recurring event (days when I am scheduled to work) at various days throughout each month- not recurring on a regular basis. It's tedious to select each day and then enter "on call" for each day. I'm looking for some way to select multiple days throughout the month and then have that same event entered for all of them. Perhaps with automator or an applescript? Thanks.

    Hi Arthur,
It would be quite possible to write a solution to this problem with Applescript. If you're interested in this option go to www.nhoj.co.uk and send me an email.

  • AppleScript and Recurring Events

I'm trying to create an AppleScript that will, essentially, e-mail every event for the week to Remember The Milk so that, on the iPhone, I can pull up Appigo's To Do and get an overview of everything I have to do for the day-- both RTM tasks and iCal events. For all non-recurring events, I'm in great shape.
The problem, of course, is the way iCal handles recurring events and start dates. Because it considers the start date to be only the first occurrence of a recurring event, they're excluded when start dates are used to get only those events that occur within a specific timeframe.
I can get all of my recurring events rather easily (although if anyone knows of better way than +...whose recurrence is not ""+ I'd be in your debt), but I don't want to sync every instance of the event. When regular appointments are canceled/rescheduled, I don't want to have to change them in multiple locations.
Is there a way to get AppleScript to work with only a single occurrence of a recurring event? (Or, preferably, several single occurrences, considering that I've got anywhere between ten and thirty recurring events, depending on the week.)
I had the thought of, before syncing every week, deleting any previous occurrence of a recurring event, but the script prompts me for the number of days I want to sync each time it runs, and I can foresee wanting to sync two or three weeks at a time, in which case simply deleting the event doesn't really solve the problem anyway.

Several lines of the “broken” script seem to be badly written, for example:
set root_Folder to rootFolder as alias -- rootFolder instead of root_Folder
set events_Folder to events_Foler as alias -- Foler instead of Folder

  • Using a different color for each event in a calendar?

I don't know if this is possible. If I have a calendar that is green. Every event I set up in that calendar is green. So if you have a full day of events each day on the calendar just looks like this mass of green.
Is there any way (as I've seen in other calendar apps.) to change the color for each event so that they stand out more.
I see references on the net to an iCal plugin called iCalibrate which seems to do this but it also doesn't seem to be available any more? But it said...
" iCalibrate 1.3 can now change any color, anywhere in any of your calendars"
That's pretty much what I'd like to be able to do.
    Pat.

Ok I found a similar question on this forum that was answered and helped. If anyone comes across this wondering the same thing, copy and paste your SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css file and rename the copy to something like "(Title_Of_Page)SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" and then replace "SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" in your code to <link href="../SpryAssets/(Title_Of_Page)SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" and then you are good to go.

  • Copy a recurring event to second calendar

I've created a recurring event, which I have also modified - meaning I have deleted a couple of recurrances. Now I want to copy that event to a public calendar, but still want to keep it in my own calendar as I usually have the public one turned off, as there are a lot of events in there which are not important to me.
When I move the event without copying, it works perfectly, but when I try to copy the event, iCal only lets me copy one recurrance. Is there a trick to copy the whole event?
Or is there a way to see only specific events of a calendar? If it was possible to only see one event of a calendar I'd be happy, too.
    I'm using Version 4.0.4 (1395)

Found a way: first create a test calendar, move event to test calendar, then export said test calendar and then import test calender into as many other calendars as you like.

  • User unable to create recurring events on public calendar.

As the title says, I have a user that is unable to create recurring events on a public calendar.
I have given full rights to the user even as owner and it still will not create recurring events.
I'm convinced its a permissions issue, but have no idea where to look any more. I've temporarily added the user in domain admins just to test, and it works! Why would this fix it? Why is being set as owner of the calendar not enough?
She just keeps getting "You do not have permission to modify some or all of these items in this folder."

What rights does she have on the folder?  You might try revoking her rights, then adding them back.
Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
Rights were set to Publishing Editor.
I changed the permissions to none and even removed folder visible. Confirmed she had no access and added them back. Still fails.
Then removed user account from permissions list, confirmed, added back, tested, failed.

  • Ical - send event to outlook calendar

I have a cold fusion event page that data comes from database it has a title – event description – start date - end date
I need to have a button beside each event that user push that button and event goes to user's calendar in outlook. I think I can use ical but not sure how. Is there anybody can help I really appreciate it.
    Thanks,

    1. Create and save an event in Outlook.
    2. Open that event and go File > Save As to save it to your desktop in the .ics format.
    3. Open the saved file in Notepad to view the code.
Now that you've seen what the behind-the-scenes files look like that make up the events in Outlook, you need only to use ColdFusion to create one of these files. You'll also want to place:
    <CFHEADER NAME="Content-Disposition" VALUE="inline; filename=events.vcs">
    <CFCONTENT TYPE="text/x-vcalendar">
at the start of the CF template that creates these files.
