Applescript resize group
How I can to resize grouped object using absolute dimensions?
I tried that but I'm newbie into Applescript
tell active document
tell group items "<gruppo>" of layer 1 of page 1
set absolute horizontal scale to 55 as real
end tell
end tell
Ok, half of the problem is solved with this code:
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
open "Macintosh HD:Users:matteo:Desktop:template.indd"
tell active document
tell group "MyGroup"
set properties to {horizontal scale:50, vertical scale:50}
end tell
end tell
end tell
Now I like to resize using 4 parameters: X and Y coordinate, width and height in millimiters: How I can do?
Anyone can help me?

Resizing grouped objects keynote
In keynote I would like to be able to resize grouped objects without maintaining proportionality - is this possible?
The "Constrain Proportions" button is greyed out for grouped objects for me.
I'm using version 6.2Why can't I resize grouped objects in the new Keynote without constraining proportions
The only people who can give an informed answer are the Apple engineers, however they don't post in the user to user community.
Keynote 5.3 certainly could do this, but the latest version of Keynote is a completely separate application with different tools and features and file format.
You can let Apple know of your concern by using: Apple Feedback -
I have a document with a collection of grouped drawing objects. They used to be floating objects and I have now converted the entire group to be inline. Unfortunately it is slightly wider than the page and hence I try to resize it but the group only seems to constrain itself to doubling in width. This can be seen here:

Any ideas? Someone want to ... y'know ... fix this?
DaveI don't hate Pages, but I don't use it because it is so extraordinarily difficult to do anything useful with. Something I find ridiculously frustrating but addictive.
Typically if I don't fawn over it and praise it for what it is not, you describe that as hate.
It is the old "love it or leave it".
As to the generalisation, maybe, but it is something which I have frequently experienced so I can't help noticing, and as another generalisation, not something Americans like to talk about. Another topic for censorship.
Given the absurdities of the last 8 years, it seems that this is why you missed out on a lot that was obvious all round.
I first encountered it at a Mac User Group many years ago where an American friend got over the top angry at an article in a magazine and immediately threatened to cancel his subscription. I thought what an odd reaction, and asked him should the magazine perhaps poll him first as to what he would like to hear, then only tell him that?
Then, as now, it went straight over his head.

Problem resizing group of objects
I was trying to resize a grouping of simple objects and hit some sort of limit as to how small it would go. It would resize larger but not smaller than some seemingly arbitrary size. Did a cut&paste (with cmd-N) into Preview and then cut&paste back into Keynote. Now the grouping will go smaller in Keynote and also into Pages. Does anyone know what this size limit thing is and how to avoid it?
It was a grouping of simple shapes; lines, ellipses, a few polygons, some fill here and there. That's it.

Applescript: Removing Groups and Layers
This should be a simple task, but I still haven't figured out how to do it.
I have a set of page items, and the are contained in groups inside of layers inside of layer inside of layers.
How can I remove the layers easily?
I looked at the reference guide, and attached the screenshot where it explains how to use the "delete" command to remove containers of objects.
But I still dont' understand how to order the command correctly:
delete page item of layer?
delete layer of page item?
delete page item of layer of page item?
None of these work.
For now, I've just used an action, but it would be helpful if I could do it within a script.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
BenI know that I could move the objects out of the layer one by one, but I think there is a way to just remove the containing layer using the delete command.
I looked in the Applescript Illustrator Reference Guide (on page 213)
and here is what it says about using delete to remove container objects:
I just don't understand how to use it correctly in the script. -
Hi,
i had several objects that i group.
when i try to resize the "new" objects group, it already has:
W : 16384 px
H : 16384 px
so the maximum possible even if on the screen it is only 200 px width by 50 px height.
where is the problem ?
moreover how can i fix it or how can i resize it correctly now ?
thx. That is the only way I know of.
If you do want to scale one visually with the info palette open, write down that scale value, then scale the balance of the items with transform each.
A related way is if you used symbols, you could go and edit the symbol, and all instances would update. -
AppleScript - Resize page and all objects.
Hi, we'd like to take an existing page and not only resize page and all objects on page proportionately to fit new size. For example, our current page might be 9.5x20.25 inches and we'd like to go to 11.5 to 23.5 inches. Manually, I can go to file->document setup and change height and width to new sizes then select all objects and change W: and H: to match new sizes and seems to work finw but would like to try to do this from AppleScript if possible?
Thanks,
JoeLook up the options available for the resize command in the app dictionary… page is also supported object…

How to resize groups WITHOUT constraining proportions?
If I have e.g. group 3 boxes and I want to change their width I have to do this one by one because if I group them I can't uncheck "Contrain proportions". This changed with Keynote 6, before that it was easily possible to change widths of objects in one group. To me that looks like a usability fail...
If you had Keynote version 5 installed use that, it will still be in applications, in the iWork 09 folder.

Ok, I give up. How to enable this in the report viewer? Works in the designer. Used to have some control in an earlier version of the viewer, but apparently that's been taken away, since the property doesn't exist anymore. There's no way to tell because the tech note doesn't reference the version. Searched the site, searched the object model, no joy. Seems like a pretty basic UI feature, but looks like it wasn't added to the designer until pretty late in the game. Thx.Post Author: pearsons_11114

Batch Resizing within Aperture?
Greetings-
I shoot 400-600 images a day, thus I'm beginning to run out of hard drive space. I don't want to create a new vault of pictures on an external drive. I'm willing to reduce the overall size of my photos in order to create some space on my drive.
I'm at a loss how to batch resize groups of images in Aperture. It was an easy function in iPhoto.Spuds\'n\'Surf wrote:
I don't want to skip a step, lose sharpness, image cropping/adjustments, or mess up my project/folder/album file structure in this process.
What's the best way to do this and can it be done safely en masse? (We're talking about 120,000+ images)
You just perfectly described a Referenced-Masters workflow. It works great for 200k+ images, the Library with its Previews lives on the internal drive and is always accessible. Masters live on external drives. The Library is backed up via Vaults and originals are backed up to redundant locations using the Finder before import into Aperture.
Personally I have images managed on the internal SSD until editing is complete then convert to Referenced-Masters.
IMO referenced Masters make far more sense than building huge managed-Masters Libraries.
• Hard disk speed. Drives slow as they fill so making a drive more full (which managed Masters always does) will slow down drive operation.
• Database size. Larger databases are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller databases are.
• Vaults. Larger Library means larger Vaults, and Vaults are an incremental repetitive backup process, so again larger Vaults are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller Vaults are. One-time backup of Referenced Masters (each file small, unlike a huge managed-Masters DB) is neither incremental nor ongoing; which is by definition a more stable process.
Managed-Masters Libraries can work, but they cannot avoid the basic database physics.

Fireworks Crashes / Freezes When Using the Text Tool
Mac Octocore > OSX 10.6.1
Master Collection > Fireworks CS4
First I noticed the text box shift. Then Fireworks CS4 would freeze during any of the following:
• Resize grouped text
• Move text box
• Click on text box to edit with type tool
• Double-click on text box to edit with pointer tool
So I started a brand new file, but encountered the same outcome. Thus, Fireworks CS4 is currently useless if text is needed. I can create vector based objects, but just clicking on the canvas (or clicking the font menu) with the text tool freezes Fireworks CS4 instantly. I've had similar issues with Fireworks CS3 edition, but if I started a new file, I was at least able to use the text tool again and type. Now, I can't even recreate the file. I have to abandon Fireworks and use a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator before my timeline becomes even further behind.
I'm at a complete loss.

How to move multiple clips with transitions?
Im still transitioning from FCP7 to FCP 10.1.2 and can't believe I have missed the lesson that explains how to move multiple clips with transitions.
Up till now I have tried several work arounds including deleting all the transitions then using the (P) Position tool to move the clips from the primary track to some track above it then re adding all the transitions. This is a function I do on a daily basis. Am I missing something? Please help!
Thank youWith some further investigation, the transitions have nothing to do with my problem. In my case there was a tiny “Black gap slug” within the group that was preventing me from being able set it on top of another group of clips or gap someplace. But even with the gap removed… I can move the clips on top of another group but the transitions stay behind on the primary (Magnetic)
In the screen shot you can see what happens when I move a group out of the primary (magnetic) timeline onto a gap. All the transitions get left behind.
Ive notices that Cutting and pasting will only paste the sequence some other place on the primary (magnetic) timeline for me.
An example of why I would want to put a cropped/ resized group on top of another group is to do picture in picture effects or if I wanted to create a background behind a set of adjusted clips. -
Illustrator has the 'Transform Each' dialog, but it only allows you to scale multiple objects by specifying a percentage. Is there any way to specify the size in pixels?
More specifically, imagine I have 10 rectangles on my canvas, and I want them all to be of a specific height. The rectangle position on the canvas matters, so I can't do the 'vertical align to top and then resize group height' trick - they need to be resized in place.@Mike: Thank you very much for the quick reply.
Your suggestion does help, but there is still a gap. To be more specific, my rectangles are actually a bar chart, so the heigh of the ractangles is different and should remain unchanged. What I want to do is make each bar narrower to a specific pixel width. The Shape Options feature allows you to specify absolute dimensions, but it seems like you have to specify this for both the Width and Height - can't just do one unless I'm missing something. You can specify relative increase/decrease in pixels (which mostly solves my problem), but I have to calculate the pixel difference, usually fine unless I'm dealing with decimal pixels which I'd like to clean up and turn to clean pixels.
A bit confused about your last point. What does 'select individually' mean? Is Ctrl Enter do anything different from just Enter? -
Requesting help regarding 'Batch' script
G'day
Elsewhere in this forum I posted a script using the Photoshop 'Batch' command.
Trouble is, it won't work under PS CS5 or CS6 extended trial. and gives the following error for both...
My script is...

Am I coding the Batch command correctly please?
Regards
SantaThanks JJMack
Turns out, from Apples Applescript Users Group, that Adobe document everything to use the Batch command, but don't actually use or support it, nor have they for several iterations of Photoshop.
Instead, I had to resort to other means to do the job, namely a do action. Here's the script. Note that in some actions, the command to turn off 'display dialogs' doesn't always work. Another Adobe slipup.

Is there any way to set up a watched folder in Photoshop to automatically batch run an action on any image that is dropped into that particular folder?
Similar to how distillar works for PDFs.
I have Creative Suite Web Premium 5.5 so if any of the other packages in the suite will do the job please let me know as I can't seem to find it.
A droplet won't do the job as although the processing will take place on my machine - the image may be dropped into the folder by a colleague elsewhere.
Thanks.According to the Applescript Users Group, Batch hasn't worked since at least CS4, that's why the error messages. Darn Adobe, they include it in their Scripting Guides.
This works, but depending on the action, you might get a dialog box that, again, Adobe in their stupidity have decided can't be turned off with scripting. This also renames duplicate files.
