Applescript: prepend a string with folder name

I’ve found this script that copies the names of multiple selected files in the Finder to clipboard:
try
     set theNames to {}
     tell application "Finder"
          repeat with i in (get selection)
               set end of theNames to name of i
          end repeat
       end tell
     set {TID, text item delimiters} to {text item delimiters, return}
     set the clipboard to theNames as text
     set text item delimiters to TID
end try
I need to prepend to each result a string like "www.domain-name.ext/folder", where “folder” is the parent folder relative to the files.
How can I do it? Thanks in advance.

You can do something like:
try
   set theNames to {}
   tell application "Finder"
      repeat with i in (get selection)
          set parentName to name of container of i
          set end of theNames to "www.domain-name.ext/" & parentName & "/" & name of i
      end repeat
    end tell
    if theNames is not {} then
      set {TID, text item delimiters} to {text item delimiters, return}
      set the clipboard to theNames as text
      set text item delimiters to TID
    end if
on error errmess
    log errmess
end try

  • Apple script to replace content in specific folders with folder names in csv

    Can anyone please help me with this scenario... It would greatly be appreciated!
    1. I have a list in csv containing 3 columns: Column 1 = Folder name • Column 2 = Entry A • Column 3 = Entry B
    2. I have 100 folders named the same as Column 1.  in each folder there is different files.
    This is what I need.
    I need the script to to find the folder based upon column 1.
    Then the script should search for place holder named "Entry A" and replace it's contents with data from Column 2.  There are several files with in the folder that contain place holder "Entry A" so it should replace it all but must remain with in that folder.
    Then same for column 3 find place holder named Entry B and replace.
    Then it should save all files.

  • Conflict with folder names in Source Path

    I'm trying to include two source folders, both named src - my Flash Builder project only allows one - doesn't show the second. One reference uses an absolute path on an external drive to my source and the other a relative path to the fl.motion classes. I can rename my source folder but it's referenced in a lot of projects and I was hoping there was another solution.

    Thanks for the reply. I was able to accomplish the result based on your directions. There were a few minor things I had to adjust:
    - File->New->File should read File->New->Folder
    - also, I discovered when adding the new virtual folder to the source path there is no GUI file dialog to find and pick it - it requires that you enter the new file name.
    However, great advice and thanks for the solve.

  • Getting a complete portion of an XML String (With tag names)

    Im working on an application that processes a huge amount of xml strings. Im using xpath since it makes it much easier to select and navigate through the tags. The only thing I can't do is get a complete portion of an XML string, for example, if i have
    <article>
    <articlebody>
    </articlebody>
    <references>
    <reference id="1"> ... </reference>
    <reference id="1"> ... </reference>
    <reference id="1"> ... </reference>
    </references>
    </article>
    I need to get the complete <reference> portion to parse later, so i need the following string:
    <references>
    <reference id="1"> ... </reference>
    <reference id="1"> ... </reference>
    <reference id="1"> ... </reference>
    </references>
    How can i do this using xpath? is it even possible? if not how else can i do it? (don't want to use regular expressions and string manipulation)
    Thanks for you help

    Im not sure if this really qualifies as using DOM, but this is all i do to get the data i want from the files (when i only want to get the text value of an element:
    InputSource inputSource = new InputSource(new StringReader(metadata));
    return xpath.evluate(expression, inputSource, returnType);where metadata is a String containing meta data, and return type is usually string or number.
    Im using Java 5 and
    Could you please explain a little more how to do this?
    Thank you

  • Folder name showing in the search result in SharePoint 2013

    Hello,
    In SharePoint 2013, when user search for a document within a folder, Search content along with Folder name and icon getting displayed in the search result. I am trying to hide Folder name from search result. Please suggest some way to achieve this.
    Thank you
    Jyotiraaditya

    Hi,
    As I understand, you want to search without folders in SharePoint 2013.
    You can do the steps to achieve your request:
    In search center in results page, click Edit page.
    In search results web part, click dropdown in the upper right corner -> click Edit Web Part.
    Click Change query -> in Property filter field -> choose contenttype, not contains, folder  -> click Add property filter -> ok.
    Thanks,

  • Automator and applescript to copy new files in a folder with same name as parent folder

    I have an iMac with a pictures folder (Finder folder) containing several subfolders with pictures. As per now, all these subfolders are imported into an iPhoto library (and the structure of the Finder pictures folder is thus maintained: The iPhoto events are named the same as the Finder subfolder). I.e. I have not created any albums in iPhoto.
    I have also set up a workflow, where new iPhone photos are automatically being synced to specified Finder folders within the iMac pictures folder. So what I want to do is to make a workflow to import potential new photos from week to week into the existing iPhoto structure. I know iPhoto has this Autoimport folder, so this one is unpacked and "mapped". So, this is what I´m hoping to do:
    Automator (iCal - want to do this on a weekly basis):
    - Get specified Finder items -- set to target folder = iMac pictures folder
    - Get folder content (with subfolders)
    - Filter Finder items
         - Items from the last 7 days (which then would be any new files created last week)
    - Applescript/shell script loop(?)
         - Get folder name for each file´s (from previous step) parent folder
         - Create new folder with same name as the file´s parent folder (if not already existing) under the iPhoto Autoimport folder
         - Copy the given file into the folder from above
    - Run iPhoto application (Automator task), which then should just auto import the new photos according to the Finder folder structure
    Whith the workflow above, I aim to maintain the existing iPhoto structure, and just import new photos into the existing structure. Creating folder names under the Autoimport, similar as the existing Finder folder names / iPhoto events should make it possible to have the new files imported under the existing event, right?

    Anyone?
    I have now switched to Aperture (from iPhoto) due to Aperture´s capability to handle Finder folder structure, and due to the possibility of having the pictures within Aperture as referenced files to the pictures within the Finder folders (i.e. possibility to delete pictures from both library and Finder folder at the same time).
    So I have a superior Finder folder called "Album". Within "Album" I have several subfolders (sub albums) containing pictures. The "Album" folder with subfolders are imported into Aperture as "Projects and albums", and the pictures are uploaded within the Aperture structure as referenced files. So for now the Aperture structure is more or less a direct mirror of the Finder folder structure, whereas "Album" is the project.
    And this is my current workflow in Automator, but I´m searching help with my Applescript:
    - Get specified Finder items (target folder = the superior Finder folder "Album")
    - Get Folder content
    - Filter Finder items (to look for potential new files to import into Aperture)
         - Kind is not folder
         - Date created last X days
    The output files from this task enters an Applescript
    on run {input, parameters}
           repeat with f in input (**Loop**)
                   tell application "Finder"
                          set fileName to name of (f)
                          set parentFolder to name of container of (f)
                          tell application "Aperture"
                                 tell library 1
                                        tell project "Album"
                                               if (exists album parentFolder) then
                                                 ** I then would like to check if fileName already exist within the existing album**
                                                 ** If not existing, I would like to import file f into the existing album as a referenced file**
                                               else if not (exists album parentFolder) then
                                                       make new album with properties {name:parentFolder}
                                                ** I then would like to import file f into the new album as a referenced file**
                                               end if
                                        end tell
                                 end tell
                          end tell
                   end tell
           end repeat

  • AppleScript to resize images and save with new name

    I want to make an apple script, which resizes all images of a folder regardless what kind of filetype.
    The source folder will change every day.
    With the script i want to choose a source Folder, resize all images and save the files with my jpeg options in the same folder, but with adding  „_ipad“ in the filename.
    I tried to edit an existing script from this forum, but in Photoshop 5.1 i get the error-message "This function is possibly not available in this Version" in line 18 "save in file newFileName as JPEG with options myOptions"
    How can i save the documents with new name in the existing folder?
    Thanks.
    This is the script i’m working with:
    set inputFolder to choose folder with prompt "Wähle einen Ordner:"
    --set destinationFolder to choose folder with prompt "Wähle einen Zielordner" as string
    tell application "Finder"
              set filesList to (files of entire contents of inputFolder) as alias list
    end tell
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1"
              set UserPrefs to properties of settings
              set ruler units of settings to pixel units
              repeat with aFile in filesList
      open aFile showing dialogs never
                        set docRef to the current document
                        tell docRef
                                  set newFileName to my getBaseName(name)
      --resize image height 240 resolution 72 resample method bicubic sharper
      change mode to RGB
      resize image resolution 72
                                  set myOptions to {class:JPEG save options, embed color profile:true, quality:12, format options:progressive, scans:3}
      save in file newFileName as JPEG with options myOptions
                        end tell
      close the current document saving no
              end repeat
              set ruler units of settings to ruler units of UserPrefs
    end tell
    on getBaseName(fName)
              set baseName to fName
              repeat with idx from 1 to (length of fName)
                        if (item idx of fName = ".") then
                                  set baseName to (items 1 thru (idx - 1) of fName) as string
                                  exit repeat
                        end if
              end repeat
              return baseName
    end getBaseName

    This seems like a Photoshop error not an AppleScript one. Have you looked in the Photoshop dictionary to see if the command you are getting the error on exists and if it has those options?
    If all you want to do is resize image files and save the resized image file you might want to look at Automator. Specifically the Scale Image action under Photos.

  • Help with a simple applescript for combining Artist text with Track name

    Hi all,
    I'd like to put together a simple script that takes the artist names from a list of tracks in iTunes and copies the text to the start of the Title name, followed by " - ".
    This is because, e.g. on a classical album, I want the artist names to all be "Classic Collection Gold" but I'd like to keep the artist name contained with the track name. This means when I browse by artist I don't get millions of artists...
    I found this script, which does something kinda similar, but I'm new to script writing so not sure how to do it?
    So I'd like to change:
    Name
    Planets: Mars
    Artist
    Gustav Holst
    Ambum:
    Simply Classical Gold (Disc 2)
    To be:
    Gustav Holst - Planets: Mars
    Artist
    Gustav Holst - Planets: Mars OR BETTER Simply Classical Gold (Disc 2)
    Album
    Simply Classical Gold (Disc 2)
    This script has some ideas in, but I'm not sure how to tweak it....

    I'm not sure what that script thinks it's doing, but it's essentially doing nothing, so scrub that and start afresh.
    The first thing you need is a way to identify the tracks to change - you don't want to do all tracks in the library (they might have already been munged). A good option is to work on the selected tracks:
    tell application "iTunes"
    if selection is not {} then
    set sel to selection
    You then need to iterate through those items, changing them one-by-one:
    repeat with aTrack in sel
    Now comes the easy part - build a list of the elements you want (in this case you want the name, artist, and album of each track:
    set trackName to name of aTrack
    set trackArtist to artist of aTrack
    set trackAlbum to album of aTrack
    Now you have the information you need, so reset the fields as appropriate:
    set name of aTrack to trackArtist & " - " & trackName
    set artist of aTrack to trackAlbum -- or to trackArtist & " - " & trackName, depending on your choice
    Now clean up by closing off the repeat and tell blocks:
    end repeat
    end tell
    Putting it all together you get:
    tell application "iTunes"
      if selection is not {} then
      set sel to selection
      repeat with aTrack in sel
        set trackName to name of aTrack
        set trackArtist to artist of aTrack
        set trackAlbum to album of aTrack
        set name of aTrack to trackArtist & " - " & trackName
        set artist of aTrack to trackAlbum -- or to trackArtist & " - " & trackName, depending on your choice
      end repeat
    end tell

        set text item delimiters to "_"
        return (text item 2 of theFile)
        set text item delimiters to ""
    end grabSuffixOfFile

    Normally it is a bad idea to do things with items that are in the attached folder (earlier OS versions will retrigger folder actions when an item is renamed, for example), and you don't need to use a Get Selected Finder Items action since the dropped items are already passed to your workflow (also note that the input items will be a list).
    It looks like you are trying to use multiple passes to add on the folder names, but you will have less of a headache if you build the base name and just deal with the number suffix.  If I understood your naming scheme correctly, the following script should do the trick - it isn't very fast, but should be OK for a few items at a time.
    on run {input, parameters} -- rename input Finder items (aliases) to name of containing folders
      set divider to "_" -- the divider character between name pieces
      set output to {} -- the result to pass on to the next action
      set counter to "01" -- start suffix at one
      repeat with anItem in the input -- step through each item in the input
      set anItem to contents of anItem -- dereference
      tell application "Finder" to if class of item anItem is document file then -- don't mess with folders or applications
      set {itemParent, itemExtension} to {container, name extension} of anItem
      if itemExtension is not "" then set itemExtension to "." & itemExtension
      set grandParentName to name of container of itemParent
      set parentName to name of itemParent
      set newName to grandParentName & divider & parentName & divider & counter
      set documentNames to my getExistingNames(itemParent)
      repeat while newName is in documentNames -- increment counter suffix as needed
                                            set counter to text -2 thru -1 of ("0" & (counter + 1))
      set newName to grandParentName & divider & parentName & divider & counter
      end repeat
      set name of anItem to (newName & itemExtension)
      set end of output to anItem -- alias still refers to the same file even after renaming
      end if
      end repeat
      return the output
    end run
    to getExistingNames(someFolder) -- get base document names (no extensions) from a folder
      set nameList to {}
      tell application "Finder" to repeat with aFile in (get document files of someFolder)
      set {fileName, fileExtension} to {name, name extension} of aFile
      if fileExtension is not "" then set fileExtension to "." & fileExtension
      set fileName to text 1 thru -((count fileExtension) + 1) of fileName -- just the name part
      set end of nameList to fileName
      end repeat
      return nameList
    end getExistingNames

    I can't seem to find actions in automator that reference time crated.
    Is this something I will be able to Do in automator?
    Any help would be great

    Hi,
    It's impossible to do this without any script in Automator.
    Use this AppleScript script :
    set source to choose folder with prompt "Select the source folder"
    set anotherfolder to choose folder with prompt "Choose the another folder"
    tell application "Finder"
        repeat with tfile in (get files of source)
            set cDate to creation date of tfile
            set findFiles to (files of anotherfolder whose creation date is cDate)
            if findFiles is not {} then
                set tName to name of tfile
                set name of item 1 of findFiles to tName
            end if
        end repeat
    end tell

  • Get the root folder name once user will upload any files to subfolder with in this root folder using sharepoint designer WF??

    Hi,
    How to get the root folder name using sharepoint designer WF? i have a document library with root folders and subfolders. so i am trying to get the root specific root folder name attaching with email once user will
    upload any files to subfolders within that root folder.
    Thanks in advanced!

    Hi,
    According to your description, you might want to get the root folder name in SharePoint Designer Workflow when there is file uploading.
    The “Path” field of the current item holds the relative path of a file, as a workaround, you can retrieve the value of the “Path” as string, then split the string
    value with a delimiter character of “/” to meet your requirement.
    In SharePoint Designer 2010, there is no OOTB action to split the string. You can use the custom workflow actions below to achieve it.
    Here is a link about the related actions I use in this scenario:

    For instance if the folder names all contain the word "Default" what script could I write to remove "Default" from the names of all folders with it in the name.
    So, if folder is named "bobDefault"  how could I get it to remove Default and keep bob and then continue on the rest of the folder names within the main folder.  I appreciate any help you may provide.

    The following should do the trick (if there's always a space before the left parenthesis):
    set theFolder to choose folder
    tell application "Finder" to set theNames to name of folders of theFolder
    set theNewNames to {}
    repeat with thisName in theNames
         set P1 to offset of "(" in thisName
         set P2 to offset of ")" in thisName
         if P1 * P2 > 0 then
               try
                     get (text (P1 + 1) thru (P2 - 1) of thisName) as integer
                     set theString to text P1 thru P2 of thisName
                     set thisName to replace(space & theString, "", thisName)
               on error
                     -- no change
               end try
         end if
         copy thisName to the end of theNewNames
    end repeat
    tell application "Finder" to repeat with k from 1 to (count theNames)
         try
               set name of folder (item k of theNames) of theFolder to (item k of theNewNames)
         end try
    end repeat
    on replace(A, B, theText)
         set {TID, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {AppleScript's text item delimiters, {A}}
         set {theTextItems, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {text items of theText, {B}}
         set {theText, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {theTextItems as text, TID}
         return theText
    end replace

  • AppleScript: Set folder name of Folder Action?

    Problem:
    How to get the folder name that the running Folder Action script is attached too. Script is functional, stdin bash script with AppleScript via osascript. I just want the folder name, not the POSIX path to it. The System Events dictionary suggests this is possible. I don't want to hardcode the action's assigned folder in the bash script if I can get it dynamically from AppleScript. I know how to return it to bash. AppleScript newbie that has spent several hours googling and testing already.
    Tried:
    tell application "Finder"
         --AppleScript Editor can't get container -- no surprise. Folder action does work
         get POSIX path of (container of ((path to me) as text))
         set workingDir to quoted form of result
         display alert "Current Folder: " message workingDir as critical
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
         activate
         --AppleScript Editor can't get name of folder action. Folder action does not work
         set currentDir to name of folder action
    end tell
    Appreciation for time and solution in advance.

    In that case I suggest you make your life easier.  delete the osascript bit and just return a 0 or 1 from the shell script.  That integer will be passed on to the next action, so add an applescript action that checks to see if the input is 0 or 1 and displays a dialog if necessary:
    on run {input, parameters}
              if input as integer > 0 then
      -- error
      display alert "whatever"
              end if
    end run
    The only reason I posted in the first place was to assess if it was possible to dynamically discover the folder name of the folder action using AppleScript through an osascript request. If the bash script has to be scrapped and entirely rewritten as a Applescript action -- just to obtain the folder name, then that answers my question.
    The purpose of the osascript was to provide an OS X style, user friendly dialog that displays any martian files the bash script ignored. It was the least amount of coding for the result.
    I believe that your input example from above would take the exit status from the preceding shell script. How is my invalidFiles variable passed then? In the shell script, I can pipe the invalidFiles printf line to pbcopy to put that content on the clipboard. After the script is done, I can retrieve that information with a pbpaste command. I wonder if this information is available to your trailing AppleScript action for inclusion in the display alert statement?
